I pulled one in the W123, I opened it at the crimps, cleaned it with a wire brush, snapped it back together and it worked like new again.

    30 - B+ supply
    85/86 - coil terminals
    87 - N.O. contact
    87a - N.C. contact
At rest when all schematics are made, terminal 30 contacts 87A. When coil is energized (85/86) via input voltage or ground. 30 contacts 87. Can be arranged to perform a multitude of fuctions dependent on your needs.
Basic electromechanical relay. But built way better than any relay made today.💪🏻

Pierre, 87 and 87a are the terminals that power the load, 87 is normally open, 87a is normally closed. Also remember that many times the relay will be triggered by a ground signal, rather than a power.

I use a 12v drill battery with alligator clips to power the relay then check the trigger, it you hear a click the relay is working. there are youtube videos explaining this procedure out there. This helps in diagnosing if the relay is bad. If you go to the junkyard, usually all the fuses and relays in Mercedes are snatched up quickly. by people. Pierre thanks for the info, keep making videos for DYI guys trying to keep our classic Mercedes running on a budget. Any thing on diagnoses is appreciated. I was just about to go to my garage and check windows relays on my old Porsche, same application.
