I really loved this off the cuff style approach on this video in particular, had it on in the background while I was doing stuff around the house. Maybe you could do controllers you own next or something.
But! My favorite looking console is not on the list! The Panasonic Q GameCube. Anyways, great list! Some consoles, like the Wii, I think looks amazing in black, just like the ceramic white PS2 looks so slick over their normal colours.
The slim is kind of a tragedy because design wise it's nice but internally it's a mess that can and often will ruin your discs. For that reason alone I stick to the fats.
I really like the PS3 Slim design. No sharp edges, not bulky, and I like the curved design of it. Plus, I like how the buttons are on a little tray laying flat just outside the disk drive. They are easy to see and use when needed but stay out of sight and are not distracting nearly at all when playing. I really like that!
y’all have the best channel. just two buds with a real passion for talkin’ video games. a perfect slice of what youtube was like before everyone started chasing the algorithm and making weird faces.
If you had one I am curious where the RG-M1 Wondermega would place on this list. In my opinion it's in a tier above all other consoles as far as design aesthetics are concerned.
Sorry you can't make a best looking console video without even mentioning the Panasonic Q! My personal top 10 (of which I own all and have 1 of each sealed). 1. Panasonic Q 2. PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary 3. PS4 20th Anniversary 4. 60gb PS3 fat 5. Satin Silver PS3/Ceramic White PS3 (both fat, gave them one equal place) 6. Dreamcast (especially the limited edition D-Direct Super Black version) 7. PSP 1000 8. PS Vita OLED 9. DS Lite 10. Xbox 360 Slim
53:00 The top loader aspect on disc based systems is a great alternative design choice. I get the appeal of auto-loaders and disc trays, but for long term reliability and future maintenance, a simple lid is far superior.
Makes me kinda sad that neither of you guys have a a vetrex! I love how the controller is docked on the system itself, making it a quite tidy, compact, unit. The handle on the back makes it super easy to carry around, so it's like having a semi-portable arcade cabinet. I'm biased, but I'd call it a "masterpiece of design"
the problem with TG-16 was that when you met someone that owned one, you couldn’t join them. so it was easy to dismiss the console even though it looked gorgeous on the screen
I don’t disagree with a lot. The original 360 is iconic to me though. It might be my favorite system design of any of them. Especially with the e3 circles faceplate 👌.
Fun and difficult topic! Interesting about the PS1 it always looked cheap to me haha. Buttons didn’t feel good to press and controller was terrible until the DualShock saved it.
Xbox One Launch model just looks like the bold version of a PS4 launch model, which looks like the Italics version. They even have the same two tone gloss/matte black finish. And were designed by the same third party design firm.
I completed Mother 3 on a gameboy micro famicom edition and its probably my favorite experience out of all nintendo systems. The design made the it disappear when in use and made you happy when you weren't using it.
Agree with you on the Playstation 1 colour and aesthetics. It’s the reason I got the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary (got lucky with the ordering, too). I wouldn’t pay scalper prices for it, though. Retail price was fine, considering the cost of the Edge etc.
The biggest changes for me personally, I would put the PS3 Slim in "that's disgusting," I really hate the design and the Fisher Price texture, and I would put the PS Vita OLED into Masterpiece, behind the PSP 1000.
I 100% agree with the PS1 love. It's so beautiful and iconic. I keep mine connected even though I have a PS2 hooked up as well. It's just so meaningful to play on an actual PS1 when I can.
The Xbox Series S is hands down the best console with a screen attachment. Specifically the xScreen. It blends perfectly with the console so much, you’d think that was the intentional design.
PS1 has the best design. Simple and looks like a game console. The colorful PS1 logo pops out due to the simple gray color. PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary edition looks great, only because it has PS1 colors 😅.
The master system fit perfectly in my faux woodgrain vinyl veneered particle board entertainment center from Hills circa 1988! Blasphemy! Shorter than a VCR! Merry Christmas boys
The model 1 sega mega drive, specifically the Japanese version with the big 16 bit logo, not the genesis or European mega drive is totally bad ass. If Micheal Keaton's batman had a games console in the batcave it would be this.
Oh no way, just like Coury my first console was also the Master System (not first ever thing that played games though; that was the C64). I had the Master System II with the little flip top cartridge cover with Alex Kidd In Miracle World and I loved the games, but I agree, it's not as much of a looker. For me one of the only "masterpiece of design" is the original launch PS3 with the proper chrome/mirror trims, piano black panels, flip top card readers. Masterpiece in terms of looks and function but not in terms of cooling - they are not overly efficient at dissipating their heat, part of the reason the launch models roasted themselves to death in many cases. But Sony back then correctly knew, sometimes rule of cool wins, and sometimes a device needs to look desirable to add to the appeal.
Best looking console, model 1 megadrive stacked on the respective mega cd - with a power base converter on top to make the most excessive master system
I need to go to Old Gridania and do the new holiday event (the new barding looks nice) - been too busy trying to get some Dawntrail MSQ in. Shout-out to my fellow lalas in Midgardsormr!
The wiiconnect 24 issue happened to my wii. The gpu on the wii would get damaged from the excessive heat. Nintendo repaired mine twice!! After the second repair, i turned off the wii connect.
The 2ds console is honestly my favorite way to play 3ds games in 2d if I'm honest. I just like it for its bigger grip. If I wanna play the games in 3d I'll use my new 3ds.
Funny I was just thinking about what Sony was smoking when they made the psx, is a ugly Grey retangular box, it don't evoke technology or something futuristic like the commercials and software Sony made at the time, maybe it goes well with Grey crts? I think at the time most crts were black in my region, is unquestionably one of the worst designs ever made
This is an interesting video. Too few times the people who design the visual aspect of consoles are credited. I'm a fan of the EU/JP Super Nintendo design for sure.
[Try4ce] We mention in the video that neither of us has one, so we don't rank it. I do understand that it is very high for a lot of people, though. We just have MVS systems, which we didn't rank since there is no official consolized version of that.
I personally think the Famicom has a better design than the NES. A sleek, gold colour palette and a compact design (except the hardwire controllers) makes me prefer it to the ugly grey box the west got. That’s right, I said it. Feel free to disagree with me on that. On another note, why didn’t PAL regions use the Famicom design?
[Try4ce] Hugely underrated game. I loved its commitment to the piano music and snowy setting, but some people thought that meant it lacked "variety." I dunno, "variety" is how you get every game hitting the same predictable beats of grassland, desert, ice world, lava world, a spooky world... I think committing to a theme and fully exploring it as a unified design choice can be much more interesting sometimes.
Masterpiece of Design PC Engine Duo Sega Genesis (M1) w. Sega CD Sega Saturn (M1) (Grey) PlayStation (OG) Super Famicom (SFC-100) Nintendo (NES-101) Nintendo Wii (Black) PlayStation 2 Slim (Silver) PlayStation 3 Fat Xbox 360 (S Model) Nintendo Gemacube w. Gameboy Player Neo-Geo AES Neo-Geo CDZ
My personal favorite is the phat ps2! And still to this day it still looks beautiful, better than the ps5, sorry it had to be said! Happy holidays to everyone!
Japan had one to match every gamecube color Just about. I had t he indigo one imported with the hori pad about a year before the western release.... Stupid self sold it but not the hori pad at least.
I like the Super Famicom BECAUSE of the curves. I also prefer the not-purple buttons on the controller. The blocky nature of the SNES may seem cool because of LEGOs or something, but... Try, you have things backwards. The '80s were blocky. The '90s were when curves started to be king. Then 2000 hit and everything was blocky again.
[Try4ce] I don't know if I'd call the Super Famicom's curves "cool" though, it's just kinda bulbous looking. But I'm also uncool, and like uncool things, so I don't hold that against it!
@mylifeingaming "Cool" is always in the eye of the beholder. But I would never say the SNES wasn't cool. I wanted one, but didn't get to have one until around '95. And I didn't get a GameBoy until '96. BTW, I loved LEGOs too. Still do. I just have a tendency to jump thoughts around a bit while writing without necessary context.
Sega Saturn Model 1 (JP, Americas), any make (Sega, Hitachi, Victor) - - 2nd place (Mega Drive model 1 JP, Americas) Sony PSP Master System Model II GameBoy Color GameBoy Advance
I'm disappointed to see that you both put the Super Famicom and the Super NES in the second tier. I'd put the Super Famicom in the top tier, and the Super NES one tier lower. Anyway, Merry Christmas!
[Try4ce] Yeah, I dunno, I really like the Super Famicom design, but I just don't find it to be as incredible as most people seem to. I like both designs pretty equally, different as they are.
@Try what Sennheiser are you wearing? I just got the 560S but since they are my first open headphones I got no comparison, they are really good for me for sure but Id like to know what you think of those you have. Original PS1 would ve my favorite masterpiece of design!
[Try4ce] Mine are HD-599 SE. When my previous pair of Sennheiser headphones that I'd been using since 2009 (HD-555) fell apart too much to continue being my main set, I had a hard time finding a replacement and returned a few. I like "open back" headphones for things like recording podcasts and such because my own voice doesn't sound muffled to me while I speak during recording. At least, in theory. But I found that many headphones called "open back" didn't have quite the same characteristics of sound passing freely that I was used to. I think I even returned some Sennheiser pairs before finally settling on the ones I have now. And if I recall, even these didn't sound quite as perfect as my old pair at first, but I'm very used to them now, so perhaps an adjustment period should always be expected. Open back headphones don't prevent sound from being heard by other people as well as other headphones, but they do make it feel much more natural to speak while wearing them. I tend to use different, cheaper headphones for purposes where I don't want other people to hear my sound, and I'm not speaking, like playing the Switch, for instance.
[Try4ce] I'll admit we may have not been super strict with that in all cases, but in situations where certain inconveniences with the design impact how you can present the system in your setup, I think it's valid to knock it a bit, because that affects the aesthetics of how it looks in your setup. PSTV, for example. It looks awful with a bunch of wires running out the back, and it's difficult to keep it in a stable location due to how you normally have to insert game cards. The initial impression might be "Oh that's cool how small it is," but then the reality of integrating it into a setup in a pleasing way is at odds with that first impression.
A-ha! That explains why you don't talk about the second generation very much. One person's first system was the NES and second person's first system was the Sega Master System. No talk about "wood grain consoles" like the Atari 2600 or the Bally Astrocade or the Intellivision. I guess you don't own any second generation systems. Now I know why you don't talk about the second generation very much why you think gaming for you guys started with the NES and Master System. I remember a couple of the dedicated self-contained consoles of the first generation the head only one game. But my passion blossom during the second generation during the Colecovision days. I noticed you did a series on controls but you never touched the second generation. That explains it. What are you guys think of those?
[Try4ce] Atari and Colecovision are in this video if you keep watching! I have gained more appreciation for Atari this year, and will briefly mention it in The Games We Played in 2024. They aren't games that I feel like playing just for fun pretty much ever, but I've learned that if I'm in a situation where that's all that there is available to play for a set period of time... I do have fun.
[Try4ce] For vertical orientation, I honestly don't understand the point of the stand. It seems pretty darn stable just resting on the flat edge of its "fins". It's absolutely required for horizontal though, which is functionally awful. I think the horizontal stand looks better on the original than on the slim/Pro, but functionality-wise, it's super annoying.
NES design a masterpiece? Nostalgia glasses. Itll be a miracle if you get a game working without the blinking red light of doom. The Sega Master System next to it looks futuristic with all that sleek shiny black and red. Plop in a Master System cart and the game turns on. Never glitches midway during a game either. You people must love huffing and puffing carts like a hurricane.
@@donowa5637 yeah that's why I'm questioning Coury and Tryace. Probably put that on top so the Nintendo fanboys like dcsoda1 wouldn't start flooding this comment section with slurs. 😂
I kinda lost respect for Sony's designs after the PS3 since they're not super practical - more like form over function. Like the weird slanted eraser/sandwich shape of the PS4 family which hindered space around the front USB ports, then the giant size of the PS5 versus Xbox Series X and the weird curvy panels.
PSOne with the LCD screen is a work of art!
Dreamcast Styling #1 for me :)
I always loved the look of the model 1 sega genesis and model 1 sega cd. Peak 90's aesthetics.
Sorry I was skipping a bit back and forth to hear what you had to say about my favorites. 😁
The PS2 slim is one of my favorites. A great compact and simple design coping the original.
If 900x line would have been matte, I would agree :)
Same I think it was an amazing console. Having a game like god of war 2 running on something the thickness the slim was a amazing to me.
The slim is kind of a tragedy because design wise it's nice but internally it's a mess that can and often will ruin your discs. For that reason alone I stick to the fats.
@@AstralPhnx Yup. That system is trash. It ruined my mint copy of Dragon Warrior 7 by giving it a circular ring.
The PS5 being so ugly is near the top of the reasons I don't own one.
yes me too
Just bought one because of Walmart great deal otherwise I would have wait more… I tried to get the 30th since in gray it looks better
I really like the PS3 Slim design. No sharp edges, not bulky, and I like the curved design of it. Plus, I like how the buttons are on a little tray laying flat just outside the disk drive. The original Japanese Saturn is the most beautiful console design ever.
YES! Casual mlig video! I thought you guys would never so something like this again but I love these kind of simple formats
Here we go!
Woah, Mega video release! Just in time for the weekend.
1. Panasonic Q
2. PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary
3. PS4 20th Anniversary
4. 60gb PS3 fat
5. Satin Silver PS3/Ceramic White PS3 (both fat, gave them one equal place)
6. Dreamcast (especially the limited edition D-Direct Super Black version)

Great fun video, love it ❤
Honestly when I first saw the Wiiconnect24 blue light I thought my system was broken
Atari 2600 and Neo Geo AES is S-tier
great video dudes!! happy holidays!
Wake up babe! New MLiG video - oh snap it’s also a 3 hour video too!
Makes me kinda sad that neither of you guys have a a vetrex! I love how the controller is docked on the system itself, making it a quite tidy, compact, unit. The handle on the back makes it super easy to carry around, so it's like having a semi-portable arcade cabinet.

Great video! I think if you ranked controllers next that would be cool too.
the problem with TG-16 was that when you met someone that owned one, you couldn’t join them. so it was easy to dismiss the console even though it looked gorgeous on the screen
I think you guys did a great job, some will disagree but your reasons make sense to me, please do more videos like this!

What a wonderful video.
No love for the Atari Jaguar-I think it’ll need to be a Patreon-funded talking point for MLiG to ever touch it.
Woah i wasnt expecting this!
The horizontal Genesis/Sega CD design will always be my favorite. Sega Saturn (oval btn) is the second most beautiful design for me
The NT Mini should have looked like the RetorUSB AVS. The AVS feels more inline with the Super NT and Mega SG in aesthetics.
The original PS4 design has really grown on me.
The biggest changes for me personally, I would put the PS3 Slim in "that's disgusting," I really hate the design and the Fisher Price texture, and I would put the PS Vita OLED into Masterpiece, behind the PSP 1000.

Man Coury you are killing me. Your POV's always leave me scratching my head. I am team Try all day.
Seeing the Turbografx without the cover on the back looks so strange. Did you lose it?
I love the duo and the pc engine design.
Finally a video! 🙌
PS1 has the best design. Simple and looks like a game console. The colorful PS1 logo pops out due to the simple gray color.

I feel like thenfirst 10 minites of this video is a AA class talking abut our thoughts and feelings.
I love how much Try complained about the PSTV.
Before watching, Supergrafx best be number 1! 😂 Can't wait to watch and thanks for the awesome content!
GREAT episode. Hi from brazil !!!

Net Yaroze, PSOne, Sega Mark III, TurboDuo. And of course, This Is Cool Saturn.
Can you do this same video with the controllers now?
Surprised no mention of the ostentatious Panasonic Q.
Nah the PSOne is way better than the PSX.
The wiiconnect 24 issue happened to my wii. The gpu on the wii would get damaged from the excessive heat. Nintendo repaired mine twice!! After the second repair, i turned off the wii connect.
My dog boops my Xbox on all the time with her nose! XD
The 2ds console is honestly my favorite way to play 3ds games in 2d if I'm honest. I just like it for its bigger grip. If I wanna play the games in 3d I'll use my new 3ds.
I'd have to go Dreamcast, Fat PS3, and Gameboy Color as my top 3.

Agreed, looks like a melted super famicom
The game boy color is my favorite game boy, because of links awakening dx and the oracle zeldas, but the original gba has the best overall design.
The Wii U picture quality is something that I want to hear. I want to play on a CRT or HDTV. What about homebrew? What are the flaws of vWii?
This is an interesting video. Too few times the people who design the visual aspect of consoles are credited. I'm a fan of the EU/JP Super Nintendo design for sure.
Ps2 with vertical stand is my #1
Love your videos guys! Never stop. :) Merry Christmas! ⛄🎁🎄
The only reason I still don't have a PS5 is because I am waiting for them to hopefully do a redesign that isn't a fucking eyesore. So far, no dice...
Regarding master system 2, with it being that ugly you may as well either get the original, or get the genesis/megadrive attachment.
And where is the Neo Geo AES?????
[Try4ce] We mention in the video that neither of us has one, so we don't rank it. I do understand that it is very high for a lot of people, though. We just have MVS systems, which we didn't rank since there is no official consolized version of that.
Ok this looks fun!
Game Boy Pocket, PS2 fat and the SNES (Japanese/PAL) are my favourites.
These guys say every year they are working on how to bring us better content in the new year only to release no videos the whole year lol
Not a console but I love MSX computers
TIL the red wii re-release was a top loader (!!)

They aren't games that I feel like playing just for fun pretty much ever, but I've learned that if I'm in a situation where that's all that there is available to play for a set period of time... I do have fun.
I would have paid the $800 for a PS5 Pro didn't live life balanced on a crappy stand. They are hell-bent on forcing this atrocious thing on us.
The passion of these two dweebs is so heartwarming. Every episode brings me joy just like a Nintendo game. Merry Xmas and much love. Never change
I love the audacity of people who pop on to someone's youtube channel to tell them their opinion on their own video is wrong 😂
None of those things have anything to do with what they’re talking about lol. And your inability to put a cartridge in sounds like a skill issue imo.
all carts need to be cleaned, the problem with the nes was the stupid ass lockout chip and the terrible front loading design
@@donowa5637 yeah that's why I'm questioning Coury and Tryace. Probably put that on top so the Nintendo fanboys like dcsoda1 wouldn't start flooding this comment section with slurs. 😂
This is pure nostalgia.
when said and done, have to give it to the PS3 Slim, as the most attractive "non special edition" console of all-time.
Please more super game boy (2), content
The PSTV was SO bad... It couldn't play all Vita games either. It took an incredibly long time to get anyone to finally jailbreak it... Ugh...
can you rank pizza toppings next?
Pineapple 🍍 is the bestest
@@Marmite101 i’d say chopped up Sega Saturn disks for me 😋
