    To everyone who wont watch this because of the 10% of brain usage myth: thats like saying you wont watch an Alien movie because aliens dont exist.

    • @AllGameNoLife
      @AllGameNoLife 10 лет назад +62

      But aliens probably do exist out there somewhere. It is almost impossible for them not to, so that we can run with. Our minds can run wild with the theories of what different life forms could exist out in our vast, nigh endless universe.

    • @MINECRAFTNOOBZ121
      @MINECRAFTNOOBZ121 10 лет назад +23

      TheDeadlyMagikarp Aliens do exist, though not in the way we think they do, 'Aliens' as you'd say can range from intelligent beings to bacteria. Anything foreign to our planet that is living can and will be considered "Alien"

    • @AllGameNoLife
      @AllGameNoLife 10 лет назад +3

      Yes, anything not from our world be it bacteria or any other form of life not from our world can be considered alien. I am speaking of developed life forms, not necessarily sentient but you know, the ones we have in film.
      I was just saying that we can grasp those kind of stories because while it is fiction, it isn't necessarily impossible. In fact quite probably that something developed does exist. It's almost impossible for there not to be, considering how vast our galaxy is, let alone the entire universe.

    • @OckhamAsylum
      @OckhamAsylum 10 лет назад +21

      Yeah, but the concept of aliens has at least some merit to it. It's not completely ruled out. Plus, there's enough possibility there that we can kind of give it the benefit of the doubt. Us using 100% of our brains is a confirmed fact. There isn't really anything to work with there since there's no suspension of disbelief that we can give it.

    • @isetmfriendsofire
      @isetmfriendsofire 10 лет назад

      We don't know that aliens don't exist. And that's completely different.

    Myth busters did the 10% thing. 30% is what we actively use at any one point.
    We would never ACTIVELY use 100%... Each portion has different uses. Unless your doing super advanced maths, in a different language, while balancing on a ball on a tight rope and using every muscle, while being poked and having every different pain receptacle being hurt.
    Also, Jeremy is spot on with the whole not caring about characters that are super op. S'why I can't get Into superman or the flash

    No we use 10 percent. "The Myth" is that we don't use every part of our brain which we do. But we don't use all of every part. I think it's actually less than 10%. But it's a misunderstanding. The brain is not used to it's full potential as no parts of the brain are fully operational. Hope I cleared some stuff up :)

      what you just said is also a myth. we use most of our brain all the time. Theres no limit to what we can use at a time, we just dont because its useless and theres always some of it that we dont need at any one point.

    • @cuckoophendula8211
      @cuckoophendula8211 10 лет назад +3

      We actually use quite a bit more than 10% of our brain for just clenching our fist. Then add in all the breathing, heart pumping, digestion, seeing, hearing, feeling, etc. that we're not consciously doing all the time, and you will get much much higher than that.

  • @Bunndog

    Some people(like me) are the ones who believe we're using a small part of our brain because we want to be more than what we are.
    Humanity have a long way of evolving and changing the world just the way we are but that's not enough... At least for me.
    We want be much more than our current human form.

      Yeah she barely had any interaction with the villains at all, and when she did she didn't even bother killing them since all she cared about was the drug. I was expecting this to be some kind of huge power-trip fantasy where she starts off getting revenge on the drug dudes who kidnapped her and then the ass-kicking would escalate from there. Instead she kicks zero asses except that of a random taxi driver and some poor guy on a hospital bed.

And I have a question b/c I haven't seen it -- if this drug has this awesome effect, why didn't the dealers or her enemies use it too? Or are the effects unique to her in some way, like say due to her body's distinct reaction to the drug?

      Meg butterfly Don't see it. It's not good. If you're a college student, it's insulting to your intelligence, not only in the field of science, but also the "philosophy" it tries so damn hard to present. I thought it'd be cool if there was an enemy to be reckoned with, but nah, the conflict is nonexistent. Instead, here's a bunch of criticism and observation on the human condition, which isn't deep except for people who didn't finish middle school.

    Personally think the 'message' of this movie is being missed. First off, it's a fucking movie, so yeh, crazy shit happens that can't really happen. DEAL. WITH. IT. It's a movie. If you wanted facts, watch a documentary. A lot of people like district 9 but you don't get people telling you 'yeh, it's a bit shit though cos 'prawns' don't really exist'. This whole 'we only use 10% of our brain' shit; I'm no scientist so I don't know if it's true or not, or how much of our brain we actually use, but like, there's a whole load of stuff out there that we can't see/hear. You think about how much of the light spectrum we can see (if you look it up you'll find we can see shit all, only what we really need to see to survive), but like infra-red, micro-waves, gamma-rays, x-rays, radio waves, ultraviolet... they all exist, in our world, all around us, but we can't see them without the aid of technologies (some other species can see/hear more than us). Now think about the stuff we still can't even detect using technology: dark matter, dark energy - and apparently this stuff makes up something like 95% of the universe! And we can't even see or detect it! And FRACTALS MAN!!!! Look them up, they're crazy. That part in the film where they're talking about how maths and numbers are just a way for humans to quantify stuff, and that numbers don't actually exist or some shit. If you look up fractals you'll get the idea. The film touches on a lot of legitimate scientific theories, but because IT'S A FUCKING FILM made to entertain, it obviously exaggerates... A lot.
    Going back to the 'what we can and can't see'. It'd make sense that we evolved to be this way. And I should state now, this is just theory as far as I know. If we could see all this stuff it'd be fucking sick, but, also very distracting. If we were still living in jungles and trees, and some predator was stalking us, it's probably best we didn't/don't see all this stuff, and only see what directly effects us. It keeps us sharp to the surroundings that effect us. Maybe once, wayyyyy back in time, an earlier species could see it all, and we evolved in a way that diminished the receptors for these frequencies due to the fact that it helped our survival: the ones who could see and were distracted by all the 'other stuff' were killed off by predators, whereas the ones that couldn't see it, weren't distracted and were more focused on the predator.
    When people take psychedelics (LSD, shrooms etc) a lot of people claim to see shit. That's because we have receptors in our brain that do some chemical/electrical stuff when the 'drug' is taken. Now... why is this? Why do we have these receptors? (I guess at this point I should again say I'm no scientist and most of what I'm talking about is learnt from watching documentaries... A lot of documentaries). But some people think that we used to create these chemicals/electrical things in our bodies, and that enabled us to see all this stuff, but then, as I said before, we evolved not to see them as the animals that produced less of this stuff were more aware of predators and survived over the animals that produced more. And if you've ever seen anyone on psychedelics you'll know that they'll get very easily distracted by the simplest things, like their hands. And chat shit about how fucking amazing cool the shit they're seeing is. But we still have the receptors! We only stopped producing the chemicals. Why else would they be there? (I'm not saying that's the only reason they could be there. Genuine question, if you know another reason they might be there then I'd really like to know). Anyway, I'm drunk and my heads starting to pound so that's my rant over. Hope you enjoyed the film (I did), and if you didn't, maybe watch a documentary or two about dark-matter, dark-energy, space/time, fractals, or just the cosmos in general. Might make a little more sense... Maybe Or maybe I'm just a crack-pot and the film is just shit and nonsensical. But, from my way of thinking, we know pretty much fuck all about the universe we live in, and there's a whole other world out there! PEACE Xx

    You shouldn't humiliate yourself so publicly.
    What is the matter with using your brain?
    The movie tells a story many of you should reflect more upon. Your mind. It is meant to be used.
    It saddens me that the concept of thinking for yourself, is being mocked so openly.
    Go watch the movie again, and see for yourself what it tries to tell you.
    It is a very deep and sophisticated movie, and with an open mind, you'll get it.

    Many people are oddly comparing the movie 'Lucy' starring Scarlett Johansson to 'Limitless' with lead actor Bradley Cooper. However this is not the case, even while the two movies share some basic similarities such as a drug genetically enhancing a person's capabilities. I believe that they are significantly different. Where 'Lucy' failed to excel was not only the abrupt and horribly thought out and confusing end, but where it really failed was how quick the movie ended where it started to get interested. The plot of the movie was incredible as many would agree however it lacked that action that everyone was hoping to see from the trailer. It also had some unnecessary parts that made the movie drag along and switch between interesting parts and boring ones as well. The movie as a whole is not half bad, however, it could prove to be a disappointment. Sorry for the long read 😞

    "Unlock the full potential of our brain" I'm sure we can improve the performance of our neurons, but to unlock the full potential would mean letting ALL of our neurons fire at ONCE... Which just isn't possible since that's not how neurons work. You would just have a violent seizure and break your body.

At the end though, when she said "I am everywhere." , she essentially become "God" right? since her body was no longer useful after she unlocked 100%? Since she was gaining all this knowledge, she put it onto a super USB. So with the way it ended, do you other people reading the comments think there will be a 2nd one? Watched the film a second time. Not once does anyone say that they can't USE 100% of their brain. They ask the question, what if we had ACCESS to 100% of our cerebral capacity... ACCESS! Our body is controlled by our brain... but do we consciously control our brain? Not all of it no. Do we consciously tell our cells to reproduce, our heart to pump blood round our body, our bodies to feel pain? No. This is all programmed deep in our brain, in areas which we don't have conscious ACCESS to. So, what if we could get shot by a bullet, tell our brain to shut of the pain receptors in that part of our body and pull out the bullet with our fingers without batting an eyelid.
    I think the film is implying that this would be the next stage of our evolution; to gain CONTROL of our brain and thus the cells in our body. ...maybe.

      Bishoy Yacoub There are many proven treatments for cancer (depending on type of cancer) including the "cheap" DCA. Most are patented by big pharma. Recently India lost a court battle because they planned to sell a generic form of a cancer treatment, the company that made the "cure" doesn't want it being sold in generic form. It is naive to think that if they found a cure people would be cured. The reality is it costs about $92000 USD a year for treatment.

      Sergei-Kanev-Music I'm not sure if you had a point other then just to mindlessly insult. If you liked the movie, fine, but I was not impressed in the least. It was a story I have seen multiple times played out in 40 minute sci-fi episodes from as early as 1998. And I'm pretty sure it wasn't original then either. Regardless, it could still have been a good movie if they had been at all competent. The character arches was jumbled. The science was dumb enough for a gradeschooler to laugh at. The bad guys served no purpose other then to be Lucy's punching bag. Their involvement to kick off the story made no sense. Lucy, despite her supposedly great intellect, constantly did stupid things and used scientific terminology wrong. The CGI would have been impressive if the actors didn't all look like they were lost on a green screen stage, unsure where to look. The plot itself looked like it had been put into the blender and taped together afterwords. I could go on and be more specific, but I don't think this movie even deserves that time of me.

    I've just watched the whole movie and yep! It's crap.
    It's basically all looks, but not personality. I agree with the reviewer, the story stops becoming relevant once the protagonist meets Morgan Freeman and devolves into a mindless LSD/firework/idiot fest. The movie never has any tension to speak of due to the fact that the bad guys don't do crap. And I especially hate Johansson's character, Lucy. I know what her character trait is and I don't like it. She barely considers anyone else and kills too many innocents to be considered any type of protagonist.
    2/10. Atheists hate it, Christians hate it, scientists hate it, and the director was on drugs. All it as to offer is pretty CGI and nothing else. Oh, and it gets too heavy-handed with the whole evolution thing at the end of the film.

      jwilliams7596 Bruce Marlon I don't think he was saying it was realistic. He was saying that it was well enough written and acted for the outlandish nature of the story to work in the confines of being a sci-fi/fantasy film. This 10% of your brain crap is a completely ridiculous premise. Anyone who's taken a basic neuroscience course (or even a cog-psych course) could point out every problem with that theory, and it's hard to get over. Are "scientific" movies really ever scientifically accurate? No, of course not. But this one operates on such a ridiculous premise and takes it so seriously that it's almost impossible to get any enjoyment out of it. Like that scene where she tells Morgan Freeman that his research on the brain is "a little rudimentary?" It's not just ridiculous -- it's annoying. It's annoying because it's condescending to the viewer while simultaneously being outrageously inaccurate. I have no problems with movies with ridiculous premises, but when a ridiculous film also insults the viewer, I take more of an issue.

Some of the things that made Maleficent so great was that she evil, she knew she was evil, and she enjoyed being evil. Actually, now that I think about it that wasn't Sleeping Beauty from Maleficent's point of view, it was a completely different story that just ported the names from Sleeping Beauty over.

      James Isaac Neutron Science bullshit actively insults the viewer's intelligence and knowledge of basic science. At least with Planet of the Apes we're given some decent pseudo-science with gene therapy being delivered via a virus - something that is actually being researched. From there it gets silly by using an aggressive viral strain and lack of lab control, but the premise isn't awful from the get go.

      Firstly, the contrast between having and being in the early part of the movie with the dolphin example. The distinction is taken from Marcel. Having relates to the objectification of people and things in the world including oneself. In contrast, being relates to the awareness of the subjectivity of things in the world. The movie uses the dolphin as an example of something that uses more capacity of the brain than human beings, yet it adheres to the idea of being, i.e. the dolphin does not treat its body as an object in the world, rather it sees its body as part of itself, part of a supposed subjectivity, that enables it to develop instruments biologically instead of artificially. Humans on the other hand adhere to the idea of having, of the objectification of the world in order to understand it. This simplifies the things in the world in one way or another. The benefit is that humans can develop instruments that are seemingly outside of its biological capacity, although not really since the end of the movie shows the possibility of developing a computer biologically. As such, this idea of having and being is a direct challenge to science, which sees the world in terms of objects, championing the artificial notion of objectivity as a measure of truth. However, this notion of objectivity as measure of truth is again denied by the movie in the latter part, wherein it has a scene explaining how the objectivity of mathematics and physics loses their meaning outside the context of the human being. Then the movie proceeds to claim that the only meaningful notion that can be extracted from mathematics and the sciences is that of the notion of time. However, time, as was presented within the movie, is relative to the state of mind and the mode of being of a given entity. Once a human being transcends both states in the quantum level, time begins to lose its meaning for the human being. As such, the human being stops its mode of existence as a being in time and loses its historicity in the process. Moreover, the human being also loses its mode of existence of being in the world in favor for a mode of existence that can only be describe as being with the world or maybe even being as the world. This idea relates to that of divinity, if we see God or a god as something in the world but outside of time.

      We do use a 100% of our brain yet not all of it is used conscientiously. Examples are as follows: breathing, blinking or our heart pumping are done in your brain stem. The reason we cannot "see in the dark like a crocodile or a cat" is because we simply do not have the DNA for the concentrated amount of color cones and rods needed to see as well as they do in the dark. Your DNA acts as a blueprint to your cells and those cones and rods that cats have are not on that "blueprint". Our DNA only allows us to see certain waves on the electromagnetic scale, radio waves or "data streams" as you refer to them, are not within the range of which we can see with the cones and rods we were provided with in our DNA. Its is not simply because we don't use all our brain...

    We definitely can't use 100% of brains in a conscience state because if we could we'd be able to access memories from our childhood that we didn't know we had in our sub conscience like Lucy did. For that reason I believe the 10% part science has argued before. What I'm upset about is that most reviews are not talking about the 3 main points of the movie. 1) Time is the only constant in the universe. It makes everything else possible. 2) Humans would rather have than be. Humans, by nature, would rather have the world than be one with it. And 3) Unlocking 100% could possibly give you an understanding of time, space, and matter giving you control of it. This is why Lucy could time travel, teleport, and control matter. A very deep movie I thought. The action was just "10%" of the movie ha

      Christian The movie isn't really about science. What we call science is the tool we use to find answers, we know and understand the concept of time and space, based on what science thought us. What I believe he meant with "deep" is what this movie presents, the potential we have, evolution, unknown future. Most people look at this from an objective point of view and fail to conceive something more out of it.
