  • In this video, I put my art studio in a backpack and went sketching and painting outdoors on location. I practice making small sketches of different parts of the building that catches my attention.
These practice sketches help with gaining confidence and ultimately help you get better sketches. They are also very fun, because they are simple exercises, just to get started, and there is no pressure on making them perfect.

Very pretty. Working in localization it seems that a little detail is lost and freshness is gained, I like that balance.

Thank you so much, Guillermo! I totally agree! You don't have the time to put in all the details, so you'll end up with a looser sketch :)

I carry a little clutch bag, with 8 or so fude nib pens with different colors, a little sketchbook, and some big clips for when it is windy. Sometimes I carry a larger notebook as well.

Ahaa, nice! I guess you really love fude nibs! :) you can create very expressive lines with them. I have the Duke Confucius :)

Yes, yes I saw your comment reply to ARK, thank you so much :) Nice idea with the clear bag! I also struggle with the confidence of painting outdoors, I always have to "push" myself. But I've noticed that people either don't care or are very interested and curious. With the ones that are curious you can have nice a conversation :) It's important to paint for yourself and enjoy that time :)

Thank you for sharing your sketching videos, especially this onsite video.
I’m sure taking your recording setup onsite takes much more effort.
As for the survey, personally, I don’t have a preference, I just enjoy watching the process, and hearing you talk about things a bit, and then just hearing solely the painting/ sketching.
They are very relaxing to watch.
So, thanks again for taking the time, and energy to record, edit, etc...everything it takes to make and share these.
If you don’t mind, can you share what you used (cameras, stand, mic)?
I usually just take a sketch pad, and either a pen or pencil.
I’d like to take watercolors or color pencils with me, but for now very minimal.
Perhaps consider taking a little cart that serves as a chair and easel/stand - although that’s more stuff to lug around.
    Take care, and thanks again.

I want to have the confidence to paint outdoors. I did for a time carry a sketchbook, pencils, eraser and sharpener with me. They were in a bag airline's used to give you with little items in and it was like a clear pouch and I could hang it round my neck so didn't loose the small items. I too like to see how quickly you capture an image. Your video shows your supplies. I liked your comments about making the effort to actually get out and do! You have been a real find and should be a bigger site.

Hey ARK, thank you so much as well for your support, appreciation and your feedback!
I remember you mentioned before that you want to start an youtube channel as well, how is it going? :) On location i have a very basic and lightweight tripod, hamma, and i record with my phone, an iphone 11.
Nice, a sketchbook and a pencil are enough to catch the world! :)

Thanks very much for your response.
Still no RUclips yet, but still planning on it.
I figured you needed more than an iPhone to this. I didn’t realize you could record as long on an iPhone (memory, battery), plus the quality is very good.
      Thanks again for your response.
I’ll look into both the stand and maybe upgrading my phone.
I look forward to more videos.

I only been watercolor painting for a little over a year and haven’t tried sketching yet. I think I’d like this but have zero confidence in drawing.

    • @ColorArtEmotion
      @ColorArtEmotion  3 года назад

I understand, drawing requires other skills than painting, and knowing to draw will help you get better at painting with watercolor as well. If you want to practice drawing, start with very simple subjects, and take your time, you build confidence over time 😊
