  • Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday!
Today, I want to take you on location and show you how and where you can get started when drawing a scene on location. Also known as Urban Sketching.
I took a picture of the process every two minutes. I did that instead of filming it. Seeing the process in increments like that, instead of witnessing the drawing growing on video, helps you to understand how I built this drawing.
Of course there aren't any rules, when it comes to capturing your view. Next time I would probably take a completely different approach. There is not one way to do this (and isn't that awesome?)
I am also discovering the downsides and the upsides of a small sketchbook that I finally took off the shelf and cracked open to use.
    Materials used in this video:
    -Stillman& Birn Delta Series Mixed Media Sketchbook, 5.5''x 3.5'' / 14 x 8.9 cm
-Sailor Fude Profit Demannen fountain pen filled with water resistant Platinum Carbon black ink
    -Holbein colored pencil Luminance red
    -Daniel Smith watercolors
    -Pentel Aquash waterbrush
In April 2024, I am hosting an awesome workshop week along with my friend Cynthia Morris, called Capture The Lisbon Wow. For information and enrollment: www.originalim...
    Your assignment for this week:
Go and draw on location. Have your very own sketch adventure. Maybe you could even do it with a friend and make it a sketch date!
    Have fun!

I really liked the 2 minute stages with voice over! It was a great way to see your process, but also feels like a more “accessible” way of doing something similar myself when sketching out and about, rather than trying to set up a camera to record the whole process. Thanks for sharing this!

so satisfying to see the page been filled up with elements of things. beautifully done

I love how you framed the drawing. Sometimes I have trouble deciding what part of the view to keep and what to leave out. Also, love how you kept the foreground white and simplified the details like the windows. So many good tips. Thank you!❤

I would say just follow your instinct or bliss when taking decisions. It’s a drawing and nothing bad will happen if the decision wasn’t the best. You’ll learn from it

    • @achathampally
      @achathampally 11 месяцев назад

Thank you! That is the ultimate thing to keep in mind that nothing bad will happen and you flip the page and make another drawing. I learned from you to loosen up when drawing people and it doesn’t matter if the drawing does not look like the person. Now I really enjoy drawing people. They look about 50-80% similar and that is ok😊

Someday I can’t let loose and end up not drawing. These pictures of progression actually are very helpful.

Oh no! I hope when that happens, you can remind yourself that a “bad” drawing is better than no drawing at all.

And how you explain the lines and colours used. Great!

Thank you Koosje for this new video.
I love this "slideshow" way to explain the progression. In my opinion, the understanding of each step is more global with better impact.

Cool approach. Not sure I like the pink checkerboard that remains at the end though. But then I'm a watercolourist and not fond of coloured pencil.

Love the video format and the color choices! Also, Stillman and Birn Delta series is my favorite sketchbook series. I love the slightly creamy tone of the paper and the way it takes watercolor. The 3x5 portrait is my favorite format. The small page size is easy to fill up as well.😊

I love the way you used stills to present this one .... almost prefer this to the standard form of videos. Well done, really like this one. I also use a Fude pen...great for sketching! Love your draw tip Tuesdays. And yes I have your book, got it last year have completely read it a few times and keep it on my coffee table.

It's good to try new things but hope you go back to your usual format (if you want to): This felt too "talky" and static and my attention wandered (sorry!)
