Nice vid, pretty helpful for a new guy like myself. My '85 Spree turns but won't start. Would you recommend cleaning the carb? Sparks and breathes well from what I can tell so far.

Yes. Fuel, air, spark, compression. Something in that list is off. Probably needs a carburetor cleaning.

Picked up a 85 Spree doing this exact same thing. Cleaned the bendix like you have shown, removed the starter and cleaned it well. However its still doing the same thing and barely cranks with the plug in. Did your’s have that problem of not turning over with the plug in?

Yes at the three minute mark it shows how it won’t crank with the plug in. Check the teeth on bendix really close. If they are banged up nothing you can do will fix the hard starting.

@@ApacheRanch yeah I’m going to remove the exhaust next and see if it will fire up. Tried turning it over with a drill on the gear the bendix connects with and bypassing the starter and bendix thinking that if the bendix and starter are bad it will turn over easier with the drill. Turns over a lot easier so thinking maybe the exhaust is clogged. Engine is flooded though so I’ll have to clear that out and try firing without the exhaust on using the drill and also the starter.

@@ApacheRanch do you know if the bendix needs the crankcase cover on to crank up? Or will it work without one on.

You might have hold it from popping out with a screwdriver. You can crank it with the cover off.

@@ApacheRanch How did you fix the Carb not getting fuel issue? Mine is doing same thing now.

Which year models use the 63/11 tooth combo? And which model years use the 65/10 tooth combo? I have an 87 and the precious owner was using a 1985 parts bike. He also claims he installed an Amazon stator. It'll crank great with the button and kick. It has good spark. I'm wondering if the stator is wrong and might have changed the spark timing?

      10 teeth = 84/85
      11 teeth = 86/87

Put in a new automatic choke.10 dollars. Goes into the carburetor. Its choking out.
