    Young man extremely talented video with no music and no chit chat just basic instructions on how to get it done. Also I've run across at the drive belt or the variator or the clutch either one of those three are in a bind due to the fact that someone tried to kick it over and the kick spring inside the case unwound or the belt broke you'll still get that clicking so it cuz it can't turn over that may help so I always take the side cover off look at the clutch variator and belt and you're right those starters after they sit they all need a good cleaning WD-40 a little of your magic hands thank you

    Glad I came across your video. I was getting mine and my wife's scooters that have gy6 ready to sell as we don't use them in the last few years, Mine was fine started right up, but her's just clicked, first thing I checked battery it it good, so I knew it had to be starter or solenoid (it kick starts fine though) and it had the same exact click as on your video. But with your guidance on checking the solenoid I found that to be the problem, I tapped it a little and the starter kind of went but not enough to start it. Glad you had this trouble shooting video for this particular problem and even though it clicks it still could be starter or solenoid as I found out. Thanks!

    Thanks, just got my taotao 150cc out of winter storage. New oil. Gear oil, belt, variator rollers. Ready for the test ride and she won't fire up. I am sure it leads to the starter. The great thing is parts are so cheap you don't really have to diagnose. Just replace parts until you get it right. You can get a GY6 motor, brand new each spring for $300. I will be doing this sooner than later. I ride 7000 miles a year. That is a couple drive belts and 7 oil changes. No other maintenance required. Maybe an air filter. Then new motor next year.

      I do have one concern... I did get my bike started using the kickstarter and noticed that the battery was at about a little more than half of what it usually is. Is it because it's not running off the solenoid or alternator?
      I did order a new starter and solenoid and hopefully it goes smoothly and I don't fuck it up.

    • @kachiskid
      @kachiskid  5 лет назад +2

      @@erikpetrie637 I don't think you will mess it up. Do you have a battery tender? Our bikes don't really have an alternator, but it's a stator under your cooling fan that keeps the battery charged when the bike it running. The bike wouldn't even start it not connected to the solenoid and the stator.
      Take a reading off the battery with multimeter, before going for a ride... take a nice long ride if you can...measure the battery again, if the battery hasn't increased even a little, then you might need a new one.

    • @erikpetrie637
      @erikpetrie637 5 лет назад +1

      @@kachiskid thank you again so much for this video. I just finished putting the new starter and solenoid on. It started right up. The thing you mentioned with the battery, it's still a little bit low but I think after I drive it a little bit it should go up. I've had the bike for a little over a year so the battery should still be okay I'm hoping. I'm just glad I was able to fix this problem by myself and not paid some overpriced shop in the Bay Area to fix it for an astronomical price.

    Great video, very well explained for a gearhead like myself whos skills fall short at electrical. My solenoid tested out fine testing it at the solenoid at stand still and while cranking. However I am getting less than 1 volt at the starter while attempting to start. Could this still be the solenoid?

    • @kachiskid
      @kachiskid  2 года назад +1

      Thank you. I don't think so, if the solenoid tested fine. Are you able to short the solenoid out and start it? Also check starter cable for any corrosion.

      @@kachiskid Wow, thanks for the quick reply. I was able to try jumping the solenoid to no avail. I also checked the cables running from the solenoid to the starter and there didnt appear to be any corrosion or shorts. There is a connector at one point in the harness for these two wires and I did check voltage while starting at that point and it wasnt showing anything as well which tells me the issue has to be between this connector and the solenoid if its not the solenoid.

      You know E, I thought the same thing. so this is my theory...The oil that got into the starter didn't allow it it to spin while on the bike. I would almost bet that when you hit the starter button your not getting a whole 12.6+ volts directly to the starter. When I had it connect to the jumper that is direct voltage with nothing in the way. It's gonna spin under that load as long as it isn't broken or jammed. I think the starter was just weak. You know when people hit their starters with a screwdriver and getting them to work kind of thing. Ain't nobody doing all that, when it can be replaced for cheap. Also I have a 171cc engine, I'm suppose to have a high torque starter..

    Hey! I have some light smoke coming from my engine...I'm not sure if maybe a gasket was blown or if there's something wrong with the coolant. Seems the bike was leaking some oil. There was no visible "gooey" stuff like you get when water is mixed with the oil. It was very dark in color and smelt like it was burnt. I went home immediately when I knew the bike had some white smoke emitting from inside the engine (could've been a little gray, there wasn't enough for me to tell). The bike has been running awesome since I fixed up the starter so my question is, should I take the engine off the bike and inspect it? What should I be looking for to diagnose the problem? This one is definitely a doosey

    • @kachiskid
      @kachiskid  5 лет назад

      Ally, if I remember correctly you have a 250cc. Ok, no need to panic, 1st take the cooling cover off and then run the bike to really check for leaks, if you have to ride it down the street and back with the cover off. It's best if you can tell exactly where the smoke is emitting from. Don't try to hit 70 going down the street but do get it up to cruising speed. As long as you didn't hear a loud pop or grinding, I think it will be something like a gasket, or even a vacuum line possibly. Did you lose any compression on the ride home?

    My Start Stop switch doesn't do anything. No clicking noise. New battery; new solenoid. Electrick Shifter button doesn't work either.
    But head lights do. What could be causing this???

    • @kachiskid
      @kachiskid  6 месяцев назад

      Very rarely the switch goes bad, but it does happen. Do you have a kick starter on the bike?

    Mine spins when jumped, but when reconnecting to my atv It would work for 2-3 sec cranking then go back to just clicking on the solenoid (tried a new one too).
    After that I cleaned the wire from solenoid to starter and now it came white smoke from it. Wire is a lill too short imo etc. Maybe I need a new wire as it seemed twisted a lot

    I have d same problem with my scooter, it wont start n hear d clicking sound of solenoid. Then it made my battery hot and bloated. I tried to jumper d solenoid by screw driver and it crank and start. Do u think my starter is the problem even it can start thru jumper? TIA for any answer!

    • @kachiskid
      @kachiskid  3 года назад

      I remember that mine didn't crank and start, when I tired the jumper screw diver trick. Your battery is a concern if it's bloated. Your starter doesn't seem to be the problem because it started. The best thing is to get the readings with a multi meter. I didn't cover the starter switch being an issue that will cause this problem....because it is rarely that.

    • @Jelsconsumergoods

      @@kachiskid Thanks a lot! Although my battery is bloated i was able to charge it n reads 12.82v and my charger has indicator when it is fully or almost full of charge. At d same time no fluids come out from d battery, I have noticed that on my previous bloated battery last yr. when being charge. I don’t know about voltage drop, but when we measured relay then push d start, it only reads 6v. I tried to change d relay but it has d same reading. Right now i really don’t know what to do next.
