There’s official footage on my page if you’d like to see more. In addition, let’s give credit to Eddie Ellis, Melvin Hodges and the awesome staff we had. His awesome recruitment efforts were second to none. We have a rich history and legacy within our band and at our institution and we all love her! More coming soon.
Thank you for recognizing/highlighting Morris Brown College Marching Wolverine band's contribution to HBCU marching band excellence!! We are the G.O.A.T.!!! The Marching Wolverines were a trendsetter that other bands still look to for ideas and inspiration. My sister and I were privileged to be a member of the band in the late 70"s (76-80) and thoroughly enjoyed my time in the band. The musicianship and work ethics instilled in us by our Professor and Band Director, Mr. Cleopas Johnson, is still with me today. My son and a cousin were also in the band in the early 2000s when Drumline was made ("It's All About the Tubas!!"). I will forever be thankful for the opportunity afforded to me to participate. I am forever a Marching Wolverine!! #Ibleedpurple
We appreciate the love my guy 🙏🏾 this was my freshman year in 99. Your facial reaction at 6:26 though 🤣🤣 Seriously, it was faith that led me to be a part of this illustrious band program during my time from 99-03. I had a lot of great times in this band that I will never forget💜🖤 #MarchingWolverines #Btone4life
Thank you so much for highlighting this video. I marched for Morris Brown from 1997-2000 and trust and believe, that era of sound and music was unmatched. They were different with their approach of touch the field and they will always be ranked as the top band for me.
It’s crazy because I always said you cannot watch drum line without knowing why Morris Brown was in there! They would tear the crowd into pieces with the songs they chose. They could literally play ANYTHING!!
Dr cleophis Johnson Dir of Morris BROWN band , yielded the band to Mr Ellis whom BOTH studied THE LATE DR ISSAC GREGG'S BAND OF SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY BEFORE THE TAKEOVER! In essence they were very good friends and often talked about the sound of the BAND'S 🙏🙏🙏 RIP DR Johnson and DR GREGG'S
Man u had to experience that Morris Brown sound live & in direct to actually undastand how powerful n serious that MBC band was from the sound & as well as they marching style & field shows. And u actually could always hear every section loud n clear. Even they flute & clarinet sections was loud as hell back then. #alltimebestbandNdaland #frfr
I was there, Morris Brown College Grad! I learned quickly that the band was the ish. During freshmen orientation the band would practice across the street from the Towers in the parking lot, (this is when the time the new stadium was being built.) Every evening we had an "eargasm" as they would practice. A few weeks later when football season started I found out people didn't go to the game to see the football team, (at the time we were terrible) EVERYONE CAME TO SEE THE BAND! I'm so glad that I went to Morris Brown Singin' glory hallelujah, (Wooo) I'm so glad!!!!
I'm a PROUD member of the MBC Marching Wolverine Band and when I marched late 80's early 90''s we were around 225 then & I'm also a former Purple Haze DM.
Morris Brown College Band was the best also in the 80's!! This band has a phenomenal impact on musicians in Atlanta and across Georgia in the African American community
I Absolutely agree because I attended MBC at that time 96' freshman yr ,and was in the band and we were awesome, great memories this is called" Coming out the hole" In the beginning when you see us march out(fast march)! Thanks for the clip , doing the dance routine while watching lol💜
I was attending Morris Brown starting in 1999. I grew up in South DeKalb County where Southwest DeKalb, Stephenson, Redan, Cedar Grove, Lithonia, Columbia..I can keep naming them all h the way to the Westside high schools. Morris Brown Marching Band was the Southwest DeKalb of College bands if you grew up in that time you know. Morris Brown by far was the Best Band in the Land.
My parents went to Mo Brown, played in this band, and after they graduated in the late 1970’s, my Daddy was the Assistant Band Director of this amazing band in the 80’s and 90’s. This is the band I grew up around. During the 80’s and 90’s the only band that could rival them, truly, was FAMU. They were truly one of the best bands in the land.
You are absolutely right! As a former Marching Wolverine I appreciate the credit you give this band. We worked hard to make it sound and look as good as you see here. Check out some older clips from the 80's mid 70's. We were baddie then! Thanks for the love.
Battled them twice and when I tell u these dudes were on another level. If I remember right they were in the SIAC. Yall the power, balance, and musicianship they possessed was ridiculous. You can say MBC is the daddy of miles and dega
MBC wasn’t SIAC they were NIAA which was an independent conference which is why they could play so many different schools that they typically would have played.
I’m actually out there on baritone…I marched from 96 to 2000 at MBC…that song “spotlight groove”..was written by Jacob..one of the tuba players…you should listen to Morris brown vs. southern university in 2000…
Great Video!! I had to take a second look and check my ears to make sure that was not my Sonic Boom! Thank you for showcasing our past OG's of HBCU Bands in the past. Morris Brown use to spoken in the same sentence as JSU/FAMU/GRAMBLING as being the best HBCU band (back in the day). Please keep doing videos like these and maybe comparison of then and now. Excellent video and commentary. #TheeILove #IBelieve
For sure man!! Thanks for tuning in. Alot of people just aren't aware. But they should be recognized for sure. Going to work in a short story about them.
New President killed the school but the band never truly died. Mr. Kelly Fanning used to arrange and announce for my high school. Burn rubber, 5 steps, breaking dishes, spotlight groove, here and now. He made sure we knew about the brown
I was a Wolverine in the early nineties under Dr. Johnson and Kelly. We looked and sounded great because practice never seemed to end. We actually practiced more than the football team. From 4pm until……. I remember getting home after 1am a few times. The good ole days.
A Bar by Bill Collector vs Bandit Montana bought me here. An Absolute great review of a Band I never heard of 🔥🔥. Thank you. Perhaps a review of Bill's battle might be an interest to many. I certainly would. @GATESOFTHEGARDEN

No shade at all (both of my parents graduated from there), but MBC was notorious for picking up extra pieces from the surrounding high schools (WHS in particular) and kids who would soon become MBC band members.
They were definitely instrumental (pun intended lol) in turning more students to getting in band programs across the south. I was in high school during that sweet spot of 2001 & 2002 MBC leading the way and Drumline premiering.
