No shade at all (both of my parents graduated from there), but MBC was notorious for picking up extra pieces from the surrounding high schools (WHS in particular) and kids who would soon become MBC band members.

Morris Brown was really a style all there own. I have to say though, around 2000 when Bubblin got a re-charge it really sealed the deal for this band. They just had a style that set them apart.

It's tradition. They normally pay "marches" on the 2nd selection. Hope they bring the gym battles back. BTW, song selections were Children of Sanchez and Malaguena.

Thank you for recognizing/highlighting Morris Brown College Marching Wolverine band's contribution to HBCU marching band excellence!! We are the G.O.A.T.!!! The Marching Wolverines were a trendsetter that other bands still look to for ideas and inspiration. My sister and I were privileged to be a member of the band in the late 70"s (76-80) and thoroughly enjoyed my time in the band. The musicianship and work ethics instilled in us by our Professor and Band Director, Mr. Cleopas Johnson, is still with me today. My son and a cousin were also in the band in the early 2000s when Drumline was made ("It's All About the Tubas!!"). I will forever be thankful for the opportunity afforded to me to participate. I am forever a Marching Wolverine!! #Ibleedpurple

This is as close to all the major things that my dad, Harold J. Haughton Sr. did as far as the history of the Sonic Boom of the South is concerned. So many people have come up with their own story of how the band got its nickname. This report is pretty close to how it happened. You have to remember, I basically grew up on the campus of Jackson State University because I was at band practice nearly everyday with my dad. It is true that the band selected the nickname from a group of names. What most people don't know is that my dad was the one who put the name Sonic Boom of the South in the pool of names. He explained to me that he came up with this name based on how the band sounded and on what type of sound the band had. Too many others have tried to take credit for this. Well, let me stop that right now. If you never knew the whole story, now you know. To the gentleman who is on this video, thank you for shedding light on how impactful for father was and continues to be. I truly appreciate it. So let's just put the truth out once and for all. There is no Sonic Boom of the South without Harold J. Haughton Sr. The mark of his legacy will always be the foundational fabric of this program.

This clip was my freshman year being at Morris Brown and being in the band. 2000 was the year that the band was 300+. We were in the SIAC and then we went Independent. We were never in the SWAC, we just happened to play against several SWAC schools

I was attending Morris Brown starting in 1999. I grew up in South DeKalb County where Southwest DeKalb, Stephenson, Redan, Cedar Grove, Lithonia, Columbia..I can keep naming them all h the way to the Westside high schools. Morris Brown Marching Band was the Southwest DeKalb of College bands if you grew up in that time you know. Morris Brown by far was the Best Band in the Land.

Dude you can't compare a song dat was written for one year to other years they played it cause it was written for dat one year base of the strengths of the band let's say it was written for da mellows cause they was strong then da band five years later pulls it out and play it and they mellows ain't dat strong it's going to sound different

The arraignment is good. What I like about Southern is the power. What I hate about Southern is the .....power. It literally sounds like 40 brass players going for solos. This is a gospel song. Where's the finesse....or build up to a climax.

My parents went to Mo Brown, played in this band, and after they graduated in the late 1970’s, my Daddy was the Assistant Band Director of this amazing band in the 80’s and 90’s. This is the band I grew up around. During the 80’s and 90’s the only band that could rival them, truly, was FAMU. They were truly one of the best bands in the land.

The order of these songs are out of place. It didnt happen this way at the event. Not sure why the poster reorganuzed the order of songs
