Growing up in Jackson, it was imperative that you knew the J5 Get Ready routine. Being a dance drum major in high school in the 90s, I watched all my pop's VHS tapes of the band to choreograph our routines. Them dudes were special
@@phillyswiftsteak5188’Drumline’ was about a fictional school at the end of the day. I think Morris Brown being chosen as the nemesis stakes their claim.
@Rhinosaurus1000 it doesn't. Other schools didn't want to be in it like FAMU because all the bands weren't fictional and they said realistically they would never be beat by MBC
🌊🌊🌊 its all love...me being from jackson but marched at texas southern i feel ya i had to get used to their style as well especially growing up watching jackson state dms for years...but dem 3 in the ocean be doing their thing
Don’t act like yall never tried to do a J5 drummajor move. It’s kinda like when you used to lean back and shoot a paper ball in the trash can & say “Kobe!!”
That's stuff is majorette movements, just an extension of those girls yall have in front of your programs... Looks like they are auditioning for Richard Simmons aerobics video

I get it!!! However, HBCU bands are show bands. Therefore, while there is a whole lot that takes place in their single performance, the overall impression left is that of superb teamwork. Not to mention, the whole entire band may perform a choreographed dance at any given moment. With due respect to the talented drum majors, HBCU Bands never ceases to amaze the captivated audience!!! 💎 💎 💎 💎 💎
Subscribed because of the UNA shirt! The Marching Pride always produces on of the best Marching Band performances I’ve ever seen.. I also love da HBCU’s Alabama A&M was my first love, but Alabama State just because of the Honey Bee’s
Y'all don't understand the AURA Purple Haze had. When they came through you knew Morris Brown was out for blood. Greatest field run-on I've ever seen 😮💨
Being from FL glad to see we in the building HARD. Never really paid attention to Bethune 🤔 Def know about Fam but J5… I’ve heard about that Sonic boom… loved this
The SU vs JSU rival has really been restored when Deion started coaching at JSU. Since then JSU band has kicked it up 2 notches. For me it’s really nostalgic watching them compete because I grew up in the SWAC, watching those teams battle every year. Now it’s even better because we have FAMU in the league , their band is hot garbage, I think they get random student together put a uniform on them and tell them to speed walk, it looks boot leg as hell I know all them damn kids don’t know the songs that they play.
He’s right! It was truly a pleasure to march for Thee Jackson State University’s: Sonic Boom of The South! 💂🏾☝🏽🔹Long Live J5 Ambitious Funk™️ 2012-2014
I just recently started watching these bands and I am totally blown away. They are MILES away from the bands in my area. I do wonder, though, with all the talent and hard work that these drum majors put into their performances, what do they do after graduation? What kind of occupations do they find that measures up to all that high energy and extreme work that they were used to doing?
@haywoodlucas6577 I respect your ranking. I would sub bcu with texas southern. Concerning SU, most hbcu bands started with 1 drum major. The old bands were styled after either big 10 conference bands or the military because many founding directors were either military, educated at big 10 schools or both. At SU, we learned hbcu band history---yes, that is a thing only at SU.

I'm humble opinion. There are no other drum majors more classy than "Purple Haze". Although Morris Brown's marching band is not former selves. They had a classy "Pat Boom" style that's no longer seen. Wow, miss that marching wolverine band.
I can say he know a little something because he got #1 right Jackson state got the baddest drum majors year after year and yes Morris Brown should have been on the list in my opinion..
Finally someone said it!! J5 is on another level. No Comparison, No Competition!!

Drumline didn't do them enough justice. Morris Brown made a movie with every field show

@ck-1769 now how many breaks do they take during halftime in their show.

His top 5 are about right. BCU, A&T, FAMU, JSU were dead on. I would have gave SU the honorable mention only b/c they have one drum major.
