Bianca, I know you said that you were nervous to post this kind of historical sewing content on your channel, but this series has been FANTASTIC!!!!! The project is everything my little goth soul desires and it is producing a stunning garment, but most of all, your passion for this project shows through in every way and it has been a joy to watch! Thanks so much for the absolutely stellar content! ❤️❤️❤️
I actually had tears in my eyes when you did the reveal!! Please do more webs between the rows of leaves down the frontman of the bodice. Epic. The brooch just blew my mind and yes I would love to see more of that. You look ravishing in the bodice. Incredible makeup and your skin seems very gothic and pale. Hah! If you are doing things with bugs, you should totally make a bug scientist outfit for it! I hope you aren’t in too much permanent pain, but I think your sacrifice is worth it for your end result! And I forgot to mention the back bodice bat points! Swoon!!! The B Roll, the music, the project scope are so impressive! Incredible. We are not worthy. You are a goddess.
Thank you Thea! ❤❤❤ More webs needed indeed, will do. The muscle pain is indeed fading thankfully! I actually rested yesterday...it felt very strange 😅
Bianca! gurl! I KNOW you must have done either some theatre work or done some costuming or creative work in TV or movie! YOU GOT THAT FLAVOR! THE VIBE! THE AURA!! GO HEAD GURL! DO THE DOGGONE THING!!
OMG😍 These are stunning and you look beautiful 😍. I have a tip for sewing while in agony... or to prevent the agony. Bring the work up to you on big over-stuffed pillows. Prop your own arms up with soft bed pillows to support. This can be done on the sofa using a big sofa pillow to raise your work. Lighting is key as is learning to isolate your arm and back muscles to hold them relaxed while using your hands actively to sew. I was taught this by my occupational therapist who hooked me up to electrodes for biofeedback while isolating and relaxing back, neck and arms. We have body memory so as soon as you find and learn YOUR personal technique you can re-invoke it at will. Hope you feel better soon❤️ Epsom salt baths are a thing😘
Thank you Karin! I think holding myself strangely for the camera to capture what I was doing, or trying to, was most of the problem really. I sadly don't have a bathtub which is a real bummer!
Flannel pajamas from Old Navy, prior to picking up my own sewing, was my normal House Fraus wear. Also, I believe that’s it’s mandatory requirement to be a lover of some sort of scifi, fantasy, high profit chain to be a successful RUclipsr. So you’re on the path of success.
Dracula ribbon seduces and bites the other ribbons. It looks GLORIOUS! The points in the back are just *chef's kiss*. And I will always support more spiderwebs.
I haven’t watched the whole thing yet but can I just say props to this video. Wow, Bianca. The editing, visuals, and history behind this is just awesome. I don’t know why your channel isn’t bigger. I love this so much. ♥️ hope you are staying safe in these crazy times.
I agree, the work she puts into her videos is outstanding and she deserves way more subs! This series has been so great though, and I think we are going to see her channel grow and grow!
We have to share her work as much as possible so many more people see it. I agree that she should have many more subscribers. Her work is great and listening to how things all come together is funny and real.
@@TheClosetHistorian If there was ever a way to entice you to do a tutorial (with eyeshadow recommendations) for the makeup you are wearing at the beginning of this video, the universe (and particularly me!) would be ever so grateful!!!! Let me know if you accept payments in cookies?
I've been pacing myself and watching the videos of this project in order and the satisfaction of seeing you finally get to work with the silk is palpable.
Absolutely stunning! It’s so exciting to watch this project develop! The cicada pin is amazing, it would be cool to see more bits and bobs like that in the future.
It looks so good! The fit and the shape of the tails was amazing, and then you added that stunning beadwork and lace on top of it. I can't wait for the rest of the project. And the effort you put into the editing with the music and B-roll are totally worth it.
THIS IS AMAZING (sorry, am I shouting? I woke my cat up)! Imagine if the skirt was green, and on the fantastic tail points of that bodice, you had black tassels/beading - agh! This is so gorgeous, well done, and what an experience this mini-series was, I don't even sew, and I have been glued to my screen!
Stretching out big time before sitting down to hand sew helps a lot with the hurting back. Take breaks to stretch every half hour or so. It really helps a lot. Soaking in epsom salts in the bath along with Dr. Teals's epsom salt and menthal bath soak does wonders. Something that I do when I get off of work, when doing hotel housekeeping.
Stretching and breaks are both new concepts to me ha! Unfortunately I do not have a bathtub, one day I'll have a giant claw foot one maybe, a girl can dream!
You Miss are my favourite You Tube person of All Time. I can listen to you all day, fab voice, great attitude, honest reactions, funny and beautiful. What more could you wish for. 😊😊
Its stunning! I love the cobwebs and the back hemline. I'm so inspired! Perhaps wearing your corset while sewing may help with your posture problems? It's hard to crunch up in a corset
FANTASTIC!!! the brooch is totally lovely, i can't believe how it turned out....I also don't like pattern weights, I rock it old school too by pinning the pattern to fabric. Thanks for sharing your adventure...
Because green is my favorite color, I find the silk taffeta to be absolutely stunning. I saved your video for the evening hours so I could dedicate all 55 minutes to watching. And the black beaded beauty you created just blows my mind. I'm so sorry you are sore from the project. The creative process can be very painful sometimes. I ended up with a very sore wrist after completing an embroidery piece last year. And I recall a sore neck for a while from intense work on hand cartooning. But I look back on it now as part of my creative life. Thanks for sharing this B. Your work is beloved by so many of us.
I quilt. Hand sewing... I have a brace thing I had to wear after cracking my collar bone. It is basically a padded figure 8 that promotes better posture. I have seen something similar being called "posture Perfect" in ads on youtube. It helps me to not put my body in bad positions when hand sewing.
I love watching you cut paper with those special shears, something satisfying about it. :) I want some! I'm at the beginning of the vid, looking forward to seeing the end garment!
I hate to say do more work, but I do think your spider web idea on the front is an excellent one and should be done. I, for one, would love to see you make a beaded pin- something not black- so that it is easier to see what you are doing. I am loving this series you are doing and think everything is turning out so gorgeous!
This is an amazing project, and my tip for back and shoulder pain is to stand at regular intervals and exercise your shoulders and neck, stretch, circle your shoulders to release the lactate acid in your muscles. ❤️
Truly gorgeous! The colour is unbelievable on you and the fabric is as smooth as I've seen anyone manage to get taffeta. The cicada brooch is stunning! I really hope you have enough fabric for the ball bodice, so we get three beautifully embellished bodices! (Well, we get the videos, you get the bodices, everyone wins!)
I love the black and white. That's just me. I love that music fabric in your mock up. I recently lost my father and I have been going through my mom's cedar chest and I found a top my mom had in the early 50's with music on it. I loved it but there is no way I can wear my mom's clothing. I am a big girl. Not just over weight but considerably taller. I love this series. It's awesome.
very nicely done! I hope you can eventually find accessories for the 99- I have buttonholer, zig zagger, all the feet. You can get a piping foot which is nice for when you start piping (it becomes addictive) - and maybe get an adjustable table and pillow to bring your handwork up to a height to limit your hunching. It helps. No novel has ever surprise me more from what I assumed than Dracula. The unabridged version is just amazing - for gothic I recommend Dragonwyk. it is a spellbinding gothic romance.
Thank you Christina! I have indeed found a buttonholer attachment for the 99k but it does intimidate me to use it, I need to practice with it more first!
Just play with your scraps. By adjusting tension, cording the buttonholes you can get amazing results. I’ve done a wider and then a narrow on top for a two tone buttonhole. So. Much. Fun.
Absolutely magical, that's how you look in this bodice! 😍 The brooch is mesmerizing in its glittering glory, and the trim on the sleeves is so inspiring. Thank you 🤗
falling asleep, so i skipped ahead to the end and I LOVE IT!! (even if you can't use the pretty buttons). they will find their garment. i also love what you did with the tails! works perfect for that outfit. you and some of the other seamstresses i have started watching have encouraged me to try to get back into sewing and i worked on trying to make a self drafted chemise type garment. i have some vintage cotton fabric that i would never wear, to use for mock up. i just got it pieced tonight. will try to sew tomorrow.
My spellbound son just murmured, "...She looks like the Queen of the Vampires..." So mission accomplished, yes? Seriously, this is the level of sewing I aspire to. And that brooch is so lovely. A timelapse of the beading process would be amazing in future :) Thank you for taking us along with you on this amazing project.
For quite awhile now I have actively binged costuming research and construction vids and I think this bodice construction vid is one of the best i have ever seen! You have such a gift for planning, patterning, fitting, constructing and presenting your projects clearly and with great humor. So so enjoyable to watch. Thank you, and your sore back, for making this.
It's so good seeing how all this is done for future reference. Lining always does my head in! Dracula ribbon should be a term. All the white stitches remind me of Catwoman.
I have a contemporary dress in a dupioni that same colour! I love the green-black colour play and the crisp swooshy noise it makes. Ermagurd, watching this while I whip stitch overcast the seams on a "walking skirt" lol. Just got to the end of the video, I love it! The fit is great and the embellishments are so pretty. I really like the little bit of lace at the cuffs. The whole vibe is badass and super feminine.
I have to say, the bodice came out beautiful!!! Love the color and the embellishments!! Oh and the back tail/train!! I'm drooling here!! You can always use the buttons on the evening bodice. 😉
You look incredible in this bodice! I am living for these videos. I also loved seeing the making of the brooch, and would love to see more! I have been so looking forward to your videos each week. I know you're going to receive a heap of advice for back pain, but for my sewing related back pain I use one of those foam rollers under my upper back, lie down on the floor and just roll it out. You can also use this thing called a "peanut" on a yoga block. (it hurts so good!) It has saved me from having to get regular massages haha!
Gorgeous! When you talked about getting a more sustainable posture for hand sewing I was reminded of a documentary on samurai swords that I watched. In the very last step the sword is polished by hand and is a time consuming and labor intensive process. I remember that the sword polisher said it took him ten years to learn how to sit properly. Needless to say, that would not have been a career for me.
I'm really enjoying your channel. It's nice to watch you express your creativity on an historically inspired garment without being too precious about it. Makes me want to try!
All parts of this ensemble are gorgeous. I love the Green and black and the jeweled parts so very beautiful. I loved your makeup and styling. I just can't gush enough about how much I love this costume. Your work is amazing.
It amazes me how beautiful different eras look on people. You have a very Victorian shape! I do wish that people would be okay with moving away from stick women fashion. This is just drop dead beautiful. You are very goth! And the Steampunk idea is wonderful. May you have lots of time and money to do more of this. It soothes the soul to see this kind of creativity. You certainly couldn't buy this!
Beautiful, gorgeous, awesome, lovely! Brava! It looks fantastic on you! Here is what helped my back: I put my arms in the shape of a W, such that my hands are out to my sides, palms facing front, and about shoulder height. Go to a door jam, narrower is better, grasp the door jams, and slowly lean forward so that my shoulder blades move together. Lean forward and back slowly. If no door jam is available, then squeeze shoulder blades together. It stretches my shoulders in the opposite direction from when I am sitting hunched over. My posture has totally improved and I can do things that I haven't been able to do for a few years. Also, sit like a S, not a C. Look it up.
This bodice is STUNNING!! I am not often lost for words but ... I have not enough superlatives to describe the look and when I think of the amount of work it took!! WOW! And the embellishments...and finally the spectacular brooch. I hope you are able to finish the skirt to go with the bodice. It would be wonderful to see the whole ensemble. Thankyou so much for sharing this with us.
Absolutely gorgeous! Watching you modify patterns is inspiring. You make it look accessible. I also hunch when sewing - usually after a day at my machine I need Icy hot patches and gentle yoga to recover. Putting a throw pillow between my back and the chair reminds me to sit back and helps - when I remember to do it!
That colour and whole entourage.. it suits you and compliments you So well! Just Beautiful, even Stunning! 🤗 Know that all the pain, sweat and probably tears of joy after finishing 😉😜😁 is totally worth it all, I just wished I'd could do it, had the figure for it and.. the skills to do my hair and gorgeous make-up like you can! Thank you for all, it was a joy to see the end result, hopefully someday you take it outside and show it in natural light, that I would love to see one day 🤗👌
Thank you Kaya! You can see some sun photos of the finished gown here if you want to see the shine theclosethistorian.blogspot.com/2020/11/victorian-vampire.html ✨
Here I am enjoying your video with my early morning coffee. I am about to mock up a pattern for my 3yr old granddaughter. She has taken an interest in The Trolls. I found some sparkle, turquoise fabric, at Walmart. When time allows, I will be putting together a dress that will be reminiscent of Poppy Troll. Thanks for sharing your beautiful work!
To reliefe the back posture pain I usually stitch with my corset on! It doesn't allow you to hunch over like you normally would and you can wear your corsert and season it a bit more :)
Bianca thee bodice is great. The brooch is wonderful. I would like to see more of your bead making ideas, or even time lapse videos. I'm enjoying this series of dressmaking. I can't wait to see what else you are going to make next. Hope your back and neck are getting better after all that hand sewing.
'Two bodices, one skirt' sounds like a book I need to read LOL Thank you for sharing your remarkable work. I hope a hot bath will help with your soreness from hand sewing. Sending lots of healing vibes and well wishes xo
Funnily enough rayon was discovered in the 1880s so technically, technically, the binding is accurate.

Whenever you're doing a lot of hand sewing, wearing your corset saves your posture, literally.
This is exactly what I was about to recommend

The green silk is stunning! It's a beautiful top!💗💗
Thank you Joanna!
I absolutely adore watching you sew, and the way you discuss your work and your jokes are just *chefs kiss* hope your back feels better!!!
Thank you Holly! Already on the mend!
Bravo. Standing ovation. I hope The Cicada Dress by THC goes viral. Well done!
Thank you! ❤❤
I'm really enjoying your channel. It's nice to watch you express your creativity on an historically inspired garment without being too precious about it. Makes me want to try!
Thank you Jennifer!
The green is so gorgeous!💚💚💚 and the bugs are lovely. Your cicada is wonderful, too. So well done 🤩💃🏻
Thank you Diana!
I gasped when I saw the green silk
Thank you Gloria!
Goth dream fabric. I'll say! Delish! I often wonder what my dream fabric would be.
And well done on getting the new scissors!
Thank you Kaytie!
Bianca, just WOW. That was a lot of work, but it turned out so fantastic! A very good project! Thanks!
Thank you Tim!
This looks so good! I'm so excited to see the whole finished project!
Thank you Jessi!
I’m speechless. B - this bodice, utterly jaw dropping. Exquisite!
Thank you Jessie!
All parts of this ensemble are gorgeous. I love the Green and black and the jeweled parts so very beautiful. I loved your makeup and styling. I just can't gush enough about how much I love this costume. Your work is amazing.
Thank you Denise! 💚
Someone invite this woman to a ball! She's earned it! 😍
Thank you! ❤
Stunning! fabulous fabric and amazing beading... one clever seamstress :-)
Thank you Adam!
I love that I can see how proud you are of yourself in the reveal shots. You look gorgeous and can be really really proud of you for making this!
Thank you! 💚
Goodness this is so beautiful 💚💚💚💚 this green is 👌👌👌. The moth is gorgeous too. Xxx
Thank you Frankie!
Look it up.
Thank you Pamela!
Thank you Robyn! Somehow the skirts got done in time, it was magic but I didn't get a ton of the process on film 😅
Thank you Amy!
That colour and whole entourage.. it suits you and compliments you So well! Just Beautiful, even Stunning! 🤗
Know that all the pain, sweat and probably tears of joy after finishing 😉😜😁 is totally worth it all, I just wished I'd could do it, had the figure for it and.. the skills to do my hair and gorgeous make-up like you can!
Beautiful bodice. Loved the cicada pin! I enjoy watching your long videos as I sew.
Thank you Michele!
I got actual goosebumps at the reveal. Astounding.
Thank you!
So incredibly in awe at all the hard work and gorgeous attention to detail. It paid off 🤗
Thank you! ❤
Stunning! That green, tho...no words! I love the back, and the cidada is amazing!
Thank you! 💚
Of course it´s a crescent moon! ;)
Absolute STUNNING work!!! 💜
Thank you! 🌙
Be still, my Slytherin heart! Stunning work, and that brooch. My my my, what an inspiration.
Thank you Christena!
Gorgeous! Doing beading on clothing is so intimidating to me. You make it look so easy.
Thank you Amy! It isn't too hard luckily, have a go practicing on some scraps maybe, I can perhaps do a video about it in more detail sometime!
Absolutely amazing!! The color is so rich...gorgeous gown!! Awesome job ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Angela!
The bodice is absolutely beautiful! You look stunning in it. And I love all the embellishments you did! Especially the cicadas.
Thank you! 🖤
Thank you Fay! I have been taking a few days to rest which has felt strange, but was essential indeed!
'Two bodices, one skirt' sounds like a book I need to read LOL
Thank you for sharing your remarkable work. I hope a hot bath will help with your soreness from hand sewing. Sending lots of healing vibes and well wishes xo
Thank you Dawn!
Fabulous as always. Loving your Halloween setting. 💀☠☠☠😈👺👹👿
Thank you! 🎃🎃🎃
I love watching your process, it’s so beautiful on you!! Stunning!
