- This heart-to-heart chat about something that shook me to the core, and I aint' gonna lie it had me thinking long and hard about my choices.
I'm sharing my story, the lessons learned, and some solid advice for navigating these obstacles living in this country or any other.

Yes I know what you mean it’s hard to pick a place. It’s either too expensive or just dangerous. NYC is a hot mess! I get anxiety every time I go there

It's so frustrating that we can't live among our own species and feel safe. I've been "glamping" in the middle of nowhere and felt safer than being near other humans.

Glad you're safe. Your living community does look very nice. Motion activated outside lights might be a good deterrent for you. (I live in an apartment building and people try our doors during the day now and then. Mine are always locked and I live a few floors up. My neighborhood is usually pretty safe but there are occasional break-ins, as with anywhere. It's often someone masquerading as a salesman who is also looking to get an unlocked door and to grab a few things and run.) I keep a baseball bat next to my bed just in case.
Yeah it's avage out here like I said, and I had the motion lights for months and just never put them up, that's what I mean I got too comfortable 🤨 Gonna invest in a baseball bat as well 😜

I think it is important and generous of you to share a variety of topics that might make a difference or be of interest.

I think many of us assume living inside a Privada with gates and security that you have nothing to worry about when it comes to safety.
This is now apparent that this is not necessarily so.
The lesson here as you reiterated, is do your due diligence.
Lock up, Camera up,
Light up & Gear up no matter where you live in today’s world.
You would think with your neighbors being home and lights on that would have deterred these thieves. Pretty darn brazen!
Makes me wonder if they got caught in the act and/or made off with anything.

Crime happens Everywhere. However some Merida content creators only show the good part because they benefit financially by promoting the area!

Break ins are common in merida especially since the arrival of so many foraneos (Mexicans from other states)
I have a problem with that too: the RUclipsrs here in Merida only focusing on how "wonderful" Merida is and not telling the whole story.
I think people should be told any negatives so they can make an informed decision.

I know that they happen a bit on the beach: Chelem, Chuburna, etc.

unfortunately, violence and terrible things happen EVERYWHERE!! The fact that people think there's some special place where nothing can go bad real fast and we must always be aware of surroundings. I hate to hear that but yeah it’s easy to get comfortable .Many times I’ve woke up for the day and found I forgot to lock my front door and I rarely lock my service door because of the pool cleaner. I’m hoping I don’t return to some BS. Be safe ! Even though we have security ,things obviously still happens. 🦋

Honestly it reminds of back in the day especially when I visited family in the south, nobody locked the damn door and you could just walk up in ya friends house and yell out a name like “…📢 where you at” somebody momma yell back “close that door behind you” and you reply “ma’am” like seriously what happened to them days 🤦🏽♀️ SMDH I guess I was really feelin myself 😂
Yes! And still to this day , in Merida, I will go to the mall and not lock the door when I leave , windows either. I did that in Alabama and Florida as well. I know better 😳 . Dont let me catch Ese coming up in my house while I’m home. 🚔🔪💪🏽

Moving is big time stressful. You’re leaving one place with its creepy environment going to a place where hopefully there is an increased level of safety. You still have to(really should) have some means of self protection. When you’re really wanting to retire for the night, the last thing you want to do is to check the doors🚪. As hard and costly as it is to lock the windows 🪟 and doors, make sure you have a good camera setup, and 👍🏾neighbors who are watchful too( you just have to do it for them too) you’re all well and good. I’m so glad LaShaun that you are safe and sound in your new abode🏠😀!

Mein Schatz, please be extra careful. I have lived overseas my entire adult life, and at the end of the day, you are a foreigner living in a different country. We are often targeted for the perceived amount of wealth we have. My house in the Philippines was recently broken into along with five other homes surprisingly owned by foreigners.
