- Martial eagles are the largest living eagles in Africa. They are so strong, they can knock an adult human off there feet and they sometimes prey on larger animals such as baboon and gazelles! These big birds look for prey on the wing, often flying so high overhead they can't be seen with the naked human eye. Martial eagles are so tough they're referred to as the leopards of the air! Martial eagles are believed to be monogamous and often have a two year gap between laying eggs. Their populations are decreasing due to run-ins with humans and human related construction.
Scientific Name: Polemaetus bellicosus
Range: sub-Saharan Africa
Size: wingspan of 6.5 to 8.5 feet (200-260cm); weight of 6.6 to 13.6 pounds (3-6.2kg)
Diet: hares, guinea fowl, mongooses, hyraxes, baboons, gazelles, and more
Lifespan: 14 years on average

Calling it an erroneous idea is a bit far I feel, especially since like you said it can take down gazelles and baboons(which is amazing by the way, damn), maybe in the past attacks on livestock used to be more frequent. When you have tons of animals around trying to kill your livelihood you might become a bit paranoid I think,
