This was the first time I got a Blaster Launcher in 200 hours, and I only key about it because I read about it. You need to take down a battleship in order to research it, which I doubt most people accomplished in their first runs.

Is there any reason to not reasearch meld? I thought there was a skill you could give to soldiers that increases their chance to bleed out rather than just dying.

Yeah, the Secondary Heart Gene Mod. Between 150 meld per soldier, the dollar cost of the Genetics Lab + each upgrade and the risk of having to rush meld cans on every UFO to be able to get it, it's really not worth it at this point.
And because I find leaving the first upgrade in the tree unresearched really, really funny.
