I have the head version and a 1X12 cab with an Eminence EM12. This amp does everything I need it to, and that's saying a lot. This is a desert island amp for sure.
Just bought this amp .. after 5 years of not playing at all. It is awesome.. no pedals required! However..you , sir , are clearly an AMAZING player & truly bring the best out of the amp 👍
I appreciate Tom's technical knowledge and straight forward approach to this demo. I feel he was personal without attempting a clown routine. i got answers about this amp and I plan on purchasing this model in a few days! Thanks, Tom Quayle!
wait, for this amp, the cab clone, can you just use a real cab? is the cab clone a simulation of a cab without using a cab? please explain, I am desperate.
This is the best review of this amp I’ve seen. Especially appreciate your playing ability and in depth but concise explanation of all the settings. Nice job. Thanks.
I forgot my speaker cable the other day. This amp got me out of a bind. Plugged it in direct and it killed it. I still prefer the speaker but, the cab clone is not shabby at all. Great amp.:)
how does the cab clone work? if you just buy the head mark v: 35, does it come with cab clone? also if you hook it up to a real cab, how does it work please explain...

This was a really great review of the amp; clearly describing and illustrating features and demoing the sounds. I would have liked to hear a mic'ed cab as well by comparison, but the cab clone sounded pretty good to me. Your playing is terrific, and that guitar sounds fantastic as well. One thing I recently learned was that the Five: 35 cab clone has additional cabinet emulation options that are not offered in the Five:25 - maybe that is why some of the commenters noted that it sounded better than other demos of cab clone. I'm subscribing, if your other reviews and content are up to this level of quality, this is a great channel!
Not sure if that's the case; in the video he says they're using the "Closed Back' CabClone option, while only the "Vintage" option is unique to the V:35. I think some people simply don't like it, but I think it sounds great here.
@@scottsmith7051 Congrats! I'm so buzzed for you. Mine is still waiting on shipment. Could be anywhere between April and August. So pumped! How is it??
@@tomcharlwood1031 Hi Tom, Big bad news about my 5:35... It came with a cracked tube. So the only sound I got was a loud hiss and then POP! Russia must be the only country that makes vacuum tubes, and well, we know what's going on with russia and sanctions. Sweetwater said they don't know when they are going to get any new tubes. So I am out of luck for who knows how long. Having said that, the amp is gorgeous.
Fyi...when switching channels, if you have a different wattage setting between the 2, ie.. Ch 1 set for 10w and Ch2 set for anything different, you will get a popping sound as he did here @11:13. And for the record, the popping sound is much more louder in person. If you have both channels set at the same wattage, doesn't matter what it is, then you will not get that popping sound.

It would be awesome if each channel had an individual output so you can record or play live in stereo but I may just be asking for too much lol. This is actually my favorite amp in the world!
Great review Tom ... I've had my Mark V 35 combo for a few months now and love it's versatility. I just wanna be able to play your licks now ... ha ha.
is it loud enough to play say... a bar gig? or would you mic it with a full band behind you????? THANKS! very interested. Cant handle the 100 watt boogies anymore. Cumbersome...
as good as the new cab clone might sound, the vast majority of people interested in this amp will use the speaker almost exclusively. That makes this entire review pretty much useless since it completely misses what we want to hear..
For what its worth, the major selling point for me on this amp WAS the cab clone XLR out. I play weekly at my church and platform volume control is very important. Having the ability to go direct from the power amp section of a high quality tube amp to a sound board is huge. The three different speaker voice choices are just icing on the cake. I end up using the vintage voicing the most because it rolls the highs off a bit and creams the sound nicely. The actual speaker sound is a good sound when the amp is really pushing hard, but otherwise it can be boxy. Mesa tone tends to be clinical in the high end and the distortion character is quite sharp. Without saturating the power tubes, the sound can be a but fatiguing, but like he said, that also means playing really loud. Mesa Boogie produced some well recorded example videos of mic'ed cabs for both 4x12 and 1x12 paired Mark 5:35's. Check them out!
regardless of the head, V30s are a bit harsh and ear piercing if you dont push them to make that cone wiggle a bit more.. if you don't care too much about low end i'd say yes.
If you leave all settings the same, is there a huge volume jump between Fat and Crunch on channel 1? I have the Mark V 25 and it has that jump. I have heard the 35 fixed that. Is this true?
Hey....nice video and nice playing too. I have owned a Mesa Mark IIA and also currently have a Mark IV. Love the Mesa amps. I have been toying with this model as the Mark IV is around 65 pounds and a little too heavy to be portable/lite weight for jamming. I gave you a sub.
I agree. I was surprised to hear this tone be a little bitey at the neck. Wanted to like this amp because of the versatility but it doesn't have that hifi aspect.
Is this really the Fibenare guitar straight into the amp? No pedals? And I don't quite understand -- he says they're plugged into CabClone with the presumption that it's going straight into the recording, but the note above says it's cabcone into the studio 4x12 cab, which presumably is then mic'd. What's the point of that, and doesn't it affect the sound of the CabClone?
It's a popping sound. I commented on it above. I own the amp. The wattage on both channels has to be the same or else when you switch channels, you get that popping sound. It is much louder in person.
I had a great bunch of laughs reading along with the closed captioning as he spoke. It must very hard to understand ENGLISH to the typographers I guess? hahaa
