Frankenstein Monster #6 is the best example of Mike Ploog's art. The details and use of color is top notch. You can see shades of his work on John Carpenter's The Thing with his giant spider. Just beautiful art!
I have 85% of the books on your list, all in grade. My Vampi #1 was bought for 50 cents when I was a kid. I still have it. The Witching Hour #1 is a Nick Cardy cover, not Adams. Great list.
Great presentation - speaking as the happy owner of 6/10 of your top choices. Btw, That Witching Hour #1 cover is by Nick Cardy. Otherwise, carry on! Personal favourite of the era: House of Secrets #96 (Wrightson) - unbelievable quality.
If I remember vampitella was painted nude for the cover and someone added her costume. Ghost riders filled the quarter boxes when I started collecting in the middle 70s. Don't forget Wayne howard
I love skull covers and there are TONS of them in the witching hour run! I almost have all of them..but not in high grade..upgrading them will be the next step! 💀❤☠️❤
I remember the whole Marvel bronze horror series (WBN, TOD, & Ghost Rider) are what got me back into comics back in the mid 70's. Also enjoy revisiting these comics.
Great list! I got the wonder woman some years ago, and when I got home I found out it had severely rusted staples :( Shout out to chilling adventures in sorcery 3, my personal favorite bronze horror cover.
Surprised by a couple of omissions, Witching hour #13, House of secrets #103, Tomb of Dracula #6 which I like much better than #1 and the overlooked Chamber of darkness #4 by Marie Severin & Bill Everett but I could come up with a list of top 100 easily. I have been a bronze horror fan since the bronze age
I grew up reading the Charlton, DC & Marvel horror comics and while they might be tame by todays and pre-code standards, as a kid I loved them and continue to do so, I wish mom didn't throw them away, what a waste. I bought 3 or 4 short boxes full of horror comics of low to mid-grade basically reader copy books but bagged & boarded about 30 years ago at about $1.00 each and I actually treasure them. As a "collector" on a tight budget I could never afford the high-grade books so for the old classics I have many reprints, I have the "Silver Age Classics" version of House of Mystery and have always loved the cover. I also picked the B&W Marvel reprints of "Tomb of Dracula" and "Frankenstein Monster." I have the EC reprints in comic form, and I wish that DC & Marvel would reprint their old books like that for us budget collectors who can't afford $30,000 each! Thanks for the video!
like your picks,... i agree the pch books are above the bronze, but---the bronze stuff is cool too,.... i also appreciate the fact that you included charlton, red circle and other companies,... keep up the good work rachel n dave............
I really really enjoyed this one. You gave DC a lot of love and deservedly so. They really shined in this genre during the 70s. I can't argue with any of your selections.
A great list! My favorite genre of comics AFTER romance. I’ll throw my favorite Charlton out there as Ghostly Haunts 41 with a Tom Sutton bondage cover. And I’ll also mention the tough magazine Gothic Romances 1
Putting Vampirella 1 in the honorable mention list is criminal! Still enjoyed the video, guys. Also, Witching Hour #1 cover is Nick Cardy. I'm having a great time :D seriously though, enjoyed the vid. A discussion worthy list for sure.
ha , I was just givin ya a hard time. Bronze horror (late late silver) has been slept on too long, but seems lately its getting more buzz. Just don't tell anyone about horror mags just yet!@@futurepastvintagecollectables
Hey guys, new to the channel. Really enjoy the content. The father and daughter bond is great. The two of you really have great insight and knowledge on the hobby 👊👍🙌
Great list of horror books. Its been fun but after 15 years of collecting comics I am down to my last 4 books to finish my collection but a Primer#2,TMNT#1, X-Men#1 1963 and maybe at least a page from Batman#1 1940 and I am done collecting.
Awesome video. I love seeing covers I have never seen before or may have missed. I like absorbing the knowledge i get watching your videos that will help me become a better collector. I love that you do this as a family. You always look like you're having a blast. Rachel is adorable.
love this video guys. DC bronze horror finally getting the love it deserves after years of being overlooked. Agree with most of your choices. I am a Adams/Wrightson freak so great to see so much love towards them...Keep these specific videos coming, LOVE IT !
Do another video on this topic. Open it up Dave. Let’s go into some off the run books that you like and that we may have never seen before. As fans of the channel, we’re really fans of what you traffic in. Let’s check it out!
With golden age horror becoming more and more price prohibitive Bronze Age horror will be the next target. I love horror cover/books. I had a HoS 92 CGC 3.0 that I sold back in 2018. I have another copy of HoS 92 that is low grade. It’s missing 2 pages but low grade is better than no grade imo lol😂 I’ll be on the look out for these books on the list. Great video as always.
Very interesting list, don't forget The Dark Mansion of Forbidden Love and Sinister House of Secret Love, Gothic Romance books that kicked off the Horror series.
Fantastic Job! You picked many covers that I Absolutely love! I would add many of course, one of my top 10 is House of Mystery 214, a SICK, Iconic (in my opinion) Wrightson cover with the hand of the voodoo priest that has faces on the fingertips!
I have been collecting comics for over 40 years, but I really missed the bus when it came to horror books. I have been trying to pick them up here and there, but most of the time they just are out of my price range for the grades I want. I would like to mention House of Secrets #88 and House of Secrets #90 to get my two cents worth in.
Soooo great video as always and am super happy to see Corben make your top 10. I own Death Rattle #1 in a very well love copy, nowhere near a 9.8 maybe a 6 if im lucky but im just happy to own one, not easy to come by.....at least when i got mine ( pre big internet ebay boom). I hope you do a copper age cover video. Like the Gore Shriek you scored ( hope you didn't sell it and i missed it) so many great covers to discover.
Not at all surprised at your top 10 list - the honorable mentions, though, caught me off guard in a good way. Lots of love given to these artists and titles throughout all of your content (have watched most if not all videos). I absolutely agree that this is a personal list and you could do a top 10 list for any number of titles, eras, publishers, artists and writers. In fact... I'd love to see a deeper dive on each of those subjects 🙂 Since you didn't show any love to Michael Kaluta in this video (but you have in others), I submit to you: HoM 261 as a start.
@@futurepastvintagecollectables your comment about Kirby and Kubert made me think of it tonight. Certainly more horror-ish than Kirby’s other Bronze work at DC. The mix of horror/hero is always a tough call, but I think I would lean towards horror.
Can anyone recommend any of these bronze age horror series that were really good reads? I don't care about value or condition, just looking for something cool to read. Thanks!
Well, it is in house of secrets, which was a horror comic, and it is a scary scenario of a first appearance. I don’t think it is a controversial pick, but I do appreciate your opinion.
Witching Hour #1 is a Nick Cardy cover, great choices though.
Frankenstein Monster #6 is the best example of Mike Ploog's art. The details and use of color is top notch. You can see shades of his work on John Carpenter's The Thing with his giant spider. Just beautiful art!
You guys are a frigging delight.
Love Neal Adam's art.
I have 85% of the books on your list, all in grade. My Vampi #1 was bought for 50 cents when I was a kid. I still have it. The Witching Hour #1 is a Nick Cardy cover, not Adams. Great list.
Great video! I love Ploog's Werewolf By Night!!!
I have the Bronze Age Omnibus releases for House of Mystery and House of Secrets. Great stuff!
Beautiful selection!
Great presentation - speaking as the happy owner of 6/10 of your top choices. Btw, That Witching Hour #1 cover is by Nick Cardy. Otherwise, carry on!
Personal favourite of the era: House of Secrets #96 (Wrightson) - unbelievable quality.
I always loved Scary Tales #13 from charlton comics. The colors and negative space really pops
If I remember vampitella was painted nude for the cover and someone added her costume. Ghost riders filled the quarter boxes when I started collecting in the middle 70s. Don't forget Wayne howard
Me i like the tomb of Dracula covers. If I remember correctly number 17, when Dracula faces a living skeleton 😮
I love skull covers and there are TONS of them in the witching hour run! I almost have all of them..but not in high grade..upgrading them will be the next step! 💀❤☠️❤
You probably already know this, but, Louise Simonson was the the model/inspiration for the female on the House of secrets 92 cover .
I remember the whole Marvel bronze horror series (WBN, TOD, & Ghost Rider) are what got me back into comics back in the mid 70's. Also enjoy revisiting these comics.
17:00 My favorite DC Bronze Age cover. For Marvel Bronze Age (non-horror), It's Marvel Two In One #1.
Great list! I got the wonder woman some years ago, and when I got home I found out it had severely rusted staples :(
Shout out to chilling adventures in sorcery 3, my personal favorite bronze horror cover.

It’s impossible to name top 10 of BA horror and not feel something is left out

Tomb of Dracula #1, THAT is my Dracula! Why Marvel has strayed from that is beyond me?
I got so involved watching this video that I almost forgot to comment on it. Great stuff.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Great video Future Past VC, I think I had a couple of these, thank you for the memories.
I have some of your books on your list...I like them all. Have to save my $$$ just to collect these in high grade from here till I die!
I really really enjoyed this one. You gave DC a lot of love and deservedly so. They really shined in this genre during the 70s. I can't argue with any of your selections.
I'm a Marvel guy, but DC had Horror and War Comic's won hands down.
Unfortunately back in those days I had no interest.
Now I have to play catch up.
@@o.g.comicsreview4555 Trust me, I get it. I was all about superheroes as a kid in the 70s.

Great video. Jack Kirby's 'Demon' maybe the closest to Kirby bronze horror.
Love all of those covers!

Neal Adams did the interior art.
I knew it was Nick Cardy, but for some reason I get mixed up by that. Thanks for the heads up!!

Awesome video as always but these bronze age horror videos are the best.😀
chefs kiss emoji from BoomStick357 🙂
Just beginning my collecting and love the channel - always learn something new everytime I watch - thank you
A correction, Witching Hour #1 has a cover by Nick Cardy, not Neil Adams
Overstreet grading book vs cgc grading book? Pros & Cons. 😀 Do you have a video about this?
Thanks for great video! Love the Bronze Age horror!! Where do you put Kirby’s The Demon? Horror or not?!?
I like it for the same reason as horror, but it feels a bit outside of that for some reason. Do you consider it horror?
@@futurepastvintagecollectables your comment about Kirby and Kubert made me think of it tonight. Certainly more horror-ish than Kirby’s other Bronze work at DC. The mix of horror/hero is always a tough call, but I think I would lean towards horror.

The Tomb of Dracula 1 shows how marvel inkers could ruin the work of even the best pencilers

Honestly they are all pretty good (early HoM and HoS issues). I particularly like the Weird War stories. Now are they EC good? No. 😂😢😮
@@silveragedc Excellent! Thanks so much!
I like the stories in the series twisted. It’s a little bit later in the era.
@@futurepastvintagecollectables Thanks a bunch! I'll check them out.
