    The breakdown you guys do in the middle of this video should be “required reading” for every comic collector at any level of experience. I had inferred most of what you lay out here through experience but if someone broke this down for me about 8years ago it would’ve saved me so much headache and minimized the amount of arguments I’ve had with fellow collectors 😆 you guys are adorable as a team

    Dave’s mention of Lemme and Motörhead made me chuckle. In the late 80s/early 90s (my memory is a little hazy), I went to an Alice Cooper concert. Motörhead was supposed to open but it turns out Lemme couldn’t make it through customs. Needless to say, there were numerous disappointed fans.
    No comic related comment here other than I enjoy your videos.

    Thanks for sharing! We looked into those and updated those sales. We actually have two new processes to correct these moving forward. One to quarantine bad sales and another to catch and update sales to the actual prices sold. These just went live this past week. So that will significantly help moving forward. Thanks for highlighting it! We always ask our users to let us know if something is wrong so we can fix it and prevent it from recurring in the future (we use exclusion terms to help filtering). Best!

    Personally, I hate that CovrPrice makes a distinction in their pricing data for newsstand vs direct. If the newsstand is truly a rare item, the CovrPrice value will be inaccurate especially for raw books. Newsstand is something in the eye of the beholder, and I would rather leave that value decision to the buyer and seller. One thing to note though, is that you can connect your newsstand copy to the direct market copy in CLZ if you want that to be the basis for your value.

    I never know whether to trust the covrprice sales figures for raw books. I mean, I've purchased plenty of raw Near Mint books on ebay that were VG at best due to flaws that didn't show in the scans--detached centerfolds, tanning, torn pages, even torn covers that did not appear torn in the scans. So, I just don't see how covrprice has reliable information to go on in order to document these sales.

    Thanks for sharing your pricing methods for comics. It's a difficult and time-consuming process and not for the "faint of heart" 😅. I believe pricing comics from among the other collectibles (e.g., stamps, coins, cards) is the most difficult, which is why I very rarely do it. Btw, I always seem to forget about your Mon/Fri sales living in the eastcoast. From what you just said, I'll put it on my phone calendar now! 😊

    Who’s slabbing that ASM puma book at anything less than 9.8. Even a 9.8 is worthless. But a 9.0/9.2. They’re better off cracking it & selling it raw and overgrade it like every dealer & hope to get $15-$20. Asking prices for eBay books never sell, they have zero interest in actually selling. You seem like decent people & your casts are appreciated.

    Covr Price has great theoretical tools. It's not updated regularly, despite what the company says. Last sale is a minor data point. The FMV tool would be fantastic if it was broken down like GPAnalysis: last sale, 30/60/90/year long splits.

    • @futurepastvintagecollectables

      @@futurepastvintagecollectables I agree, it would take a lot of monitoring and work to be flawless. As you documented in the video, it has a major flaw, which casts doubt on the strength of the data shared with collectors. I feel like eBay 90 day sales and GPAnalysis, as well as following Facebook listings gives pretty clear intel on what each book is worth. Thank you for your consistent and thoughtful content. It is appreciated.

I like to actually view the book in person so my buying has been primarily local. That being said I DO trust YOUR grades as everything I’ve purchased in you claim sales has really been great with the grades. I really do appreciate that… so thank you! Honesty retains customers.

    I love my CLZ apps, but CovrPrice pricing leaves something to be desired. It's borderline useless for Golden Age books and 90-95% of my collecting nowadays is Golden and Silver Age slabs. I pretty much use GPA prices 99% of the time for my pricing considerations. CovrPrice and GoCollect seem to be incomplete or inaccurate in comparison. I adjust my pricing for raws (which I don't buy often nowadays) based upon the slab prices I see. The other thing to consider is that once you get down to $10-$30 books, for the average collector, they may not care about the difference in price with a book selling for $15 or the same book selling for $20 if they want it just to have as opposed to for "investment" purposes. If I saw a $15 book selling for $20 and no other copies were around, I'd just buy it if I wanted it bad enough. Love your vids - keep up the good work. I love the "learn together" aspect of it rather than "I know what I'm talking about - you listen to me because I are expert!" attitudes I see often. lol.

    People always have a problem determining fair market value of comics. What happened to the good ol days of oversteet price guide? Even with recent scandals at CGS, the reholder scam from outsiders and insiders by CGS employee who stole/switch comics. So people have less confidence in cgs. So who do you trust?
    How do you determine fair market value ?

However, factors such as FOMO, price influencers, price fixing, and corruption within the slabbing market have significantly distorted the true values of comics. Unfortunately, this trend is likely to worsen as the economy further deteriorates.

    • @futurepastvintagecollectables
      @futurepastvintagecollectables  3 месяца назад

      It’s an indication, that’s all. Some sellers, like mycomicshop are pretty good at pricing. Some have prices that are beyond ridiculous, but experienced buyers know that. Sometimes the only copy with a price attached is a copy for sale on eBay, no previous sales, no GPa, no COVR price. It’s like detective work to get a clue, and that’s what it is.

    I’m 62 and neither of my sons are comic collectors though they do read a series here and there. What I’ve been trying to do is get all of my higher value books slabbed. Since slabbed books are so much better easier to price at least they will be able to sell them with knowledge. Now, I have over 16,000 books and only about 200 slabbed, but they represent 50% of my collection value.Hopefully, I will get enough done to get that slabbed number closer to 70% of value to make it easier on them and less likely they will be cheated.
