The Ryobi booth at NYCC just reminds me of walking into a dying mall and seeing all of the oddball shops that don't seem like they belong.

Even though I live on the East Coast, I just cannot afford to attend. New York comic con. $75 just to get in is just too much for my pocketbook. As such, I really appreciate these type of videos. It allows me to experience the show without attending. Thank you so much.

If I walked around a large comic book convention for 12 minutes and never saw a comic book I’d demand a refund lol. It’s crazy how much miscellaneous crap is there, even lawn mowers, wtf? 😂

Comics aren't as popular as they once were in NA. It's more Manga and Anime now and those have higher popularity which increases presences at these larger trade shows. NYCC, SDCC, the big ones aren't convention, they're industry shows now. If you're looking for a more pure comic centric convention, the smaller ones you go to are what's left of them, but one day even those will be taking in the larger portion of anime and manga. Being a new vendor and even a new business, I find the smaller shows to be more suited to comic vendors than these larger shows.

Hey Gary, I was only there on Saturday. Saw you and your Dad from afar. I was over at Bill Sienkiewicz booth. What you said about the con was EXACTLY what I told my pal Wayne who only went to a few other NYCC. I have been to all of them. But this year all I kept saying was “WHERE ARE ALL THE COMICS”? I had more comic vendors at my TERRIFICON. Artist Alley was well populated but there was just a weird vibe in the whole place. It wasnt fun to be there. Other than saying hello to friends, and pick up one pre-show art commission, it was kind of a meh experience. I mean the Crocs had one of the biggest booths! Crocs!!! It was more of an anime show on the main floor. I hope you did well. I think I will just stick with my con in CT going forward.

I saw a video of someone at Bangor, Maine Comic & Toy Con (which is as small as you would think but still took place on the floor of a decent-sized gym) and I think I saw two long boxes in the entire video. They had a booth of a guy who did wood carvings (with zero relation to anything there) and people selling light sabers. It was essentially a flea market that called itself a comic convention. At this point the term Comic Con is just a marketing device, but people know that it has little to do with actual comics 90% of the time. It's sad.

WOW I can't believe Ryobi has a booth at NYCC! There's something really disgusting about seeing that. And I actually do have a Ryobi mower and hedger trimmer in my garage right now. But I didn't buy them at a comics convention.

Very nice set-up. I respect your assessment of the layout from last year. I am more into comic book related things than anime. I do not collect any manga or watched any animated show BUT I DO like how they display their fandom/booths from the creators. I would LOVE it visit New York Comic Con... perhaps Thursday, Friday, and Saturday!!! I also love seeing cosplayers! So creative! Thanks for the video, Gary!

    Ryobi?!? WTF!!
Isn’t location on the floor a price question? Perhaps CGC just didn’t want to pony up the big dolluzz.
Are statue makers based more in Western states? I imagine shipping etc must get fairly pricey for the weight of all their displays so they just stick with SDCC?

I'm generally ambivalent about anime but let's be honest, it's what young people like. If the mainstream hadn't dropped the ball and decided to appeal to middle-aged collectors instead of kids, those displays would be Marvel and DC instead of foreign properties.

See, this is really why I'm starting not to like these larger conventions. It's ridiculous for me to pay $50+ just to walk in the door when I'm really only interested in about 10-15% of what's on the floor. I go to comic-cons to shop for comic books. A novel notion, I know, but c'mon! It's bad enough that there's SO MANY clothing vendors, Funko vendors, fan-art vendors, weapons vendors, etc. But Ryobi?? Seriously?? Cons have strayed too far from center and are charging too much for being so far from center.

Sad to see that there aren't as many comic vendors. I went to my local comic con last year and there was only one vendor selling comics. Everything else was anime, it feels like it's slowly becoming an anime convention.

Thanks for the inside scoop, again. Unfortunatley, every comic con vid I see, from RUclips in general, only those in the know (like a collector, for example) would recognize that a tables or setup cropping up on the screen "might" be a comic book dealer. Unlike the anime and other booths who have put up large, colorful props identifiable from miles away, the comic book seller are relatively low-key, visually speaking. Comic sellers at the cons should invest in cool props relating to the books they sell. Larg carbboard standalones or inflatables of key characters like Spidey, Hulk, Batman, Iron Man, etc., are important. That way people can experience the booth's presence at the Comic-Con EVEN if they don't actually stop there and check out that seller's books. For those casual pop culture fans just walking through, itching to have their interest piqued, it's a shame and a wasted opportunity to create memories associated with the comics that are supposed to be the main attraction at these Comic-Cons! They should at least TRY to match the visual energy of the other booths, which should increase flow of people checking out the cool comics. We know U.S. comic books remain popular, but the booths should at look like comic books are popular, you know? There's a disconnect there.
Dealers selling MCU books should agree before hand to buy some MCU props. Get that large HULK statue in there! Likewise for DC book sellers, etc. Even the general public generally knows beforehand which dealers will be there, so these booths should plan ahead. It's a no brainer, really, except for who retains the props between Cons!
There's the rub: no one booth wants to be the guy ponying up the cost of getting these great MCU or DC props, despite benefing all. Short-sighted, really.

Thanks for the video. Since I was a kid, I had a dream to come to the bigger conventions like NY comicon etc (I live on the other side of the planet) and 2024 is the year I was planning to go...but after seeing multiple videos of floor-walks over the last few years especially (including those of SDCC) Im sadly no longer interested in attending these big events. I'll find an actual comic show somewhere else instead. I have ZERO interest in trinkets, anime, non-comic industry professional artists, clothing and mystery boxes at a "comicon". Just my 2c

Shouldn’t be called comic con anymore, pop culture con is more appropriate. Comic book sellers are dwindling, yearly. I spoke to 2 dealers who said they may not be back again. Between the 4 hour loading dock wait and other hassles, they just don’t think it’s worth it anymore. Maybe that bodes well for your future sales 🤷🏻‍♂️. Also, saw a TikTok video of a dealer (not comics), who said 2 pallets of merchandise was missing! Unfortunately, the shows not the same for comic book enthusiasts

No slight at you but I can almost hear the dissapointment in your voice. I felt it to. I wont get into it but comis have been ruined. Dont worry because it wont take long for those who did it to move to manga/anime and ruin that next. Then hopefully comics can become great again
