The 4th to 5th gear shift is honestly the best part about doing pulls in this car. My adrenaline rush shoots through the roof when I hear it screaming at redline in 4th gear then bang it into 5th and it’s right back in the high rpm power band.
@@BuckeyeBallistics yep same I went 144 for about a mile straight and when I slowed back down to regular freeway speeds it felt like I was doing 40 mph
@david - As I said above, it's a limiter, I hit it. My stock 200hp 01 Contour SVT hit 143 on a 3 mile straight- THAT was drag limited, or "aero capped" as you call it. The WRX would do 150 stock no problem without the limiter in place...
Launching I do it mostly on 5500 - 6000 rpm and you need to hear the tires squeal and the rpm will be reaching 7000 in 1st , than drop a little on 5750rpm in 2nd. And to prevent clutch/cv joint damage make sure your tires are properly inflated just 1 psi above normal, and avoid heavy clutch dumping that can destroy release bearings and or gears.
On my old 05 I would launch at 4000, just about when the boost start, then riding the clutch a little bit (with a decent clutch it was perfect), the launches were incredibly fast.
Get a simple OFT stage 1 cobb tune and it not only gets rid of the rev hang, but its a faster and healthier tune as the car doesn't run lean as it does stock and you can launch better at a lower rpm
It's not, I already looked up the 0-60 & 1/4 mile times stock for stock; 300hp in a Camry is pretty impressive though. But that's why they're on here saying it's faster even though it isn't, because it has more power.
Nah it's good lol. I refuse to drop it any higher than 5000 or it would smoke it, and I will only do 5000 if I'm racing. My typical full throttle launches are dragging it from 3000, which takes forever to get going by comparison because I have almost no boost doing that. All the car magazines drop it at redline and that's the only reason they get 0-60 as fast as they do at under 5.5 sec. If you notice I only got there in about 6-6.2 seconds at best dropping it from 5ish. One of the magazines had to replace their clutch at only 20 some thousand miles on a long term test, and they admitted it was from all the redline full throttle launches. 5k launches here and there should let the clutch live to at least 100,000 easy...

There have been a lot of improvements to the transmissions since then. The current WRX transmission is probably stronger than the 03-04 STI trans. Depends on what you mean by better. Not sure what year you got, but a lot of those were plagued with electrical issues. But as I said, I do like the cars and they definataley shift a lot smoother.
I feel like after 30mph, a stock wrx isn't much quicker than my all oem/stock 2008 civic si sedan. Interesting. I'm still very much interested in the 2016+ wrx as a dd upgrade, however.
Looking at buying one of these. Kind of scared. Been hearing about head gasket problems and clutch/shifter bushing issues. You had any problems out of yours?
Yeah, really bad misfire at full throttle which cuts about 50% power that won't go away and throws no codes so I can't track it down. I replaced the plugs and it fixed it for about a month or so, then it started doing it again. So now I suspect coil packs, but 68k is really low miles for a coil pack to fail. Gonna try replacing the coil packs and see if that finally fixes it once and for all. Driver window motor acts up from time to time. As soon as window goes up, it immediately drops half way down again. I have to sit there and fiddle with it to get it to stay up. Only a couple vents are blowing cold and the others don't. Topped off ac and it went hot again after only a few days. Passenger speaker has been blown since we got it at only 57k miles. That's a lot of damn issues for a low mileage car that costs $20k and is only a few years old. My buddy has one also and he had different issues with his. Bad bearing at only 20k miles, and most recently something to do with some evap pump system or something for the gas tank with under 60k on it. He just traded it in on a 2020 WRX because he didn't want to deal with it anymore.
I have the exact same problem with my 16 wrx. I know you posted this reply 2 years ago but did you eventually solve it? I’ve dumped around 1k in possible solutions and nothing works. Thanks!
The clutch itself is $200-$300. To have a shop install it, labor and clutch included, I have seen quotes as high as $1400, or as low as $700. But I'm a mechanic so I'll most likely be doing the clutch myself when it needs it.
No. Why, did you? I just installed a new clutch and lightweight flywheel at around 95k, which is longer than most of them last (clutch) if the owner actually drives the thing like it was intended to be driven. Car and Driver only got 30k out of their clutch on their long term test lmao.
When I drive it I average 28-29mpg, cause I hit boost a lot. When she drives it she gets 30-32. Not sure about how many miles per tank, never drive it enough to pay attention.
i get 21mpg in the city with my 16 wrx manual tranny, my friend's sti gets about 18-19. not sure how u get 28-29. Im in Canada, i get a 500km from a 60l tank in the city.

^ these are the fastest times for STOCK 350z Hr’s from my350z.com and they ran these times consistently.... an Hr is only .2 seconds slower than a 370z in the 1/4 mile lol
No idea how you get it to go from 1st to 2nd that quickly without the revs bouncing all over the god damn place. I’m so disappointed with my 2017. Bout to get a Corolla hatch lol.
From the moment I first drove one of these, I never did care for the gearbox that much- very notchy and hard to shift lighting fast. But I have been drag racing manual trans cars for 15 years so I'm a little better at it than most.
@@BuckeyeBallistics that’s awesome man ! Buying a golf gti tomorrow cause fuck my wrx lol
I like the GTI's and the way they drive- just not as fast.
@@BuckeyeBallistics idk man. Just got the gti yesterday. Feels just as fast cause the shifts are quicker and smoother. Not to mention its just a better car all around. 100%
Depends on what you mean by better. Not sure what year you got, but a lot of those were plagued with electrical issues. But as I said, I do like the cars and they definataley shift a lot smoother.
Don't dumb the clutch like that with AWD lol you gonna snap something. Good video tho👌👌
U can hear the wind, car want to go flying ✈
What is a professional driver? Does it mean like it’s their job or?
I feel like after 30mph, a stock wrx isn't much quicker than my all oem/stock 2008 civic si sedan. Interesting. I'm still very much interested in the 2016+ wrx as a dd upgrade, however.
The clutch dumps in those cars must feel so abusive. The tires are definitely not the failure point.
how would this do against a V6 Chrysler 200?
So is mine broken lmfao. I feel like the boost doesn’t kick in till around 45-5k?
Do you have an STI? Because those are all top end.
F for the clutch
@@BuckeyeBallistics Wow! Thanks for the response. I guess I'll go with my other Choice, the honda civic si.
@@Kec7 You're welcome. Just take the money you save from buying the Si and modify it.
@@BuckeyeBallistics yes indeed!
I have the exact same problem with my 16 wrx. I know you posted this reply 2 years ago but did you eventually solve it? I’ve dumped around 1k in possible solutions and nothing works. Thanks!
Hmm - how much for a new clutch ?
The clutch itself is $200-$300. To have a shop install it, labor and clutch included, I have seen quotes as high as $1400, or as low as $700. But I'm a mechanic so I'll most likely be doing the clutch myself when it needs it.
For being stock with a exhaust that’s pretty fast.
First! "Holy Shit!" HAHAHAHA
Hey buddy. Yeah lol I didn't really expect it to spin all 4 tires and then slam my head in the seat so hard. That clutch grabs good!
Did you blow that transmission and clutch yet?
No. Why, did you? I just installed a new clutch and lightweight flywheel at around 95k, which is longer than most of them last (clutch) if the owner actually drives the thing like it was intended to be driven. Car and Driver only got 30k out of their clutch on their long term test lmao.
so was that 5.5 - 5.9?
Somewhere in there
What's your average mpg? And do you know how many miles you can manage on a tank? Really debating buying one of these next year
When I drive it I average 28-29mpg, cause I hit boost a lot. When she drives it she gets 30-32. Not sure about how many miles per tank, never drive it enough to pay attention.
Yeah lol, STI is like 25-26 highway max
i get 21mpg in the city with my 16 wrx manual tranny, my friend's sti gets about 18-19. not sure how u get 28-29. Im in Canada, i get a 500km from a 60l tank in the city.
Im only here cause I beat 2 2015 wrx's in my mk4 jetta and I had to see how fast these things are
I dust them all day in my 335i loll
and theyre the ones that always try to race me and act cocky when i got a stage 2 tune and hit 0-60 in 5.3
That's it? I hit 60 in 4.9 in my V6 Mustang...
@@BuckeyeBallistics wow 4.9 in a v6 mustang is pretty good, what the year and mods?
For the record it was sarcasm for TETRA flexing his BMW, allthough still an accurate and factual statement. I don't know if you caught the fact or not that this is my channel and video- so you can see everything I have done to the car on the channel. It's a 2014 and the videos can be easily accessed under the Mustang playlist on the channel.
Whixh trim model is this?
WRX Limited
Just as fast as my 2013 Lexus is 350!
But you can make a WRX much faster after mods. Easley. This is a stock Wrx which no true Subi driver would keep stock.
Mine 2019 Modded wrx is 373whp 367 tq. 0-60 of 3.62 sec. keep in mind this car is not just a drag racer but a street racer where it shins around sharp turns.
@@reflexboxer2ndlt807 yeah, mine's a luxury car whereas yours isn't.
I doubt your luxury car hits 0-60 in 5 secs. Because stock wrx hits 0-60 in 5.4. Stock is not my game. But it’s also not a drag racer either.
@@reflexboxer2ndlt807 I don't need that much speed. Last time I checked, it hit it 0-60 in 5.5 secs.
8.1 sec to 60 thats not too bad for a stock WRX
that was not 8.1
🤔why are people talking shit about the wrx but they still watch this video??
Exactly
@@BuckeyeBallistics just got my 2020 wrx and been loving it since day 1. I don't much about car but this car is something man.
how much psi ??
It's stock, so whatever stock is. I believe it's supposed to be like 17-18lbs.
mine only has 9 psi is something wrong right?
Yeah that's definately not right
I feel bad for the transmission
Is this modded? Seems like it picks up a bit quicker then others ive seen
Only mod is Invidia Q300 cat back exhaust, which is barely louder than stock- so it's still somewhat restrictive and not adding much power over the stock system, maybe an extra 5hp.
@@BuckeyeBallistics cat backs dont add hp. especially without a tune. just sound
Feel like your xrs would have gave this the business
Lol, ok.
I want to race a wrx from a dig in my IS350 so badly.
Same, I've never had the chance
Go to a track guys, they are usually there. Only problem is, they are usually higly modified and would smoke you guys lol. Ask me how I know...
STI or bust
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔔
Thats how you blow your engines kids 😂 great run though
I'd take it in my shitbox SRT4 :p Surprisingly I took a newer STI, we stayed neck and neck from 30-100. I thought these things were power heavy but it's really just the AWD that they boast, from a roll they are less impressive.
I'd take your SRT-4 in my V6 Mustang...
Guns&Cars lmao a v6 mustang. Nice chick car
Thanks baby 😘 srt-4 *NEON* ... Nice teen car. And if you were neck and neck with an STI from 30-100, then you couldn't get around my chick car...
@@BuckeyeBallistics Sorry but no, I looked and seen some videos of your V6 AUTOMATIC "muscle car" lmao, strap a turbo to that thing then MAYBE. You would be lucky to even keep up with a new Toyota Camry.
First of all, you're a trash talking idiot and you and I both know it- so we both know now matter what I say, you're still going to run your little mouth. With that being said, I haven't posted a pull video in a while, and have done several performance mods since. So as I said, if you couldn't even get around an STI between 30-100, then you couldn't get around my automatic chick car, because it's quicker than an STI with it's current setup. Secondly, I have owned numerous 5 and 6 speed manual cars, including a 6 speed Z28. I'm entitled to own an automatic if I want, and I could out shift your wannabe ass any day. And speaking what I'm entitled to, I'm entitled to end this conversation, which just happened. Have fun in your $4000 Dodge Neon loser...
Alot slower then expected, no wonder my GLI blows the doors off these. Even stage 1 or 2.
If only he hit 130
I’m not saying it’s slow but it doesn’t seem that fast either
It runs 14.2 in the 1/4 mile, so it is what it is. It's not the STI, it's just the regular 268hp WRX. Honestly for only 268hp, 14.2 is pretty good. Hopefully we'll actually be modifying it this year. New clutch and tune/intake are planned at a minumum...
@@BuckeyeBallistics Yea 268hp is not bad, i know there’s a lot of hype around these wrxs, they seem to have a large following. I remember reading it was the most ticketed car in America, which I believe cause every time I see a wrx, it’s being driven like a maniac. I was just curious to see how fast these are. I’m more of a coupe guy myself anyhow.
Same. Mustang here, and Camaros before that. The WRX isn't mine lol.
Meh tbh feel like my mk4 gti would smoke it would be a good run
The R type yeah, or a *modded* GTI. It's not super fast, they only run 14.2 stock in the 1/4 mile. But it would smoke a stock GTI...
It's fast but my comp g gtp is just as fast and almost 10 years older lol
Those are rare now, better hang on to it.
First run was way better
This is why you never buy a used STI
Except it's not an STI lmao. No wonder people keep saying it's not that fast- why you all think it's an STI? Is there an optical illusion in the title?
Old e34 goes better
trade it for a bimmer in-line 6
I don't dress preppy enough for that 😅
Guns&Cars 🤣touche
It's kinda slow
This thing is very slow I feel sorry for whoever bought this thing
Well it runs just as fast as it should, so I wouldn't feel sorry for anyone who got exactly what they paid for- that's stupid...
8 seconds 60-100
My veloster is faster lol
Modified no doubt, otherwise not even close. My Rio has the same engine, minus the turbo...
@@BuckeyeBallistics they are not the same engine lol. They are very different. But yea my veloster has some basic boltons and a jb4 tune. I have a video of it on here
They are both the Gamma 1.6 GDI. Obviously the internals are different in the boosted car to handle boost, and the intake is slightly different and such, but they are the same block and most likely same bore and stroke. I was basically just saying, I am familiar with the cars, even own one with the 1.6 Gamma minus turbo. It was nothing to discredit you Veloster or anything to get your panties in a bunch about...
@@BuckeyeBallistics I'm not offended lol.
They are very different though. Its like saying an na imprezza ej20 is the same as a wrx. Its more than just a turbo that's different lol. Every thing is all well in good. No malice was intended in my reply.
Veloster wins on the roll, WRX wins on the dig.
My camry i4 is faster lmao
Surprised how slow this is. My forester xt stage 2 is faster. 5 speed :)
Sursprised? A stage 2 XT has about 15-20 more HP than this car and is about 100lbs lighter- I'm not surprised at all.
Stop saying "stage 2" nobody uses that anymore. And OP's car is nearly bone stock.
@@artilleryisbetter true but it's slow. It has 305hp stock. You're also paying an arm and leg to be that slow.
Um, it's 268hp stock. The STI is 305, which this is not. Know what you're talking about next time...
@@BuckeyeBallistics actually, the WRX has a faster 0-60 time. Yes it was my mistake and I knew the specs. Either way, both are still slow.
