Old video I know but no average price in video or description
In regards to olive green: Might be a coincidence, but if you look at planes or space vehicles during construction, the unpainted parts often have a similar shade of green. Might have been intentional, but...
I've heard somebody else mention that so it might be true! I'm clueless ahah :P
Zinc chromate primer. Great catch skylineGTRR34Freak
they are trying to get rid of the cheapest granules they could get. its nothing but a financial thing. no adult wants this colors plague in a collectors set.
@@henningsol5180 oh don't get me wrong, I absolutely hate the abundance of weird colors in sets, biggest offenders being the Star Destroyer and Mickey Mouse Steamboat imo. Still, in this case it's actually at least realistic.
@@henningsol5180
other collector sets have rainbow structures
5:45 I love the olive green color chosen, I know it's not really going to be seen, but the super structure of the space shuttle was actually this color of olive green, you can see it in the landing gear, which I've personally seen on the space shuttle Enterprise, It''s a very small detail but something I really like about this set!
As I read more and more comments saying that, it might have been a consideration by the designer and not necessarily because he likes the color ahah! My bad!
To add to your comment, that common green you see in aerospace applications is a zinc chromate primer applied before final paint. Some interior spaces that don't receive additional paint are left in that green for corrosion protection.
If you ever cross over into the scale modeling side of youtube, you'll see how much the aircraft and aerospace modelers love that color.
@@otm646 As an aircraft mechanic, i can confirm this. And i do think it's done intentially. Anyways my spaceshuttle arrived today so ill be starting tomorrow with the build. Yeah a bit late to watch a review... :p
Did you see the space shuttle in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum?
The olive green and cyan are realistic to the actual build.
That drab green and brown are pretty common for aircraft builds in real life!
Yep! The yellowish green color of the zinc chromate primer is found on the internal structure of the orbiter as well as most aircraft.
Usually I'm pretty sceptic about space sets, but damn, a spot on my shelf is already reserved!
Well worth the space I'd say!
@@TiagoCatarino haha exactly!
All of the recent NASA sets have been spectacular.
eh, way too many stickers for the price. Also, considering the size of the Saturn V, adding boosters etc. to this set would've been no problem
The olive green colour was chosen, according to the designer, because olive green was the colour of the interior components under the white surfaces on the real shuttle
you can rotate Hubble 45 degrees longitudinally so the 4 closed appendages clear the sides of the walls, there are two indentations you build near the back at the ground so it fits snuggly there, that is part of the concept of the model since Hubble was known to be specifically designed to fit the payload of the Space Shuttle
Wow man, really good review. Very well edited and perfectly summarized. I agree with the nose problem, but I have to say l like the technique used, specially the dark grey pins for the RCS thrusters.
Henlo how u doing
Thanks!! It took me quite a while to figure out how to do a review ahah But I think I have something here :) It has amazing details overall indeed, you need to get it!!
@hachiroku24 The nose aside, do you like how they used the Cockpit window and roof pieces? I can't get my head around the buldge and exessive "pristine roundedness", especially the print (yay its a print). The Shape and position of the windows have always been one of the most iconic features of the shuttle. I've been a fan of yours for your clever usage of pieces (GlaDOS, Tiefighter etc.) so if anyone is gonna manage a more authentic brickbuilt Its gonna be you! :)
@@cotoaster4081 Thank you! I like the new roof pieces. Not a big fan of the cockpit window because I've preferred something more brick-built, but it looks ok in this scale.
The nose is not perfect but honestly I am not sure how they could have made it better. Really tough spot and I think they likely made it as best they could without increasing the scale of the design or making a lot of custom expensive pieces. Will be interesting if some fans moc up a better solution. I've not been this excited for a set since the Saturn V came out...
*I NEED IIIIIIT* I already have the lunar lander, and now this! I'm going to have this in 3 months
I would hurry! I truly believe it will be out of stock really fast!!
@@TiagoCatarino yeah but I earn 80€ per month, so I need 3 to buy :(
@@pseudo4453 You can do it :) Its worth it!
Cool
@@TiagoCatarino I already bought one , because im scared that its going to be sold out quick
Extra stickers to allow you to build other shuttles and from different eras within the program would have been nice.
Really nice set. Now someone must build the 747-100 to carry Discovery.
Agreed! Although... it may have to occupy my kitchen table at that scale lolol.
The olive green is a similar color to the Zinc Chromate primer that is usually applied to an airframe, So my guess is that is what they are trying to replicate.
they are trying to get rid of the cheapest granules they could get. its nothing but a financial thing. no adult wants this colors plague in a collectors set.
@@henningsol5180 but u dont even see it though
..but if you like to build something else, you have colours rarely anyone can use or has to hide them as well. It is a plague, a long time now. Lego has abandoned their idea of being creative. ..or you would have to see the world in shades of black and white.
Thats exactly what they r doin the designer said it himself
@@henningsol5180 dude chill
Just finished building it. Lego needs to keep making more space sets!
I’m so glad LEGO has released this model having missed out on the creator expert original several years ago. It looks amazing and I’ll gladly accept the challenge of applying all those shiny reflective stickers which do appear to add to the realism of this model. As for all those metallic silver parts and olive green - yes please!
A fitting tribute to the nostalgia of the spaceshuttles. The shuttle appeared to show promise to make space travel less expensive and more routine, although launch costs of the space shuttles never dipped below $23,000 per kilogram and it proved more dangerous than previous rockets, there's just something about spaceshuttles that evokes a feeling of the " golden age " of space exploration.
The LEGO set itself appears of good quality.
i bought this set for myself as a Xmas present, wow, its awesome, thinking of buying another one for my grandson. However, having said that the space shuttle did prompt me to by the ISS, the lunar lander and the V saturn rocket. thank you for the video,

Where do you recommend i should get it
The nose was my favourite part lol
Great review, I got the set a week ago, started to build it in my office, completed it at home the same night. Great build, and it looks amazing!! And I love how you can display it in different ways. Highly recommended!
I work on the aerospace manufacturing industry and the olive green color is the color of the primer that Boeing uses for structural elements that are not exposed
The olive green and cyan are realistic to the actual build.
That drab green and brown are pretty common for aircraft builds in real life!
It’s just missing the gold around the human occupancy cabin
I got this set for christmas. I absolutely love it and it’s really pretty sitting as a decoration. It was easily one of the most enjoyable lego sets to build.
This was a fantastic review. You touched on all the stuff I wanted to hear, including how to display it.
Got this for Christmas, building it now and enjoying the experience.
I just finished the build, and the model is one of my all time favorites - big improvement over the older one.
I bought the Saturn V last year, the Lunar Lander in February, and now I will get this!! My kids and I have really bonded with these NASA LEGOs!!! They’re also great conversation starters and look awesome in our living room display cabinet...
the shuttle main engines were called the RS-25, also called the SSME (Space Shuttle Main Engine), the manoeuvring engines were AJ-10s, the system was called the OMS (Orbital Manoeuvring System)
I just love Space Sets, i desperatly wanted a Space Shuttle so I bought the Creater one a year ago, now i'm so hyped they released a real one and it even seems very nice!
The olive green as he says, is in recognition of the shuttle craft being assembled with a green coloured framework.
Great review. The overall sculpting is pretty good. This is the first Lego shuttle that captures the long taper of the nose, and the two "shoulders" on either side of the flight deck. One disappointment to me is I would rather have had landing gear doors than automatic gear deployment. Still looks like a must-buy.
This is one bad ass shuttle. Cant wait to get it!
I'm very excited about this set.
I am SOOOO excited to get this. I got back in to Lego about a year ago, and so far have built the Lunar Lander, the ISS, and the Saturn V (my favorite). I can't WAIT to add this to my collection!!
Considering those purchases, you really need this one then ahah! Have fun :)
Thank you so much Tiago. I wasn’t Sure if I wanted it but you totally sold me on it!!
Glad I could help! It's SOOO good :)
I bought this set for my fiancé for Christmas. I'm super hyped to see him open it!
Great review
Really enjoyed this review! the functions are so well ingrained into the build. Just curious what color will you choose for the hidden parts inside the build? (Olive green in the case of this build)
As in replacing them to get the olive green out? :P
Oh that would make more sense. Teal of course!!
@@TiagoCatarino teal is good :D
Fun tidbit of info: not only is olive green the architect's favorite color, that also happens to be (close to) the yellowish green color of the zinc chromate primer found on the internal structure of the orbiter as well as most aircraft.
Just caught this video, so it may have been mentioned before - the gear operation is actually realistic. The gear are lowered just before landing (as in less than 1000 feet/330 m above ground; ref. 'The Dream is Alive' IMAX) and are manually raised in the OPF after landing while the shuttle is on jack stands.
I think this is a beautiful set. Looking forward to building it myself soon. Going to be a nice display piece.
I will start saving for this
i went to the museum and saw that thing in about 2015, it was really cool. this looks like a really nice set, i may consider buying it.
2021 is 4 months and you already called the best Lego set
This is probably one of my top 3 fun builds so far even though it took me a full weekend to build it
I really like the use of chapters feature Tiago. Keep up the content
Might help people to skip the "boring" parts :) Thank you!!
Can't wait to get this set! Oh wait, I am waiting now...
The more I look at it, the more I like! On my wanted list but will purchase it as soon as I can, for nostalgia purposes, reminds of my Lego space explorations. I'll ignore the stickers and most likely, will customize it a little... Great review Tiago, more to come hopefully!
I hope so too! It's been fun doing a few reviews actually!
Thus set is AMAZING! For me it a must buy. Thanks for the early look and well done Lego!
Hope you enjoy it! And thanks :)
I know I’m late to the video but for most aircraft the interior of wings and stuff (areas that passengers cannot see) it is a form of olive green that helps mechanics see if there is cracks. It is possible that the olive green parts inside the shuttle are a reference to that.
Thank you for the great review, can't wait to get my hands on this beauty! Definitely one of the highlights of 2021 so far :)
Interesting insight with the odd colors inside the set. I had a theory that designers are encouraged to use pieces in specific colors in non-visible places to support a more optimal manufacturing process, but apparently it isn't the case then?
About the "gold bars", they are the solar panels in storage position. They can be deployed and retracted around a central drum like a roller-blind :)
I got that after watching the designer video! At the time of the recording I really had no idea what the rods were!
Yeah, as for the odd colors it really is to help people avoid building errors! Some designers use the chance to include cool colors for you all! I still remember dearly when I did the Ship In a Bottle and tried to use as much teal as I could inside the build since it was a fairly recent color!
Really cool review from the perspective of a former LEGO Designer! Since you're familiar with the design process, it's interesting hearing your comments of the design as well as the critique of what improvements can be made.
Glad you liked it! More to come!
I got it, and having fun with the build. It’s gonna take a while.
Great video!
Just bought one and looking forward to building it.
oh my it has slot of features I am totally getting it
Wow! Amazing LEGO set! 👍
For sure!!
The Space Shuttle is incredible! Was not expecting it to be this great!
Right? It really is amazing, am I'm super glad I got the early copy from LEGO
@@TiagoCatarino It’s definitely high up on my wanted list! btw are you an RLFM?
Wow, great review! You should do reviews more often!
Thanks! I might do!
Thanks for the review Tiago, I'm sooo happy to see your channel has grown so much since its inception. I also remember when I was talking to you about the other LEGO designers that I've knew and admired many years ago before becoming designs themselves at TLG like Marcos Bessa and such, and you were trying hard to reach the 100k subscription mark. Congrats and very well deserved, your channel is pure quality and class. Bravo. :-)
BTW are the "electronic panel" cheese wedges in this model printed or have stickers on them?
Thank you for the kind words man, really appreciated!
The electronics are all printed!!
@@TiagoCatarino Thank you for the reply and the answer. Keep up the great work.
GIMMEEE THIS SET!
Looks so tasty to build. Can't wait for it to come out.
It's a GREAT build! Even the mirrored parts are not boring at all to build!
Lego hit a home run with this set.
I love the design of the Lego
I'll be eyeing the lego online shop I usually order from to get my hands on this one for sure.
I just recently got the ISS and LOVE IT! I need this along with the lunar lander and Saturn V. I've had the Curiosity Mars Rover for a few years and I'm crazy about these newer NASA sets!
Awesome! It´s already on my purchase list! And great review Catarino! :D
Awesome! Thank you! You won't regret once you get it! Maybe some ideas and techniques to steal for your planes ;)
Great Video, Tiago! Your a real inspiration!
I appreciate that, thanks :)
@@TiagoCatarino No problem, Tiago!
The landing gear on the Discovery could open and close on its own... also olive green is the color of many unpainted aircraft parts I believe it acts a primer before the final paint coat.
I just got this set and just finished from 6 hours of building. And those 6 hours were sooo worth it
One of the best sets lego has produced
Nothing is perfect in Lego form but for being a lego orbiter, this is perfect.
Thank you Tiago. Cannot wait to get mine.
Do it! It's well worth it despite the little things!
It's not the Technic remake I wanted you guys to do with motors like the one from my childhood days though :P
This is So Cool!
My girlfriend got me this for my bday and I'm excited to build it! She also got me the lunar lander over xmas. I grew up on LEGO and I am just obsessed with these sets, I'm in my 30's now and I love that they are making these adult-themed sets that are essentially scale-models. I'm a space freak as well, so to have all these amazing space sets is just great. I eventually would like to get the Saturn V and ISS as well. It blows my mind how detailed these sets are!
Super tiago very nice set and how you explaine the set was also nice 👍😀👌
Thank you 😀 I might do more reviews in the future :)
Thanks for the review! This set is still available in the UK btw, however the grand piano has sold out immediately ONCE AGAIN! Bah! probably because of the double vip point offer at the moment but surprised this set is still in stock.
Take off the golden rods on the side. And remove the 2 mounting forks and doors will close fine. So glad it came with a Hubble Telescope. It's January 2022. Just bought my today. Start building it next week hopefully
Did you?
@@veikkakarvonen831 not yet
@@veikkakarvonen831 it's February 13th. I justed started building mind. I'm done with the bottom half so far. Going to build the Hubble last
love the kit building it at the moment ,as you said with the bay doors the stickers were a pain to do but look great when done, lego could have printed the discovery tiles i think instead of using stickers .Apart from the stickers its a very detailed kit .Great video👍
Good lego review ❤️❤️
The Hubble will fit inside the bay with the (folded) solar panels attached. The model needs to be rotated by ~22° to be able to fit.
bellissimo questo set
With an extra gray 1x2 plate w/horizontal clip and a couple extra pieces from the set you can make a very realistic Canadarm spacewalk aparatus to service the Hubble with a minifig (I know it's not the Endevour)
The space shuttle looks really nice but I think I If It was mini figure scale it might be better but I think for just a display piece it looks amazing
But at minifigure scale it would be HUGE!!!
@@TiagoCatarino it would be pretty big but it would be pretty awesome😎
I GOT THIS FOR CHRISTMAS LAST YEAR :D I LOVED IT SO MUCH!!
That last comment is interesting. I barely managed to get my hands on the Titanic - which has been almost continuously sold out since pre-sale - but had no problem getting my hands on the shuttle a few days after it came out...
The olive green color in the set is most likely resembles the frame of the aircraft , in a aircraft the frame is painted green so that if damage occurs to the aircraft the green paint shows and it helps identify where the damage occurred
I really like this set
What Lego needs to do is make an 18+ similar style of set to this but for a Boeing 747, that would be a long needed and awesome set
@Tiago, it is amazing to see how you gain maturity from this review to the Concorde. What a journey within two years !
Just bought it for my anniversary. Wife bought her own gift. Shoes I think. I win 💪
2:55 The Space Shuttles Gear couldnt be retracted. If it was deployed it stayed out, until it was in the Space Plane Hangar.
Wow it looks great. I don't mind how the nose looks. I enjoyed listening to your insight and opinions on the set. I hope you do more reviews!
Thank you so much! I think I will! :)
I am so considering this. I've not purchased or built a new lego set in almost 6 years, but this one I really really am considering
If that's the case you will not regret it! It is a wonderful set!
@@TiagoCatarino well I just bought it so I'll build it in 4 months when I get home!
I really hope those JWST Lego ideas get approved. It would be sooooo cool
I love space Lego sets
I definitely agree with the nose sticking too far out it still looks nice though!
Great review. The functionality being hidden into the design is very clever indeed!
It really is!
I still have my 8480, which in my opinion is still one of the nicest sets ever made
Awesome Review!
Thank you! Would you like to see more on the channel?!
Thanks for the really good review! I’m definitely buying this as soon as it comes out, the stickers aren’t enough to ruin it for me!
This is actually coming out on my birthday! Woho!!
Is that a joke? I'm sure you must be tired of these type of jokes sorry :P
