With raisins it feels like people either love em or hate em; very few who say, "doesn't matter". Personally I don't like them in any baked goods and would never just eat some raisins but I always liked Raisin Bran cereal. Go figure

Thank you for making this video. I made this cake for my husband's birthday this week. Thanks to you, it turned out AMAZING. He asked for "interruptions" so I added toasted walnuts to the batter, along with some soaked and drained golden raisins and currants. I also added a tsp of lemon juice to the cream cheese frosting along with one of vanilla and vanilla bean scrapings. It was so rich and moist it made us need a moment with our food. It was the second time in my life I'd ever made a real cake. Thank you again!!💕
I also grew up with carrot cake that had pineapple in it. Ppl just don’t know what they’re missing. It’s awesome! Just add in drained crushed pineapple when you add in the carrots, simple. Ohhh, turns up the volume and earns your loyalty, in just one taste. ⚡️💖⚡️

I have never enjoyed carrot cake until I made this for my husband’s birthday day. It was delicious. Thank you. By the way, cardamum is expensive 😩 but it made all the difference.
So my sister and I were making this when we realized that the written recipe completely contradicts with the video. The video uses more spices, sour cream and an extra egg that was never mentioned in the written one. The order also slightly differs between the two. When looking at the written recipe earlier, we didn’t buy sour cream because it wasn’t listed and got slightly confused. We substituted a couple of things and followed the video. Our cake still turned out delicious, but a clarification would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I made this cake for my birthday and it was amazing. Absolutely will only be using this recipe going forward! I've never weighed my ingredients before, but I found that it was much more accurate than what it would've been if I had just measured the way I normally do. Highly recommend this recipe!!
I made this and it was incredible! I even made a big mistake and it’s still so good (I accidentally put the flour in with the wet ingredients). I halved the powdered sugar and doubled the vanilla for the icing! Highly recommend this ratio- just put the cake in the fridge if the icing is too droopy
I made this for my MIL for her birthday and she (and everyone) loved it. Very great recipe. I ended up doing a two layered cake though, and froze the third layer. Have me some extra breathing room on the cream cheese frosting (which was great). Thanks John for the great recipe!

I grew up in rural central Virginia, and we added pineapple and some people also added raisins, and one baker added rum soaked raisins. During the pandemic, I watched a British competition between professional bakeries, divided by location. The small bakery run by a sister and brother ended up beating all the rest, with their carrot cake, to which they added 1/3rd sweet potato and 2/,3rds carrot. Omg ! I made it at home, adding pineapple and toasted walnuts, no raisins. Drunk or otherwise. It was absolutely delicious, so then I experimented using parsnips and fresh coconut. Which I shredded in food processor and put the coconut in a dish towel to squeeze out excess water, which I then used the coconut milk in a tres Leche cake which I added the other half of fresh coconut meat. Honestly, they were absolutely delicious cakes. My friend was too chicken to try to make pastry cream, so I told her to get a tub of vanilla pudding and canned coconut milk and package of flaked. With a white box cake mix. She told me that night her husband took out the trash without being asked !!!! I love your channel, because you take the mystery out of baking and cooking, with clear steps and instructions. Except ... sometimes I think it's a bit mean to enjoy your taste tests so much ;). I always add pineapple and raisins to my carrot cake, which is a very similar recipe to yours, but I like the idea of the apple sauce instead of the pineapple, so am definitely going to try yours. I also love the way you decorated it, it is so cute!

Hi John. The ingredients in this video is different from the ingredients listed in the website. Sour cream isn't mentioned in the website. And apple sauce is 3/4th cup in the website and not 1/2 cup as mentioned in this video

Your childhood version is the way I make it. My recipe from The Texas Hill Country cookbook is a "14 Carat Cake", calling for pineapple, nuts and raisins. I used gold raisins and it was the BEST selling dessert at my restaurant. :)

I just wanted to say that I made this carrot cake today (the updated version on the website and I didn’t make the frosting) and it turned out AMAZING! It wasn’t too oily, the pecans added textural integrity and the overall flavour and balance it great.

Hey John!! Your recipes are always so incredible and can’t thank you enough. I never ever comment but felt this one was important. I think there may be a typo in your written version of this recipe haha It says 330g of white sugar AND 330g of brown sugar so it’s double the sugar. I kept wondering why my cake came out sunk and caramelized and I realized that might be it. In this video it’s 335g of white sugar only I followed this recipe before but from this video (not the written) and it turned out perfect! Anyways just wanted to bring it to your attention! Keep being your awesome self and I always love your videos and recipes 😊
When I realized it had that much sugar I immediately though something was wrong, so I finished watching the video and it seems like the recipes are very different.
Use either white or the brown sugar and you will be fine. Don't use both because it is too much. Also the eggs are 3 in the video but 4 in the recipe. Very confusing.@@ursularuiz3132
Those Korean butter cream flowers....most are made with bean paste! I’ve never tried it, but I can’t imagine that they’d taste as good as they look! 😳😳😳
Oh Cliff actually, red bean paste (which is probably what your referring too) is actually very sweet and tasty and part of many korean desserts. It would still taste good lol
@@teacuups7094 Actually, I was referring to white bean paste. You can use white kidney beans or great white northern beans. I know red beans are used in baked sweets though, but I've never tried either.
Anyone curious I made the one on here not the one on the blog and it was really good everyone said it was the best carrot cake ever! Only thing I changed was added 1/2 cup of brown sugar extra to the batter. My carrots were very bitter. Also more cinnamon 🥰🥰

I used your modified carrot cake recipe for my FIL's 90th birthday celebration in August. It was a big hit. It's so moist and flavorful. Carrot cake is his favorite so I made one just for him and another for guests. Three people asked if I'd make one for them.

So my sister and I were making this when we realized that the written recipe completely contradicts with the video. The video uses more spices, sour cream and an extra egg that was never mentioned in the written one. The order also slightly differs between the two. When looking at the written recipe earlier, we didn’t buy sour cream because it wasn’t listed and got slightly confused. We substituted a couple of things and followed the video. Our cake still turned out delicious, but a clarification would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I made this cake for my birthday and it was amazing. Absolutely will only be using this recipe going forward! I've never weighed my ingredients before, but I found that it was much more accurate than what it would've been if I had just measured the way I normally do. Highly recommend this recipe!!

I made this and it was incredible! I even made a big mistake and it’s still so good (I accidentally put the flour in with the wet ingredients).
I halved the powdered sugar and doubled the vanilla for the icing! Highly recommend this ratio- just put the cake in the fridge if the icing is too droopy
I prefer walnuts and I always put the carrots into the flour it helps them stay even though out the cake mixture. Love your channel,
I made this for my MIL for her birthday and she (and everyone) loved it. Very great recipe. I ended up doing a two layered cake though, and froze the third layer. Have me some extra breathing room on the cream cheese frosting (which was great). Thanks John for the great recipe!

I grew up in rural central Virginia, and we added pineapple and some people also added raisins, and one baker added rum soaked raisins. During the pandemic, I watched a British competition between professional bakeries, divided by location. The small bakery run by a sister and brother ended up beating all the rest, with their carrot cake, to which they added 1/3rd sweet potato and 2/,3rds carrot. Omg ! I made it at home, adding pineapple and toasted walnuts, no raisins. Drunk or otherwise. It was absolutely delicious, so then I experimented using parsnips and fresh coconut. Which I shredded in food processor and put the coconut in a dish towel to squeeze out excess water, which I then used the coconut milk in a tres Leche cake which I added the other half of fresh coconut meat. Honestly, they were absolutely delicious cakes. My friend was too chicken to try to make pastry cream, so I told her to get a tub of vanilla pudding and canned coconut milk and package of flaked. With a white box cake mix. She told me that night her husband took out the trash without being asked !!!! I love your channel, because you take the mystery out of baking and cooking, with clear steps and instructions. Except ... sometimes I think it's a bit mean to enjoy your taste tests so much ;). I always add pineapple and raisins to my carrot cake, which is a very similar recipe to yours, but I like the idea of the apple sauce instead of the pineapple, so am definitely going to try yours. I also love the way you decorated it, it is so cute!

Hi John. The ingredients in this video is different from the ingredients listed in the website. Sour cream isn't mentioned in the website. And apple sauce is 3/4th cup in the website and not 1/2 cup as mentioned in this video

Your childhood version is the way I make it. My recipe from The Texas Hill Country cookbook is a "14 Carat Cake", calling for pineapple, nuts and raisins. I used gold raisins and it was the BEST selling dessert at my restaurant. :)

I just wanted to say that I made this carrot cake today (the updated version on the website and I didn’t make the frosting) and it turned out AMAZING! It wasn’t too oily, the pecans added textural integrity and the overall flavour and balance it great.

@@ivetterivera7212 yes. I added a bit less sugar than the recipe and it turned out good, even without the frosting and with less sugar it was sweet enough.

It says 330g of white sugar AND 330g of brown sugar so it’s double the sugar. I kept wondering why my cake came out sunk and caramelized and I realized that might be it. In this video it’s 335g of white sugar only

When I realized it had that much sugar I immediately though something was wrong, so I finished watching the video and it seems like the recipes are very different.
Use either white or the brown sugar and you will be fine. Don't use both because it is too much. Also the eggs are 3 in the video but 4 in the recipe. Very confusing.@@ursularuiz3132

Oh Cliff actually, red bean paste (which is probably what your referring too) is actually very sweet and tasty and part of many korean desserts. It would still taste good lol
@@teacuups7094 Actually, I was referring to white bean paste. You can use white kidney beans or great white northern beans. I know red beans are used in baked sweets though, but I've never tried either.

Anyone curious I made the one on here not the one on the blog and it was really good everyone said it was the best carrot cake ever! Only thing I changed was added 1/2 cup of brown sugar extra to the batter. My carrots were very bitter. Also more cinnamon 🥰🥰

I came back to comment. The cake was so good! 😮💨 I’ve experienced flavors that I have never had in my mouth. Sadly I did not have apple sauce or sour cream or yogurt so I did it with out and it. And I grated one pealed apple instead of apple sauce and it gave it a little extra crunch. 😍
