Im an islander, and in the 90s, i would see this beautiful black man in my community, im in high school and he walked EVERYWHERE, I never picked up the courage to say hi, but what i did do was just stare at him like i was in love😂😂he stood in front of me at the supermarket, and this time it was many years after, i had 2 kids, he looked back and i froze, he giggled cos my daughter giggled, i blushed so bad then he says Hi and im frozen, cant speak waiting for me to cry cos he saw me😂😂. i loved looking at him cos i barely saw any black people❤❤❤
@@ourszn no problem, i love this country and I love all my people living in nz no matter what country or religion💙💯NZ is a diverse country, it's a blessing to have you here. Hope you end up loving this country as much as me lol
As a kiwi, when i went to england in 1987 i found myself staring like a starstruck gorm at the beautiful black women. I found you ladies so beautiful ( not your men in the same way) especially compared to the English. You were exotic blooms to a kiwi. We had hardly any black people in NZ back then. Plenty of Maori and Polynesians but not African. 6:27
Let's just say we're curious/nosey especially when there's a new person in town and you're from overseas. Don't worry too much, cos we get over it/move on/leave you alone - it surprises us/kiwis. In saying all this....Welcome to NZ!!!!! Enjoy your stay. Hopefully, you'll get used to Kiwi Life and able to adjust to changes here. Peace.
I love the video. I am an African American woman living in America. This helps me alot. Because my main concern is safety. I think you speak English very well. I understood everything you said even without having the words on the screen. I hope to see more videos from you on your life in New Zealand.
You are so beautiful and I love your aura ✨ I enjoyed your video, very helpful tips. I’m planning to move to NZ after I finish school next year from Seattle, WA.
Kia ora, you stay here with us Māori, we will take care of you and your family. You come to the marae, marry a Māori boy 😄. We braid your hair for free. If we get cheeky to you it means we’ve accepted you into our whānau (family)
You'll be right miss, From Joburg to where you are is a big jump, all the best to you, welcome, and you can't get further from the coast, wait till summer and go find a beach.
omg girl I thought you were a teenager too! Subscribed :) I'm also moving to NZ too, I can't do my own braids so I'm dreading the prices as my mum or sister usually do my hair
It is tough moving abroad. And takes time (a lot) to merge into the way of live in your new home. But NZ will be welcoming. The problem is - a lot of immigrants will find that while Kiwi's are friendly, that is not the same as 'being good at being friends'. Even Kiwi's moving to a new city within the country will struggle to fit in and find a good friendship circle. Another aspect of this is a peculiar Kiwi aspect to friendship - that friendships and gatherings are on a clock, you are welcome to visit... but after say 1 hour... OK time to leave, your time is up. That can be very weird for many people when they run into it... you just have to accept that that is a cultural quirk that just is... it doesn't mean anything negative about you or anything. It is an aspect of a rather introverted/homebody national character. Also, the pace of life is much slower, so there is that too. But don't let me put you off by reciting a long list of hurdles... the biggest factor in all this, is your own ability to be outgoing and positive. That makes a huge difference, and kiwis will really warm to you if you are chatty, friendly and open.
thanks for that heads up😂 Yes, i noticed that the pace is slow and I actually prefer it like that. I’ve been struggling with being outgoing with other people but I’ll definitely try! Thank you so much❤️
I hope it begins to feel like home for you. I guess it will take awhile to adjust, but you have lovely energy and once you are in groups or meeting lots of people at work, you'll have no trouble making more friends 😊 As a white kiwi lady, i too am fascinated by the african curls, but wouldnt ask to touch. I think it would only have to happen a couple of times for me to be creeped out by it. Best wishes ❤
I'm blonde and when I went to Fiji as a 17yr old I had so many people touching my hair so I know. Also you live in the wrong place for weather and social life. In Christchurch it is cold in winter but sunny and the sun doesn't burn like in summer. You will enjoy an evangelical church like New Life in Auckland. This is a nice challenge for you. This is different from sth Africa
It's because you are beautiful and interesting and you are someone people want to get to know. Kiwis are a friendly bunch, as you've probably discovered by now. I hope you are feeling more settled in now. If you go to Auckland, go for a visit to Waiheke Island in the summer, stunning walks and beaches and great cafe culture
You're welcome to come to our church sometime! The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we have some all over the country, Google locations to find one close to you 😊

omg THANK YOU for talking about hair care for us out there, like that's my main concern LMAO. do they let most hair products cross the border? I feel like imma have to do a yearly trip to the states just to buy all the hair stuff I need to survive 😭
Bro, our hair is the most important 😭. Yeah, they let hair products in just put them in your big bags. I mean there are some hair products but they’re limited and more expensive but you’ll see when you get here💗
Hopefully I am coming to NZ soon from Nigeria, you really don’t know how much you just encouraged me, I am very scared to come to NZ because I am traveling alone and I don’t know if there are Nigerians in NZ
Here's how I see it and I don't mean it in a bad way. SA and USA are the only people who "insist" on using the Terms Black/White. In a lot of countries like NZ, if you come from SA, we call you South Africans, we don't care what your skin colour is. This applies to Americans as well. As for the lack of products or the cost of getting braids done, I see a business oppertunity you may wish to pursue. There are many vlogs of people who move here that expect what happens in the country they left, should apply here. To these people I say go back. I'll end this by saying, those that come here and find a home, they contribute and enrich the way of life of this country. I wish you well (nice video) Auckland ???? I saw a person with blue hair once, never going back, weirdo's!
So true. We do say American or South African and dont think in terms of colour. It wouldnt be the initial thought. After awhile we would think oh gosh thats right you get hassled in your home country!!! We would look only because girl you are stunning...its with admiration
