Now a day, the is more screen time for their faces and less screen time for the products. lol
Imagine doing a review of a surveillance camera and not showing much footage of the video quality 🤔
Exactly
Typical lazy review with no footage I have this and the doorbell will have footage in review soon
🤣👍🏼
@@techbuzzireland sooooo where's that vid? 🤔
Watching this video made me not wanna buy one lol.
Some sample video footage under various lighting conditions would have helped make this review actually useful.
A review of a camera without showing any footage or comparing video quality.
I have one and got it in the doorbell/camera/hub bundle. I'm happy with it so far and frankly, am willing to live without features of other brands. We are a Google house and already heavily invested in Google assistant, home and wifi devices. Having just gotten rid of our last Canary device, I can't tell you how much easier it is to have a single app to run all of my smart home stuff. My only desire at this point is the ability to get all notifications on our Nest hubs as well as on our phones.
“We are a google house” I felt that 😂
Is there a subscription fee?
Not waterproof? That is a deal breaker, especially at $180.
I don’t care about waterproof. I do catch if it’s weatherproof
I wish the older cameras could still be available for purchase. I bought the Nest IQ many years ago, it's been up on my house ever since I purchased it. Never once did I ever have any issue with it nor did I ever have to touch it for any reason, it's a workhorse. It gets rained on and beat up by the Arizona heat year after year and yet it performs like it did on day one. Been meaning to buy a few more to cover the back of the house too but now that they moved on to these cheaper magnetic cameras, I'm starting to hesitate in my purchase. They don't appeal to me like the IQ's did
Downgrades. Google tanked the Nest Brand. Nest posted videos of how intensely they worked on achieving form + function. Now, they’ve severely cheapened out on hardware pushing and claiming their software [makes up for it]- if their software is so good, how much better would it be if coupled with the older, better hardware?
They have another outdoor camera that is more rugged.
A Nest camera without 24/7 recording is useless for me. That's literally the only reason I use Nest instead of Ring right now.
Then just hardwire it.
You use nest for 24/7 recording? How do you pull the recordings off the nest service? I tried to do this and could only do it via the Web interface, through an extremely cumbersome process.
Wait what? You can’t record 24/7 365 days a year?
@@PoSSeSSeD82 You must have missed that whole part about how awkward the wire is on this thing.
@@adrianscarlett It's true. The web interface is really the only way. Google is in a weird place right now. The Nest app is supposed to be discontinued and all of the features from that app are supposed to come to Google Home, but that has been in the works for a long time with no real sense of when it might be completed. Still, the 24/7 recording is mandatory for me and at least I have the data to comb through when needed. Most of the "on motion" cameras don't seem to capture the actual event or enough of it to do me any good.
Costco Black Friday 3 pack for $379 I’m vested with all Nest products. Doorbell,Thermostat ,Cameras and smoke detector/carbon monoxide detector. The main reason is bc it’s so much easier to have everything on one APPS. So far I have no issues with camera (battery). Works fine. Only records if something triggers camera to turn on. Not 24 hour recorded surveillance like the WIRED doorbell. I bought a camera shade to place over camera to protect better from the Texas heat. Video is extremely clear if your 10-15 ft from camera. Further out not super clear. Motion very sensitive. Picked up cats walking by. Etc etc. My cellphone gets alerts immediately when it picks up anything walking by. All in all. It’s just what I suspected. Good camera. I chose battery camera because don’t want to deal with wires. Extremely easy to mount.
Costco now selling the 3 pack 'google nest cam battery' for $300 (Sep 2022) [you only get 1 charging cord/plug, though] I wish that Google Home was available on a desktop...
I love the shuttle burn to your producer.
a three percent drop in battery every twenty four hours is only thirty three days before you have to re charge and that's on battery saver mode... not even close to the advertised time
I installed one two weeks ago and it’s died today
@@beaker1068 good to know, won't bother with this camera then
I look at it more like my coffee maker. It has a battery in it to maintain the time and settings in case of a power outage. Any battery only camera seems dumb, but a plugged in camera with a battery backup in case of outages is awesome, especially with an hour of on board memory incase of wifi outages too. You need the camera plugged in to get 24/7 recording anyway, just plug the camera in.
Been waiting for this to come out so I can finally buy the previous versions for cheaper. And your producer, yeah he’s tweakin.
Previous version is nowhere to be found. Out of stock everywhere
Lol you can’t buy previous version
I don’t need to purchase it brand new. By it being cheaper i mean people selling theirs are less likely to be selling it at almost the cost as if it was new.
it actually went up in price
3 hours of free cloud storage is still woefully inadequate. If there's an event while your sleeping, tough luck
You can pay a relatively cheap subscription for unlimited cameras
The majority of people wouldn’t be experiencing 3 hours of constant events in one night. 3 hours should last for a few days (at least) of events for most people.
I have a lot of Nest cameras (around 15). Their pricing scheme is definitely better under Google. I am now paying $10/mo. total for all cameras. (based on paying $120 lump each year). Much better than Nest program costs originally. Currently there is a serious limitation to these new Google cameras that they are barely mentioning (she didn't). You can't scroll through your 24/7 video on the Google Home ap like you can on Nest. Dealbreaker for me.
@@IB737PILOT although that makes sense for battery devices. We're used to the powered ones which offer really extensive coverage. But for many people battery is the only option (maybe renting and moving a lot) and it's good enough. That's the vibe I'm getting from these cameras. Good enough
💯 agree
Had my nest cam for about 4 weeks and already it won't hold a charge long maybe 12 hours at the most. What's going on??
Would have like a more higher end camerafeom Google, such as Arlo Ultra 2, so I am not getting the Nest1080p camera my self.
What distance will it begin to activate?
it theyre gonna make it that large, might as well include solar power
There is a third party company that makes a solar panel for the camera (saw it on another review).
Wyze is not bad at all,I use to have one but one day just randomly stopped working it would turn on but that was about it but not bad quality honestly and for 6$ monthly can't beat that can also watch from anywhere and speak into the camera
I had Wyze but am switching to something else. The Wyze, all of sudden, kept flashing lights, and I couldn't get it to stop without unplugging it.
0:52 "snow". Lol, sudden low voice, one color. I some reason find it funny. xD
How do I turn off the white light at night and just use the infrared light at night? the google doorbell doesn't have a big bright white light at night and I like that.
Why does no one test the nest cordless in the wind? I want to see if you have to worry in high wind like my home.
Google keeps saying that it can handle up to "Hurricane-level winds" but I'm not entirely sure. I live in the Midwest where Severe Thunderstorms and worse happen almost every day in the summer, so high winds are a worry for me too.
Anyone have issues with theirs going offline for a second? I don't think vie ever missed an event, but sometimes I get a notification its offline. I have a Wi-Fi extender..
How long does the battery last when its -10 celsius ?
It’s not rated for low temperatures
I was one of the first to have the outdoor nest cam cameras and been super happy with it but when they took up their subscription to £10 a month I moved to eufy. Free local storage and 2k. You can't go wrong.
I did the same, but missed the 24/7 recording 😭
@@troyjusthutz eufy has 24/7 recording.
Nest software is very good I must say
@@AlexRocks24-7 we have the local storage one too but only picks up motion and records, we much prefer how the nest allowed for uninterrupted 24/7 recording which you can scrub through… something I wish the eufy did.
Eufy motion is not accurate. Many times it does not catch activity
how can i schedule turn off and turn on the cam ?
I like the wired better. This one doesn’t show up on my Nest App like the others do.
Is it compatible with the Echo Show?
Nest is the best when clicking on the live video in terms of loading it fastest
How fast? Looking for security cams just for this feature
CNET is back with my most favorite journalist.
Michael Cooley was the best
My pair arrived today, but, you're saying they're not weatherproof, but it's their "outdoor" one? I just wasted a few hundred dollars if that's the case.
Yeah--what?? I was considering mounting above my garage door, but I live in FLORIDA. Is it weatherproof or not? They should call in Indoor/Shade model then.
IP54, read the specs
I'd think you'd be fine, my google doorbell is ipx4 which is just splashes from any angle and it's held up through blistering winter storms and thunderous rainy downpours just fine. This camera is ip54 which is splash and dust resistant for normal operation, just not completely dust tight. And same water resistance as the camera. So unless you plan to submerge your camera in water, I'm sure it's fine.
"It only comes in one color"
"Snoh"
Google is good but it's a bit overpriced when there are plenty of other options out there. With the new doorbell and this device it doesn't seem like they didn't think about theft. You'll be recording someone stealing the camera and doorbell.
Free replacements from google as long as you file a police report
The event capture sucks on this camera. I have one for my front yard, plugged in. We have a lot of wind today so I walked into the center of the shot and walked around the yard taking in some Halloween decorations and the camera didn't detect me at all even though I walked through the frame a couple of times, clear as day. But it keeps going off for a car because one decoration flutters near my neighbors parked vehicle. It sees the decoration move and thinks it's the car next to it. It's gone off about 40 times this morning thinking a vehicle is moving..... But couldn't catch me walk through the center of the shot and yard multiple times. It wouldn't be a big deal if I could scrub the timeline like you can in the nest app. I wish I would have got the old version that worked with the nest app, the nest app is way, way, WAY better than the home app for the camera
That's why the first gen was way better... 20/7 video recording.. even if it missed an event you still had all footage..
Nowhere does it mention how long the recording takes to kick in once motion is detected. That's basically the only thing that matters with battery powered cams.
Nest is 24/7 recording
@@moemanm1202 but only IF you purchase the Nest Aware Plus plan. If you do the free or regular Aware plan, you don't get 24/7 recording.
What’s to stop someone pulling it off the magnet and running away with it?
The goodness of their heart.
This is what I was looking for! Underrated comment.
@@doompod exactly! 😂
Nothing
I have one and had to buy an additional Google lock for $14. It locks camera to the base
Hey nice video, I am planning to mount the nest cam in the elevator in my home.. since it is wireless and would not require complicated wiring within the lift, but not sure if the vibrations can make it fall since it is magnet mounted. What do u think ? Also what about the battery, would it require frequent charging and how long does one charge last practically.
Wait you have an elevator in your home
Will this battery cam be long enough to record a year full when I’m out of the country
Absolutely not, maybe a month. Our first charge notice just came up.
"That did not end well", too funny...
Can you see live video when not in wifi (away from home) ?
Yes. We installed ours yesterday and I got notifications while away from the house
" sunsetting the old nest cams " as in they will discontinue them eventually ??
Yep. It's an industry term used when there is an end of life/support date. After that, you will no longer get updates or support from Nest/Google. **with the caveat of critical vulnerabilities.
@@BloodyBulwark I know the jargon , just eurprising to hear based on how many I have .
how long does the battery last?
Did you watch the video
How do you upgrade to 30 day before it deletes its recordings?!
I've had The Nest Cam Battery for a few months now and it is one of the worst Google products ever as it is so inconsistent and it's absolutely horrific that you have to use the crappy Google Home App. These new Nest cameras are nowhere near as good as the older Nest cameras. Now having video clips is practically useless, but when you add power and go to 24/7 video recording then these new Nest cams are useful.
You didn't talk about the night vision or audio
I have had 5 cameras for 2 years
They are know good
I’m looking to change all the cameras soon
Well that's know good.
2:06 Why the rough edges on the camera🤷♂️ Did someone already drop the brand new demo product 🤣🤣🤣
Alexa show compatibility for motion notifications?
1080p 30fps?
I can't understand all this smart camera that do incredible thing, but none of them can be used as a simple ip camera with local 24h nas storage...
So what happens when they break in and steal the hard drives?
@@krisfisher2009 still would be a killer option for the large nas/nvr crowd.
Nest Iq is far superior compared to this camera. Boooooo to you Google for discontinuing it 😡
No mention of the best audio quality or the advanced AI features in the new Nest Cam. This is clearly an anti Nest Cam review.
I think it being magnet mounted seems problematic. Someone can literally take it.
Camera view only works if attached to the magnet mount. So they can take it but it won't work.
I have (had) wyze cam with the subscription. It sucks! I had 3 wireless cams at home and 2 at my shop. The problem is that the cool down between recordings was way too long and would either record after things occured. Or would be activated towards the very end. I was once robbed at my shop and it didn't even record NOTHING!! but would record shadows caused by on passing cars! WTH? Mind you I have the wired cams at the shop, the wireless ones are even worse. The batteries die within 2 weeks on DEFAULT mode (I have 3 cams) and again they are triggered by the most random things but won't trigger if a person is walking pass your house; plus the wifi range is HORRIBLE. If I change the default cool down settings, the batteries will die in a week. I'm looking into Google nest only because I hear their service is more refined. My question is, the video stated it erases video 3 hours old? What if something happens at 2am? By the time you wake up the video was deleted? That doesn't sound right.
Unless you opt for the subscription model, yes an incident that occurs at 2am will get wiped out by 5am thus forcing the subscription model.
Where was the review? All I heard was product features and facts.
Without 24/7 recording, it’s a deal breaker for me. Yes you can hardwire it but then it’s no different than the previous cameras
You can't hardwire the storage.
@@Hafiz100ify huh? The storage is all cloud based. Not sure what youre' talking about.
It is still different, lower res!
@@csn583 haha fair point! Just what everyone wants, less quality and technology!
Yes, you can hardware it for 35 more bucks...lol.
The plus offers 24/7 recording too
Damn why do some people say it does 24/7, and some say it dont.. I’m confused
@@dabaydestrian437 It only does 24/7 if you pay per month. Out the box with no subscription it doesn't.
Nest aware plus have a 24/7 10 days recording.
Why did Google downgrade the hardware? The older outdoor iq was IP66. The new one IP54? Not to mention it was actually a unit that you did not need to buy a security accessory so someone doesn't nust reach out and take jt since its not actually attached. I dont think google cares to carry the Nest legacy, nor cares about their customers. What a shame. Changing over to lorex once mine go out of commission.
The older cameras like the IQ were rated IP66 but they clearly weren't. I have a few of them disassembled and they leaked water in through the tiny gimbal housing O ring then rotted out the power board. This is clearly false advertising and I think Google knows this which is why they made the new cameras IP54! Good luck trying to get them to stand behind the product...
Not available on the nest app. This is a deal breaker for me. I will change to a different system before I would use these.
The Nest app is a dying app. I'd be surprised if Google doesn't shut it down within the next 2 years. They want all of their products on one platform. Which makes sense. But I do prefer the camera layout on the Nest app compared to the Google Home app.
But can it be used indoors and outdoors?
It's literally in the name (Nest Outdoor/Indoor Battery Cam) and they covered that in the video ("you can also purchase a base for indoor use") 🤣
thanx molly
Warning to those about Nest / Google. They just doubled the Nest aware costs for customers. Was going from $80 per year to $160. I immediately cancelled my Nest Aware. I will never again buy a Nest or Google product. Note : have an Apple phone and it is the best phone on the planet. Love it. Had Samsung before.
Nothing a spray can can't deal with 😅
Well I bought one to add to my group of nest cameras, 1 you can't use nest app with the new ones you must use Google home, 2 casting to your Google tv or Chromecast are no longer supported, will only cast to Google displays, 👎
You took off one word is that really convenience
Does this work with HomeKit?
No nest devices is homekit compatible out of the box unless you’re using homebridge
Literally WHERE IS THE FOOTAGE
I just permanently plug-in my battery operated camera. But don't show live action.
I like the looks of this camera and some of the free features, but nickel and diming you to death for this or that is crazy and typical of greedy corporations. Since it is Google, I would be concerned about Google spying on the camera like Amazon, and Microsoft was caught doing some time ago.
é isso aí manda um vídeo novo que o velhinho mostra o antigo
Here is why this is an incomplete review. You failed to mention they downgraded the specs on all cameras in favor of using their new in house "tensor " chip. They are claiming that it will use AI to improve video quality, object identification, and that it would send less information to the cloud in turn faster alerts and reduce false positive alerts. Thats the real story I would have liked answered. BTW IF TRUE, then it would void half your review in comparing it to other cams with better specs and price. *face palm*
does that mean it won't detect intruders ?
Wyze Cam please
I think this camera is a step down from their outdoor IQ version. the old one was weatherproof
Which it clearly wasn't!
I still have their older 1 thats wired why would ppl pay more to buy the wire separately lol foh
Why don't they have a 360 degrees google nest camera like the other one's like reolink this nice but not a real 360 degrees camera when you rotate it in your app like other cameras in their app. That's what I'm realing looking forward to from Google nest
This is a step back
Google is changing this wonderful world of ours one day at a time, I just didn't realize how quickly :)
Their "Dont be evil" motto was scrapped, sounds like a wonderful company.
so any one can pluck it right off and walk away ??
Meh, the 3 hour free playback is a joke. If you're asleep and something happens, it is deleted by the time you wake up.
Google corners you into forcing to buying a subscription.
The anti-theft wall mounts are sold separately, and the outdoor wires are also sold separately...
They eyined what was a good product
It loses 3% battery every two hours, and I have to mount it in a high enough or inaccessible enough place that people won't steal it? Sounds like a pain in the ass to take it down to charge.
My thoughts exactly seems so easy to steal
@@c_lent And the anti-theft leash is $15 a pop
Why can't we get regular cams offered by ISPs?
Why does this video seem like a rigmarole way of saying "yadda yadda yadda!"?
Battery life is crap. Installed one two weeks ago and it died today. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone
Can’t the criminal steal the camera on a magnet????
I'd rather buy a CCTV system for cheap that runs 24/7 on my computer. I would never in my life put myself under surveillance on behalf of a company that makes a killing off of my personal information for the sake of analytics to sell ad space. When you can't even trust the location setting on your own phone to not be used to sell ads to relatives or people you might be in contact with online, why would you EVER trust a surveillance camera with an online account from any of these companies?
Camera footage,,,,,,,,???
$35 power cable…really?..
3 HOURS? My Amazon Cloud cam saves 30 DAYS.
I have several of the older Nest cameras and this new Nest camera is absolutely worthless. You want to miss events? This is the camera for you.
Too expensive for what you get.
An expensive Google camera is mounted on an easily removable magnet so anyone can just grab it and walk away...?
So bad guy/girls could simply walk around your house 🏠 and pop them into a bag & come back later to burgle you right ?? Because they’re hanging there by a magnet 🧲
What stops people from just taking the camera?
Installing it out of reach…
So glad I didn’t buy one yet. That’s extremely disappointing.
This is way too big and way too expensive. Also, a magnetic connector is a horrible idea. It's so much easier to steal and who knows if really strong winds would blow it off. I'll wait for the 2.0 version and see what they come up with. This one is a hard pass for me.
I have been using the mag connectors on the original outdoor cameras for years. Even with 60+ knot gusts in Vegas, that is NO problem. Now, vandals stealing low hanging fruit - that could be an issue. Mount it higher?
Nah wind don't touch this thing.
Why should i pay Au$120 a year for a subscription ... such a deal breaker.
She definitely hated that camera. Lol
It’s a ourdoor camera and she’s comparing it to an indoor camera. 2 seconds in and bad review
The frequent attempts and fierce competition in the security-related device field may accurate understanding the physical limits of humans and offer better and legitimate cooperation between experts and technology.
Edited for ...clarity?
Did a robot write this?
Lower resolution, no compatibility with the nest app, less weather proofing, more susceptible to theft, cheaper materials
…this is several step backwards all for the sake of a slightly lower “entry” price (if you don’t buy all the accessories). Hard pass 😒
Thanks for pointing out the fact that this is not supported by nest app. I confirmed w google support; uses google home app, which is cumbersome, poorly designed, and difficult to use, with fewer features for camera functions. Deal breaker, I already requested return of camera on order.
