UPDATE: Battery Lift Oct. 2: unplugged Oct 30: Batter at 90% after 28 days with around 1-2 events per day. It says it will last 90 days. Feb 7th: battery depleted Lasted around 4 months on medium usage.
Hi Brett, great video. Just a heads up that if you go into the camera settings under Device information and click on Camera Mounts. There is an option to change it to other mounts and what this will do is allow the camera to continue recording when it is removed from the magnetic mount.
Another use case: I set up one of these indoors to see my pets when I'm not at home, with around 20 or 30 short events recorded each day the battery only lasts a week.
Why would you have an outdoor camera that can be stolen very easily, anyone can grab it without you hearing anything since it’s only attached by magnets
Just installed mine yesterday. Great product. I have a few issues, that I get too many alerts. Especially when I'm out doing things. I don't need to get an alert when it seems me doing things in the yard. Facial learning would be best to use in this instance and NOT give an alert when it seems someone it knows? But the opposite is only possible. Also, how about an alarm feature that if someone steals it off the mount, it sounds an alarm?
Thank you so much for this review. I've had these cameras for about a week and was starting to regret the purchase because I couldn't find how to do half of what you showed. Now I'm good! 😂Thanks!
I've had two of these cameras since launch and I've been impressed with the cameras but the Google Home app with is awful compared to the Nest app. I have both my Nest Cam Battery units hardwired with the 10M Nest Power Cable. Would recommend to anyone who is looking for a simple solution if you have the Google eco system. Wyze Cam V3 also is another option that is a lot cheaper if cost is an issue.
I have a Wyze cam V2 I just put in my window and turn off the night vision because of reflection. My driveway is lit up with a street light anyway and it is perfect during the day. So it is hard to justify $190 for the nest cam.
@@markwalters1584 You don't have 24/7 CVR (scrollable video history up to 30 days), incredible night vision, 2k/4k video, face detection, package detection, clip creation, time lapse creation, zone creation, smoke alarm and siren sound notifications, dog, glass breaking and child crying detection and notifications, E-911 etc etc. I can type for another 2 minutes but will stop there. I'm considering getting this, but not being able to integrate it with my other nest cams in the nest app is disappointing. Also, what's the point of getting a battery-powered camera and then hardwiring it? Wouldn't it make sense to get the wired one, then it can also work in the nest app?
@@iposttvshows Nest cams that were wired are discontinued and sold off cheap before the battery model came out. Also the power cord setup on the new camera is way easier to run. It is surprising how little info is there is about actually owning the device other than a bunch of online articles. This is my supplement to those to make sure every who owns one knows what to do with it

Nice video! I installed a nest cam with floodlights in the backyard. Does nest cam make announcements on the hub when it spots a person approaching? If not, does a nest cam alone (without floodlights) have announcement function? Thank you for the attention.
Great review! Two questions, 1. How long does the battery last on a full charge with average amount of events? What is the lowest temperature the camera can withstand in the winter?
@@tweetalig Your Nest Cam battery is faulty, take it back for replacement. Battery life is 3 - 7 months, depending on how active your events are. So count on having to recharge it maybe 4 times per year with typical use. EDIT: Just saw Brett's update comment confirming his battery: "Lasted around 4 months on medium usage".
Great video, Brett! My front door Nest Hello always stays on live, while my backyard Nest Battery Camera switches to idle pretty fast. I don't mind having to switch it to live when opening it, but is there a way to keep it live (like the front door)?
I wanted to buy a couple of these for my girlfriends house. Wanted them placed high up to get a good view of the front and rear of her house (she already has the google thermostat and doorbell). Also wanted it hardwired. But I just found out two things that have me wondering. I prefer how Arlo has a battery door where you can swap out the battery for a freshly recharged one and be done right then and there than having downtime like this one while recharging

Very helpful video. I have 2 in the backyard. I have tried to set up Emergency calling, but unable to? I have paid subscription, and sound detection turned on? I would really like that feature .
Can you set pre determined times of when to record and when not to record? For example we will have one caamera in our living room. But with us always there I don't need it recording us and giving me a notification every second. More so I want it to start doing all those things let's say when we leave the house
You laugh but we DID have a car drive through our yard and then over our driveway retaining wall, on which it got stuck before it fell fully to the driveway. Our Ring doorbell didn't capture it even though it was
Wow! Hopefully everyone was ok. That is one reason I love 24/7 video history. Someone I might know ran over a bike in our driveway yesterday and the new Nest Doorbell did not record any of it.
@@TechWithBrett l definitely love the 24/7 recording for this reason. The person involved was drunk and driving very slowly. The fact that the Ring captured all the activity afterward but not the actual incident was all I needed to switch to Nest.

Is this so you can get 24/7 video history? I guess that could be possible to have easy access, but something I haven't tried out. The solar panel wouldn't charge the battery back fast enough.
Please compare the quality of the two new generation cameras available the indoor/outdoor battery and wire vs the indoor wired only. Which one of these cameras are superior structure and function. Moreover, the one you reviewed is about 1& 1/2 times the price and am asking if it is well worth it. Thank you. John. I compliment you as very good speaker.
It seems like an odd choice to offer 3 hours only of events on a security camera. So you go to sleep at 10pm, your house is silently robbed at midnight, you wake up in the morning, and you have zero ability to check your camera for the footage (without having previously purchased an additional monthly subscription). I want to buy Google, but this is a hard pill to swallow.
So if there were an event at say 1 am and another at 5 am, you would not know about the event at 1 am..is that correct? Im only concerned with people, not animals or cars
Correct. It's an odd choice, probably made to force the subscription purchase. The way i justify it is that you do get a slight discount on the yearly sub, and the non subscription individual cams are not quite as good yet in terms of detection. So I'll give them a year or two. Once there's something better I'll swich to that and use this as an indoor cam
I'm still confused about the part where the power cord is required. I already have Nest Aware for other cameras and simply will add this one to the account. Will or will not this camera provide Nest Aware video history access if not plugged in?
That is correct. Having it plugged in is the only way to get the 10 day 24/7 history. Other than that you we only have saved events for whichever Nest Aware plan you have.

Can you view your Google battery camera on your phone when not at home. I have installed one and it does not let me stream remotely through the Google home app like my older nest is cameras on the nest app?
Great video and information. Moving away from my Arlo systems as they are changing the system use, plus I want something that on one type of platform. Anyway, trying the Google Nest battery this week to see how it does before I consider buying one more. This would downgrade me from 5 cameras to just 2. So thanks for sharing all the great info..
If this is being mounted Outdoors, but very close to an electrical outlet, can I just use the cord that comes with it??? And can it be hung from a ceiling? Looking forward to hearing how long does the battery last and how do I charge it.
The cord it comes with is not marked as weather resistant. But if you have a way to cover it, probably it’ll work. The thing is that cord has one USB type A end, so you need to plug it to a power brick or an outlet with USB port, which is much more complicated to make it weather resistant.
The closest thing I have found to hard wiring it is this Wasserstein Floodlight. geni.us/ACS5zMl (affiliate) Full video: ruclips.net/video/h_uCppCOq2U/видео.htmlsi=AWrwT8_-0c6CMPYx
If it is dark gray or black there is no recording. If it is light gray then it has a recording but not from an event. And then the blue line are the events recordings.
I have a question how many cams can you hook up to this app and if the power goes out or the internet is no longer available, will it reconnect on its own ? Will it notify me and let me know that the internet is not available?
I have set up a new wifi/router modem and need to add the wifi to my cameras. Everything worked fine before with the old wifi but now I can't seem to get the cameras to reset to the new wifi system. Any ideas to help get me up and going again?
Hi, for a drywall application, can the power cord be dropped inside the wall when installing an outdoor camera so as not to show the cable on the inside wall?
Here in Aus, they are so expensive at $329 a camera. I bought 2 reolink cameras for half that. Yes they are completely different systems and Google's AI is better I think personally. its a hard pill to swallow

Check out Wasserstein. They make solar panels specifically for the Google cameras.
Great video! How do I get and share Google Nest Cam live video link ?!
will I get a full screen landscape view on my phone?
Will the camera send me a notification if it is going offline for any reason?
Had to return them seeing they don't work on the Nest app anymore... so disappointing.
You said you'd cover the tether cord in a different video but can't find it
Awesome Review! I just bought the 3 pac Costco on sale for $310.00 needed this over view. 👊🏽
Can you view your Google battery camera on your phone when not at home. I have installed one and it does not let me stream remotely through the Google home app like my older nest is cameras on the nest app?
Great review. This camera only has the magnet to secure, so someone can come and take the camera .....if outside
I think you can buy a anti theft mount
Great video and information. Moving away from my Arlo systems as they are changing the system use, plus I want something that on one type of platform. Anyway, trying the Google Nest battery this week to see how it does before I consider buying one more. This would downgrade me from 5 cameras to just 2. So thanks for sharing all the great info..
How do you charge or replace the battery?
Is there an option for the camera to record video on a NAS?
Hi Brett great video. Can you say hey Google to the camera and the command work? I would like an outdoor Google home.
It does not have Google Assistant built into it. The best option I have seen is a battery powered weather resistant Assistant Speaker.
Hi - will the nest app alert you that the free 3 hours of event history has been captured so that you can manually delete and refresh?
how do you know the camera is charging ?
what if camera is just charging white color ?
So is there no option to hardwire the nest cam? You need to plug it into an outlet?
The closest thing I have found to hard wiring it is this Wasserstein Floodlight. geni.us/ACS5zMl (affiliate)

I notice you have multiple brands of cameras, from Arlo, Kasa and Nest. Which do you think is best?
So it only keeps the recordings for 3 hours or does it keep 3 hours of video?
Can you still view this camera via the Nest app?
when your looking at the timeline the events are blue lines. what does it mean when some or all of the blue lines are gray?
If it is dark gray or black there is no recording. If it is light gray then it has a recording but not from an event. And then the blue line are the events recordings.
what was that thing going around the edge of your grass during the cat footage??
Have you figured out how to delete clips/events? I don't see the option anywhere.
For email notifications, is a subscription required with nest aware?
I have a question how many cams can you hook up to this app and if the power goes out or the internet is no longer available, will it reconnect on its own ? Will it notify me and let me know that the internet is not available?
Do you know if there’s a way to turn differences lights on the house when the nest cam detects a person at night?
I have set up a new wifi/router modem and need to add the wifi to my cameras. Everything worked fine before with the old wifi but now I can't seem to get the cameras to reset to the new wifi system. Any ideas to help get me up and going again?
So if I installed 3 of these cameras can I include them under the one backup plan or is it 12 dollars per month for each camera?
It’s $12 per month, unlimited cameras.
Hi, for a drywall application, can the power cord be dropped inside the wall when installing an outdoor camera so as not to show the cable on the inside wall?
of course.
When you change your camera for outdoor can camera recording that time during the charge?
Here in Aus, they are so expensive at $329 a camera. I bought 2 reolink cameras for half that. Yes they are completely different systems and Google's AI is better I think personally. its a hard pill to swallow
All big name tech is expensive here in Australia
@@432wheels Even the Wyze Cam is like $99 lol.
I know I'm late to the game but if it's plugged in does it record continuously?
Yes, if you pay for the Nest Aware subscription.
