  • We test two high-end outdoor cams with bright floodlights to see which one will work better for the exterior of your home.
Both the Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro and the Nest Cam with Floodlight have solid specs, including all the basics you might expect. We compare the finer points, then run them through the gamut with vision and alert tests, both during the day and at night.
We also take a look at the wider smart home fit for each, as Ring works better with Alexa and Nest works better with Google Assistant.

Ring wins with the alarm, nest wins with the clearer imaging and 24/7 recording. My neighbors work truck got broken into, their ring only caught the end of it while my nest across the street recorded everything before and after with clear image of plates. This guy probably had bad wifi. My nest cams annoy me with how frequent I get notifications. Sounds, bugs flying by, etc.

You really can't talk about Google's new Nest products without mentioning that the app itself has transitioned to Google Home rather than the Nest app, which has left earlier adopters of Nest cameras in limbo. Combined with the cancellation of Nest Secure without replacement, I'm pretty disappointed in Google and won't be adding any new Nest devices to my home until I have more clarity about the future of the brand.

Same here. Love the Nest app and earlier cameras that work with the Nest app. I no longer purchase any more Google Nest products because of the awful integration with Google Home app. I'm now considering switching away from the Google ecosystem to Ring because their app is like the Nest app but has more home security products such as mail motion sensor.

I have the same issues with Nest Google cameras. With the present second generation of their cameras, you can't make tailored videos to the real vital events, you only have access to the event clips that the software decides, and you thus miss vital information. Also, you don't have a timeline of events which is vital information for law enforcement officers. Even though I currently have five cameras of Nest at my place, I am instead considering buying the Ring camera for my girlfriend's house.
