I loved my Nest cameras as well. Long story short I had to get some quality cameras because my downstairs neighbor was literally psychotic, always yelling and started throwing things at my apartment. She eventually got evicted and I returned the cameras but I had a really positive experience with them! The quality and ease of use with the app makes me want to get them again in the future the next time I am looking to get a security system. The magnetic part of it is was just so sick like you demonstrated with the flood camera. The night recordings were a nice touch too! Congratulations on the home!
Nice video. I had to return my 3 pack nest cams. They didn’t really work well for security, and was a hassle to get them to stop recording even after setting the apps up on everyone’s phone. Plus, having a nest cam but having to switch between Home app and Nest app seems a bit ridiculous.
we had a small apartment and I plopped a Nest Hub Max on the counter facing the interior door and got Nest Aware. We'll just say that it proved rather useful pretty quickly. Now we're in a bigger place and the NHM doesn't provide as much of the security features it once did. It does monitor a point of egress, but mostly it's the weather frog and calendar etc. Just recently I decided to get a couple doorbell cams, opting for the battery option because a vertically large image is ideal for the doors they're affixed to and they can potentially be more useful in the future (an interior door, or door to a garage or shed where wiring is insufficient), as well as a couple additional Nest Hub gen2's since my wife works from home now, having one desk-side is ideal so she can see a bit of what's going on without having to go AFK. It's a bit of a pricey ecosystem, but it's where I'm at and it's what works for the family since everyone is able to interact with one of several Google devices around the house. Using it as an intercom system has been very pleasing for me, and whole-house alerts and connected device control is always useful. When I'm running out the door I can simply have a routine turn off any TVs and lights etc. I'll be interested to see if they eventually revamp the other home security items recently killed off in the Nest lineup. If they're anything like the smart lock, I may keep my distance. But as detection and supplemental early warning systems that also prove hugely useful for day to day family life spread across a house, I've been very pleased.
Great video Brian! I love my Nest cameras. Question for you... what purple case are you rocking on your iPhone? It looks great and I want a purple one. Thanks
Hi, looking for a security camera at home so im interested with nest cam. Am wondering whats the type of power adapter it's using, any brackets to allow wall connection and am able to use my app to rotate the view? After a year use, any reviews?
I have used these for years. We watch our pets and wildlife out in our yard. As well as seeing people coming by. I first bought into the system when it was still dropcam. I have five of those, a NEST outdoor, NEST Cam IQ outdoor and just got two battery powered NEST Cam Outdoor. The battery powered units very in how long the battery last because the temperature and use settings.. I move those around for different wildlife shot. I also have three other NEST beta items. Don’t ask I’m not telling.
Would you a review on the apple homekit and their features sometime in the future. I’m debating between the google nest or the apple HomeKit. Great Video though
There are unfortunately, very little options for a HomeKit security system, or you have to go through unofficial roundabout ways to make other brands compatible and its not worth it to me
It’s cool they sell other cameras. I’d go all wired just because I don’t want the hassle of recharging a device. If you take your doorbell inside to charge then you don’t have a doorbell cam surveillance because it’s inside being recharged.
If there's a wiring set up in the right place, sure it makes sense but not everyone has it that way. I only recharge it every 5-6 weeks, so it's not that bad
I'm sorry but when Google purchased Nest they really messed it up. I have 3 cameras for 5 years but am looking to switch to Ring (I already have doorbell and 1 spotlight cam). Use to be the service with Nest was top notch and worked great (notifications, detection....) but now it goes off with a spider crawling by but no detection for a large van that pulls up within 10ft of the camera (really?!?) Also, picture quality has gone down and there support now is almost non existent.
Love you Brian, but as an owner of lots of previous gen Nest cams, I absolutely hate this. Currently, there are two completely different experiences for Nest cameras in the Google Home app. There are the new cameras, which support scrollable history, downloading clips, adjusting settings, getting motion notifications, and the ability to see a live view. And then there are the older Nest cameras, in the homes of millions, which are utterly useless through this app. You can see a live view, but that’s quite literally all you can do. Everything else from history to notifications are handled by the older Nest app, meaning you need two apps on your phone if you have a Nest Cam IQ and the new Nest Doorbell....and there's no web app for the new ones. It’s absurd. Not buying any of their new stuff until they figure their shit out
Damn, so sorry to hear. I just kept waiting it out until they made their new doorbell, so I obviously don't have the same frustrating issues you do. I didn't realize it was THAT bad for earlier gen owners :(
I’m in the same camp… my OG outdoor cam is starting to give up and I’m thinking of just losing the 24/7 access and going with an outdoor HomeKit camera that is event-based since I don’t like the new nest offering.
I have the wired Nest doorbell since 11 months and four other Nest cameras since a number of years. The Nest Aware Plus subscription with Google Home is very disapointing as it is impossible to select and create personnal videos, you have to settle with the event driven clips that the software determines, and those clips miss a lot of very valuable information. A lot of events are not captured by the software; also, there is no timeline of events that is provided wth the clips which is invaluable information for law enforcement. Apart from that, the cameras are sturdy and of quality.
How does the battery powered camera work? Does it mean u have to take it off and charge it every once in a while?? In that case what’s the battery life?
It's battery life is roughly 6 weeks or so from my experience. It depends on how much you access it. You will a lot when you first have it, so i'll say 5 to 6 weeks roughly with normal use.
So it might be in the links for the specs… But hearing how it stores information… wether you can store it online (as apple is saying unlimited storage for security cameras… At least I thought they did) and wondering if it integrates with any router… But I am sure it is in the specs if I look around. But those are the kind of things that popped out at me.
No monthly charge to use the system but there is an additional Nest Aware plan that you can pay for to save a months worth of footage and a few other perks.
Hi Brian! I am having an issue with my nest doorbell battery. After I run through the setup I am getting an error message saying that my camera is not mounted. Any ideas how I can fix this? I've tried repeatedly to mount to the metal bracket and I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Nice house, nice drill. The house im connected with only has a general alarm system and apple deviced only. Good to know. "Alright clancy, take the boys and surround the house." Love to see a night video on your phone of some one walking by. I still like the yard lights that go on by them selves to show intruder in the yard. And a switch to shut that off in high winds!
I purchased the Google Nest Cam floodlight, Nest Cam (indoor), Nest Cam (outdoor) connected with the Google weatherproof cable, Nest Hello doorbell, and all with the Nest Aware Plus subscription, and so far not impressed. Hey Brian, please could you do a review on your Google Nest Cams, and if money ain't a thing please do a review on the other Nest Cams I purchased, which are current models. The people have to know, that Google needs to step it up. And nice pad!
I have everything you have and more. Really unhappy with the new line. 1) the wired camera drops from the network between 1-7 times a week. (It’s not my wifi, the night vision is overheating the camera). 2) I have the 60 day recording and you can only export videos where it detected motion. The older nest system could export anything. 3) the new google app takes more clicks to get where you want vs the older nest app. 4) not all your older nest products work in the google app. 5) they abandoned nest security so it really isn’t a full home suit. Overall the new google products have poor quality when compared to the old ones.
Am I missing something? Are these devices now compatible with Apple HomeKit? Because they were not HomeKit compatible the last time I checked--which is a hard no for my home.
@@briantong Thanks for the clarification. That's a shame :-( because I really liked that it was battery powered using a rechargeable battery. But I'm holding out for a HomeKit compatible doorbell.
