Excellent video! I’ve been struggling with the decision of hardwiring the nest cam outside, and your video made me realize I can utilize the covered outlets our home came with (or replace with locked ones), instead of drilling through the home, which my wife is not agreeing to as of yet. Thanks so much for the video I needed to hear that! Also, would like to see and know more of how you use the silicone caulk in lieu of drilling another hole
It's a bit late, but the silicone can be used for some light mounting. In the case of that wire, I would first tape the wire in place with something like duct tape. Once the cable is secured in the correct position, I would quickly clean the area where you will apply the silicone, alcohol is a good option. Then squeeze out a larger bead of silicone (let's say around a teaspoon and no more than a tablespoon) onto the surface where the cable will end up. Press the cable into that bead, and ensure that the cable doesn't try to make its way out, if it does some more tape may be needed or you can just apply some torque to the cable itself to retrain the conductors into a shape which doesn't want to spring away from the surface. Leave the entire set-up to cure for at least 24 hours, preferably 48. After that remove the tape and you should be good to go. Give the cable a light tug to ensure it doesn't just come right off.
I love how Tippy was a new member of your channel. Apparently she holds no grudges that you helped her people spy on her. On a serious note, These type videos are so helpful. Have a wonderful holiday with your family, Brad.
We’ve had this sys for over 4 yrs. We love it. Not to mention the other add ones we have, like door/window sensors, tstat, and smoke/ carbon monoxide detector. 😄🤙🏼
Heyy Brad I always come to ur channel for references and I'm have trouble building a sliding door for my closet if u wouldn't mind it would help me a lot if u made a video give me some guidance, thanks Brad and keep up the work
I currently have my baby cams (infant optics) held up on the bedroom walls with push-pins. I really don’t want to drill pairs of holes to replace my baby cams w the nest wired; do you think push-pins will hold up the nest wired on my walls? Thanks!
Great video. I’m finding it really hard to buy in to the cloud based cameras though, they have you over a barrel when it comes to the subscription costs and I find it hard to believe they don’t process any of your files, e.g. to count movement of people/vehicles in a particular location and linking it to times etc.
How far can you rotate the outdoor cam on the base? I need one on the side of my house that looks almost 90⁰, is that angle achievable with the magnetic base?
You'll still need to install one for weatherproofing. It's against code to leave a device plugged in, having it exposed to weather. Although it doesn't have to be a locking one
Pretty interesting system indeed, Brad! Thanks! 😃 I don't remember if I ever told you, but a while back (late 2017 I think) a robbery entered my home. And, well... It was a mess. Really long story... Either way, since then we installed a security system here, but everything works on cables and so on. And no smart features either. 😬 But I'm going to look if I can find something like that here as well! Anyway, happy holidays! And stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Use two systems. Never display both systems with signs. Maybe display a Xfinity sign purchased on eBay. Throw off potential thief’s. Stay one step ahead. Two systems are worth it and it’s not crazy to be protected. You can’t put a price on your life.
and google has a direct video link to your location and where ever your cameras are pointed...and if you use siri, spotify or any other voice actuated programs, you are open to complete home intrusion from these companies, just like you get when you do searchs on google.. big brother loves your compliance
9:40 On that door, you may be better off by installing a storm door and then placing the camera behind the storm door. You can then run wiring inside the house. That way, no one on the outside can unplug it. That's how I have my current camera (not Google) installed.
you do some wonderful jobs, I am 23 years old and I have been learning to be a craftsman for less than 3 months ... I find it a fantastic job, I also opened this youtube channel where I make metal objects. If you have time, watch some videos and tell me if you like them
it's definitely got a modern look to it. My sister had the same concern, but after seeing the performance and benefits decided it was worth the trade off that it didn't match her preferred design.
The camera service from google is stupid over priced and the software is really problematic. The thermostat is only simple if it likes your systems and you like the way it works. If it works for you on first try, then keep it, but if you have install problems and need parts or help, I strongly suggest getting a quick refund. Every problem you overcome leads to more and then they will update and start your issues all over again. Our electrician gave up after a couple hours of dealing with tech support, and then google had to send a service partner who ended up having three guys look at it. This was for a home that only has a simple furnace and no AC!
--Wow dude. Way to bait and switch us. I normally like this channel, but you just waisted my time on a commercial.-- My comment is redacted. Content creator fixed the title. 👍

Very curious here. Why have I sold out to Google, but when I talk about other sponsors it's okay? These are solid products that I checked out and stand behind recommending. What makes this different for you?
@@Fixthisbuildthat There's a big difference in scale between mentioning how much you love a particular item, or thank a sponsor in the video. It's another thing entirely when the entire episode is literally a how-to or installation guide for one particular product. The legal copy on the bottom of the video really makes the whole episode seem more like an infomercial than anything else, but I get why it was put there.
I love the bug that walks across the screen!

You just had to publish this the same week I paid someone to come out and install our nest doorbell 😂
oh no, that's the easiest one :)
off topic but can you please show more of that amazing kitchen she has, holy smokes. ***chef kiss***
Yes, the kitchen is amazing! It's got tons of custom cabinets, a full Viking appliance setup and huge island.
Great video! I really loved the ladder down transition haha!
Thanks!
Thanks for the overview and great thumbnail!

Thanks for watching
Great Video. How much would cost to install the cam? I am not able to use the tool for health issues.
Thank you Sir
good vid.
The best part of this video was that he doesn't show you how he installed it into the siding. Which is the why I came to this video. Thanks!
Nice good info.
thanks, James!
Isn't it nice when everything is pre-wired in this house so installation is a snap?

I hope while you were there you also replaced those almond outlets with white 😂
I'll leave that for her and her husband 😀
I have a detached garage, and the Wifi signal isn't great out there. Think this would be an issue?
The bug around the 10 minute mark freaked me out!
Good
Thanks!
But what if Tippy gets hungry while they're gone - lol?

does it have sdcard storage and infrared night vision?
Glad to see Tippy is paying you monthly for his new found stardom
😜
The Nest doorbell seems very easy to steal.
The outdoor camera is magnetic. That’s easier
Is there a monthly subscription required?
You should consider not installing an outlet locking box outdoor. Thief can simply cut the power cable instead of unplugging.
neither is a good option is it
You'll still need to install one for weatherproofing. It's against code to leave a device plugged in, having it exposed to weather. Although it doesn't have to be a locking one
Does anyone have a video of running the wires anyone can take an old one off
10:01 A bug crawled across the camera!
The flood light is obviously on a light switch…. So, you have to have the circuit on all time???
Why in the world did they make the power cord point out towards the front of the camera?
I’m not a fan of just having wires hanging down the wall. Would love to see an install with hidden wires.

@@paedahe4975 That's very true!
They already know enough about us online, I wouldn't want Google starring at me on a daily basis.
Ring is SLOW to activate, does Nest actually activate when someone approaches?
I have the Ring at my house and am strongly considering changing to Nest exactly for this reason. It was MUCH more responsive than my Ring system.

it's unfortunate that the google products don't integrate with the nest app.
Google bought nest and is integrating all their products into Google home. So you should be able to use them all in the home app.

That typical ugly Google equipment looks kinda bad against that beautiful brick house ngl.
Infomercial?
The exterior light is held on by a freakin' magnet?? Won't make it through the first windstorm here.
That magnet is extremely strong. I'm sure they wind tested it as well. But a tornado might do it :)
I feel like if I was a kid living with my parents and they had these cameras I'd be miserable.
We need to educate users about the dangers of installing cloud based crap in your home that you don't control.
Google… can you explain us how difficult is it to remove cameras for me 🤔sorry for a robber from outside..?..
I pay $8.00 a month for two Nest cameras with five days recording history.
You have much more to offer than a 15 minute Google Nest advertisement.
that nestcam floodlight is really ugly unfortunately.. it looks very dystopian
