For nervous flyers and non-aviation peeps: Landing with a shredded tyre is not usually a problem for the plane involved, but it can cause delays at a busy airport because the runway may have to be closed while it's checked for chunks of tyre debris.
Sorry but do you know how they will change the tire ?
It's especially not a problem when you have 15 more sets
@@Jacob-qt1nta giant jack, sometimes out on the runway. I've seen it happen.
Here at ORD, I've seen plenty of flat tires on arrivals. I've seen the tire changes happen ON the runways or taxiways. The fire department will bring out their own airstair truck, and the city will send out their own buses. The passengers will be deplaned on the runway or taxiway, and the tire change is done right there.
I had a tire changed while at the gate. It doesn’t take very long if you can get a mechanic.
Nice landing by the AVRO in those conditions. The air brakes deployed are fab.
fAb
That 767 didn't have any choice but to continue. They rotated almost immediately after the tyre blew, so they were well above V1.
My thoughts exactly. They were way too far into their takeoff roll to stop.
They probably didn’t even know the tire blew in all honesty.
@@vito774 Exactly! For those that do not know, airliners do not have a Blown Tire Warning in the cockpit.
@gordonbryan8381 maybe not a blown tire, but many modern airliners are equipped with tire pressure sensors. The aircraft that are equipped will also get some sort of advisory message if the pressure drops below a certain threshold. Sometimes there is a message if there is a large enough difference between tires on the same axle.
I don't know about V1, but they were well into the high-speed regime. A blown tire isn't exactly good, but it's not the sort of thing that would firmly tell you "not today" ... and a landing is likely to be easier on the ones left than an RTO.
Thanks for featuring my video of the Avro RJ100!
How can we be sure that it wasn't you filming at a large crab angle and the Avro landing perfectly straight? 😆
Good vid, thanks! ❤
Nice shot man! The RJ100 is one of my all-time favorites!!
Got to love the Avro RJs. Great aircraft
And thank you for not commentating over the top of it!
I love this channel. No controversy, no deep thinking, no ridiculous claims. And, of course, Aerosucre. Thanks so much for my 3 minutes of happiness.
I agree with you on everything but the deep thinking part. If there’s one thing that this world needs less of right now, it’s thinking that is shallow.
....and no inane incessant pathetic running commentary either.
Such a great channel. Also one of the best parts is the title is the first part of the vid. Not making us sift through to find out what it is (but we all watch the whole thing anyways, I just like the business model.)
You’re joking right? Most of the time the titles are complete clickbate.
@@_chipchipwdym the tittle shows us what will come first. This video’s title was about an airplane landing with a blown tire, and the first video is an airplane landing with a blown tire
Love the wing wave of the Lufty King!
title of the next video: Delta 767 landing with a blown tire. ;)
"Boeing 767 landing goes wrong"
And the comments: "Oh, Boeing again..."
Loved watching the gear cycling on the Lufthansa A380. Great video!
Kelsey don’t care about blown tires.
Snacks are his priority.
Hey, you used the Atlas Air video from AVL but removed their logos. Credit where credit is due!
That wing manuveour was crazy
No it wasn't?
The WING WAG maneuver is also a good way to check rudder controls and other variables much like you spin the Helm on a Big Ship both ways before setting to Sea .
@@Richard-od7ydno it doesn’t. Also, no rudder involved.
Probably a pre programmed autopilot move.
@@dopiaza2006 nope.
The Airbus FO terribly overcorrected on the controls. That's not how you fly an Airbus.
Agreed.
That video was from airline video live you should show do credit
Yep, Kevin is aware of it.
Love the AvroRJ, Always the best!
Taking off with, and landing with, one failed tyre is perfectly acceptable. Boeing actually endorses it and recommends continuing to your destination in order to reduce weight and plan for your landing. Absolutely no reason, beyond a total absence of engineering at your destination, not to continue, especially above 80kts.
And they probably had already reached V1.
*Excellent 3 min of aviation ❤️*
*Greetings from Chile 🇨🇱*
1:31 Looks like he is stirring cake batter.
Best example of a pilot overcontrolling. Bad habit.
@@rtbrtb_dutchy4183 I'm not sure that it's the BEST example.... For that, check out the vid from 3 Minutes entitled "747 Pilot Fights Extreme Storm." (About a month ago?) That pilot really gets ripped in the comments for overcontrolling!
@@rtbrtb_dutchy4183 exactly! Thanks
@@rtbrtb_dutchy4183exactly my thoughts as well.
The LATAM pilot creating his own turbulence... Airbus calls for hands off the stick when flying through turbulence/gusts as the flight computer makes all the necessary corrections by itself.
Does that also apply to a landing? What you described sounded more like a thing when the autopilot is engaged but I doubt that was the case here
@@Kaenguruu no. Has nothing to do with the autopilot. In an Airbus you tell the computer where you want the airplane to go, you don’t fly it like a traditional airplane where you fight winds etc to make it go where you want it to go. The computer does that part.
No, the airbus autotrims but you still have to fly it. Though it did look like a bit of overcontrolling and the fo shouldn’t be landing if it’s that crazy
@@Kaipeternicolas Good to know thanks!
@@robboltwood where did you get your training?
The fact that the a320 pilot landed the plane IN turbulence WITH hearing 20,10,*5* is just absolutely insanely smooth. Skilled pilot
I love the queen of the skies!
Wonder is airline videos live knows You're using his video and cropped the channels name out...
The avro could just have kept the rudder in rather than letting it off. Just sticking in a fixed amount of rudder and leaving it is better than fiddling. Also the a320 is being a bit overcontrolled. Many airline pilots could benefit from more practice with small aircraft.
What is that opening on the plane's back in the last clip? I'm no expert, seems a bit large for a simple APU exhaust or anything like that?
Air brake
00:07 why say "forced to land" as if there was a choice?
Everyone loves the Queen of the skies! Can't beat the 747!
Great videos as always 3 mins!! ❤
Well the A380 can, and does!
@@N911GT2well that's personal opinion (as is mine) but the 747 has been delighting the crowds a lot longer than the a380 has 😊
@@flyingmyles So true, love the hog
@@N911GT2you’re joking right?!? The flying turd beat the queen?
I’ve logged over 10,000 hours flying the Queen. Great aircraft!
fastest 3 minutes. . . never believe these videos are really 3 minutes long. . .
The view on the Lufthansa A380 is takeoff is superb
The dreaded 17 wheel touchdown!
You’re welcome I love watching the planes I was lucky enough to fly on Concord to New York with my daughter My Husband worked for British Airways ❤
I saw concord fly overhead at London when I was a kid on holiday with my parents. I don’t remember much else from that age. But that stuck with me.
Blown tyre, couldnt have aborted anyway, it was at the point of rotate, not enough runway?? 🇬🇧
No reason to reject the take off. Boeing recommends continuing to your destination with a flat tyre.
"NO MOM! I SWEAR I was just practicing my landing of the A320 in turbulent conditions!"
The A320 pilot has a horrible case of over controlling. He needs remedial training.
My understanding is that you’re commanding roll rate not control surface deflection. The computer takes care of that. So you can achieve the same response with much smaller inputs. So the amount of deflection shown is unnecessary.
That’s my understanding at least.
@@MeppyMan yes, you are 100% correct. You really don’t have to make a lot of inputs. As a matter of fact, once you start “stirring” like that or if the airplane moves around a lot, they tell you to take your hands off the stick completely. This will stabilize the airplane.
But even with a none fly by wire aircraft, you really don’t have to make such extreme movements.
Just like flying your helicopter, tiny corrections works best.
Q: if that Atlas 744 would not have landed ‚forced‘ - would it have stayed in the air for eternity?
Seriously. Your click bait titles are getting out of hand.
And that 767 crew unbelievably ‚decided‘ to continue, even though a tyre burst on the main boogey? How dare they?
Maybe because it was AFTER V1 and effing simultaneously with ROTATE?
AV Herald:
A Delta Airlines Boeing 767-300, registration N195DN performing flight DL-257 from Detroit,MI (USA) to Sao Paulo Guarulhos,SP (Brazil), blew the aft inboard right hand main gear tyre on takeoff from Detroit's runway 21L while rotating for takeoff, the crew retracted the gear normally, continued to Sao Paulo, declared emergency on approach due to a possibly blown tyre and landed safely.
The return flight DL-256 was cancelled.
Delta Airlines said the crew was aware of tyre debris being found on the runway following their departure, Delta technicians however were unable to positively identify from photos whether the debris belonged to a Delta aircraft or not. The crew therefore declared emergency on approach to Sao Paulo as a precaution.
Now, CRM:

C
For R: they had to land regardless, with a blown tyre! All was considered, including Delta maintenance.
And the decision was made to continue to GRU.
The line of sight of the first plane landing was the All Time Worst for 3 Minutes of Aviation.
Fun fact, in the 1970s, a Concorde tire exploded damaging the wing of the aircraft and causing a fuel leak that could have crashed the aircraft if it wasn't for an observant passenger. The FAA recommended airlines and manufacturers put "runflat" tires on all their aircraft. To this day only a few companies do so.
Can anyone tell me, when the Summit Air Avro RJ100 lands, what is the functionality/designation of those "panels" on the tail of the plane?
0:23
The 747 has quite a bit of redundancy in it's main gear, landing with ONE shredded tire isn't a big issue.
It's when they lose one of the NOSEWHEEL tires that it's an issue.
Not sure how wise it is to continue with a blown tire. Nigeria Airways Flight 2120, a DC-8 blown tire caught fire and landing gear was retracted catching the plane on fire. Wouldn't a low altitude go-around with the landing gear down, land, repair tire and inspect the plane be a safer option?
Good break down Colin. I agree as you explained. Try to remove myself. But their are is no predicting the outcome, so its advantageous to always be armed.
The crew "decided" to proceed with the takeoff. Uhhh, they looked to be way past V1 when that happened. No "decision" to be made. LOL
Well, AtlasAir was indeed forced to land when he had a blown tire - I don't think he has in-flight refueling capability, and his only other option is to crash - no matter what, he was coming back to earth one way or another!!
I always feel so sad when I hear that ending music lol.
Very cool, love the heavies. 😎👍
What is the purpose of the air brake thing on the Avro RJ100 (last video)?
‘Deciding to continue’? They’d have no idea the blowout would have happened until in the air atc would have informed them a tire blew in the roll
exaggerated titles just getting out of hand now calling that exploded tire exploded when clearly it only experienced a harmless deflationary incident
That is not "show off" but rather Captain pilot is saying Goodbye bcos he is retiring.
Watch a young pilot masterly working his joystick, no registration, no sms 😏
It's not like the 747 could have stayed aloft while someone changed the tire.
Gj kelsey
They didn't "decide to continue". They were past V1, so they had to continue.
Hey, this video is only 2 minutes and 55 seconds, we got robbed of 5 seconds!
I am here because of the 747 incident occurred this morning in Hong Kong airport
At 1:46, the actuators can't respond as quickly as he's oscillating the stick.
The immediate slowing of the 763 following the tyre burst was so noticeable! I bet they didn't retract the gear to avoid any chance of a wheel well fire, and returned to Detroit
You realize that was just the video slowing down right?!?
No redundant footage in this one, we're 6 seconds and a tire short .... Cough.
1:40 the flare input is not that big, I thought they were actually putting more :)
Could the crew with the blown tire continue to its destination or be forced to immediately land?
I don’t think pilots fixing go-pros right in front of their main control input is a good idea…
Brilliant
One of these days, Boeing is going to create a system that changes the tire mid flight.
I've just watched a man play with this stick. 😆
Umm, i need 5 seconds of aviation 🤨
Hahahhahahahha your soooo funny and original 😐
@@Bababooey159 bruh ☠️
The Summit Air did very well to be fair.
Nifty! That could have been my friend Greg W. piloting that Atlas 747.
1:31 a lot of PIO here...no way is that necessary.
There is an easy way to keep the tires alive. The tires must be in rotation before the plane touch down. This idea was an youth science project. But the tire companies wanna make money, bought the license and never bring it up.
And how do you suppose they do that? The tires last a LONG time. I inspect the every day…do you?
It is still a trend to say "you owe us 5 seconds?"
last clip is insane
Anyone else tired of these Kachava ads? 😛
Well that was exciting….not!!!
The 747 part was horrible video
That last clip, the RJ pilot, stuck that landing nicely. Judges? 10, 10, 9.9, 10, 9.9.
Love to see pilot do wing wave ... bon voyage, au revoir 😅
1:30 try doing that flying a Boeing 😅
You owe us 5 seconds of aviation
1:05 the A380 is so freakin huge. It's crazy. It's really is like a flying oceanliner.
An aircraft IS NOT FORCED to land with a blown tyre. The pilots CHOOSE to land or the aircraft will run out of fuel and crash!!!!! 🙄🙄🙄
Nobody ask
@@Flyingprussureizedtube And I do not care about you! This content creator constantly produces videos with captions that are false and totally incorrect in fact. He is nothing but an expert at distributing misinformation about aviation because he has no idea about it.🤣
The 1st landing was super soft. Great job flight crew.
Amazing, I am impressed with your knowledge an skill
Blown tire landing is no sweat but when a shreded tire starts spinning on touch down it may tear up some hydraulic lines or damage the sheetmetal.

These pilots are well trained
Shoutout to 74 Gear
I don't think people realize how many muscles and coordination you need for the airbus stick. You literally use every muscle in your arm, wrist and hand. Super fun, but I still feel it afterwards.
What? No, you are not supposed to move it like that. This was a typical case of over controlling. And if you feel it afterwards, you are using the wrong technique.
Apparently it's not good technique. Check out the video entitled "747 Pilot Fights Extreme Storm" (about a month ago?) and grab some popcorn while you read the comments criticizing that pilot!
@@harvey364 I criticized him and he even responded. 🤣🤣 First tried to tell me I didn’t know what I was talking about, until I told him I used to fly the 747. Then I told him to take his video and show it to other pilots who are not his friends (friends tend to lie🤪) and ask them if he was over controlling.
I never heard back from him.
