  • This is our first time listening to Corey Taylor. Snuff is a masterpiece and it was great to see him perform it live. The way Corey expressed what he was going through in such a poetic way just made the song slap that much harder. We love acoustic performances as well, so this had everything we look for in a song.

    someone in your chat got it wrong, partly. The song was originally written about his ex, and Paul Grey, the bassist of Slipknot pushed him to go forward with the song, and years later Paul died. Now the song has a double meaning due to the loss of his best friend and bassist.

    Quote from Corey Taylor in 2008: "it's about someone who helped me through a lot and I thought she felt the same way that I did and then she really let me down. At the same time, it was good that she did, because it was that final push to me figuring out myself. The lyrics are pretty self-explanatory." This is an emotional song for Corey because he uses it as a tribute to former Slipknot bassist Paul Gray, who died shortly after the song was released.

      bingo

    • @Damalatorian
      @Damalatorian 3 года назад +5

      Based on my experience it can also be seen as you take the love to weight out the hate and rage. You can be in a toxic relationship and a common theme is "He/she isn't that bad all the time.. we have good moments as well." and you close yourself inside a box to justify why you still cling on to the relationship. The rage isn't always outspoken but can also be kept inside your own body.
      It's a real sad piece and the fact that Paul Grey helped him to get out of the relationship (and that I haven't read anything about abusement) I think that it were based on this and Corey Taylor kept so much rage, hate and sadness inside of him all the time.
      Been there, done that, got out and learnd from it... now happy and stable in a good relationship and can't even understand how I ever got into the bad relationship I had before.

    • @Jericheaux
      @Jericheaux 3 года назад +8

      I agree with that idea for a lot of people. But for some people like me, I would assume its more of a "When you love someone or something so deeply, and you lose that person or object of passion, you kinda of lose your bearings of where that emotion lies. And all that love you had for them, turns to rage, hatred and loathing, because it's gone and you will never have that same feeling again."

I really appreciate that you put effort into understanding the songs, rather than just trying to take them in as singular experiences; it shows you really care. As someone who listens to a bunch of music but is first and foremost a metalhead, it makes me happy to see people discover the genre and grow to be fans! Corey is a very talented person, from Slipknot to Stone Sour to his solo work, so it's definitely great that you got to listen to him.
    I would suggest that you guys give a listen to Gojira next (I'd go with either Flying Whales or The Heaviest Matter In The Universe). Also, I think you should check out some videos from a metal concert as well. I love what you do with lyric videos, but I think you can really understand metal music and fans through watching a live performance. I think some good examples would be Slipknot's Spit It Out in Download '09, Korn's Blind in Woodstock '99 or any video from Pantera/Metallica from Moscow in '91. Anyway, keep up the good shit, you rock!

    So I took the “Love is just a camouflage for what resembles rage again” as in, he’s taken on all her worry, all her stress and regurgitates love back to her. If you listen to the previous lines he says “Bury all your secrets in my skin, come away with innocence, and leave me with my sins”. He feels feels rage due to unhealthy (or dark) thoughts forged in his own head, as well as what she trusts him with, but he expresses love instead of rage. Similar to “Fire Away” by Chris Stapleton.

    “Love is just a camouflage for what resembles rage” my meaning of this is when you love someone it hurts twice as much as when you lose them from a passing. And you you love them so much but it hurts and you rage at the fact they are gone

    The best thing about Corey Taylor's voice is that it's powerful enough that in the regular song it's still shines through all the music. Both this version and the regular version are amazing songs.

    I’d say this is by far one of the saddest songs ever written bc it’s so raw and so fucking hard for him to sing. Not just that but it not only can deal with his own issues with a last friend but then how it is applicable to Paul and sadly now Joey since they left us now. It fucking sucks man

    I can't live without music. I can easily say I have listened to music every single day for at least 4 years now. It is the most universal language, you can feel pain or happiness in any language, even if you can't understand the words, you don't need words to feel emotion.
    I feel I resonate with this song a lot, I spent 8 years of my life being single so that I can focus 100% of my time to my career and ensuring that when the day comes to have a family, I can support my family and not have to worry about money. But after being in my own head for 8 years, I have become shelled, I have no empathy which does not work in a relationship. I was in a relationship for 9 months after my 8 year hiatus and after wasting 9 months I realized I am better off alone. His words "I cannot hate if I am alone" AGREED!

    Taking a break from the usual music (whatever you prefer) is the best thing you can do mentally. I left me genre for several others and found myself again. I was and am a rocker, but found ska, blues, outlaw country, folk, and felt way more through music than ever before. Music enriches us. Listen to something other that the radio!!! That nonsense is engineered for hooks and simplicity. Poetry is making a comeback and I loveeittttt

    So dope that you guys checked this out after the Slipknot video. This song is one of my favorite songs of all time that I put on from time to time. I want to throw a random suggestion that might not be your cup of tea because you are both so great with the intricate lyrical breakdowns but for musicality alone. Ever heard of loopstation? MB14 vs Saro loopstation battle, or any Saro loopstation really. It is to me one of the craziest things I've seen musically even though it's so not what you guys normally do. Just throwing it out there, and there's a big loopstation community of reaction watchers. Just throwing it out there, cheers for all the entertainment.

    The song was written about the divorce from his first wife and when he presented it to the band they didn't want to play/or inclue it in their album (which he was hurt by) but eventually it was recorded and the guitarist who played on the Song, Paul Grey, during the recording, supoorted Taylor doing it. Now he plays the Accoustic (sympbolism since Paul was the one who played guitar on it) version in honor of Paul which is you will see him looking up and getting choked up.. Kurdos to you guys for stepping back into all these different genres and giving them a fair listen :)
