This was my brother's favorite Pantera song. We used to listen to this one together. I lost him to cancer a few years ago as fate would have it. It's a grief song, that reminds me of him every time I hear it, that expresses my own grief at losing him.
Lex is such metalhead that noone can prove otherwise. :D (The part when she explains that the music took over and she just couldn't listen to lyrics....100% true)
I have been a metalhead for over 25 years and I also get so absorbed by the music, the talent, the feeling I also struggle to follow the lyrics too. Many people 'hear' metal and think it's all noise... if you actually 'listen' to the music it is far deeper in all aspects to many other genres you can appreciate it in so many ways. Lex, I appreciate that you appreciate the structure and depth like you do. Thanks!

Both Dimebag's band Pantera, and his brothers band Hell Yeah focused heavily on dealing with loss. Unfortunately, both men gone way too soon themselves. Adds a whole other level to both bands music.

That’s something that happens in the rap world. In metal, musicians die from overdoses or horrific accidents but not from getting shot. And there’s a conspiracy that phill (the singer) wanted dimebag and his brother (drummer) dead. The shooter tried to go for the drummer to but wasn’t able to get him.
You guys are my new best friends. You finally did Pantera. Dimebag Darrell was the greatest metal guitarist period. Rest in peace Dimebag Darrell Lance Abbott and Vinny Paul Abbott AKA the Abbott brothers.
I love the way they establish this song as a conversation. The lyrics position it as a conversation between the vocals and a reverend, but the song is designed to be a back and forth conversation between vocals and lead guitar. It's amazing.

Great reaction, welcome to groove metal 🤘 Been listening to Pantera since they started and I still get goosebumps from this song. It's one of the many songs that have helped me through some pretty dark times in my life.
To me it feels like they are talking about the need to allow yourself to grieve so that you can move on. The lyric's about not crying when she died and then the need to reverse their life and not live in the past, passing the cemetery gates feels like a metaphor for finally moving on with life.

Those were back in the good ol days when I could still mosh pit. Never been in mosh pits crazier than at Pantera concerts.
I saw them in the early '90's on Vulgar Display Tour & it was INSANITY! Literally the roughest mosh pit I'd ever been in. Phil had that circle shaved in the back of his head with the long pony tail & he pulled some guy up on stage who had the same haircut. They were both moshing around & you could tell dude knew the song so Phil just handed him the mic & he starts singing the rest of the song.... he 'looked' AND 'sounded' JUST LIKE PHIL. At the end Phil grabbed another Mike & they 'dueted" it out. WhATT?!! In the pit random people kept flying literally 15-20 feet in the air. I moved toward the front & slammed into this 7 foot UNIT of a skin head! He looked at me & in a growling voice goes, "You wanna go UP?" He clasped his hands together & goes, "Come on!" I put my foot in & dude launched me higher than I've ever been tossed in my life!! It wasn't until I came back down on that crowd that I remembered I wore cowboy boots to the concert... I still feel bad for whoever I caught with those boots. 👢 👢 Man that had to hurt. What a great concert!!

that made my eyes water.... I miss Dimebag so much, I remember the exact moment I found out he was killed on stage... one of the greatest tragedies of mankind and biggest losses in heavy metal music.... R.I.P. Dime and Vinny... ;(
Lex is genuinely loving this music. She definitely is into metal after a few vids I’m subbed bc her genuine joy of the music is unique among these types of channels. Brad is not forgotten here too, I like the dynamics between them and the two different takes I can see he is really concentrating on the lyrics and pics up on it right off lex shuts off the lyrics and jams out total metal head and brad gets deep into the song well done genuine discovery of new music.
"I will unlock my door and pass the cemetery gates" is a reference to suicide, unlocking your own door to eternity as your body passes through the cemetery gates on it's way to the final resting place. He is suicidal after the loss of a loved one that he just can't get past.
Nope, in the south it's a custom to lock your doors when passing the cemetery to keep "bad luck/spirits" out and he's saying he'll unlock his doors and let them in, maybe in a literal sense but more probably talking about letting in the sadness and grief he's been shutting out
Pantera is a legendary band that I had the privilege of seeing in person about 5 times before they split and then the guitarist was brutally shot on stage at a show. Dimebag Darryl was a guitar legend and to me the lead singer Phil Anselmo is a metal legend also. I really like your takes and I subscribed, keep up the great work!
I feel like this is one Lex needs to listen to several times. She focused on the musicianship and not the lyrics. She should totally check out "Key of Geebz" channel.
I love watching you guys because you both take music in in such different ways. Both are correct. There's no "wrong" or "right" way to interpret music.
The “You took my youth” line, usually is in connection with sexual abuse. And the line “crucified for no sins” sounds like being punished for not doing anything wrong. The rest of the lyrics seem to fall in place with this idea “I couldn’t cry the pride within my soul”. “I should’ve cried to spare myself some pain” “You left me incomplete” IMO
I went to high school with the lead singer, Phil Anselmo. Back then he was in a band named Razor White (1983-86). We experienced the suicide of multiple friends in 1985. I never spoke to Phil personally about the close friends we lost, I was closer to the drummer and bass guitarist. 5 close friends for me in that year. I know Phil was very close to 2 of them. After hearing it for the first time, to me it always represented that year for us as a group of friends. Phil was and is an amazing singer, his control and octave range reminds me of Rob Halford of Judas Priest. Great reaction!!!

It wasnt his wife that passes away, he wrote that part in different perspective, if i remember phil said he didnt want it to be to personal cuz it could be "cheesy". Its about 2 of his friends that committed suicide within 2 weeks of eachother. The song is about him dealing with the loss and flirting with the thought of suicide , I will unlock my door And pass the Cemetery Gates Thats what unlock my door and pass the cemetery gates means.

I like how you said that, Lex...the you that you were before a loved one dies also dies when they do. So you are not only grieving their loss but the loss of who you were while they were here. that made my eyes water....
Maybe he's a cemetery care taker and lives on site. So he had to unlock his door and pass the gates to go back in .. .
Nope, in the south it's a custom to lock your doors when passing the cemetery to keep "bad luck/spirits" out and he's saying he'll unlock his doors and let them in, maybe in a literal sense but more probably talking about letting in the sadness and grief he's been shutting out
Every appreciates the vocalist and the guitarist but the bassist is equally skilled here. The transitions are heavenly.
My god Lex is so dam cute, beautiful smile.
She's a gorgeous woman.
Yes! I watch his channel as well… they both just get so into the FEELING of the music and not really listen to lyrics right away. :)
That solo gives me chills and makes the hair on my arms stand up every time.
Suggest Black Label Society, In this River. Great song dedicated to Dimebag Darryl by his best friend Zakk Wylde.
Thank you random internet stranger- never heard of it before. Rough to watch, but a beautiful tribute.
Yes! Such a good song as well!
Thats a great song! Rest easy Dime!🤘
@@charlesgaudin1691 Wow man, that’s possibly some insight that millions would appreciate. Thank you, I could ask a billion questions, but no need to put that burden on you. I’m really glad you shared.
I've been listening to this since it came out on CD and years later until your vid have I come to know what was being sung in the lyrics because I too was caught in the melody and blocked out the lyrics of grievance. Thank You for sharing. Yeah what a voice and guitar! RIP Dimebag.
You guys should react to some "Skidrow"! Wasted Time, I Remember You, 18 and Life, are good ones to start with.
Lex, you nail it every time. Especially about grief. You are awesome!
If you thought this was grief, wait until you hear "Hollow"
You have my full support, Lex. Grief is very hard. I'm so happy that you have Brad to lean on. Love you guys... Peace!
I would recommend Hollow or The Sleep next by Pantera
Been waiting for this not knowing it came out 9 months ago! But damn I’m still super excited! Keep it up guys!
This was on the Tales from the Cript Demon Knight sound track.
I (Lex) was terrified of that show!! 😂
This was your best reaction/ analysis I’ve seen from you guys. And it was to a masterpiece. I hope you can make your reactions more like these, than doing lighthearted comical ones.
Have a great one!
It wasnt his wife that passes away, he wrote that part in different perspective, if i remember phil said he didnt want it to be to personal cuz it could be "cheesy". Its about 2 of his friends that committed suicide within 2 weeks of eachother. The song is about him dealing with the loss and flirting with the thought of suicide ,
I will unlock my door
And pass the
Cemetery Gates
Thats what unlock my door and pass the cemetery gates means.
yep exactly, the "believe the word" is basically like a "trust me I will do it"
First time at this channel and i loved the way she was enjoying this theme...remember the first time i hear this. Just closing my eyes listen this masterpiece
I would love to see y’all react to Sevendust - Denial.
I really think y’all would enjoy it!
Genuinely gave me new insight into not just this song but life and death in general when you said “the part of you that you shared with them dies when they do”
If you loved this one...then You have to do " Revolution is my Name " and " Mouth For War "
Guitar spitting all over the melody. What an awesome way to describe the song. That line=subscribed
Pantera Walk, Broken, 5 min alone.
I am not sure if 5 minutes Alone is a good one for them, lol
@@davidturner2449 I don`t think LEX would beat her man. She seam so sweet. But yes she do fell that metal wibe.
Awesome review! Great song choice for your first Pantera review!
Y’all should check out their live version of ‘Domination’ from the same concert y’all reacted to with Metallica in Moscow… it’s redonkulous…:) Dime’s guitar solo is otherworldly in it
I like how you said that, Lex...the you that you were before a loved one dies also dies when they do. So you are not only grieving their loss but the loss of who you were while they were here. Great insight. never thought of it that way. Brilliant! Truth....that part of you also dies with them. The me I was before my Mom died is no longer the me I am now. Thank you for that~
