    Allison Hannigan is brilliant here. She effectively plays four distinct roles: Willow, Vampire Willow, Willow pretending to be Vampire Willow, and Vampire Willow pretending to be Willow. Great acting.
    My headcanon about Westley is that his cover is that he's interning for a degree in Library Science. An unpaid internship would explain his presence and we've seen that the council has resources so they could set it up.

    First off, well done clocking both Willow’s getting the sand on her causing the chaos and Oz “will of my own”; many don’t (including me for years and years). Also, I was grinning like a fool when you said “We’re going to meet a Willow who’s much more inclined to stand up for herself.” Because, well…yes. :)

    Consdering how much you like Anya already, I can’t wait for you to see her more. With my first watch through as a wee 18 year old I didn’t appreciate her character, but now my neurodivergent adhd ass who has been learning a lot about autism via friends finds Anya to be endearing and more authentic than anyone else. Masking is exhausting, and she just refuses, because she has no reason to give a shit about how she comes off to people.

    Honestly, a stellar episode altogether, with great acting by Alyson Hannigan, but one nuance I like is when Buffy is about to stake vampire!Willow, and is then able to stop immediately when she's told not to, because it's her doing *exactly* what Faith was unable to do with the deputy mayor...

    The question of how does Wesley get away with hanging out at a school all day is a fair one.
    I like to imagine there was a moment like this at some point.
    Giles: I've told Snider I've taken on a trainee librarian.
    Buffy: And he was okay with that?
    Giles: He was once I explained that the school was essentially getting a full-time unpaid intern with a masters degree, which reminds me (turns to Wesley who has just entered the room) I said you'd cover 3rd period history on Tuesday. You might want to read the textbook in preparation. It has some... interesting notions about the late 18th century.

    Okay, so NOW I feel like I can say it: The Wish showed us a version of Buffy without her friends and there wasn't a lot of difference between her and Faith, as forshadowed in the teaser convo. Doppelgangland begins with Buffy saying she could've ended up like Faith and WIllow insisting that "some people just don't have that in them," then forced her to face the id version of herself. Thematic unity, baby! It's all about Faith! (and thus all about Buffy since Faith is kind of a shadow archetype .)

    Since Buffy marked her 18th birthday a few episodes before this, it's likely that Cordelia had as well by this point.
    Charisma (Cordy) is a few years older than Sarah, & Alyson. (She's 53 (54 in July), Sarah is 46 (47 in April) Alyson will be 50 next month). Alexis (Wesley is 5 years older).

    I think Wesley and Cordelia was never really thought much about by fans because in honesty Cordy looked about the same age, I think the age gap between the actors was only a few years, Charisma never looked like a teenager (where as Buffy and Willow did) and in season 3 dressed a lot older. Not saying thats right! Also Wesley was so immature. Wesley becomes one of my favourite characters.

      @colleendooley3689 agreed, Wesley looked really young too, and acted it! Not sure if I'm right but I just never got creepy vibes from him, he felt quite harmless. Buffy and Angel to me always felt weird, I never got it. Possibly because I was about 12 when I watched it, and first episode I ever watched was penultimate episode of series 2! Then watched half of series 3 before I got them on VHS and caught up

      The age gap that I always found interesting but no one seems to mention is Jenny/Giles. Now, I don't know how old Jenny was supposed to be but I assume around the actress's age. Robia was 27 and Tony/Giles was 43. All perfectly legal but it's always shocking to me when I remember he was 16 when she was born! 😂 (For reference: Robia and Charisma are the same age lol)

    • @noahrobin1941
      @noahrobin1941 6 месяцев назад +1

      I get what you’re saying, but I think there’s a caveat/disclaimer/thingy that goes along with that. I think Buffy in the Wishverse was pretty close to what Faith was like what she first appeared on the scene. To your point, she wasn’t where Faith is now, but I’d argue she was a step or two closer to it than she is in the Prime universe (he said, shameless stealing words from Trek fandom).

    • @Henrik_Holst
      @Henrik_Holst 6 месяцев назад

      @@noahrobin1941 sorry but I'm in full disagreement here. Buffy in the Wishverse was all work no play while Faith when we met her (and basically since) was all play no work.
      I simply cannot understand what kind of Faithisms that people see in Wishverse Buffy, that Buffy was strickly business, no bs, no jokes and it's slay or die. AKA as far from Faith as you can come.

    • @noahrobin1941
      @noahrobin1941 6 месяцев назад +1

      I think Faith was business-like in her own way. Yeah, she liked a good time, but (like Wishverse Buffy, I suspect) she defined herself, in whole or in part, by being a Slayer. She (rightly or wrongly) thinks she’s above other people and their rules, and will do what she thinks she can/must to do the job (stealing weapons, assaulting cops, justifying murder, etc). Not saying Wishverse Buffy would do /all/ those things; Wishverse Buffy is her own person, not a carbon copy of Faith. I just think that without the Sunnyvale support system Prime Buffy enjoys, Faith and Wishverse Buffy both developed in ways which separated them from others, and which made them a bit colder, more detached. For instance, one gets the impression that WishBuffy doesn’t have much in the way of personal relationships, whereas Faith has some but doesn’t take them seriously. They’re not identical situations by any means, but there’s some similarity. I think one of the differences is that Faith at least claimed to enjoy it (and probably does, in some ways) whereas, like you said, Wishverse Buffy is all the business/drive, without the enjoying of it part.

    • @Henrik_Holst
      @Henrik_Holst 6 месяцев назад +1

      @bin1941 we probably agree on more points than we disagree :).
      It's just that there are a fan theory out there that is quite strong with some that holds that Buffy and Faith are just complete mirrors of themselves, aka had Faith grown up like Buffy then she would have been a carbon copy of current Buffy and had Buffy grown up like Faith she would be a carbon copy of Faith. Too me this is mostly them liking Faith and trying to rationalize away her being a murderer be going down the "but you too" route when it comes to Buffy.
      Which makes Mirrorverse so important because that shows a Buffy with no friends and no support system and she is still not murdering people and are also taking being the slayer as the calling it is.
      Meanwhile Faith simply uses the slayerpowers for her own benefits [redacted due to spoilers].

    • @noahrobin1941
      @noahrobin1941 6 месяцев назад

      I never got so into the show that I got into all the fan theories; I certainly believe you that it exists and (as you suggested) we agree that it seems wrong. With less skilled writers it certainly could’ve been done that way, but it’s I think it’s too simplistic an answer. Also, while I appreciate the phrasing, may I gently suggest you edit your previous and remove the last paragraph? It’s not spoilery in any earth-shattering way but it does mention future events.

    I think this was another great episode from S3 and always a fan favourite with 'Vampire Willow' back again great incredible foreshadowing here too, and great comedy moments too when Willow puts on the sexy leather outfit and looks so awkward trying to act tough and evil. The fight scenes from S3 onwards improve so much. Can see how you are really appreciating the quality of writing and story lines as the series progresses. BTW regarding Wesley and Cordelia we have to remember Cordelia is now 18, and Wesley is not a teacher at the school, so all very legal and OK. However it was never explained how Wesley as an unauthorised person was able to just float around the school at will. That being said, even though he was not liked by fans at first, he provides some great comedy moments and I think he will grow on you.
