I got a Glock E tool when they first came out. I used the hell out of it, for many years! I used it for everything. Digging, cutting limbs for shelters, spliting kindling, shoveling coals, etc. It is by far, the best one on the market.

I was in the Marines '81-'85 and we transitioned into those triangle-handled things (you called it a military shovel, but I question that designation, lol)...I hated them compared to the older ones. The older e-tools had a pick and shovel, wood handle (usually hickory, but painted ODG) and worked great. I put mine through hell it never failed me. Ya, carrying it was not as good as that Glock shovel I'm certain, but they were very capable...I still have one for my "Oh crud, the demons are in power now" bag.

I've had the Glock e-tool for a few years now and it's never let me down. I've dug my car out of snow a few times and have used it for hiking and camping. It's lightweight, it's durable and works every time.
Same as the field knife and my Glock pistols, I know I can rely on it when I need it.

I own 3 of these. A few notes:
it has 3 positions: 90,135 and 180(shovel mode). the middle(135) setting is great for grabbing the loose stuff on the bottom.
the polymer handle is alot nicer in cold weather. it's also non-conductive if electrical shock is an issue.
the locking system doesn't have exposed threads like all the other options so dirt and mud wont "lock it up"
I've used the "135" position as a lever/pry bar for lifting logs off the ground to keep the chainsaw bar out of the ground
On 2 of mine I used a chainsaw file to add serrations which aids if digging in rooty ground. use a round file however, triangular teeth snag on roots
The saw handle sucks for cutting firewood but is great for cutting roots.reserving your folding saw for fire wood keeping it sharp
BigDaddyUnlimited have these for 37 bucks

I spent 10 years in the ARMY, and have used my E-tool for just about everything you could imagine, including but not limited to digging as a shovel, trenching folded as a hoe/spade, as a seat both for resting and for taking a dump, and even as a weapon. in harsh conditions, I would really not feel confident with a polimer handle. I trusted my steel heavy as hell but always reliable E-tool. as for a saw, everyone I knew in front line units had a small folding saw ( most of us had corona pruning saws) in our packs. this tool would be fine for weekend trips where you really didn't have much to worry about, but in a life or death situation I would bear the weight of the old ARMY E-tool every time.

Had one for twenty odd years, still going strong though it now lives in the spare wheel well of the car.
No "E"" spade can compete with a full sized spade. The Glock is a lot lighter and a good one to have compared to most. Saving weight is always a bonus if you have to carry it yourself.
The saw can cut turf, roots, and snow blocks. Its pretty poor as a wood saw.
The CS Special Forces Shovel is also good, but heavier. (Someone does a quality Titanium one which are better for the light weight carry; possibly one of the lightest and best "E" tool yet.)
    Anyhow, nice review. Glocks rock.

I have had a Glock E-tool for a number of years but never had a case for it. Definitely a great tool and I have used it a number of times over the years. I am really surprised that Glock provides such a cheaply made case for it. You'd think that since they have been dealer with polymers for 40+ years they could have made a case like the US E-tool. They make polymer holsters for their pistols and I can't see why they can't do the same for the E-tool.

Too many people don't sharpen their shovels. Both of those shovels there need a file put to them to get a nice edge.

Very good video, my friend. A lot of things I didn´t know, even though I´m German and Austria is our next neighbor. Like that Glock started with the knive and the shovels before they had any idea to go into handguns. I didn´t know about that.
For quite some time I want to have a Glock field knife and last year I was in vienna for a week and at some point I saw an outdoor store (military style) - they had all the stuff but it was closed.
But still I´m a bit like: "Why did I not went there the next day?"
I think they would have had good prices.
But anyways, there´s so much to see in Vienna, so wonderful. I hope I can go there again.
And I mean for the Glock field knife or the shovel - it doesnt´t really matter if you pay just a few $ more to those already cheap products.

Awesome tool! But I would like it in a different color like an olive green or something like that!
