I have one at least for 4-5 years and it’s my only knife I trust. Best price for value and I would bet my life on that knife. Love the glock stuff. Greets from Germany.
I found a model 78 in sand color in my back yard. It had been hit by a lawn mover blade but it held up very well. I have no idea where it came from. It's a great knife. My niece's boys love to go hunting with their father so I got them a couple of them for Christmas.
I have one of these in my vehicle. The saw teeth happen to be exactly the right tooth depth for cutting laminated windshield glass. I am sure that was not the intended purpose, but I have never found anything that cuts though windshields as good as that saw.
1:58 That's it! Thank You so much for this video! When I was young my uncle baugt that for me at a Gun store. I saw it and wanted it so bad but didn't have enuff,,, he sent it to me later on. I loved it more then most in my collection and felt bad for not being able to place it. I know now after all these years.
from what i understand the saw is supposed to be used to cut roots in the ground so one can dig a foxhole. stab in ground and then cut in a circle and dig out with the glock shovel.
A fantastic knife for the money. I have several I have bought over the years, starting in the late 80s. Sootch, so happy you have one signed by "Gunny"!!!!
A few years back I watched a bunch of videos on knife chopping. I even tried it out. Then I compared to small lightweight folding saws, no knife can cut as fast or efficiently. I like the longer Glock knife paired with a folding saw over having one heavier wide bellied chopping knife.
I love my Glock 81 Field Knife. Very Cool R.Lee Ermey signed Glock knife , Sootch00 !!!!!!!!!! My Glock knife is very sharp an it's Worth every penny. As always long live the Republic my friend !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Had a model 81 in OD green. Loved it! Knew about the Tube in the handle. Great sheath design as well. Have to a proper friend to return a favor. Think I'll get a model 78 next.
Usually just keep a machete for bushes and hanging limbs for trees. R. Lee Ermy autographed knife is cool! Usually just keep a swiss army knife for work. You may have changed my mind on these. Keep up the good work and thanks for all the content you cover. Hope yall had a good Easter, as always be strong, be of good courage, and LLTR!
I get the crazy feeling that I’ve seen this video before. I’ve had one for a few years now I like the knife just haven’t had a chance to use it in the field.
I've owned these since the 80's, all colors. Here's the deal: It is a bayonet meant for stabbing. But, Re-profile the edge to 40 degree inclusive, 20 per side ( a lot of work!). It becomes a great slicer. It is great for batoning kindling. Don't chop, instead cross baton a beaver cut (or use your freaking folding saw). It has a flat ricasso which is great for finger choil (detail work) and ferro rod when flat sharpened. The "saw" is for notches and roots, ONLY!. People need to get a grip about him sawing on his leg. The saw teeth are to fat and not sharp enough to do any serious damage to your leg!!! (unless you really try!) The spine on 78 can be sharpened for a great scraper. It is NOT full tang. I challenge you to break one of these!!!! Aint gonna happen!! I know, "But it's plastic"! That is what they said about the 9mm pistol, right?!! The hollow handle (which I don't really use) is for a spear or small storage. I saw a guy on RUclips "tap" and put in a bolt. As you take the plug out more and more it does get a little easier. Cut and shape wood pole and insert. The two holes in the handle are so you can drill and pin the pole to the handle. Don't throw your spear and loose it as the animal runs away!! - DOH! Again, it's for stabbing or extending your reach. The knife and sheath are very light. The sheath is designed so that your "combat" opponent is not going to pull "your" knife and use it against you! I don't like the saw model - 81. I prefer the 78. This is the lightest strongest (based on weight) knife/batoner/digger/defensive weapon that I know of. This knife combined with a saw, 4" knife, multi blade pocket knife with awl and hatchet is all you need in most environments. And yes, it is a great bottle opener as well!! - ha. I think you can still order the 81 from Glock's site for about $40 shipped? (not sure!) Ebay is price gouging these now. You can still get the 78 and 81, but they are gonna run $60 - $100!!!! The last I ordered was a couple years ago as gifts and they came from Ebay - Poland and Russia.
How does it hold the edge when you change the geometry? Would I trust a non full tang knife which is as soft as 55 HRC as my last tool? Probably not. The edge has to be rolling like butter. What's the point of having spring steel that soft? A good stainless would be harder than that
@@trollmcclure1884 Opinions are like colons, everybody has one and they are usually full of shite!!! Why are you posting an argument on a knife you don't own?! That is asinine!
I've never tried to throw my M78. I may just build a target out of some scrape wood and give it a try. Looks like fun. Bryan Stephens (Survival on Purpose) has a great setup. Thank you for another great video. Thumbs up from me.
Fantastic survival knives that double as bayonets. Impressive. I had to buy a couple poor mans stilettos for my urban stealth, they are only 3 1/2 inch blades (In TX you can have stiletto's 5" long that's legal). I like stiletto's if you can't carry a gun, as criminals always show up from your blind spot. I can quick draw from pockets or sheaths strapped to wrists.
Looks like good solid knife. Like any knife they each have their uses. If SHTF think kitchens and meat markets for chef's and butcher knives for game processing. When you think your knife is sharp check out a meat cutters or chef's knife.
Thanks for another vid in these times. I prefer the 78. For me the cuts on the spine of the 81 are absolutely worthless. Knowledge gained thru my experience along with many others. Better tasks preformed by my Silky, Varustalika 140, Scrama, etc. I wiill not however question the simplicity, ruggedness, quality or the ability to hold an edge on my 78. Stay healthy Amigo
If you prep then you don't have a 'do everything' knife or tool. You have the right tool for the right job. That knife is pointless for wood, pointless for skinning but excellent as a bayonet. Not a priority.
srspower some one who gets it. It’s a bayonet, just like the M7. Military lowest bidder quality, which is still better than Chinese. For a solo prepper not a good choice, but if you have to equip others then not a horrible choice.
This is so interesting. I had no clue that they made bayonets or quality knives. I thought they were more of a gimmick or novelty thing, I will definitely be picking one up now!
The Ridge Outdoors you miss understand, they make bayonet quality knives. In other words, cheap mass produced mediocre quality, think m7 bayonet. Yes they are better than the major, if not all Chinese made knives, but far from quality in a better than average sense.
I ordered one a couple weeks ago but for some reason Amazon shipped it and a couple other knives through the usps and they are like 2 or 3 weeks behind
Be careful, if you buy one of these it just might convert you into a knife collector. I bought one, and all of a sudden I ended up with a whole bunch of other knives that I really don't need. I keep my FM81 in my car as a "just in case" knife - as it's still one of my favorites.
Those are neat knives, I’ve got Danish and Austrian Army examples. Not that useful though, too long for a bushcraft knife and too thin to chop with. Sturdy enough for batoning though, as you showed.
Lmao i just knew I'd read comments complaining about you sawing on your leg. Although I will say I had to scroll more than I thought I would. Reminds me of the types that supposedly "flinch" when someone points a gun at a CAMERA. Odd they make that end cap so tight fitting. If I had that knife and wanted to store something in there, I'd probably run a few passes of sandpaper or a file on the cap to make the diameter a scoatch less.
Can you put a link..I want one.. I started saving items because it is virus. I do storage units for a living.. I'm also doing videos on here ..but I love your channel .. I started saving items that I found in my units . so I don't have to purchase them saves me a lot of money.. but I really would like that knife!
I had a bow saw bind up, jump out of the groove and cut across my finger. Not a fun knife and i've been a lot more careful with saws ever since, i definitely would cut across my lap for fear of cutting somethi g a little more important than a finger 😂😂
A few years ago I was given a Glock knife as a birthday present. I've enjoyed it quite a bit. Who wouldn't like THAT as a present! I took it to work daily, until I retired. Good video.
Great video, thank you. So I have a genuine request for you. I really appreciate all the videos you do when you take one item like hydrogen peroxide and go through so well on eveything it can be used for. Well, I was really hoping you could do one on bars of soap; potential uses and more specifically how to melt them down to reuse. All the videos I try to watch on repurposing bars of soap make everything to personalized, to creative, or to complicated. I can't stand it. Lol. Anyway, just an honest request. Your the best. i bought it just because the sheath lol i care more about the sheath in my survival knife than the blade so many good solid knives ruined by crappy sheaths
I like that signed collector. He was/is one of my favorite people that ever graced the screen.
R. Lee Ermy was a great man. His role in Full Metal Jacket was epic! lol! Thanks
FYI...when I click on the survival dispatch- it says page cannot be found?
Have the 81 in black for nearly 15 years now ... I always have it in my car :)
Greetings from Austria ;)
Thanks Felix! It's a solid knife for sure.
I have one at least for 4-5 years and it’s my only knife I trust. Best price for value and I would bet my life on that knife. Love the glock stuff. Greets from Germany.
Is it sharp on the blade too or just near the tip

I’ve had one in black since 1985. Great knife!
I remember buying one of those at the Ramstein AFB px over a decade ago, still have it, it's a great knife.
Awesome! Memories! 3 decades for mine.
Didn't think I would buy a Glock knife, but your video has changed my mind.
Had one since I was a little kid. Solid knives for a very fair price. What's not to like.
I have one of these in my vehicle. The saw teeth happen to be exactly the right tooth depth for cutting laminated windshield glass. I am sure that was not the intended purpose, but I have never found anything that cuts though windshields as good as that saw.

I always thought that a glock knife was just a cheap knife with a big name on it but now I might want to get one
Made in Austria quality at a Made in China price. Inexpensive, but not cheap.
@S A I'm one of those people who have a combat knife in the car in my Bob fishing pack so on

I get two each year at the Glock shoot at our range. Still have six and give others away. Great gift...
As always, great job! I just bought one in gray and now I want to get more, for bug out bags, vehicles, tool kits, etc.
Just got my Glock 81 today! It was razor sharp!
Just bought one from midway. Thank you for the review
That would have been awesome to meet Mr. Ermy before he passed. He was a cool guy!
Haven't been able to get a 78 model for awhile now, at least not in the US.
Did you try Buddy K?
Ebay

One of the older videos. Nice.
Thanks again for the video Don!
Churchill was talking about the Austrian field knife
I have one, good general purpose knife. Kind of knife I wouldn’t mind for hard use like prying. I believe I did a video on it too.
Just like that you got yourself a sub...ooorah!
@HOSTILE MGTOW kinda hard to figure out what he meant right? (Smh)

For the GLOCK knife with the flat (backside) spine, can you get sparks from that flat spine off a ferro rod?? For me, that would be a must!!
Great timing
I’m not an expert but would guess holes have something to do with mounting securely to bayonet mount.
I hate you for having more Glock knifes than I do!! (J/K) great review!

Have two, 1 serrated, 1not. However my go to is my service K-Bar. Fills my hand better.
