Shooting starlings is illegal to everyone suggesting the shotgun, but as they say, Its only illegal if ya get caught doing it so middle of the night job I'd say
Them Cow Brushes Look like a great job. Id be interested in one myself small operation I know but it seems to be a good way to keep cattle clean with no labour
A low cost (and potentially equally useless to the kite) thing you could try for starlings would be to put up a couple of owl houses on trees near the houses. If you managed to get an owl into the yard it would catch some and scare away more of them.
Extra wieghts on the automatic scraper would eliminate alot of the tripping. I was scraper surfing for past ten years til the weights consigned that sport to a distant memory.
If your scrapes are anything like mine they’ll be very worn out and theirs spaces in between the track and the concrete and they wear away after ab10 years of use, i welded 4 mm plate on to lift them up and they work all the time now and if it doesn’t swith over at the end weld a metal rod on the under side ofthe main scraper to lift it up a few mm and itll work a treat, we have them in our dairy barn and I’ve done more welding on them than the factory.
Really love watching Farmer Phil 😂 it's something we look forward to at the end of day 😙. Were still in lock down we hate it .We can't travel anywhere .We love Ireland 🌈 that's were we are going when we can travel . love to Ireland 🌈💚🌈🌈🌈🌈.We think you work so hard always looking after your cows . Happy New Year 💘☺️.
We set a banger up Phil and we have no problem with starlings now. We have 2 brushes for the bullocks and heifers one each. It makes a big difference to them being clean. Interesting video Phil
We have 65 angus weanlings along with the 120 dairy cows. To keep them clean we put down slat matts and by god the weanlings would be spotless aslong and the shit doesnt build up alot
FARMER PHIL you beef men only think you work hard, us dairy men especially winter milkers have the cows milked in the dark mornings and evenings this time of year.
Fragrance free Poo! That's a result it itself. Cattle love those cow brushes, great viewing watching them use it. Just set up the camera and let them entertain us, I reckon the bulls would be mad for it. Loft is looking great in the workshop. It might not feel like you have achieved much but those were some big winter projects and in a short space of time so I think you can mark that up as a success.
Great video Phil. You got a lot done in one day. I think there's just too much food for the starlings to eat in ur yard. U would need a real hawk to scare them away.
Welcome to Ireland where we are not perfect and things are left on long finger prob injured or smaller then he turns free range grate job not to be bullied
I've the same problem with 3 scrapers pushing into an open slurry pit with dairy cows. Some waste of time with milking cows during the spring. They'd be rotten. I've put up with it long enough and slurry channels is the only job I reckon. At least it'll never build up if electricity is gone or in the hard frost 10 years ago ,the scrapers froze solid and 4 days of 100 cows dung built up. Some balls to get going again.
Nice one Phil. The starlings are a nuisance for sure. Maybe a bring in someone with a trained hawk to let them know they are not welcome🦅. On the other hand, have you ever seen a starling murmuration, a remarkable phenomenon, check it out on RUclips. I agree with you about the straw blower and the dust, it couldn't be great. Could you not drive in with the loader and shake out the bale? Best wishes to all at team Phil for 2021
Good Morning, Phil! Thank you for the wonderful information. Wow, that was some driving with the stairs in tow. Nice job, Phil. The cattle certainly have grown since the last time weighed. Adrian (I Farm We Farm) put in LCD lights in his shed and the difference was remarkable.
Why don't yous park the feeder closer to the pit so you don't have so much driving/turning to do? If I were you, I'd reverse the feeder in so the back of it is facing the pit, then you'd only have a quarter turn to do and not a complete 180. Save a bit of time and less work for yourself.
We have a brush for are beef cattle and it dose keep them clean and there not as aggressive if u no what I mean they don’t get agitated when your in with them 🤙
If and when you replace the broken strip lights in the bires, led strip lights are great they are more expensive than the standard tubes but they pay for themselves after a year or 2 because of the money you save on electricity
We have the same problem with birds and we just shot a hood few and hung them up in the shed and it’s some job Tis only the odd few that have the balls to come back🤣🤣
Hi, We farm in the NOS and many years ago we had a massive starling problem every beam in the shed and trusses were covered in Starlings. I got so frustrated one day I got my sledge hammer and began to hammer one of the main supports the noise in the shed was amazing as the whole shed started to vibrate. The starlings went crazy flying into the walls etc trying to escape from the shed next day there were half the number of starlings, I did it again and the next day there were 10% of the starlings, I did it again and that was like 20 years ago and I have never seen a starling in the shed since and they do not even land on the shed roof. It may be worth a try with your problem, I was really mad and fed up with them so I did really whack the standcions of the shed. Regards, Peter Williamson
I should have stated that I did this when it was dark and there were no animals in the shed (except starlings nad maybe rats). The problem had been so bad that it was known locally in the farming community and a farmer asked me many years later how I solved the starling problem.
Get a few cats for the starlings, keep them a little hungry. Would suggest a rescue as they often have feral cats that they can't rehome as pets but are great ratters. Come spayed too.
Phil sister will be a loss if she heads off. She is a grate back up. How many wagons to you use in a day. Late watching late as usual. But always enjoy watching. Hope new year is good to you and yours 👍
The bugs prevent the crust from building up as much so should make it easier yes, would be hard to notice the difference tbh as it was probably agitated last a year ago
is there some sort of cheese clothe type material or lightweight bird netting (like they use for berry bushes) that can be hung to keep the birds at bay? still gives ventilation but no birds allowed?
Happy new year to u to lad......hope u and d family have a good 2021. At least beef prices is better than last year. Maybe u might put a ring on Liv's ginger this year because she's definitely a keeper and not a goal keeper!! U done well for urself there

Just get a airsoft rifle and shoot them in the shed and not make no noise or damage to the shed and you’ll have good crack as well
It’s not illegal in Northern Ireland
Do that and them around the shed and it will scare them away that's what we do
@@jackt783 good craic is the most important part of it!

@@FARMERPHIL3690 understandable. Old habits die hard. Must be why so many farmers son's have a hard time trying something different 😂

We have a gas banger going off every 15 mins to keep them disturbed but they keep coming back
1 way to get rid of starlings is kill a few then they will go then come back after ages but kill a few more then that's how to get rid of them
Why not make a thing like Tom pemberton. To push. Your Silage in be quicker. And easier Phil
3:40 need to get an angled plough type thing to push to silage up to save all that forward and reversing
Or a brush & shovel. Lol, not much manual labour on some farms..
Could have made something from the scrap.. 😁
Hope yer paying Jessica well. She's a mighty worker. So funny directing bro. Is it me or has bro shot up recently
