My solution to frozen pipes on the farm last week(Co. Clare). - Added a tee piece to where the pipe comes out of the ground. Add a shut-off valve to the tee-piece. Thaw the tee piece and valve every morning. Add hose reel to the shut-off valve and run hose to drinkers. Bring hose reel into house every night to stop it freezing. Simple but effective.
Great video - non farmers don’t realize the hardship frost brings!!
We had -22°c last week which wasn’t fun but manageable. All our waterers and pipes have heating in them which kept water flowing to all animals nicely. The 6280 barely starter up after 3 hours connected to block heater. Winter is expensive. 😂 But yeah get some heat cables and insulation for your pipes and that works well down to about -4 °c no need for heated waterers but below that it can be an issue. Good luck. 🍀
I have had drinkers freeze on me, the winters of 2009-2010 in NE Scotland was pretty full on! Some local farmers had the shed roof collapse under the weight of the snow and ice. It would snow all day and then freeze solid at night, was like that for weeks
Happy to help with the boar👍 Hopefully I'll be over for some bacon next year👌👌🤞🤞 Frost is some struggle. We all have pipes out in the open.🤦♂️They were all put in on sunny days🤣🤣
Some hardship in frosty weather for man and beast. Great work as always though Phil and Liv. Keep on keeping on.
A video on the top five things you would like to achieve around the farm over the next five years would be cool, even if its just small things 😁👍
Reminds me of when the pipes froze and i had to carry water from the spring to the yard with 3 gallen buckets, only 30 yards but 40 dairy cows did a lot of drinking.when i finished i had arms like an arangatang👍
Good video Phil
Phil the farmsca kip ud be better spending some time putting in better water supplies than pipes running up walls
Watching Yas here from onoway in Alberta -34 real feel-44 this morning,we have heated drinkers great job. it's not about the cold it's the stupid hardship that comes with it,use to be from cavan
Great video Phil and Liv the joys of cold weather conditions hopefully it won't last too long just as well them pigs didn't see your lunch plate 😂
Pure hardship when things freeze. Just when I see the beet harvester in background. Two MF 3125 with armour salmon harvesters lifting beet in co kilkenny today. 3690 drawing away. Rented ground beside homeplace but whoever it was has a love for the masseys like yourself. All well minded and purring away.
Had no problem with d water until Thursday nite as we left a tap on that was at the end of the line that was filling 5 small drinkers in each pin and we slowed down d flow from d well but -5 on Thursday nite froze everything even d well just a nightmare for 3 days adding at least 2 hours onto the workload each evening after d day job. Love d videos and the honesty of them thanks mike in Tipperary
We have had a rough week last week, frozen water, frozen slurry, frozen dairy and bloody hardship, noticed that you guys didn’t have any snow, well we did which didn’t help anyway we are back to normal this week wet windy and miserable, hope the boss man had a good time sunning himself for a few days!
Frost is a pain in the hole, id say most farmers in the country was drawing water , Father Phil planed that holiday well , Fair play to him, everyone needs a break 👍
Liv, you probably know this but make sure the goats get the best of the silage. Sheep and goats can be prone to listeria which can be fatal. Try some good hay instead if ye have some. I’m a sheep farmer and we are very careful what we feed to the sheep.
Our sheep eat the worst of bales you could give them there’s never a bother on them
It’s more so goats that aren’t meant to get silage than sheep
Haylige Is bad stuff for sheep
Enjoyed
Brilliant Video Phil, spent nearly all day fixing leaks at my mates farm, cattle drink one hell of a lot of water in one go, I don't have that problem I just turn all the sheep down on our river fields👍
When pipes freezes they are a pain in the hole to get going
Nice fry up🤠
We break feed dairy cow's during the winter on kale and never had to much lose from frosts, -2 to -10 average here in Methven, New Zealand. Snows the pain as it folds it over and crushes.
It's some hazzle with the water freezing, so I think the waterpipe needs to come onto the priority list :) But actually amazed the 62's started that easy, the Perkins 1006 was a pain in the butt getting going when it was cold... :)
It's -39C here in Northern Alberta, Canada this morning. -48C with the wind chill. Keeping the waterers unthawed here is a real challenge. 🥶
Wonderful view shots wonderful Phil and liv looking after all the animals.GodBless and Good Luck .☮️🥶🥶🥶🇮🇪🐶🐶🎅🎅🎅🎅🤶
The best farmers in the world.
Hi Phil I'm out wintering my Dexter cattle and I've been defrosting the water pipe for nearly a week, proper pain in the hole, I've actually stacked breeze blocks round the pipe and filled the holes in them with straw and it has really helped, keep up the good work, looking forward to the beet lifting video, a contractor near use had an Armour Salmon belt lifter years ago, good machine unless the tops got juicey.
Ya that frost was inconvenient was lucky did leave a tap running at night did help didn't have to drow water
Great video again Phil and liv 👌👍
Last week it was between -3 and -13°C Here in Germany. 2 little sheds the drinkers were Frozen. Years ago I welded Metal Water troughs. Using a IBC Container and bringing Water with the Schäffer works Out fine.
Absolute fuckin torture for 6 days there from Tuesday to Sunday getting water to 150 animals. Never wish for a wet mild day as much!! Great team work 💪
Ibc and an ald electric blanket.... just a thought for future... Nice work on the vid as it bloody hard work in the cald ...😄 stay safe 🏴
I remember the winter of 2010 pipes froze in my neighbours yard had to bail water from the lake to keep all stock going thankfully it's was only two sheds but it was still tough going
I seen you passing the potato harvester in your video, a machine i always liked you probably have the potato dug by now, a good video as always
We had drinkers froze at home. Had one water tap still going so filled 1000 litre cube and added it to each diet feeder. Had still to carry water but not that much
Winter wonder Land, super footage..got to get the Canadian water system.
Thought that was a classical singer at 1217 for a minute. Lol.
We have a littel system what runs water true a pump what heats the water to a point and runs it true the water lines
It was a normal thing to have happen when we had cattle in Sweden when the temp dropped towards -20. Then it frose inside the barn. But that could be helped by rigging it so that the water always flowed. Combined with insulated pipes it worked most of the time.
Nice aerial shots of the farm
L for got to say Happy Christmas 🎄, hope yous have a good one kieran from Laghey donegal town
Great video Phil and liv Bruce is a fine pig jaysus a lot of work goes into getting the animals their water hope uncle Ian is doing ok
it was minus 24 here in Ontario today 31/1/23. Thats cold but we are use to that weather.
You should make that vid of the list of things you want done around the farm that you mentioned at the end of the vid. You'll deffo work through it if you get people on your case looking for updates to finish stuff off 🤣.
good tip when u give cattles milk please use human temperature water so no diarrea
Last week was -9 this wk 13 degrees strange weather lol
Beautiful drone shots.
Here in northwest of Sweden, we have -24 celsius last week
Goodman phil, another interesting video, keep them coming,
When chopping out silage with the big shear grab if you only push in half way then shut the grab a bit then open and push in the rest of the way the grab will fall off in smaller lumps when you open it over the feeder
Good video farmer pill and liv
Great video Phil as always 👌
I’d love to see a video of your future plans for the farm, which direction you would like to head in and what you would do if money wasn’t an option.
Nice video, that was some frost
A little tip sure you probably know. Circulation pump on the water.good luck in the cold weather from Andoy northern 🇳🇴
Deadly job Phil 👍, a man for all seasons💨
Great video
Speaking as a Retired Thermal insulation Engineer.. Having Formed My own Business Whitchurch Insulations.. Insulate and No Froze Pipes etc.
Well done Liv. It’s not easy.
Cracking video as always. Great drone footage. Yourself and liv make a great team. The dynamic duo
My father reminiscing about having to break the ice on the river with a crow bar and turn the cattle down to it for a drink.
Your a hard working couple great to see ,enjoy watching your videos .Peter clarke
That was a busy day.
Extra cold weather phil &liv still busy
Oh god, you brought back bad memories, frozen water bowls.
Another great video Phil @ liv 👍👍
Great vid
Well farmer phil, great video 📹 yea very hard frost indeed, love ur videos as aways, kieran from Laghey donegal town
Bloody cold, great work you 2
The 6480 and load still looks sorry for itself
Isn't there something about frozen rape leaves being bad for the cattle? I dunno I think I remember reading something sometime.
There is yes only found out when Goldcrop came that day but luckily the hay we were feeding was keeping them safe
Frost bloody night mare
Amazing drone shots 👌🏻 what a country we live in
Heat Tracing would be simple fix for your frozen leg of pipe.
Thought you couldn't graze frozen rape because of increased Nitrate in plant!
We only learned about the dangers of grazing frozen rape when gold crop came that day but luckily we were feeding hay before the frost and that saved us from losing any cattle to it
Hi Phil, Have a look at "Dale farm" recant video Nick done some handy inclating with water pipe s, ☺️
whehad id always frozen whe put ah heating pump inside de line zo de line dousnt freeze
Trace Heating for frost free flow.
I love seeing more and more of Liv. 😊
I fed 32 shippon every cow with water when neck tied up and all other pens + sheep the good old days ive angina and cant work at 55
Lucky enough the frost wasn't too bad here this year, drinkers outside did freeze but we were able to break them to allow for drinking during the day. in previous years we have had the pipes freeze going to sheds. Don't use the small drinking troughs for that reason. Use a 1000L ibc to refill where needed. This is filled from the working taps and will fill the troughs in the sheds. Just stick it on the pallet forks and drain straight down into the drinkers .Let it drain out empty at night and away we go again the next day. luckily enough the troughs are big enough that they can all get enough and arent waiting too long.
we have done what you do with a big tank in the holding yard and fill this and let the cattle to it. Have a large water drinker on the passage to the yard and would fill this and just let the cows out the passage for an hour or so to to drink. Once they have had their fill they want to go back into the shed.
We had no cattle drinker frozen
Meanwhile father phill is sitting in his shorts and flip flops
Or lying back without shorts and flip flops roasting the onions!
Good to see the boar arrive ..👍🏻
All cows kept water but parlour froze even after draining it and the house had no water which was fun
Dont worry about water for a week or so Just stop feeding meal no problem
I have had none frezzing up on me nore the parlour TOUCH WOOD 😬😬😬
The won't be much leaves left on the beet for pulling after that frost
Have you tried putting plastic owls on poles to deter the starlings
i have we grounded out our welder on the pipes
Yes every 1 of them for a week
Full time job water in this weather but back to mud now 😂
Are frosty brassicas safe for cattle to eat, I know beet can’t be fed if frozen?
dont feed frozen
lot of frozen beet eaten round here last week ............
Sure must have well most farms have or brooke cheaper then metre moo moo ⛄
you might try heat rap around the pipes
Phil have ye a Massy parked up there in the yard? Is it broken down or what? It looks like a fresh enough tractor
It is yes problem with the injector pump
Ah ok, fresh looking tractor, wouldn't take much to get going but time I suppose, hopefully the frost is gone it's mild down here in cork, happy Christmas to ye all. Keep up the good work, love the videos always
I think you might want to be better prepared as you will probably start to see more weather like this.
Hi Phil I saw the zetor in the background and I'm just wondering how is it going
Not very well😂
Phil I no tye way we gave four days drawing with tankers for water
Frozen water pipes are a real ball ace cattle only wreck troughs
Yea froze drinkers , but I still rather the frost than wind and rain
Is that an old zetor in the yard there farmer Phil?
It is yes 8011
