Hi Phil, I have a narrow passageway like that, and I use a McHale bale splitter on the front of the loader. It does a great job for me. Start at 1 end and split the bales as you work down. After splitting the bale you can give each half a nudge to the left and right and work your way down the passageway that way.
Hustler bale feeders are great have 2. Can get the chained feeder that can go on the loader and 3 point linkage. Interesting video get ringworm on cattle here in Australia at the start of summer
Hi Phil and Liv, I'm Michael's sister and Bob's niece, just to verify! Love the channel and appreciate your hard work. A few old rhymes or tales for you - Frost in November, Mud in December. Ash before the Oak is a summer of fire and smoke, Oak before the Ash is a summer of splash and dash. Never knew about the ringworm and holly. Thanx. Zoe
Phil just noticed the silage bales seemed to have sagged a lot this year, any reason for it? Saw it with a few other farmers too, just curious. Thanks john
Well Phil I used a hustler one and it’s a brilliant job for your setup and you can put it on the tractor and you hav a spike on it to load yourself and the bale will roll both ways
Mackerel sky mackerel sky not long wet and not long dry ..When you hear the first cuckoo of spring turn the coins in your pocket over and they will double over the year.😀
Hi Phil. We have a narrow passage way and bale unroller works fine. We have to unroll both side going foward and it works every time. Great job a lot less graping.
I've worked on a lot of farms over the years doing concrete and the Holly works from every farmer I have talked to and it is something to do with the fungus as it dies and it will last 2 or 3 years before you have to change it.
Hi, yes ringworms. When I was a boy growing up on the family farm in North Devon, we had ringworm problems, lots of it. I caught it a few times. Later my Dad was taught how to “Bless “ them. And it seemed to work, the ringworm would go, old wife’s tales or what but yes they did go, the ringworm. So the holly could be the same. Good Luck To You All. Clifford
Is there much farming jobs in Ireland nowadays? Im coming back from 10 years farming in Australia but now I'm hearing farmers aren't doing much farming in Ireland, that's crazy to me, Maybe you have a job for me Phil?😂
Hi Phil. Virkon s works great. And super fast. Just put 1 small pack in a weed sprayer. The type you put on your back. And spray on the animals. Ps. It doesnt hurt the eyes. Best regards Jacob.
Hustler bale unwinder serious job will feed both sides and bale will unroll both ways with the spikes on the bars. Have one 3 years on a teleporter feeding brilliant bit of kit
Hi Phil, the most effective method to kill ringworm is antifungal and natural sunlight but if the Holly works it to is an antifungal you are right the dust from the dyeing plant does the job. Great video always enjoy your videos nice seeing Liv.
The fungus survives in timber, so getting rid of the timbers in that feed barrier will mean no spores there for next years weanlings at least. We've no holly, minimal ringworm. Ringworm usually runs its course in a couple of months and the cattle build immunity to it no matter what you do. Sure holly costs nothing anyway!
Had ringworm in cattle years ago, then it disappeared but it the last two years it has shown up a bit again. May go look for a holly tree tomorrow. Any chance of Berty cam again?
I have been putting up holly for years and I was in Switzerland years ago and told an old farmer that I meet about it even went with him to get a branch or two ( easier said than done in the alps) and hung it over his calves, I think he just went along with it to be polite, anyway about six months later I got a letter with a half a dozen photos of his cattle with no ringworm, he was delighted and said he didn’t know how it worked but it worked and he had gone through years of hardship trying to get rid off ringworm but it was in his house and regardless of what he did he could not prevent his calves from getting it this summer I was back in Switzerland and visited many farms up and down the country and not all but most farms I was in had a bunch of holly tied up somewhere, didn’t see a calf with ringworm anywhere.
Phil, I suggest you pull that one and keep it separate from the rest of the herd. Last thing you want is it for the rest to get it. Yes, the Holly works Phil. Do it now, quickly as possible. Ringworm is nothing to joke about. When I raised beef cattle when I took over the farm, was taught to get holly and hang it. To be honestly, never ever had ringworm. I wish you the best at nipping this ringworm in the butt. Fungus's can get away rather quickly if not careful. People can get ringworm as well so be careful with it, same with pink eye. I don't know where my Grand dad got it but, when I was knee high to a grasshopper, he planted several Holly's on his 15 acre homestead. You might check around and plant a few bushes of each for future. You never know what the future has in store for us humbled farmer folk. Phil, I don't know if you have "Vermeer" in your country, I'm sure you do but, look into their bale shredders/feeder. It's like a tub grinder and feeds on one side. Cheers :)
I had Wring worm when I was a teenager. Must have picked it up from the cattle. Doctors gave me a cream after 3 weeks had done feck all. Are get was visiting and said he had gotten it several times and told me he took some of the acid we used to clean the parlour and heavily dilute it. Then dab it on twice a day. It was gone in 3 days.
I farmed 20 years in France and it's exactly the same thing. I don't know why but the holly does seem to cure ringworm and it pains me for my scientific education that I can't explain it 😂
When we are lambing and a ewe becomes ill we feed them ivy normally poisonous so we have been told but others told us to feed them as much as possible clears the toxins wives tales but sometimes works worth a try with the holly, loving the videos👍👍
When the sheep came in grandad would have us kids pull as much Ivy as possible out of the hedges and off the trees he said it was for the minerals in it
Adrian I farm we farm is happy with using the ivy so it must be good, Lads be really careful yee don't pick it up yer self's, its a horrible thing to make a long story short
10 out of 10 Holly is a great way to cure ringworm I've seen Tom Pemberton use it and I've seen many others here in the states we use salt licks and mineral blocks as always enjoy your videos
Well, put it this way. What harm can hanging a branch of holly up in the shed do? If it works, it works. If it doesn't, then at this time of year, you can always say that you decorated the shed for Christmas! It seems to me that for whatever reason, it works, so it is definitely worth a try.
Yes bale unroller will feed to both sides. It will feed heavily on one side and not on the other because of the way the bale is made. Ivomec for the ringworm.
A mchale bale splitter like I farm we farm has would work very well in that shed and just leave the 6480 over at that shed and you can push up the silage with the loader
phlegm potassium iodine disinfectant clean the sheds and water drinkers and sunlight something about plenty of direct access to sunshine helps clear up ringworm chances are you have it and so do your family dude.
On the Internet they say the same about devine Roding is not science based. But I know for a fact it works. Not sure if there something about feeding ivy but touch wood ringworm has stayed out of my shed to.
Surprised you dont use the tele with the bucket shear thought that was set up to cut silage bales? as for the unwinder, i would not recommend them unless you have a hydraulic top link. Bought one a few years ago and it didnt work well with silage bales, especially any that were a bit wet. The unit needs to be level for it to work but also high enough that it doesn’t catch underneath. could be used on a loader front end but are quite heavy so probably not ideal for the small tele. i would not recommend any from the company in NI that makes them (not going to mention their name) as it had a fundamental design flaw and the support from the company was very poor. Traded it for a mower and as far a I know the place that took it in had it in there lot for another few years. They work ok with hay or straw. How we do the bales is to use the loader to “unwind” the bales along the barrier. I drop the bale on the flat end and take off the netting (same as you did in the video) then flip the bale on its round side and pull it backwards with loader and this un-rolls the bale. Depending on how far I want it to cover I can make it cover 1-2 bays or even 3 bays with one bale. Once the cattle have it cleared down to floor I push the reaming amount to the barrier with loader a day or 2 later. Saves a hell of a lot graping (or piking as we call it down south). Takes a bit or practice but once you figure out how to do it you won’t change. Think of it like how you roll a bale of straw around a bedded shed for the calves.
Hi Phil,
I have a narrow passageway like that, and I use a McHale bale splitter on the front of the loader. It does a great job for me. Start at 1 end and split the bales as you work down. Amen to this... you should look into one Phil. Cheers :)
Hustler bale feeders are great have 2. Can get the chained feeder that can go on the loader and 3 point linkage. Interesting video get ringworm on cattle here in Australia at the start of summer
Hi Phil ,Why didn't you put holly in the calf shed when you first saw it, You should learn to nip the problem in the Bud.
Think with a good wide passage bale unroller would save a lot of graping.
Ive a bale shear,Nugent, but leave a lot of graping
Hi Phil and Liv, I'm Michael's sister and Bob's niece, just to verify! Love the channel and appreciate your hard work. A few old rhymes or tales for you - Frost in November, Mud in December. I've learnt so much since following phills video's it's an education for sure
Hi Phil ya it works some people also brush on burned oil on the patches
Phil just noticed the silage bales seemed to have sagged a lot this year, any reason for it? Saw it with a few other farmers too, just curious. Thanks john
Well Phil I used a hustler one and it’s a brilliant job for your setup and you can put it on the tractor and you hav a spike on it to load yourself and the bale will roll both ways
Was in a pharmacy once which also does herbal remedies, they had a treatment for fungal infection, made from holly leaves.
Mackerel sky mackerel sky not long wet and not long dry ..When you hear the first cuckoo of spring turn the coins in your pocket over and they will double over the year.😀
I think it’ll work we did it years ago and seemed to clear it up on cattle
You're supposed to ask the tree if you can take the branches first.
Yes Phil it works just ask Adrian at i farm we farm better watch the holly over the bed can never be sure where the prickly leaves would end up😂
Would you not try a cashels bale slice it grabs the plastic and net and cuts the bale in half great job they make feeding bale so much easier
Hi Phil. We have a narrow passage way and bale unroller works fine. We have to unroll both side going foward and it works every time. Great job a lot less graping.

Yea ,unrolled super job
6 winters going here now with a bridgeway unwinder
11 foot passage ,can go left and right
Is there much farming jobs in Ireland nowadays?

Maybe you have a job for me Phil?😂
Plenty of farmers out there looking for lads......but it's the money is the issue, they are too mean to give it
Vegetables oil or olives oil
Holly does work as will waste oil from a diesel engine. Just brush it on with a paint brush. Will clear up in a few weeks.
Oil is carcinogenic. Would you leave it on your own skin for a week.
? Cop on ffs
problem with oil is that its a cariogenic, not sure any one want that in their food
Hi Phil. Virkon s works great. And super fast. Just put 1 small pack in a weed sprayer. The type you put on your back. And spray on the animals. Ps. It doesnt hurt the eyes. Best regards Jacob.
yeah bail unrollers are a top job you can unroll most bails both ways but 90 percent of the tip they will go both ways the hustler ones are the best
Great job Phil. Yes its the male Holly, without berries and it takes a few months atleast before it starts to have an effect. Lasts for years tho 👌
Five years 👍
Hustler bale unwinder serious job will feed both sides and bale will unroll both ways with the spikes on the bars. Have one 3 years on a teleporter feeding brilliant bit of kit
I farm in Cornwall .I've got some one that will charm the ring worm and it works .

Phil, ivy keeps ringworm at bay...but it must be growing.
Sudocream is a great job for ring worm
Did you see the bale slicer by Adrain on I Farm We Farm, would be a good job in you're outfarm
Had ringworm in cattle years ago, then it disappeared but it the last two years it has shown up a bit again. May go look for a holly tree tomorrow.

Imaverol is the spray for ring worm. You can spray it on the faces as they’re eating meal, it won’t affect there eyes. It will help clear it up
Piseog
Not piss strokes or piss oaks
4:46 and 11:22😂😂😂
Holly Works well . The other one I heard was put back polish on the effected area 😅
Great Job Philip

We've been doing it for 12 years it's been up since an no ringworm since and we used to have it every year, it has to be male Holly with no berries
I farmed 20 years in France and it's exactly the same thing. I don't know why but the holly does seem to cure ringworm and it pains me for my scientific education that I can't explain it 😂
If you try roll it out with the fork it may be easier
Great Vid again Phil nice to see the boss out with you.
Phil do u get much of a draught through the shed, I see its well aired ,
Holly works, my Great Aunty swore daily but she was dead on with Ring Worn and Holly hanging in the sheds
Phil the hastler would suit u there Johnston farm equipment have therm they are a great job
We have a Hustler SL350 for years fed thousands of bales with it great machine bought in Johnstons in Longford. Can feed a bale either way through it.
When we are lambing and a ewe becomes ill we feed them ivy normally poisonous so we have been told but others told us to feed them as much as possible clears the toxins wives tales but sometimes works worth a try with the holly, loving the videos👍👍
ivy not poisonous ..............
@@georgedoorley5628 It is.
When the sheep came in grandad would have us kids pull as much Ivy as possible out of the hedges and off the trees he said it was for the minerals in it
@@tristangibbs2351 He was an idiot.
The gator looks nice and clean!
Bale roller is a great job and you can go either side extremely flat bales don’t roll well at all
Holly worked for me last year.
yes it works Phil but as you said it has to be a male holly
Works 100 percent. Has to be the male bush the one with no Berry's.
Yes it works
Why don't you use sher grab split the bale in half
Great video. Keep up the good work.
Hi Phil does last year’s holly work or do you need to put up new holly ever year
A tip on feeding balls. You open the bales the right way feed the bales out on flat than on end
How long before you get results from the holly
6 months
Adrian I farm we farm is happy with using the ivy so it must be good, Lads be really careful yee don't pick it up yer self's, its a horrible thing to make a long story short
It’s not superstitious the male holly the leaves contain an antidote powder for the Ringworm fungal spores 😝
10 out of 10 Holly is a great way to cure ringworm I've seen Tom Pemberton use it and I've seen many others here in the states we use salt licks and mineral blocks as always enjoy your videos
Canning farms on youtube has a bale unroller and a few videos on it
Turn at end and feed out of one side with bale unwinder
It absolutely does not work or it certainly didn't for us on different occasions. We found high zinc buckets do the trick.
100 per cent works phil

Yes bale unroller will feed to both sides. It will feed heavily on one side and not on the other because of the way the bale is made. Ivomec for the ringworm.
Hi Phil you need a bale splitter the same as Adrian on I farm we farm
And ivy is used against i think pneumonia!
Great stuff phil brillant video
Great Video
Well Philip, id say blue stone would help kill ringworm 🤔
Mchale bale splitter perfect for shed.
to stop the scawers in baby cows give them ash from a log fire in the milk
A mchale bale splitter like I farm we farm has would work very well in that shed and just leave the 6480 over at that shed and you can push up the silage with the loader
there used to be a white powder used to mix it in with corn and oats digest it cant remember the name
Fulcin?
@@ianthomas6656 thanks thats it
Hi Phil love the videos 😊what was the music 48 seconds in please 🙏
Insta video sent of the unroller
Put a few ml only like 5-10 of iodine in water tanks every day for a few weeks it will soon be gone then
Put burnt oil it will clear it
Would you put burnt oil on your face for a week ? It’s carcinogenic
Good stuff.. the 7th son is another good 1
Salt blocks will help cure the ringworm also.
It's the male Holly watch out with berries if ducks and poultry are in the pen with Holly trees above
A cloth and burnt oil an it will be gone, put on the affected area an it will clear up in a few days
If you get your hands on a hustler bale unroller you can do both side without graping we have 1 for the past 4 years and never use a grap😊
Seal up your small doors. It will cut down drafts. Will help to keep calves right.
Great video Liv & Phil. I say yes to holly. Enjoyed watching. 👍🏼👍🏼
Well Phil ye wouldn’t have an old silage grab lying around I find a grab the best for putting in bales no much work to be doing afterwards
Rear bale spliter u need
Surely you can move the sick animal to isolation away from a pen with 30 others.
Ya and a pen where it would be easy for it to eat and try and block up the door sum bit
phlegm potassium iodine disinfectant clean the sheds and water drinkers and sunlight something about plenty of direct access to sunshine helps clear up ringworm chances are you have it and so do your family dude.
Idione in the water for ringworm
Hi Phil, try a 2% solution of Iodine for ringworm.
We feed sea weed on silage sorted ringworm do it every winter now no ring worm now
Looking forward to see dose the holly work or would you be as much use pissing on them 😂😂😂
Don't knock it till you try it, 😒
Garlic granules for horses kills fungus don't know if you can buy it in 25kg bags or not .
Hi farmer Phil that was a great job with your fresion cattle and keep up the good work with them 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
The McHale bale splitter would be ideal for that, not too expensive either
not sure about old wives tale but mares/horse tail has anti fungal properties
On the Internet they say the same about devine Roding is not science based. But I know for a fact it works.
Not sure if there something about feeding ivy but touch wood ringworm has stayed out of my shed to.
