Even though they are technically TV specials, I would rate the History of Trunks and the Bardock special higher than everything else. They had more depth than any of the other films imo

It also helps that they are easily placeable in canon

Watching Dragon Ball Super: Broly in theaters with my brother and fellow DB nerds is definitely one of my favorite moviegoing experiences ever. Everyone cheering and clapping as Vegeta went into Super Saiyan God form still makes me smile
God I remember how everybody cheered when that happened at my theater. And when Gogeta showed up, the whole final fight, everybody was cheering to the point where we all started chanting along with the music.
"GO! BROLY! GO! BROLY! GO! BROLY! GOGETA! GOGETA! GOGETA!"
and he put A TIER AHHAAHHAHAAH
Absolutely loved Cooler's Revenge. The voice acting plus the soundtrack puts it in the top 5 for me
Yea I loved Coolers movies and when he said it was bad I knew this video and his opinion was trash as hell
@@CTRLDelta exactly. I completely agree with you
Fr
@@CTRLDelta its an opinion
@@tiagogo Yeah, terrible opinions.
Not putting Broly in S-Tier should be a war crime. That is the best Dragon Ball has ever looked.
“Action went on a smidge too long” is a criminal’s verdict.
It’s just his opinion
@@Brooklyn_Battler and we are voice our opinions as well we aren’t harassing him or anything just stating our point
@@3headedsnake388 he says that but seriously the whole first half of the movie is seriously just them talking so you can know Broly and the rest of the characters. So to me the fighting and the story part was well even
No it isnt
Super Broly was hands down the most enjoyable cinema experience i ever had. It had a limited run in german theaters and tickets had to be preordered, so everyone who sat in that room with me was a big fan of Dragon Ball.
My jaw was on the floor constantly with this movie. Yes it is mostly just a huge spectacle and fight scenes but i cant overstate how much fun it was, seeing everyone around me enjoy and being amazed at what they are watching. The big screen and loud sound speakers really sold the power of these characters. When me and my friends walked out of the theater we looked at each other and we all had that huge smile on our faces. It felt like returning to our childhoods again, where we watched the show together on tv after school.
So yeah, its the movie theater experience that bumps this film into S tier for me personally.
Same also watched it in Germany and there were a lot of people coming into the theater with Goku and Vegeta Gear. This was such a good experience. I was mega hyped for the movie and it managed to surpase my expectations.
Very much agree. Not my favorite movie of all time but by far my favorite to see in-theaters.
It was such a great experience! I remember people were cheering and standing up during some scenes. It felt like watching a sports match rather than a movie
Facts on top of facts. I can't believe he put it in A tier and gave BOG and Super Hero S tier. That's some seriously strong shi he's smoking.
Same its funny that I also dislike Resurrection F for too many fight scenes but I love Super Broly because it is really one big fight.
Wasn't expecting such slander on Cooler's Revenge. Definitely A tier for me at least
Fusion Reborn is my favorite Dragon Ball Movie. Janemba is really cool and the relationship between Goku and Vegeta is one of the best parts
Me too! Apparently during the manga Super Buu saga Toriyama was planning to have fusion for Goku and Vegeta using fusion dance but it would interfere with this movie so that was why Potata ended up being an alternate fusion technique.
(I did not appreciate the indication that -at least according to elder Kai and Super Buu- Gogeta-or the fusion of Goku and Vegeta using fusion dance- would not be able to beat Super Buu Gohan absorbed). I dunno seems kinda like a a dig at the Movie😅😅
I don’t care what anyone says. I LOVED Cooler’s Revenge. It’s probably bias, since it was my introduction to the Dragon Ball franchise along with the Budokai games. That transformation scene with Goku reviving the bird still remains as one of my all time favorite Dragon Ball moments, especially in the English dub where they added “Change” by Deftones to that scene. Hell, that scene even made my mom into an albeit very casual DBZ fan. I also really liked Cooler, even as a kid. His final form was/is dope.
I too personally enjoyed Cooler's Revenge and except for Bio Broly, all other Films are fun to watch even if plot is repetitive or ridiculous.
I had no idea they did that in the dub. That’s sick!
I love these films, it seems we’ll never run out of anime enthusiasts shitting on DBZ because the story isn’t to their standards.
I personally don’t like My Hero Academia but you don’t see me watching every episode and film. I personally think people only shit on DBZ retroactively to seem smarter and more elitist.
I fucking love Goku's transformation in that movie.
Cooler revenge was awesome . Mark is smoking that good shit if he thinks otherwise
Even though it is a TV Special, History of Trunks is an easy S tier for me! It holds the key to what I believe is truly missing in Dragonball....Stakes of losing people.
Goat movie, goat opinion
precisely!
it is that exactly what puts it very high
I think it adds a lot to the Androids as villians. You get to see what the world would be like if they won.
Everybody vs Frieza on namek is my favorite fight and one of the biggest reasons is that it has the highest stakes of any fight until the universe survival arc, and the fight itself was executed better than anything in super.
History of trunks was SSS tier!
Super Broly was just a straight experience man. Sure most of the big pros come from the sheer spectacle and artistry of the movie but it didn't slack on characterisation and general narrative either.
It established, build on and executed it's characters well and gave you reason to care before breaking out into one of the longer, but incredible to watch almost pure action sequence I've seen.
Was blown away the first time I saw it.
Do agree the fighting drags a little bit and personally I would have wanted to see a liiittle bit more on the plot/character side but all in all I'd give that shit like a 8.5-9.
Just so fucking fun.
Hoy
agree. It was the first time in a cinema that I've been in that the energy was literally palpable. I wanted to cheer and so many in the cinema DID. It was intense.
Z broly better
@@kazyvad3962 eh, the only great part about Z Broly was the fight and that was only great until the climax that was just a bit goofy
Brolys a raging manchild but without any depth to him (not saying super broly is shakespeare but it makes him an actual character that is a bit of a manchild) and Goku beating him with a single punch though well animated was a bit anti climactic for me
@@walter4180 he's not actually any deeper than z broly
took my friends to see DBS Broly in the theater and neither of them were big dragon ball fans, but we all absolutely LOVED IT. We loved the characters, the humor was spot-on, and even though the fight scene was long it was incredible and we loved every second of it.
Took my family to see Super Hero and funnily enough we were the only ones in the whole theater complex, but we enjoyed the heck out of it. I was worried about the quality of the 3d computer animation a bit, and while it wasn't nearly as good as Broly's it was still very very good. The story is so much fun and very enjoyable, plus the fights were spectacular.
I think Broly (2018) is the only one you got wrong, it should be S tier. Even though I prefer our old Bardock.
Facts and dbs bardock>>>
If you read the manga yk
Nah dbs broly definitely has it's issues. It's a B tier for me. The animation is cool and all but everything else just feels pretty boring, most of it is like filler. Also the fight is just dragged out TOO long and also there were a few plot holes and questionable choices made in this film.
I like dbs bardock better I just wish he had an on screen dialogue with frieza
Literally, it's some of the best fight scene animation in the entire global 2D industry... 100% should be S tier rofl
@@mrchris8005 disagreed, put a B tier on it that doesn’t make any sense with the astronomical ups of it.
Goku crying being a trigger for OG Broly always came off as dumb to me too. Until recently a friend pointed out that Goku crying was just that...a trigger. Everything bad that happened to him he associates with Goku crying. Getting stabbed with a blade, being left for dead with his father, resulting in his father mentally abusing and manipulating him. OG Broly is a tragic character with PTSD. And hearing Masako Nozawa cry brings back his trauma.
I mean sure, insanely valid but I’m not sure why he would hate Goku as a result. He never saw Goku. He just heard him. You know who he did see the face of as he was stabbed? Vegeta. You know who his father most definitely let him know exiled them and caused this all? Vegeta.
How could he have even heard the name Kakarot in the first place?
@3 headed snake isn't that why Paragus hated Vegeta? Z Broly is just triggered by Gokus crying because he's basically an autistic saiyan (and I genuinely believe he was written with the premise of "what if a saiyan was mentally handicapped", he has power limiters, and doesn't speak very often. As he gets more powerful his reasoning is just non-existant)
If they actually used that in the film, it would much better
@@3headedsnake388 he heard kakarot from the nearby saiyans in the nursery...
Another thing that might be headcanon is that maybe him being legendary super saiyan has a side effect of him being emotionally unstable. Like, having all the power has a negative effect on his mind.
@@slinkyslink5161 the fact that the word KAKAROT is the trigger is the dumb factor, I know he had certain conscience as a baby but the fact he analyzed the convo of 2 nurses and went "OMG THIS CRYING, OMG HIS NAME IS KAKAROT, KAKAROOOOOT" is so dumb, if Broly got psycho everytime he heard crying it would be better, also would expand paragus struggle do control him since a pair of genocidal sayians would cause a lot of crying
I disagree with your thoughts on the Cooler movies. He isn't a boring character at all. However, I do agree with you on every other film. You brought out some interesting points on some that I didn't even think about. At any rate, to be sure, Dragonball Z has had some hits and misses when it's come to the films.
Super Hero ranked higher than Super Broly is crazy
This video was released a couple of weeks after SuperHeros debut. I believe recency bias played a part in its ranking.
@@majinkebab6879 Gotta be some STRONG recency bias. Super Hero is like a B for me. Think about Broly/Frieza vs Hedo/Cell Max as antagonists. Frieza is always fun to watch and Broly had some real character development. I had to google Hedo's name because of how forgettable he was and Cell Max was just a brainless thing that they killed relatively quickly.
The fight that lasted like half the movie in Broly is probably the best fight in Dragon Ball history.
Not to mention the backstory for the Saiyans was awesome to see reworked and it made so much sense. Where the broader plot for Super Hero was meh. New transformations felt completely unearned too.
hes just an idiot for his placement of the brolly movie, which is considered to be the best dragon ball movie EVER by most fans.

All I can say about Cooler, is that while he may be boring, his movies got us some of the best material TeamFourStar ever made.
Damn I wish they’d just come back and do the Buu saga, it’s my favorite arc, I even love the slice of life stuff with Gohan at school, and wish we’d gotten more of that.
Cooler isn't boring though. Just because Mark says he is doesnt mean he is.
I mean the way he tanks Goku shots, he was like an original broly. He had interesting henchmen and that Salsa vs Piccolo fight is fire
and that mask!

Imma plant me a dumbass tree! What a great great line from the TFS version
@@bryanu1737 yyyyeah... Honestly "big stronk hunk of muscles that hits hard and doesn't flinch until the story needs him to" isn't really a compelling character. And his characterization is literally just "freezer but more boring", it's completely derivative except from that tidbit at the beginning when he's all smugly like "i told you".
@@endeav0r_49 I think you could also say that Cooler wasn't really part of his own movie. He injures Goku, then his henchmen do everything until he shows up. Now, you can say the same about Frieza, but love it or hate it, the fight with Frieza took up an entire arc/box set, so there's plenty of him doing his own dirty work.
Fusion Reborn has always been my top movie in terms of pure fun factor, which is what I would be going to a Dragonball movie for. Really looking forward to seeing Super Hero in August.
My favorite movie, second favorite is world’s strongest ocean dub version.
@Fenrir W comment right here. As long as they don’t start overdoing it with the mindless villains 💯
@Fenrir It's not always a bad thing but a story objectively has less going on if the antagonist doesn't have personality or motivation. Sometimes the rest of the work can carry it, which is definitely the case of Fusion Reborn, not necessarily for the Broly sequels.
@Fenrir I also feel like there's a bit of bias there. He's more lenient with the newer movies. Him using the silent personality to put Fusion Reborn in A tier yet ignores that the main villain of Super Hero is Cell Max, who doesn't even speak at all and yet puts the movie in S tier(above the Broly movie) is something I think alot of people would disagree with.
Plus the ROF Movie was imo a C-tier movie. Nothing about that movie keeps my eye. The transformations look and are underwhelming, the victories are short, and it's mainly fighting with little to no story. The scaling is dumb also. I wouldn't put it in D however because some of the transformation sequences like Vegeta going SSB and Frieza going golden are awesome
Why does it feel like Mark spent the whole time criticizing the 90s movie as if they had double the runtime and said all the moments I liked in them were the weakest parts? Seems a bit unfair since the 90s movies had to be one-offs while Battle of Gods got to set up so much because those elements were going to be expanded on later.
I love how Mark literally pointed out in the vid that these are only his personal opinions and even made a joke out of how people will act like, if you hate something they love, you've disgraced their family line and, if you read the comments, people are literally doing just that.
the irony is so intense, I can't shit anymore.
Things I liked about some of the lower-ranked movies:
- I liked Cooler, Android 13, and Bojack’s designs, they just look so unique to me.
- Even though Raft of the Dragon was supposed to be Trunks and Tapion’s story, I didn’t think Goku saving the day ruined it for me. Since the Dragon Fist was Goku’s first original move and just looked cool with the best animation possible at the time, I excused that one negative.
Goku: "If I don't, who will?"
Me: *gestures back to the kid with the magic sword that the whole movie was focused around*

In World's Strongest what does it for me is all the throwbacks man. It's so nostalgic watching it today. Goku vs Piccolo, Gohan and Piccolo's wholesomeness, Kaioken x4 throwback to Vegeta fight, Gohan's rage vs Raditz, Master Roshi fighting, etc. The animation is incredible too.
It should be a crime to say that cooler is boring
It amazes me that you would rate Super Broly A, specially when it has so much better animation, music, and on-par story/characters as Battle of Gods.
This whole list is jacked up!! Lmao
@@danielz-v4083 Super Hero IS S tier. Have you seen it? That movie is one of the best ones Dragon Ball has made. I dont think it beats Broly but it's definitely on the same level.
None of this list makes sense.
Personally, I think DBS Broly had some pacing issues. Once we get to the fighting, it’s basically nonstop for like 40 minutes. I get why people would enjoy that, but for me and some others, it can get a little fatiguing personally.
Woah there pal did you just say the stories on par with Battle of Gods I highly doubt that there was no buildup
While I want to disagree with your thoughts on the Cooler movies, there can be no mistaking that it's really Andrew Chandler's performance as Cooler in the dub that has made him such a popular character, and not necessarily the quality of the character himself or the movies as a whole. With that said I am a big fan of Goku managing things that shouldn't be possible. I love when he overloads the Meta Coolers despite being half dead and when he punches Bojack despite being all dead. While not always done well I think it's empowering when I share in his head space briefly and he ends up doing exactly what I want to do in that situation.
I feel the same way, the dub VA for Cooler really carried the character for me. Let's not forget Cooler's voice clips from the games being used for a certain character who's quite popular on the interwebs ;)
Yeah I agree, it truly shocked me that he thought Goku punching through Android 13 to not be sick as hell, I’ll probably never forget the first time I saw that, I love DBZ
I still remember that iconic line “I’LL CRUSH YOU!”
@@DBMusicEX what's this referencing?
@@Blaze-zm7zt Super Mario Brothers Z. A Mario-Sonic fan crossover story with fights mostly in the style of DBZ, from the 2000s. The main villain is Mecha Sonic, who uses almost entirely Cooler voice clips (when voices are used, it's mostly text bubbles for characters). This version of Mecha Sonic was a pseudo-internet icon and iterations of him were used is several other fan projects.
I really liked Dead Zone. It aired on TV the day before DBZ Episode 1 did...Or at least that's how I discovered it on TV. It got me hooked on DBZ almost immediately, and having rewatched it, it still doesn't have terrible storytelling to me. The whole Gohan thing is weird, but it's a small gripe. It fits pretty well in the canon too, which a lot of movies don't seem to do.
Dead Zone is also one of my favorites. I really like Garlic Jr’s design, the team up of Goku and Piccolo is awesome, and I still get whenever I hear Gohan’s scream when he fights against Garlic Jr. However, I don’t agree with your statement that the movie could fit in the canon. This video sums up why: ruclips.net/video/JV-rB1yEOsE/видео.html

I'll be honest, I enjoy the Lord Slug movie. The beginning isn't great, but once the aliens land, it gets pretty interesting. I like the idea of freezing a planet to take it over, and the henchmen were some of the coolest and most memorable henchmen in any DBZ movie. Plus, the fights were pretty good (watching Chi-Chi join in was incredible) and the whole twist of Slug being a Namekian legitimately surprised me when I first watched it. It's not the best movie, but it certainly isn't a D imo.
Lord slug the music the villains race his goals and sucesss gathering the dragonballs, his giant form and old form and also youthful form plus ss1 beint brown red hair originaly made this amazing for me to plus the music. Dead zone worlds strongest tree of might lord slug coolers revenge are the best movies imo counting the original 13 dbz movies! Out of the later z movies I thought coolers revenge Android 13 were trash and bojacks actions and backstory sort of brought back some plot to the story not just action onky but the music sucked. I enjoyed bojack I just wish it had better music. Janemba is way overrated I will take any broly movie over janemba anyday and movie 13 was the only movie of the later half that like the original 4 had a unique backstory and plot not just fighting like 6 7 10 did
The music in Lord Slug - at least the dub - absolutely slapped. The ending, from Piccolo transferring his power to Goku onward, and the music swelling as Goku powers up with Piccolo's "form" blending with his to match Slug's stature? That shit is such an iconic moment that no one else appreciates. Couple that with fact that Goku and Piccolo basically beat him the same way he beat Piccolo BOTH times (A headbutt), and I feel like TotallyNotMark is TotallyOffTheMark on that one.
I know it's not technically a movie, but I do wish History of Trunks had had some kind of mention in this video. I feel like the fight choreography and the story beats are both really good in that one, so would have liked to hear Mark's opinion on it.

Bro, the theme for Gogeta in Fusion Reborn ALONE is enough for S tier
Movie 11 (Bio Broly) really should have been Gokou vs Broly in the afterlife. That's something they kinda set up at the end of Movie 10, then never followed up on. No one can tell me that wouldn't have been a hell of a banger. SSJ2 Gokou vs even-stronger Broly (maybe also SSJ2!) in some underworld hellscape writes itself.
This is a great idea, and now I'm mad it didn't happen.
I was wondering a while back about merging Second Coming and Bio Broly into one movie where it takes ALL the remaining Z Fighters to stop a survived Broly without the help of Goku. Would've been more engaging and paletable that way than either movie was on its own.
I see what you mean about it setting up Broly meeting Goku in the afterlife now lol. That's an idea so crazy it sounds like fanfiction but it honestly could've been really cool. It might have had some bleed over with Fusion Reborn also being Goku in the afterlife but maybe if they explored areas other than Hell it could've stood in its own.
Hell, they could’ve had the first half of Bio-Broly be the same as the original, while the second half deals with Goku fighting Broly in hell with Pikkon. Maybe they could’ve even connected it with Fusion Reborn by having it be like “oh Broly’s soul was too strong for the soul cleansing machine and all of the evil energy escaped” thus bringing in Janemba.
You may not like Goku's paragon schtick in Cooler 1, however, it's the movie that also inexplicably gives Goku one of his most hard and savage lines ever.
"The weak die, and the strong survive!"
"Alright then, we'll play by your rules!"
I gotta say Super Broly has a special place in my heart, its the first bit of dragon ball media ive seen that isnt RUclips bits or discussion videos. The animation is top notch and the music is, probably the best ive heard in a movie.
Its not perfect but to me, it is
I still have yet to finish Broly, but from what I’ve seen and heard from people so far it’s incredible. My first movie was Super Hero
You definitely misplaced Broly. It was by far the best!
Battle Of Gods has a special place in my heart, I remember going to see the movie with my dad around 1 or 2 AM since it was in pre-premiere, and damn, it was an experience!
Broly was very interesting at first. We all used to think back then that Goku was the legendary super saiyan, and then Broly came and showed that Goku was just some guy. Broly was the legendary super saiyan. The movie arrived in just the right moment. Watching it now, it's not that good at all and yes, the thing about the baby Goku crying and getting Broly angry was so incredibly stupid...
But back then Broly was a revolution. An evil super saiyan that was stronger than Goku. Someone used and weak that became so strong but lost himself in the process. Fascinating.
Overall I agree with your classification almost 1:1, pretty amazing.
hes still really badass. only reason i even enjoy and rewatch the first broly movie is because youre just watching broly cause carnage and tear through everyone. i cant think of any other villian that, out the gate, immediately beat ass and made a win seem hopeless instantaneously upon fighting them
I agree with him that first Broly wasn't that great if you take off the nostalgia context but I disagree with him....no...I slap down his claim that new Broly is more interesting.
The new brolyMovie was good solely because of the animation and maybe if you think that the settings and characters were more interesting than the original. Broly himself was more shit than the old one (especially because they already had a base design to work off of) and everyone praises him through NPC consumer lenses.
I think if they hadn’t made Broly’s motivation his memories of Goku crying, but instead his reasoning being that he thought Goku killed Frieza, so he and Paragas weren’t able to kill Freeza themselves, that could’ve possibly made more sense.
@@bMt5553 Let me introduce you to another thought pattern.
Broly doesn't have MUCH motivation to kill Goku,The whole plotline of Broly remembering Goku was so that he had an *subconscious* trigger. A subconscious trigger would serve to combat the mind numbing device through Broly's deep seeded desire to shut Goku up.
What did Broly act like after his control was removed? Was he acting like an emotional mess? No.
Broly literally started having *fun* while kicking the Z fighters asses. He targetted Goku just because he had a small gripe with him AND Goku was the strongest enemy.
Sure Vegeta should have been the main target, but Broly having a main target was not mainly about vengeance, it was just Broly being Broly. Goku just woke him up from the trance and annoyed him when he was young. Sure Vegeta's dad had him stabbed, but Broly is a crazy phk and would rather torture a guy that consistently pissed him off when he was a baby.
The second Broly movie is when you get Traumatized Broly. For one, Goku humiliated Broly, and two, Broly probably has brain damage lmfao. Who knows, maybe Broly suffered highly after their battle.
Either way it's clear as hell. First movie Broly barely gives a damn about what Goku did to him. He doesn't act like it at all. That true observation gets compounded when you watch the second movie and see a Broly that DOES have Goku induced PTSD.
@@Trollamollex Finally! Another comment that understands OG Broly. A lot of people miss this point. Especially me for the longest time. But you're right, Goku's crying is 100% a trigger for him that reminds him of the trauma he went through. He's not mad at Goku for simply crying. He's mad at Goku because he subconsciously blames him for his shitty life. Broly was a baby at the time, so he's not going to associate King Vegeta or Vegeta for his stabbing. He's going to associate the only other thing he remembers at that time. Even as an adult, yes he can think logically and blame Vegeta for it. But the trigger will always be Masako Nozawa crying. Rewatching the movie with that in mind made me bump it up my personal tier list.
These movies were all just for fun. Ive watched these multiple times and still enjoy them every now and then
Just because of this video, Son Gohan's whistle song is stuck in my head again. and i love it.
Super Broly was so damn good. First anime movie I ever saw in theaters and it was a damn trip.
He did my favorite DBZ movie, Boujack Unbound, dirty. I’m honestly happy that it’s not just a Gohan focused movie, that it focuses on Trunks and Krillin as well.
probably my favourite with super hero
Ok but the Super Android 13 english dub has its moment.
Broly second coming I actively hate because it stripped broly of his character. Seriously, he went from full sentences to one word. Think about that for a moment, even if you don't like the character or think they're badly written, that's a hell of a downgrade. I personally think he was mostly well written given he was meant to be a one of villain that was completely into being evil, actively calling himself a devil and threatening to kill Goku's kid first just because it'd hurt him more, like Jesus Christ that's well written for a one off.
22:18 i believe Toriyama wanted it to be a story about Tapion and Trunks, and story beats making sense, but his executive team went "nobody's gonna watch it if Goku isn't there, they'll be crying and screaming and kicking until they see him make a final kill" so he just breathed a long sigh and fell to the executive team's whim.
Unfortunately you are right, hence the downfall of Buu Saga and Resurrection F. Sigh, as kids we overlooked it because we loved seeing Goku pull off some outlandishly cool finishing move, only to realize when we’re older how much more compelling it wouldve been to see a lot of the endings unfold a different way
Toriyama wasnt a writer for it
Imo boujack was carried my the beginning. Because, as much as I love big fights, sometimes I love just seeing the characters interact and seeing people confused af on why a funny little bald man is whooping everyone. An example of how much I love the characters. Some of my favorite super episodes are the first few where it has nothing to do with anything. It’s just good, nice fun.
Everything about this list is great to me except naming Super Hero as an S-tier movie. Gohan's new transformation didn't feel earned imo, so I'd say it's an A-tier. Piccolo deserved the love he received!
I'd argue that Piccolo's transformation wasn't well deserved either. The whole water drop on a dragon feels like the most egregious ass-pull in the show yet. He could've done it SO many times in the past. Don't get me wrong, Piccolo was EASILY the best part of the movie, but him and Gohan getting their boosts in undeserved ways felt awful. Mark complaining about the Water thing with Goku in the King Piccolo arc wasn't nearly as bad.
Dragon Ball is a huge thing here in Brazil and when Battle of Gods came out with the original VAs for PTBR it was amazing, watching the movie on the big screen at the movies and hearing Wendel Bezerra’s amazing voice acting that we heard as a little kid was an experience. I remember crying of pure joy when watching the scene where Goku is overwhelmed with debris, turns into super sayan and screams “CHEGA DE TANTA DESTRUIÇÃO!” and the Hero - Flow OST kicks in, for that alone this is my favorite anime movie of all time, for the whole experience and memories it gave me, for the moment and scene that I will happily treasure all my life.
For me it's a toss up between the first Broly movie and Coolers Revenge.
Just damn cool bad guys, it's a shame Cooler never got much love. That moment where he FLIES THROUGH A KAMEHAMEHA was so endlessly badass. We'd seen deflections, we'd seen outright tanking and we'd seen overpowering with your own move but never just flying through it like it was a weak gust of wind.
And Broly, what can I say, he's boring as a character but awesome as an overpowered villain. The music that plays when he first transforms is great and really sets the scene for the upcoming beatdown.
Honourable mention, the Hatchiyak movie, however you spell it. He was kinda cool too.
I think it was an OVA
I really loved hatchiyack he didn't have much going for him personality wise but his design is one of the best dragon ball designs I've ever seen and the fact that he's a tuffle alone makes him one of my favorite villains
Cooler to me will always be the most Badass villain design in the franchise! When they decided to name the character ''Cooler'' they weren't kidding!
I had sleeping princess on vhs when i was really young, Havent seen it in years but i loved it so much
I dont agree with most of the tier list, but you did point out a lot of points that I never noticed !
There’s always this misconception in the fandom about goku crying in the chamber. Broly’s character arc was not over goku’s crying. Goku’s crying was symbolism for his untapped potential as a fighter and his willingness to not back down. With Broly being born with a power level of 10,000 and goku being born with the lowest of just 1. Broly was the strongest new born in that chamber and was said to be the pinnacle of their race. Meaning that the sheer magnitude in broly’s strength couldnt break goku’s spirit. Which means broly held no influence over him which bothered him greatly. And if you don’t believe this, In The Bardock special, when goku was crying one of the guards said “Do you hear that, that’s the cry of a great warrior.” Even in the broly movie in the subbed version it said “that kid who they named kakarrot has a lot of guts”. Besides if a deep rooted grudge was his motivation, when he became free of the mind control device and was fully cognitive. Why didn’t he bring it up? Because he never even remembered that at all until the end of the movie
Plus Goku showing up at the end of second coming was one of the coolest moments we ever got. Even though it may not have
Made sense canonically since the dragon wasn’t summoned but I always liked to think that Goku’s spirit was there to help push Gohan and Goten to defeat broly
@@sirsmoothable I really hope Mark reads your comment
dude it was a dumb plotpoint for a series that is historically a comedic gag manga as well
don't pretend it's any deeper than that
@@jesusbarrera6916 Yea a series that inspired every mangaka shonen to this day. Dweeb. And nobody is “pretending” it’s just people easily misinterpret broly’s character to the sound of crying because this was never explained properly
@@jesusbarrera6916 LMAO true
a new updated Janemba movie would be sick. always loved the way they animated him materialising between dimensions
yamamuro draw it hith his own hands he explained it was really hard
The first 3 DBZ movies are easily the best and, just like the Saiyan saga, are part of the reason many of us fell in love with the series. In terms of story they have the most serious and engaging atmosphere with super unique villains and plots. The artwork was top-tier and at its peak at this time, the fight choreography was absolutely excellent as it still incorporated martial arts, and there was so many cool elements like Gohan's rage, great apes, kaioken, power pole, and the most intense-looking energy blasts. The World's Strongest is the best with Tree of Might a close second.
relax
L take
Wrath of the Dragon , despite Goku's kill steal at the end being absolutely atrocious, will always be my top choice because I loved Tapion that much, and I wish we they'd reintroduce him at some point.
I'd love to see a 2 hour, in-depth review of Bio Broly
The metal cooler movie had the best concept of them all, they could make a whole arc out of that
Lord Slug,Bojack Unbound,Fusion Reborn and Wrath of the Dragon are the most underrated DB films in my opinion
one great thing about Broly Second Coming is that Videl looks really good in it because of the colouring, she also has a really nice design in it, almost every frame is peak pfp material
God the Dragon Ball movies original airings here in the UK was a sight to behold.
We were already used to the dub voices changing (It went from Ocean to Funimation back to Ocean than to Blue Water for GT and OG Dragon Ball if memory serves me correct) but nothing could prepare us for the Big Green dub
When I was a kid I always preferred the Funi Dub in the UK, but the ocean dub was okay.
As soon as they released the movie with the big green dub, I was mortified 😂🙈 totally ruined the experience
@@po72644 Funny story.
The week that they first aired the first five movies in the UK, I went away to Butlins for the week.
My Dad knew how big of a DBZ fan I was so he organised it so my grandparents would record three of the movies for me. And I said Dead Zone, Lord Slug and Cooler's Revenge (Monday, Thursday and Friday because each day a new film aired). I picked them because I recognised Garlic Jr from the show, Lord Slug I was just interested in the evil Namekian (I hadn't seen OG Dragon Ball so had no idea about King Piccolo) and Cooler was because Frieza lol.
With each day at Butlins, I got more and more excited over watching the movies and when I got back and saw my Dad, he had bought me a McDonalds and gave the tapes to me so I could watch them. Then I saw it...
I was wondering why the picture looked so old, why Goku had such a deep older voice, why nobody called Piccolo Piccolo, why the actors talked so fast that it was like they didn't give a fuck. Why almost all the main villains had the same voice actor (The Old Guy).
Did I love it though? YEAH! If only because I was a Dragon Ball fanatic that literally anything that came out, Hook it to my veins lol
You watch the Big Green Dub to laugh at it lol
They are almost nonexistent, but maybe a handful of parts of the big green dub are actually good. The ones that immediately come to mind for me are Paragas‘s voice actor, Broly’s Voice actor, and when the old guy is playing Dr. Gero, they may not be meant for those roles but they actually sound like they’re invested. Still though, it’s big greeen!
I remember it blowing my mind years after i first watched dbz when i finally watched the movies and I saw the clips from the opening that i knew so well. I think that alone gave those early dbz movies a soft spot in my heart.
I'd be curious to see a tier list from someone who saw the movies back in 2000 when they came to USA. Who else remembers walking around blockbuster and stumbling upon the dbz movies in the small anime section? This is before the came out on TV.
extremely sad that A Hero's Legacy continues to not get the recognition it deserves but amazing video regardless
I really like the first (and just the first one) Cooler movie for one simple reason: It could be cannon (between goku coming back to earth and the androids showing up). Every other movie had at least one thing that would have not been possible on our timeline.
What about the one with Bojack? It easily occurs after the Cell Saga and I think that it fits perfectly between the 7 years timeskip from Cell Saga to Buu Saga, even Tapion's movie might occur after the defeat of Kid Buu.
@@RzK_venger795 Bojack has two problems - Future Trunks and Vegeta. WHy should Future Trunks stay in the past for a tournament? And second of all Vegeta gave up fighting until hte beginning of the boo saga.
And with tapion there is a powerscalling problem. Mythic Gohan (at this point in time) is stronger then ssj 3 Goku.
@@MrDeflador It is worth to add that Gohan's hairstyle in Cooler movie is the same as the one he had back on Namek (the bowl cut), while in the 3 year period of time they were training before the Androids coming he had another one (long hair Yamcha-ish), so that actually ruines Cooler's movie's canonicity.
Thank you, totally agreed.
@@RzK_venger795 thank you also.
Dude honestly I would’ve given coolers revenge an A off the soundtrack in the dub version alone, it has so many good tracks it’s almost like an AMV at times
Honestly lol i still listen to disturbed regularly thanks too me growing up with movies like lord slug
This is also what I remember most fondly about that movie. That climax sequence with Revelation by American Pearl in the background? Perfection.
Yo Mark please dont forget the specials. Both Bardock episodes, Son goku Jr., the tarble debut and potentially other ones deserve some love too!

Z Broly has PTSD from his past and split personality disorder due to the power of being LSSJ. Saiyan babies have great memory that they are sent to other planets to conquer. Broly hates Goku because he reminds him of the day of being stabbed. He remembers Goku ki and hearing the name Kakarot as baby. When he first met Goku again as an adult, he sensed his ki triggering his ptsd reminding him of that day. Goku is the link to the pain he felt as a baby. Its not that Broly blames Goku for what happened but Goku triggers the psychological trauma of the incident causing him to relive the experience of being stabbed in the chest as a baby. So how does Broly get rid of that pain?
By getting rid of Goku.
Broly split personality was affected by his past and LSSJ power. LSSJ power is more unique than the regular SSJ. Lssj is constantly overflowing with power that it is much more harder to control. When Goku went ssj1 for the first time he told Gohan to leave since he almost lost it with rage. When saiyans ascend to ssj1 and above their power increases as well as their aggressive savage saiyan natures increases for example ssj3 Goku and Gohan ssj2 they were more serious and willing to kill. Goku had his saiyan nature changed from hitting his head as a baby and Gohan is better raised by Goku and is half human. So imagine being a natural born saiyan with Lssj power who had a harsh past of being stabbed as a baby and raised as a weapon by your dad. Base Broly was more shy and docile until his power takes over making him lose control which is why Paragus put the headpiece on him to control his powers and to prevent his other personality from coming out
Yes, Superhero il one of the best DB movie ever done. Maybe the best at all.
Despite certain things that have become a trademark of the Super series.
And, personal opinion, the Bio Broly movie, putting aside the villain, in my opinion it is quite enjoyable. Mr Satan is funny, 18 and Krillin are given the right space, and Goten & Trunks are not annoying. If the antagonist was an original character with a decent design, everyone would judge this movie better.
Can't believe I'm agreeing that bio broly could've been good but honestly you're right. Goten and Trunks not being obnoxious brats is a shockingly uncommon thing.
It's definitely one of the better ones but not better than Broly or Battle of Gods imo
Super hero has good action, but the story is absolute D tier for me, only enjoyable if u turn off your brain
it's just gohan vs cell again
DBS super hero its one of the worst movies i ever seen of DB Story was trash, the figths were trash asf, animation was ok i expected more from a cgi animation. Everything in that movie feels so bad and the final enemy was bio Broly level. Trash ass movie fr
Even though Cooler didn’t have much going for him personality-wise, I really liked his design, specifically his 5th form. I watched the movies growing up as a kid so how Cool a character looked played a big part in me liking them.
Same, and its pretty hard to introduce and brand new character and have the character be amazing. Especially if the character kind of lives in another characters shadow(not in terms of power but in terms of development and screen time which might be the biggest factor)
Cooler is way cooler than Frieza
@@BrokutheSonofSparda (knee slap)
@@BrokutheSonofSparda I hate to say it, but hard disagree. Cooler is the Shadow the Hedgehog of Frieza.
His design is literally "Frieza, but with more strong colors and some spikes and shit"
Cooler’s revenge with the soundtrack ❤ S tier. “Hurting innocent people is something I DON’T TOLERATE!!” 😮❤ Broly is also S tier. And where is the GT movie? That movie was great and deserves some love.
That first dbz broly movie is my favorite by far and gives me soo much damn nostalgia. Pantera kicking in as broly transforms, and his scream. The way the very world and atmosphere changes when he powers up as his bizzare aura surrounds him. The fighting is amazing, i loved the choreography. I love the mood, artwork, music, (im a huge metalhead now because of this movie). The backgrounds and environments looked like PAINTINGS. The broly movie quite literally shaped who i am as a person. I dont care if the writing isnt very good, because to me it doesnt take anything away from my enjoyment of the movie. Its a non canon movie that provides an exciting fight and SUCH a cool character and transformation. S tier for me
Dbs broly movie doesn't even come close to me *personally*. Maybe it's because I wasn't too into super and the many retcons they made (looking at you zenkai boosts) and how much I loved and attached I was to the OG broly movie and design. Broly being able to contend with Goku and Vegeta feels like it just completely undersells all their development that occurred throughout super; god ki and Super Saiyan blue etc. The fight scenes just kind of hurt my eyes I didn't enjoy it. The artwork really wasn't my cup of tea, I much preferred the way the first dbz broly looked, it's environments especially. I also really disliked how Frieza was portrayed as well, like he was just a joke. I honestly would've preferred if broly was kept as non canon, or if they used another movie character to reinvent in the series. Coming from a HUGE broly fan, I was very disappointed
To be fair, I dont completely dislike super, battle of gods was very intriguing to me (S tier foor sure) and I REALLY like daddy beerus as a character. You have some cool powers there like Hit's time skip ability. Aside from a FEW good things, super can hardly compare to Z in my heart. I followed it the whole time all the way up to Ultra instinct and to be honest since the Dbs broly movie I've lost any interest in reading or watching it any further. I persisted for long enough
THAT THUMBNAIL IS INSANE!!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, MARK
Editor-san did a phenomenal job, keeping the... editing... short and not overselling jokes, and making me laugh each and every time. Love ya m8!
Cooler's Revenge should be A tier.
"All movies suck, anyway watch my tier list." Its interesting how he can say everything sucks while enjoying comedy dubs. Thats like hating on The Godfather while enjoying Adam Sandler. Some people enjoy those movies for the fight scenes and don't expect a story masterpiece, nor making it a science project in animation comparison. This Tier list barely mentions the fights and whines about lack of story. But WHO am I to complain? I dont have millions of subs or a sponsor or a Patreon so my opinion is worth s*** right?
Dragon ball super super hero shocked me because i didn't think cgi can look this good..there wasn't any junky or deformed shots throughout the movie
I was thoroughly amazed and impressed by how good it actually looked
It was an amazing movie and it was the example that cgi can be used in ways that looks phenomenon..
The plot of this movie is well dragon ball based but all in all i really enjoyed it
Oh and the fear that i had about the cgi being a downgrade all disappeared when i started watching the movie
Also, while for most narratives the stuff they do with the characters isn't groundbreaking, by Dragonball standards? It totally is. Gamma II was amazing.
@@lionofash7700 no this movie was just out right imo the only saving grace were gamma and the animation
@niko-chan I've read all of the dragon ball manga in it's entirety and I can say while yes cell max is stupid it is a good movie it help bring life back to Gohan, videl, and especially piccolo and if your gonna complain about the transformations being an asspull remember that's all dragon ball is now mui is basically a reskined ssj god, ssj god was literally the last transformation to not be an asspull and if your okay with mui but not final Gohan and dragon piccolo ( ik it's orange piccolo but he's basically a Dragon ball now) then your just a Goku and Vegeta fanboy who doesn't care about the other characters so what if they came outta nowhere that's just dragon ball clearly you didn't read shit lol
@niko-chan Bulma always made humanistic wishes? Like...getting a perfect boyfriend? Ahahah, I feel like someome else here never read or watched Dragon Ball.
The OG story of Dragon Ball is by itself full of bugs. The movie was pretty good and a fun experience.
@niko-chan she ditched that wish when she realized that Yamcha was there all along. 10 years later she ponders to summon Shenron to look younger, that's just how Bulma is. That is classic Toriyama humor.
Awesome, my favorite DB movie is probably Fusion Reborn.
i rlly enjoyed this video
The fact that Mr. Satan is in Bio-Broly makes it way better then Broly 2.
This was a very very beautiful tier list video, probably one of my favorites with it both being very humorous and insightful. Thank you Mark this was fun to watch
Man, TFS really skewed my liking of the DBZ movies spanning from Deadzone to Broly since that’s how I’ve watched most of them for the first time
My first movie (this was via the UK yellow DB dvd boxsets we have over here) was "Curse of the Blood Rubies" with original 1995 BLT Dub cast, (later members of Ocean Studios), which had Saffron Henderson as Goku, Lalainia Lindbjerg and Maggie Blue O'Hara as Bulma, Ted Cole as Yamcha, Alec Willows as Oolong, Kathy Morse as Puar and Michael Donavan as Roshi (with additional voices from Robert O' Smith, Teryl Rothery, Garry Chalk, Doug Parker and a very young Andrea Libman) but later on I grew to enjoy Dead Zone with Peter Kelamis and Scott McNeil (the finest Piccolo in all of Anime dubbing history)...
Let's Gohan, gohome!
That's why you should always watch the actual movies first
@@willisstillhere8846 no
That's rather unfortunate since you didn't get to experience the movies with a fresh take. It's also incredibly difficult to fully enjoy a parody of something specific when you don't know the source material since you end up missing some of the nuance. I mean, if you enjoyed it, that's great, I just know personally I wouldn't have enjoyed DBZA nearly as much had I not watched the official material first, though still would've liked it.
Watching this after the official release of super hero I’m confused as to why it would be put higher than super Broly.
“This is a personal attack on your childhood”
personally my favorite reason why i sub to mark
To be fair. The bio broly had some sick duo action with goten and trunks. It was so cool
18 was Hilarious! Bio was the best of the Brolys...
Until 2018... BROLY'S TIER IS MAXIMUM!
I actually loved bio Broly it let characters shine that wasn’t goku vegeta or gohann and not the orignals like tien or Yamcha but hercule Android 18 goten trunks it was good for thst and I loved it for that reason the same way I enjoyed garlic jr saga for the same reason bcuz of what it’s not
To me the Bio movie was definitely better than movie 10 for all of these reasons. Different character focus as well as good animation and fight choreography. Sure Broly was even uglier here than Dr Willow but if you can just get past that then it was pretty enjoyable. Actually he and this movie have a lot in common with the Cell Max one.
I'ma use your list as what dbz I should watch right away. I have a lot of free time this Summer break, love what you do btw 🤩
Watch the S tiers, consider the A tiers, then just watch DBZA movies
Prove it
@Sрееd 🅥 LETS FUKING GO ITS FINALLY HERE!
what is the background music thats being played in the wrath of the dragon i've been looking for it for years
I’m glad you made a new tier for Evolution
Plot twist: Vegeta had already knew Instant transmission ever since The Return of Cooler and was waiting to show it off
Awesome video as always, Mark!
I gotta say though, for me DBS: Broly is definitely S tier. That's my favourite Dragon Ball movie of all time, hands down. Ironically, I feel Super Hero is A tier as a whole. It definitely had some S tier moments, but there were things that also ruined them for me.
At the end of the day though, it's Dragon Ball and that'll always bring enjoyment in some capacity to me, so I'm grateful we live in a time where new DB content is coming out regularly. ^_^
“It’s Dragon Ball, and that’ll always bring enjoyment in some capacity to me” you have no idea how refreshing it is to read this lol. Amen!
Broly is 100% S Tier idk what he’s talking about. I love Mark but that’s the best movie of the franchise so far. Super Hero was solid action and great story but some ass pulling and weird plot elements makes it a firm A tier
Dbs is 2/2 with movies so far
You don't know what irony means. But I agree nonetheless.
Super hero is an A tier for me too
Putting BOG and Super Hero over Broly is a bold move my friend.
i personally was dissapointed in the ranking of coolers revenge
Hot Take: I like Bio Broly for the simple fact that it does the one thing that Dragon Ball Super seems to be afraid to do, it gives Goten and Trunks character progression and portrays them as competent fighters instead of kids in over their heads. Goten and Trunks aren't just kids goofing around here, they have a vendetta against Broly for what he did to them in the last movie and the two of them go at him with all the fervor of two saiyan warriors looking to settle a score. Say what you want about the movie but this is the only time you get to see these two kids kick ass and take names without relying on gimmicks.
I think Mark is too hung up on things like 'story' and Broly being a mud monster, its a DBZ movie, a good story is nice but you don't exactly watch them for that. You don't need to over scrutinize the story and Broly being a mud monster can overlooked because its not about him its about Goten and Trunks coming into their own as fighters and by the end I think this movie nails that.
Yep !
It's not just Mark either, Nu-Broly gets overrated due to the "muh story" thing too, despite the fact that Nu-Broly is just Tarzan.
@@ngultrum1 no no no, he isn’t Tarzan. He’s a stupid version of saiyan saga Gohan, complete with ‘waaaahh you hurt my daddy’ power up
I agree
People constantly get Broly’s motivation wrong
He doesn’t hate Kakarot SOLELY because he cried for a couple of hours. He hates him because the name and the crying is a trigger for him being fucking stabbed as a child and being left in a crater to die with his father. Not to mention, Paragus likely added about 80% of the torment to that blazing inferno that is Broly’s anger.
This doesn’t completely make Broly’s backstory and motivations any better, but it certainly alleviates a majority of the memeing and stupidity this character has.
Great video. Dragon Ball is one of my favourite animes but in my 35 years old is not longer in my top 5. Anyway, it has a special place in my heart, beside Saint Seiya, because it captured all the fantastic and dream adventures any kid needs through childhood to fulfill his soul (the image of a heroe as a moral ideal).
It would be great a chanel like this, with great quality content and videos, but about Saint Seiya.
Path to power is actually my favourite Dragon Ball movie! I'm so glad it ranked as highly as it did 😁
Super Android 13 is too connected to my love for Dragon Ball since I had been watching the show since I was 4 but it was all very random because tv schedules weren't a concept for me.
Only when my father bought the Super Android 13 movie from one of those big baskets full of VHS tapes in a supermarket.
That was the first dragon ball story I was able to follow from start to finish so it will be forever one of my favorite movies no matter if it doesn't have a deep story, I love it.
