I remember seeing Bill Ford(?) talk about this at a show in the US, a year or two ago. They were all over the place trying to describe its design purpose, and like VW at the time, we’re going on about LED mood lighting and it’s effect on the psyche, and other such bollocks.
Eventually, Jim Farley took over and as a ‘car guy’ started promoting the Mach-e’s Mustang heritage on shows like Jay Leon’s Garage. It’s nothing like the ‘68/‘69 390GT, but I’ve seen a few around and it certainly stands out visually. I guess if the owners are happy, it’s job done.

2.4 Mi/kWh? Yesterday I took our Model 3 LR RWD (no heat pump) on a 73-mile trip that started at 24F and ended at 10F. Battery was preheated to about 55F (as shown in ScanMyTesla). Half of the trip was 35-50mph roads (which were dry and no wind), and the other half was highway driving at 65 mph. Ran the heat at 68F the whole time on auto. With winter tires we still scored 338 Wh/Mi, or 2.95 mi/kWh. My lifetime at 17k miles is 4.06 Mi/kWh, or 246 Wh/mi.

When the Mach e was first released, I very much liked the looks of it. Being from BC, Canada an ev has to meet certain price points to qualify for up to $8000 in government grants....the Mach e doesn’t as it is priced to high. So in comes the ID4 ( which I totally disagree with you, the Skoda looks terrible. The whole front end😝) the ID4 does meet the pricing requirements for grants. So an equally spec’d MACH E vs ID4 in Canada works out to be a $12,000 price difference, add in the $8,000 government rebate and now you have a $20,000 price difference. So at that price difference would you take the ID4 or the MACH E? Always enjoy your reviews👍 Jade from B.C. Canada

    • @jonathantaylor1998
      @jonathantaylor1998 2 года назад

I'll caveat this up front by saying I'm absolutely not a fan of SUVs...
Having said that, I've watched a fair number of reviews on all the ones you've highlighted you're looking at.
      So, for what it's worth:
Mach-E on larger alloys has a firmer, more sporting drive than this one seemed to have (perhaps the larger battery weight on the taller sidewall tyres made it too bouncy?)
EV6 seems to be an excellent compromise between sports and comfort.
iD.4 is floaty and soft (but, you've got to put up with laggy and glitchy software...!)
Model Y is WAY too hard and uncompromising for most UK roads.
If you're looking for something 'interesting' in design, yet smoothest for long journeys, then what about the Ionic 5...? 🤔

BMW I4 not ID4 was a lovely car to drive but in the flesh the hatchback is not dog friendly - too sloping and no headroom for the dog - lively car otherwise
Ioniq 5 seems very unavailable at present - some people waiting nearly a year and some concerns re efficiency
EV6 was good - competent nice car but didn’t really grab me as special interior wise
So having driven the I4 also in the showroom was an Ix3 - like my mini an electrified ice car - very traditional, not cutting edge or ev by design but a good square boot and gets good review for how it drives and efficiency and can get money off BMW through their Military/Police scheme - not too many other car discounts about at the moment - so thinking about that

I think Ford put the small tires on the Mach-E to make the ride softer. Multiple reviewers have bought or tested Performance Model Ys and complained about the stiff ride. If you buy a performance car, you should expect a stiff ride. I actually went down to the 18" wheels on my LR Model 3, down from the standard 19s. A bunch of guys upgraded to the Tesla 20 inchers. Sure they look better, but they don't feel better.

A lot of reviews mention the poor ride comfort /suspension on the 18 inch wheels though. A few have compared it to being on a trampoline.Problem is most reviews are on a sunny flat, smooth american highway, reality kicks in hard on UK /Irish roads and again well for small windy country Uk /Irish roads i can only imagine these issues being magnified again.Still a very good first attempt by Ford and the Mach-E definitely has that WOW factor. The Cyber Orange colour is stunning.

@@andymccabe6712 it's great you can look beyond a name and a badge. I'm one of those people who views fake rolex's as fake rolex's regardless if the build quilatity is actually good. A name hold's alot of weight to me.

Well that driving feel is typical of cars designed for American roads. Straight boring smooth. Not wet, narrow, bumpy, intresting and cold roads.
Economy is just terrible and the reason it has no Ford Badge anywhere is because they want to keep making fossil cars for ever.

      1) In their defence, I'm pretty sure they're in the middle of a "redesign" following the (hilarious) Munro critique.
      2) Don't shout too loudly about the Hyundai. Pack heating, related inconsistent charge, a d now "invertor issues" causing cabin heat problems...... Needs work.
Oh, and software locking the drive modes.

Saw some at Ford dealer, compared to the ice model they are plain ugly. Putting the Mustang logo on something so dull looking is a huge mistake.
