This was the best comparison of sublimation printers I have ever seen. Thanks for your clarity, simple explanations, clear voice, and seriousness, and for not joking around or making excuses. You always get to the point without procrastination, family, or phone interference. Thank you, Thank you, Thank You, Angie!
Hi Angie, Thanks-thorough review. You covered a lot of my questions! I'm just starting in sublimation and am looking for easy-peasy. I also thought for a quick second, questioning the printer because it's Brother's 1st sublimation printer, but then I said the same thing about Brother having been in the printer business for years. Additionally, I have two Brother embroidery machines and love them. I've had one of my embroidery machines since 2017 with no problems, so I feel confident me and the SP-1 will get along just fine. I also like the Wi-Fi option on the SP-1, because I have Wi-Fi on my embroidery machines and the scan n cut that I have. Thanks again!
I'm so glad to hear that. I am brand new to sublimation and I bought the Epson 8550 to convert. I felt nervous about setting it up so I bought this one. This seems so much easier to set up. I havent heard any complaints about it either unlike the 8550 once converted.
I have a Sawgrass SG1000 and find the inks very expensive. I have tried compatible inks but haven't found the colours to be as good as the Sawgrass Inks. Might think about changing to this printer in the future. Thank you for the review.
I love my Brother Scan-N-Cut, Brother P-Touch, so I went with the Brother Sublimation Printer and I love it! I set it up and and I was creating sublimation mugs and the colors were perfect! Brother Fan ❤
So glad I purchased this printer. I’m setting it up today! I got the last one in the state (Best Buy) so I’m assuming it’s popular. Excited to get started! Thank you for an easy explanation ❤
Excellent review! Now I am wanting to get this Brother printer. The problem I have had with the Epson printers with sublimation ink is that you must run a test once a week to prevent your ink from drying up. This Brother seems the way to go.
I’m so glad I haven’t bought an Epson ecotank yet! I was wanting a Sawgrass, but the price of the ink really put me off. This printer looks like it would be a great alternative. I would love to see more videos using this printer. Thanks so much for showing us.
This may just be a game changer for me. The Eco tank is the MOST frustrating machine that I use. This could be a solid addition to my other Brother products. Thanks!
I’m just going to give an update on the Brother Sublimation Printer. I adore it! I don’t use it everyday, and after a couple weeks of not running it, it works like a charm! I have told myself over and over again, how smart of a purchase this was and am so thankful I can print with it, and have ZERO issues with clogging!!!
Thank you for your review. I am looking to get one for Christmas not only to try sublimation but also to the feature of converting designs to embroidery stitches sand the interaction of transferring directly to a scanncut or embroidery machine. Watched a brother sews tutorial with Angela Woolf and a brother educator, and it has much more capabilities than just sublimation. I'm excited to learn and thank you again.
I bought an Epson ET 2720 a couple years ago for sublimation. I’ve never had a problem and it was very budget friendly. I did swallow hard when I voided the warranty but got it for less than $200 so figured worse case I’d throw it out right? Then I wanted wide format of course 🤦🏻♀️ so got an Epson ET15000 and REALLY had anxiety and hyperventilated converting it at $699 plus tax! Happy with both but bottom line I have had Brother embroidery machines for 20 plus years so probably would have purchased this machine. However I love wide format so??? Thank you for this tutorial as always Angie. I’ve learned so much from you! Oh and budget is a concern for me like many others.
I am glad that another printer brand can give SAWGRASS some serious competiton. Thier ink is too expensive. I have a new sawgrass printer. Where i live, a cartrige is 90 euros. I hope sawgrass lowers thier ink cost. My word! Thank you Lady Angie, you are always a Pearl in your explications.
Conversion can be hectic with Epson. I purchased many used epsons on offerup, craigslist and etc. Ink drying and clogging with incorrect color was hectic so i gave it up. Saw grass was too expensive for the small print to me. Now i came across your video and now imma go for this. Thank you for the very good breakdown. Imma add this to my small print shop using my silhouette program to print. Thank you!
Great video you explained everything so well, watch others on the brother but they didn’t explain it well or give all the info you give great job Angie thank you! I have ET 3850 and so far love it have it a year and no problems, went away for three weeks came back thinking I will be in deep trouble but no it work just as good as it has been! I like the brother one I am sure if it had been out when I was looking would have brought it! Thank you again for a wonderful video! Hugs Liz x 😊
Thank you for this. My husband plans to buy me a sub printer for my birthday this spring. He asked me however, to pick out the one I want. I haven't been able to decide between the Brother SP1 and the Epson F170. I'm now leaning toward the Brother. However, I'm wondering about the cost of the Brother ink cartridges compared to the Epson refillable inks. When my regular HP home office printer finally died, I switched to the Epson 3850 because the quality was similar but the cost savings of refillable ink bottles compared to the HP cartridges was huge. Thank you again for sharing this information.
The Brother SP-1 can print 8.5"x14" Legal paper from the feed tray. Instructions to load legal paper start on page 25 of the PS-1 manual which you can download from the Brother SP-1 support page online.
I am in the process of researching sublimation printers and I really appreciate how you cover all the details. I was interested in an actual sublimation printer not converting an Epson so this video is very timely. My question has to do with a warranty on this Brother printer and is there an opportunity for an extended warranty?
I didn't see an extended warranty but it may have been there. I actually don't like extended warranties (personal preference) so I tend to overlook them. And I saw a mention of a year warranty in the documentation I believe.
@@AngieHolden thank you so much. I was going to get an eco tank to convert but I really wanted the warranty and I liked it does auto cleaning. Can’t wait to use it. It’s my gift so still in box 😂
Angie! Will or can you do a video on how this printer will work with design space? I'm so excited to find this video my hubby had just asked about the print!
Thanks for the awesome tutorial! I have a brother scan n cut and recently purchased the brother SP-1. I noticed that my sizes are a huge difference with the image settings in SP-1 compared to the exact same settings placed in the scan and cut. You mentioned a few sites that would allow for better settings for the sizing on the computer. Can you add that video link, please? Thanks a bunch 😊
I’m loving sublimation and your helpful videos! Have you done any videos on sublimating onto vinyl? Printable htv definitely doesn’t last long, but I’m really curious how long sublimation lasts on sublimation vinyl for dark and cotton shirts.
Thanks for the detailed review, Angie! I’ve scoured the internet for this printer in Canada, but even Brother’s Canadian website doesn’t list it. I’m currently using a converted EcoTank printer for sublimation. Would love to upgrade to this one. Hopefully it will be available here soon.
Thanks for reviewing this printer. I've been considering it. Just wondering if you can use plain copier paper at the beginning when you're checking the print nozzles etc. Instead of wasting the sublimation paper.
Very good review. My converted ecotank printer quit printing after maybe 20 images, To be fair I did not use it continually and it sat unused for two or three weeks at a time, so did the ink heads dry out? Maybe.. so when I saw this brother sublimation printer, I wanted to check it out. I will def make my purchase of one after watching this review. Thanks for being so thorough in all aspects of the review!
OMG, I am so excited about this new printer! I am not a fan of Sawgrass...my apologies to those who love it. And WOW, the much cheaper ink is awesome! Thanks Angie, for your demonstration!
I would like more information on this printer, such as what are the maintenance that a person would need to do on it? I had herd that there is not much they give you on how to check it if any problems. also do these have a waste tank that needs to be replaced when full ? how do you check for that ? Thank you for really making clear videos explaining things well.
It does the maintenance for you. No need to do that. Not sure what you are talking about as far as checking for problems? I printed a nozzle check page in this video and that is what you would do if you suspected an issue. All printers have some sort of waste ink tank that would get full and need to be replaced.
Hi Angie, thank you for the demonstration. I just opened my box today and set it up. You were a great help. I bought this to make some tumblers for my sons Destination Wedding. I want to put some palm trees and Mexico 2024. That is it. I don't event want to cover the entire tumbler. I was going to do them in all the same color. the ones I purchased on Esty are white letters, but I am not sure if this printer will do that. Could you please do a demonstration on how to do this. Also, do I need a heat press to put the image of the tumbler? This is so new for me, any help, advice would be appreciated. thank you Anna
After I watched your video on the Brother SP-1 printer I bought one . So far I love it. Only problem I've had is printing a red with dark red shadows on it. The dark red is coming out brown. I can't figure out how to fix it. Do you have any ideas? I hope you do more videos on the printer. Love your video's.
Thanks for making this informative video. I was leaning towards an Epson but I came across your video and will definitely be buying a brother one instead.
Your video has helped me select a replacement for my Epson Eco Tank. That has been miserable to work with. I have questions. 1. Could you explain again where a custom file is saved? Are files not able to be saved on our tablet/phone? Does this printer require only Brother cartridges and sub paper? Are you saying that a custom design can only be done on our tablet/phone and not our PC? Thank you for clearing up a few things for me!
If you use their app, I think the files you design are saved to the cloud. You will need to use Brother ink but any sublimation paper seems to work. You can print from any program on your PC but you can't use their software to do it. You would need another software.
I love mine !! ❤. I’m starting in the world of sublimation and it’s excellent for me This video explains everything about the printer. , for me was easy to set up . Soon I’m going to make Christmas gift , I’m just waiting that the mail delivered my Auto Heat tumbler press to start . Thank you for the video
Hey Angie, are the cartridges refillable? Or do they have to be replaced? Since I have no idea how long they last, it makes me wonder, but I don't need a lot. I loved this review and thank you so much! I just discovered it today, and it looks amazing. I started with a converted EC, per your old videos and finally had it go belly up because I did the super clean one too many times trying to get a clear print. This recycle of ink function sounds AMAZING! You are the best!
The problem is could be, the cost of the ink cartridges and how often are you going to go through them? I am tired of the Epson eco-tanks. I was thinking about just buying the Sawgrass instead. I’m definitely going to continue to follow you so I can see you use it more and more because I would love to see how many images you get all those cartridges..
The ink is definitely cheaper than a Sawgrass. I would say more expensive than an EcoTank conversion IF you can get the EcoTank to print all of the time and get good colors. I feel like the EcoTank wastes ink with the cleanings that you often have to do and also the time you spend correcting things.
Thanks for the review. I have been waiting ever since I saw it advertised, it no reviews. I’m looking at the sg1000 also; because I’m new and not interested in too much maintenance.
Are you going to give us a more recent video update on this machine, like how it's still performing from this original video. Mostly want to know if there are any clog issues and how many ink cartridges have you gone through. Thank you
So I have been using this one for every video since filming this one to really give it a test. Zero issues. Zero clogs. I have yet to replace the cartridges.
Hi Angie, thank you for the review, after seeing this video I bought this machine. I will be traveling for 6 to 7 weeks, at that time if I leave the printer plugged in will it be alright I'm worried about ink drying. Any suggestions?
Hi Angie, does this printer work well with Cricut Design Space? I’m totally new to sublimating. Thank you for this awesome review and time for answer and reading my comment.
Hi there! Thank you so much for this video! It was so helpful and insightful. I do have a question can you try to do a larger size design like one where you have to feed the paper through the back! Mainly looking for if I do a large design on back of sweatshirt or tshirt. Thank you!
I am very interested in purchasing a brother sublimation printer after viewing your video to start my sublimation journey. However, do you have to use brother paper and supplies other than their ink?
Just subscribed to your channel. Like your explanation style. OK, here is my specific question that NO other sublimation expert has expressed when comparing printers. PRINT RESOLUTION???? I print small trophy style type signs that show company logos onto metal blanks. These logos can have a lot of detail in them, so crispness of detail is vital. We have used Sawgrass printers with good results, but as many know, the ink is very expensive and you do not get much for the cost. I would love to see your response or even better a video for all us hard blank clients who need high resolution results.
I want to start doing sublimation for my business. I currently use vinyl and it is a lot of work weeding the designs especially when my customers want a lot of different colors. My question - how often do you have to change the ink cartridges?
This will be my first sublimation purchase...was considering Sawgrass 1000 for the bigger size paper. But, do you use Tabloid size much? If so, what for? Thankfully yours, Cheryl
For the price, I really love my converted eco tank, I pay around the price for one of the brother cartridges, and get all 4 colors, and in 2 years I have only had 1 clog, and that was on me because I had not used the printer in a month, because life happened. I started making sure to print a full color page once a week if I do not use the printer, and have yet to ever have another issue with it. So I would not recommend an eco tank to anyone, if they did not use it on a regular basis, the clog was a huge pain and took multiple days to get it working again, but again, I feel like that happens on any printer that sits (aside from the ones that try to keep the ink moving) I do however, love those colors both on print, and on the printer haha =)
@@AngieHolden I know some that absolutely hate them and have so many issues with color and then the clogs, to be honest, if I had more than the 1 clog, I probably would get rid of it because of how much of a pain it was lol
On the three printers that you talked about in this video you didn't really cover sublimation paper Can the brother sublimation printer use any sublimation paper? Or does it have to be paper from the manufacturer? These are questions for the other two printers also.
I understand that you can use other brands of paper. Do you have any information on approximately how many copies/prints ink cartridges can make before replacing for cost efficiency? Regular Brother printers seem like ink needs replaced more often. Also, if one ink runs low, message tells you to replace cartridge or won’t print. Can you print photos from your phone camera roll? Thank you! Love your channel.
Hi! Have you tried using other brands of sublimation paper with this printer? I’m considering this one since you can print somewhat bigger and I’m liking the app feature. Also, thanks for this review it was very helpful!
Hey @@AngieHoldenwhich would you prefer, Brother sublimation printer or converted Epson 15000? I plan to primarily do t-shirts and I’m trying to decide if I should do a true sub printer or get the printer with larger print ability.
A couple of more questions since I have since bought it, Angie. Doe the printer "self clean" itself? I read somewhere that it does this periodically to prevent clogging. Also, does it have a feature where I can set it to automatically mirror my image?
Hey Angie, great video! Very informative. Can you tell me if the ink on the Brother dries faster than the converted Epson? I had to put my Epson prints in front of a fan for at least 24 hours before I could cut the images in my Brother ScanNCut. Very disappointing. Now the Epson is clogged so on my way to get the Brother. Thanks again.
Is that printing on sublimation paper? They should not be that wet. If you are printing on something like Easysubli, I have not tried it with this printer.
Yes, coming out of the Epson they would be wet enough that it would get ink on the rollers of the ScanNCut and then streak the rest of the page. That happened after waiting about an hour. Occasionally 24 hours wasn't long enough. So glad I got the Brother. I printed two images without any problems last night. I'm glad I switched.@@AngieHolden
when you run the test papers, do you need to use the sublimation paper> it seems like you had to use 2 pieces and then throw them away! Also can u use other sublimation paper?
You can use regular copy paper on those first prints. I just had that paper beside me. And I have used other sublimation paper brands since the filming of this and they all worked great!
New to sublimation. Just bought epson Ecotank 15000. Have not converted it yet. Saw video for brother sublimation printer. Is there a brother sublimation printer for a larger format like the epson ecotank 15009?
Very good information regarding this sublimation printer. Is there any way you can do a video using a design software to design something. I got this printer when it first came out. I have not used it as i wanted to see some videos regarding it. I am thrilled to know that you do not have to use the Artspira software although it sounds like it is very convienent if you want to print from your ipad or any other mobile device. Also, If you can show where and how to get the drivers so you can connect from a PC or Mac that would be great 2. I know it sounds like alot but even if you did this is a 2 part video that would be perfect. Thanks you for this video and I hope you can do more videos on this Brother Sublimation Printer. I don't see my being able to even set up my printer until the first of the year. I wanted to make sure I got one before they ran out with the holiday season a head of us. Thank you
This same thing would apply for designing: ruclips.net/video/kfmzrLncghk/видео.html And I just used their website address that is in the packaging when you open it to get the driver for the printer!
How long does the ink lasts before you have had to purchase a new printer cartridge set? An average that you have experienced since your first purchase?
My question is, do you HAVE to use Brother ink for this sublimation printer or are there any other ink options that will still fit the insert? Also is there another app on your phone, to use with this printer?
Hi Angie, thanks for another thorough review. I have a quick question though. Is Cricut Design space usable for printing designs for sublimation blanks or do I have to use Canva or something similar? Sublimation is a tricky concept for my head to wrap around. 🤣 My hubs got me a mug heat press for Christmas and I’m shopping for a sublimation printer when I came across your video. I have two Brother sewing machines and I prefer them over other brands because they are so user friendly. I was thinking of getting the sawgrass sg500 but I’ve read some terrible reviews about the software and the incredible price for the ink. This printer seems like a close second, but nearly as expensive.
In a conversation with another person you stated epson has a a sublimation printer. How do you feel that printer compares to the Sawgrass and the new brother
That is the F170 I mention in this video. It is still ink bottles so a bit harder to setup. Colors are pretty good. Printing is slower. It does still clog and does not do its own maintenance.
I have a question. The printer on Amazon shows 3 prices. The $399 says just printer no ink or paper. So that being said, the price would be more inline with Sawgrass when adding at least some ink the price jumps $524 and $555 for both ink and paper. I believe Sawgrass is about $576 for start up printer. Which did you inbox? The prints did look great that you completed.
On the $399 , it does come with all the ink colors plus 10 sheets of sublimation paper. If you scroll down almost to the bottom, it says " what's in the box ? "
So I'm a little confused about printing from a PC. Should I create my design in canva then save it as a PNG to my Google drive or somewhere. Then when I want to print it to the sublimation printer, I just upload it through the app from my Google drive?
I would create in Canva then pull it up on your computer and just click print and pick the printer. That is how I have been doing it without issue. You just don't have a Brother program for designing.
Hi Angie, I was wondering if you can show, how to refill the cartridge for this machine and what kind of sublimation ink brand is recommended? Thanks in advance.. ❤️🫶🏻❤️
Im a long-term ScanNCut user. I love it, but as far as customer service (lol) goes, it's... suboptimal. They're nice, but extremely unhelpful. And documentation for anything beyond the basics is non existent. Again, i love my scanncut, but I've learned most of what i know from RUclips and trial and error. Their equipment is quality though, so I'd imagine this is too. I'm doing pretty well with my ecotank printer - i did a lot of research on color profiles and have been satisfied. I'm starting to get more - and bigger - jobs though so will be investing in an SG1000 soon. I really need a wider format printer, and it's faster too which would be very helpful
If you want to cut the HTV, you will need a Cricut machine. There is printable HTV but most of those are for inkjet printers. There are things like EasySubli that you can print on a sublimation printer but again a Cricut would be needed for most cuts.
I am thinking of getting the brother but can’t find this one in the uk and having so much problems with the sawgrass (does the sawgrass need drivers added?) do the brothers deliver to the uk and would it still be in warranty being in the uk also can you use different sublimation paper in the brother? I’d really appreciate your advice as your very knowledgeable with sublimation 🙂

Crossing my fingers!
Thanks for reviewing this printer. I've been considering it. Just wondering if you can use plain copier paper at the beginning when you're checking the print nozzles etc. Instead of wasting the sublimation paper.
Yes you can!
Happy to help!
Maybe try this: ruclips.net/video/KdCCiSY2qGk/видео.html
After I watched your video on the Brother SP-1 printer I bought one . So far I love it. Only problem I've had is printing a red with dark red shadows on it. The dark red is coming out brown. I can't figure out how to fix it. Do you have any ideas? I hope you do more videos on the printer. Love your video's.
I do not. I haven't had any issues and have used the printer for a variety of projects. I don't use red a ton though!
Thanks for making this informative video. I was leaning towards an Epson but I came across your video and will definitely be buying a brother one instead.
CONGRATULATIONS, really useful video! I have a question. Does this printer work well with other ink brands?
I would only use brother ink in this printer.
It really was so easy to set up!
They have to be replaced.
@@AngieHolden I bought it!!
Thank you for the comprehensive review!
Any limitations you’ve experienced around fabric types?
You need at least 65% polyester content in any fabric that you sublimate on.
@@AngieHolden thanks again!
Thanks for the review. I have been waiting ever since I saw it advertised, it no reviews. I’m looking at the sg1000 also; because I’m new and not interested in too much maintenance.
Glad I could help!
Love your reviews. Do you like this one better than the ET170?
I do actually!
Hi Angie, thank you for the review, after seeing this video I bought this machine. I will be traveling for 6 to 7 weeks, at that time if I leave the printer plugged in will it be alright I'm worried about ink drying. Any suggestions?
Yep the Brother printer should be fine!
Thanks Angie for your review and sharing this
Thanks for watching!
Where is the best place to get ink refills for this machine? The prices I’ve seen are quite high. Thank you for the helpful review!
The ink is actually less expensive then Sawgrass and it does last a long time!
Just what I needed to hear about this printer, I think I will be giving a try. Thank you
Have fun!
Great video, Angie. After having it for 7 months, have you had any issues?
No issues! It has been a great printer!
Good to hear!
Hi Angie, does this printer work well with Cricut Design Space? I’m totally new to sublimating. Thank you for this awesome review and time for answer and reading my comment.
Yes it will!
With using the Brother sublimation printer is a heat press machine also required to get the design on to the Tshirt
Yes you do need heat for application.
Hi there! Thank you so much for this video! It was so helpful and insightful. I do have a question can you try to do a larger size design like one where you have to feed the paper through the back! Mainly looking for if I do a large design on back of sweatshirt or tshirt. Thank you!
It would be similar you would just print the paper through the back instead of the front. I have printed large paper through mine.
I am very interested in purchasing a brother sublimation printer after viewing your video to start my sublimation journey. However, do you have to use brother paper and supplies other than their ink?
I have been using a wide variety of sublimation paper with it and haven't had any issues. I would stick with their ink.
Which do you prefer...Brother vs. Sawgrass (and their software) not considering price difference? Thank you!
Both are good printers. I have been struggling with the Sawgrass software lately so I have not been using that printer and just using the Brother.
❤❤thank you for your support
Just subscribed to your channel. Like your explanation style. OK, here is my specific question that NO other sublimation expert has expressed when comparing printers. PRINT RESOLUTION???? I print small trophy style type signs that show company logos onto metal blanks. These logos can have a lot of detail in them, so crispness of detail is vital. We have used Sawgrass printers with good results, but as many know, the ink is very expensive and you do not get much for the cost. I would love to see your response or even better a video for all us hard blank clients who need high resolution results.
I have had good luck with this printer on several surfaces so far!
I want to start doing sublimation for my business. I currently use vinyl and it is a lot of work weeding the designs especially when my customers want a lot of different colors. My question - how often do you have to change the ink cartridges?
I have been using this printer a lot and have yet to change them! They seem to last a long time!
This will be my first sublimation purchase...was considering Sawgrass 1000 for the bigger size paper. But, do you use Tabloid size much? If so, what for?
Thankfully yours, Cheryl
I actually rarely use a larger size paper so I have not worried about it yet!
Can you use any brand of sublimation paper?
Yes you can!
Some people have really good luck and others do not. It seems to be just random.
@@AngieHolden I know some that absolutely hate them and have so many issues with color and then the clogs, to be honest, if I had more than the 1 clog, I probably would get rid of it because of how much of a pain it was lol
It is SUCH a pain!! I never want to mess with a clog again!
@@AngieHolden I feel and understand that pain lol
On the three printers that you talked about in this video you didn't really cover sublimation paper Can the brother sublimation printer use any sublimation paper? Or does it have to be paper from the manufacturer? These are questions for the other two printers also.
I have been testing a wide variety of papers and they all seem to work with this machine. I also use a wide variety with my other printers.
What the cost of papers?@@AngieHolden
Just look up Sublimation Paper. I like the Hiipoo brand and A-Sub a lot!
I am unsure of how many prints you can make. There are just too many variables to give a firm number. Yes you can print from your camera roll.
Hi! Have you tried using other brands of sublimation paper with this printer? I’m considering this one since you can print somewhat bigger and I’m liking the app feature. Also, thanks for this review it was very helpful!
I have actually! I have been experimenting and any paper seems to work!
Hey @@AngieHoldenwhich would you prefer, Brother sublimation printer or converted Epson 15000? I plan to primarily do t-shirts and I’m trying to decide if I should do a true sub printer or get the printer with larger print ability.
@@AngieHolden what do you think about trying to use epson sub ink in this brother printer?
Hi there! Thank you for sharing your experiences. Will it work on black or dark colors tshirt?
Sublimation does not work on dark colors. Only on light color polyester.
A couple of more questions since I have since bought it, Angie. Doe the printer "self clean" itself? I read somewhere that it does this periodically to prevent clogging. Also, does it have a feature where I can set it to automatically mirror my image?
It does automatically clean itself so no need to worry about it. I have not seen a way to auto mirror.
Thank you, I appreciate your response, Angie.
So when you’re printing out the setup sheets are you using the actual sublimation paper? Isn’t that like wasting it?
You can use regular paper. This was all I had at the time.
Maybe i missed it. What size paper does this print? Thanks for this video.
8 1/2 x 14 is the maximum size.
when you run the test papers, do you need to use the sublimation paper> it seems like you had to use 2 pieces and then throw them away! Also can u use other sublimation paper?
You can use regular copy paper on those first prints. I just had that paper beside me. And I have used other sublimation paper brands since the filming of this and they all worked great!
Are you going to test DTF film? Do you know if it’s compatible with this printer?
I will NOT be testing this. I actually do not like the DTF hack used with a sublimation printer for a variety of reasons.
Did you need to add an icc profile or did you find it works well with the printer’s color profile?
You don't need an ICC profile if you purchase a printer that is made for sublimation like this one.
New to sublimation. Just bought epson Ecotank 15000. Have not converted it yet. Saw video for brother sublimation printer. Is there a brother sublimation printer for a larger format like the epson ecotank 15009?
There is not one yet.
Angie, how does the ink cost and usage compare with the Epson F170? Thank you!!
Ink usage is so hard to compare. I would say comparable however there are really too many factors to consider.
Thank you for the review! Question? Is it possible to use the brother with no computer, just using a iPad with the app?
Yes you can!
Thank you so very much!
Now that you’ve had the brother for a couple months - is it holding up?
It is! Still loving it!
Thank you
This same thing would apply for designing: ruclips.net/video/kfmzrLncghk/видео.html
And I just used their website address that is in the packaging when you open it to get the driver for the printer!
Is there a full set of inks that come with the printer, or do I need to purchase a set?
It does come with a set of inks. However, those inks will be used to charge the lines so it will not show "full" after the printer is set up.
How long does the ink lasts before you have had to purchase a new printer cartridge set? An average that you have experienced since your first purchase?
I have not replaced the cartridges yet and I have made a ton of projects.
My question is, do you HAVE to use Brother ink for this sublimation printer or are there any other ink options that will still fit the insert? Also is there another app on your phone, to use with this printer?
You would want to stick with only brother ink. I didn't try any other apps.
Hi, I was wondering about the ink for the sublimation..How well does it hold up after multiple washes? Is it just as vibrant?
Sublimation ink becomes a part of the fabric. It will last longer than the shirt itself. There is very little fading over time.
@@AngieHolden thank you so much
Hi Angie, thanks for another thorough review.
You can use Design Space or another program. Try this video: ruclips.net/video/nOGPlhJ5rvg/видео.html
The just "printer" option comes with ink and paper in the box. The other options are for ADDITIONAL paper and ink.
Do you have a print comparison between the brother and the sawgrass?
I would say the print quality is comparable.
Can you use any kind of sublimation paper in the Brother sublimation printer?
Yes you can.
Hi Angie, I was wondering if you can show, how to refill the cartridge for this machine and what kind of sublimation ink brand is recommended? Thanks in advance.. ❤️🫶🏻❤️
You would ONLY use Brother ink in this printer. And you would just buy new cartridges and install them the same way you do the new ones.
Thanks for the info on customer service! That is helpful! I actually hope Brother releases a larger version of this!
Thank-you for sharing your experience
My pleasure!
Can I use this printer to prints stickers and cards or it is only used for fabric sublimation ?
This is only for sublimation.
Cricut noob here but I want to start doing sublimation. Will it only work on polyester material or can it also work on cotton material?

Can you use any sublimation paper with the brother sublimation printer
Yes you can.
I do have a question can you use htv vinyl in the brother sp1 for a shirt or do you have to do all the htv on the cricut
I am not sure about international shipment. The Sawgrass does have software/drivers. And you can use any sublimation paper in the Brother printer.
How long do these cartridges last compared to the Sawgrass and Epson?
The amount of time ink lasts in any printer depends on what you print so it is hard to judge.
So did you say you can scan a picture and it will print it, and if so do you know if they have a bigger printer that does the same?
You can! They only have this sublimation printer on the market currently.

I received my Brother SP1 printer. Is Silhouette Studio Business Edition compatible with the Brother SP1 printer?
Definitely! You can print from any program!
Can you use any sublimation paper in the Brother printer or must it be the Brother paper?
Any works.
