      @@RainbowDoubleDash Yeah I'm coming from P3Dv4 and X-Plane 11 and this is a world apart. And I thought XP was pretty. All of these little features and things. I hope this performs better then XP as well, because I'd only ever get 35-40 fps and in cities or around too many trees under 30. I can't wait for the 737. Also I hope the 717 come too. The 717 was my absolute favorite to fly in FSX/P3D.

      @@RainbowDoubleDash its not weird, just the industry taking advantage because they know there was no competition. Also, none of the other companies were big enough to pull off what FS 2020 is doing. Microsoft, in my opinion, is sending a clear message that they want in on the simulator market. They have the manpower to make them better, and can do it for cheaper. They'll make the $$$ back tenfold as the game improves. As it stands now, the community is split between 3-4 different Sim's. But Once they get "study quality" paid planes in the game, itll be the ONLY sim ppl will play. I just hope they dont get greedy at some point

    Real Airbus pilot for a European airline here. We wouldn’t get asked about opening doors on the ground when they’re disarmed - the senior cabin crew member / purser will coordinate this.
    The A320 doesn’t have a long cargo bay, that door enables access to things like centre fuel tanks etc. Of course the bay is a little longer on a A321.
    It would be good if the PIC had to work with ops rather than ground to get these services!

    • @robertgottwald5682
      @robertgottwald5682 4 года назад +6

      Indeed, on many large European airports aircraft will also receive catering while there is no crew on board. The Catering staff then docks at the door, knocks and if nothing is heard opens the door from the outside themselves.
      Similarly, you do not normally have to request a GPU, that is generally always plugged in the moment the aircraft is on blocks.
      Waiting for fuel trucks for ages is familiar and seems highly realistic

  • @matthewdunphy8524
    @matthewdunphy8524 4 года назад +243

    All of these features are an easy $40+ add on purchase in any of the flight simulator platforms up to this point. I'm sure some people will release some mods or low-cost addons to make things more realistic and create more appropriate textures and liveries, but this being in the base sim is just amazing and really exciting for the flight sim community.
    I'll be honest though, that pushback system is pretty bad. That *complete* failure to line up with the runway on ILS approach is concerning too but I'm pretty sure looking at the cockpit you didn't have the jet configured properly for ILS approach (I fly 737 in sim mostly so I'm not sure).

      Not correct, I am a 777 pilot and am doors trained (we all are). If catering knock on the door, and crew are not around or busy I will open the door. Also, during the last few months during Covid, with no crew on board the pilots are the only ones on the aircraft for freighter flights.

    • @TomAndreasstrem
      @TomAndreasstrem 4 года назад +44

      Michael Buchanan Well obviously you could, but in this video it comes across as the door being opened without the pilot doing it is unrealistic. I would imagine that the pilot opening the doors for catering is the exception rather than the rule on an A320.

    • @atomicunderground9971
      @atomicunderground9971 4 года назад +7

      As far as US Mainline and Regionals, I have never heard the Captain give permission for Catering to open the door. They can visually see that the door slide is disarmed from outside and proceed to do their jobs. It is automatic as long as the beacon is off on the aircraft. So it may depend on what airline you work for and where in the world you work. I specifically work as a Part 121 Captain on a CRJ-7 for a company based in southern Utah contracted to a company with a huge American flag on its tail that will not be named ;-)

    As a ground services worker at Orlando International Airport (MCO) I can say that aircraft are actually externally powered via a cable that's on the jetway. Once the jetway is connected, we attach shore power to the aircraft unless the pilot requests we don't, then they use the APU.
    Also just a small tidbit cool fact. Southwest has their own airside terminal in A. Delta shares their airside with international flights. American, United, and Spirit are all together on an airside. Finally Jetblue, Frontier, and other domestics share the final airside.

    • @himeskids
      @himeskids 4 года назад

      @@wb6anp Both actually. We have in-ground systems that use a regulating tug of sorts that the refueling operator uses to monitor flow and whatnot. These are mostly used by airlines with their own servicing equipment.
      But we also have trucks that are primarily operated by Menzies Aviation. They're mostly used for smaller craft or smaller airlines that don't do their own servicing.

  • @gumball20000
    @gumball20000 4 года назад +25

    The fact that external power was available at the start may be because they're assuming external power would be connected from the jet bridge. Most big airports don't use external GPUs to power the aircraft.

    • @SternLX
      @SternLX 4 года назад +2

      I was wondering that as well. Just about every US Airport that I've seen provides ground power from the Jetway. Which in turn is connected before the AC has powered down. Even if a AC is rolled up to a Gate cold and dark(from an off gate parking spot or Maint.), Ground power from the Jetway gets connected by default.

      Yeah, but... they're 90% of the way there anyway. Don't get me wrong - this looks amazing - but to be honest I don't want there to be ground power available unless the ground power is actually hooked up. If it's that much of an issue for users, then just have the tool tip over the ground power switch say "request ground power truck" in red or something. And if users really just can't be bothered to request ground power, they can always just start the APU using battery power (if the batteries aren't low).

    On the topic of the GND-PWR button:
    Tecnicaly you dont need the GND-PWR Cart when you are at a gate. Most, if not all Gates have a GND-PWR connector on the Jetway. The ground crew just conects the plug from the jetway to the Airplane. Power carts are mostly used on remote stands and GA planes.
    It would be cool, if you are parked at the gate and have the jetway connected, that the GND-PWR is available without the need for a GND-PWR cart.

      Meaning that the system is modular, if you tell the game where the door, bays and so on, on a model then the ground service will be able to work making it easier to implement more planes in future (maybe even mods or community models).
      However what is really interesting is that compared to many other sims the work has been done here, DCS (my current gold standard for flight sims) just has menu's no ground crew to speak of, apart from the carrier. Finally comparing the 'buggy-nes' of the ground service to the quality of the flying it looks like the priorities where good as 'perfect ground services' would be a fancy yet gimmicky sales point

    Actually, most of that operation is correct. As others have said, you need to turn of the ai co-pilot or he'll take over calling atc for things way too early. Great while already flying, but is too aggressive on the ground. As for caterer and baggage handling, that is in fact correct. Especially baggage is handled by the ground crew and not from the pilot. There is in fact a button to open it in a panel beside the door.
    Next up, pushback. As mention, there is supposed to be some callouts from the pushback to check from you before they make their moves. Likewise, they should already have a designated direction to pushback you into before pushback commences, so you shouldn't even need to call out directions. Third, and the most egregious of it all. Where are the wing walkers. There should be a pair of wing walkers during pushback to make sure the wings stay clear of obstacles. Likewise, where is the person call out you are clear to fire up each engine. As for people standing around and not getting out of the way. Well, if they have nothing better to do (or really, because another plane will be arriving shortly after you leave they need to service), as long as they stay behind the red line, they are safe from you and allowed to just stand there.

    Catering: Just as a heads up, the "little bits of trolleys and stuff" are called a Bar Set (Bar for short). This includes the carts that are used to serve onboard/store extra food, the canisters for the tea and coffee, crisps and airshopping (depending on the airline), bags for tea and coffee, airshopping, etc.
    Fuel: That's definitely a driver that has dinged a plane, or three, at some point in their job...

      In my airline, we call the trolleys, half carts and full carts.
      Although, the fuel truck should already be there. The engineers start the refueling and then the captain gives the final figure needed. Otherwise, planes would always depart late. (this applies to schedule flights, obviously for private jets and other non schedule flights, it's necessary to call for fuel and probably wait)

    AFAIK, and from my personal experience working at an airport, the GPU is generally plugged in shortly after the plane arrives at the gate; at least that’s how we did it for AA in OKC.

    I think the fuel truck is related to dynamic pathing. It'd make sense for the fuel truck to work on taxiway pathing to reach your pad, but then it needs to dynamically calculate the approach path to the correct fuel locations. Since the game allows mod aircraft, it likely does this so it can react appropriately to non standard aircraft dimensions/locations. End result, instead of figuring the pathing when it reaches the tail, it's constantly recalculating position vs dimensions, hence the slowdown.
    Maybe they'll make it easier for mod creators to set dimensions and fueling locations and have the fuel truck routines read that once, decide the pathing once, and just follow that?
    Just a guess though

    Thanks for an entertaining video. I did notice another minor visual bug; maybe someone else already has, but I'm not going to read 1100+ comments to find out -- the second set of front wheels on the fuel truck don't steer. They've been steering in the real world since at least the mid-20th century. If I actually do acquire MSFS 2020, I'm going to subscribe.

    One big thing is that the front cargo of an Airbus isnt actually loaded with the baggages itself. Its always done with containers. Only the rear bulk is holding the raw luggage. Also that whole radio to ground crew is really weird. IRL everything is done automatically. No pilot has to call for that other than they forget about it.

    I'm wondering if the premature pushback and taxi clearance is because the "virtual copilot" is handling the comms? Seems like the radio transmissions are originating from the AC, like a rogue first officer is doing it without you being ready! Edit: I typed too soon as you addressed that theory as well!
