a rule of thumb for a 3 degree glide path to the runway, take current speed divide by half and add a (0) to the end of it. So 100kt/2= 50 add 0 you get 500fpm decent. Learned that from a pilot long ago.

This a fabulous tutorial series. Easily the best I've ever encountered, regardless of genre. I've been doing flight simulators for 30 years and I've never come close to learning so much before. Fun, comprehensive and calm. Each lesson is a delight.

I remember my instructor telling me basically the same thing about the relationship between the approach and the landing. He would often point out other planes on short final and their wonky approaches, and then have me watch their landing. Pretty much all resulted in bounces or off center line touch downs where the plane wasn't lined up with the runway causing some noticeable swerves. All good landings come from a nice stabilized approach. If the approach is unstable, the landing won't be good and might be dangerous. If the approach doesn't look or feel right, it's always better to do the go-around instead of trying to "save" the landing. And in real life never be embarrassed about doing a go around. Every good pilot recognizes it as a show of good judgement, which is a respectable thing. (But every pilot also judges every landing they watch! So make it nice by setting up a nice stable approach.)

Hei squirrel, I really like your videos, because they seem very helpful for beginners!
Just a small addition from me:
    - When landing small planes you usally do this by initiating a stall, so the airplane settles itself down the runway (as you mentioned, just hold the airplane parallel to the runway and it will tell you when its going to land)
    - Something more advanced: when flaring, give it a little kick of left ruder (or release a bit of right ruder if its being kicked) to stop a reaction force which will pull you to the right when flaring

Select an altitude with the altitude knob. Choose the method to get there, typically VS (where you define the vertical speed to climb/descent) or FLC (where you define the airspeed you want to climb/descent). Auto throttle is only available in the big liner planes.
To make it do turn and follow a specific path, you would need to create flight plans, then activate it, and click on the NAV button with the AP engaged.

This is so, so much better than all the in-game instruction. Thanks!

Superb tuition - natural born teacher - thanks so much, looking forward all the time to more. Watching seagulls land on chimney pots in the wind - they must also have done your tutorials!

great video. I now find myself repeating pitch for speed, throttle for verticle speed when i get into those situations.

I watched this as I made my first approach to an airport on my first flight. Landed that Cessna on my first attempt! Thanks! Well done!

In the approach, keep the runway in the same relative position in the windshield view, ie not moving up or down in your view. You’ll land successfully if all the other settings are correct.

Next video, maybe mention the "Visual approach slope indicator" (white/red lights that show you if your angle is correct).

These are great. Could you do one on taking off and landing a pattern and perhaps in that one entering the pattern?

I love these tutorials squirrel, even as an experienced sim gamer it's good to go back to the basics :) if you could though, could you do a video on navigation please? It's not covered at all by the in-game tutorials and I have no idea how to navigate beyond using the magic sky markers or just following a road I know from real life. Thanks!
