The whole digital menu thing is annoying AF. I like technology, but trying to look at a menu on your phone is just stupid. Like the reporter mentioned, scrolling, zooming in/out, etc is not a great way to look at a full menu.
Plus, IDK about you, but I have enough crap on my phone and am always having to stop and clear it out so I can use it. My phone's 5 years old - which doesn't seem old to me, especially for something that costs so much, but apparently it's about obsolete in today's economy.
Soon you won’t have a choice but to comply with the standards. That’s where this is going…
Just don't input sensitive information into a site you got to by QR code, period. Another convenience ruined by scammers.
Never use a qr to get the restaurant menu, access their website on your phone and find the menu there.
Yet every restaurant & bar bullies you to do so 🙄
Don’t have to eat at those restaurants. Just leave and go somewhere else. When did consumers became so helpless?

Easy enough. Don't scan them at ALL, for anything. Find another way.
Exactly why I do not use my electronic device for banking, travel or shopping. Old school; they are lucky I use a debit card on occasion. Cash is best.
Don’t use debit card. Only use credit card if you must use a card. Debit cards are directly tied to your bank account and is not protected by federal law in case of theft or fraud. Credit cards have better protection if lost or stolen and fraudulently used.
If it smells like a scam…it’s a scam. Every time.

I don’t like looking at that little screen, also when I out to eat I don’t like to take out my phone I want to enjoy the time with who I’m dining with.
Give me a dang physical menu any day. I loathe QR codes. Also, as a graphic designer, they’re unsightly.
In my experience I have never actually scanned a QR code to access a restaurant menu.
But I think this has put us on alert.
Scammers can happen everywhere, especially when you least expect it.

It is difficult to know what to trust. When you are out and going around you may be in a hurry to pay for something, and not be attentive. Best to use your credit card using Google Pay or Apple Pay, than scan a QR code and end up on a web page that is difficult to know if it is authentic or not. I prefer use my credit card with the tap feature, or insert it to use the chip for paying.
When using an ATM or paying at the gas pump I carefully inspect the entry slot of the card reader and the key pad. If the card reader slot looks very new compared to the rest of the machine this may be an indication of tampering. Also, give a good tug and pull on the reader unit to see if it will come off. It has to be very solid in place. I also look above the keypad to see if there is a camera device facing the keypad. Best to cover the keypad with your other hand while keying in the pass key. If you have doubts don't use your card!

Can we be done with QR codes already? I never scan them for anything, no thanks. I do check menus online but I find the restaurant's website to do so. Just don't make me download a PDF of the menu.

As a restaurant owner, doing digital menus save us money to keep our costs down and better for environment, which no one cares about now a days. All about me, me me. Easier to update menus online vs reprinting each week. Whiners.
Someone always suffers, however. In this case it's your local printing company.
As long as your online menu isn't a PDF I have to download because I'm not downloading files from a website I don't know I can trust (even if it's a legit website, security might not be great). I won't scan a QR code but will look for the website. But have some physical menus for older people who aren't very tech savvy.
@@XSemperIdem5 Right?! Who has room on their phone for another PDF? If a restaurant needs to change menus (prices?) that often maybe use a large blackboard or something? Or provide tablets that are picked up when the ordering is done... or an electronic board like McDonald's uses now.
I'm not interested in working on my tiny little phone screen when I go out to eat and I'm not upgrading my perfectly fine five-year-old smartphone to make it easier for businesses that can write off the costs of printing or upgrading to electronic menus that customers can use.
Refusing to buy a new phone every 2-3 years is also better for the environment, but nobody cares about that either.
What kind of restaurant changes menus every week anyway? Farm to table maybe? I can see what they wouldn't want to print every week, but at least have an option for people who need it - like a blackboard or electronic board that people who need an option can use.
