Old head said,”fish is fish to me”😂😂😂legit funniest part
That weird-looking fish is a moonfish AKA lookdown. They taste amazing, give it a try.
Never tried it! I’ll have to keep one next time
I believe that's a lookdown, never caught one yet.Great video.
Hey thonny episode was really good especially you catching pompano that's awesome😊😊
I just want to say thank you on behalf of the Pelican on and thank you for being a decent human being
I'm going to roast a Pelican for thanksgiving this year, should be tender and juicy.
When freezing left over bait it must have saltwater in the bag, it really helps the bait after thawing from being so mushy and soft. I netted a 5gl bucket of greenies at the Skyway last week and brought home 1.5gls of saltwater to help preserve my bait and it works like a champ.
Hey thonny episode was really good 👍💯
Hey thonny the fish you caught is actually a real good fish to eat it's called look down fish I usually get a lot in the net when it's a full moon if you get 20 of them in the net it's a good fish to eat buddy 😊😊
Tough is an understatement with fishing lately.
Haven’t had that much time to fish but when I do it’s not the best.
Nice video Thonny
Appreciate it man! It’s only gonna get better from here!
I had to pull lures out of 2 pelicans at fort desoto this year thonny. hopefully a bunch of people will see you don't have to be afraid of them to help them out. it does help to have 2 people to get the hook out so ask for help. some rugged florida dude will help you.
Caught a keeper gag in the afternoon at that first spot you were at, a 24.5" gag. Also caught 3 13" snapper so it was a great day today! All of which were on mojarra.
Awesome! 💪
If only we could all have a Thonny by our sides in the event we hook a pelican. Hasn't happened to me yet but thanks to one of your videos (and FWC info) I know what to do in case it does. Great video!
The water's definitely better in the past is because on the east side you have problems seeing sand holes in 3 ft of water
That fish is a lookdown!
Look down fish
Aka Scottie Pippin fish
😂@@kenny.g727
🌴 pomp’s, snapper , 🤔 whatever wants to arm wrestle, yea sheepies get picky but sometimes you can get them to bite chunks of oyster or barnacles as they like to graze , I like fishing at the place you were at except the parking sucks there , and the dock likes to jump out at my line 😂. Hey that look down would be worth some big money at the aquarium store , live .
maybe I will see you out at fort desoto this winter hunting those big trout thonny. I'll be looking.
Can’t wait for winter time fishing! 💪
That is definitely a look down ( sometimes called a moonfish which is actually very similar). Good eats but you would need a few to make a meal. Filet it from the lateral line to the shoulder. Similar to pompano.
Hey Thon,
Sad to hear about the sewage spill affecting the Skyway, especially for the Gag Grouper season.
Always enjoy your video’s, thanks for sharing.
Old Marv👍
Add Mangrove snappers a very good fish to eat what's your favorite way to make it😊😊
I have been to Fort de Soto twice fishing for mangrove with live pinfish and I could see them on the rocks, put my pinfish on their face, not a single bite in two days.... Debbie did us dirty, The Water its starting to clear at Fort de Soto, but still a little muddy.
Purdy work Thonny!
Thanks!
Enjoy Thonn!Have a Nice day..
Glad you enjoyed it! 👊
@@Thonny I love watching and learn fishing with the experts like yourself.
Ty ..Thon...are u heading Skyway Tuesday for grouper
Out in the shipping channel right now!
@@Thonny Nice..let's go
You should make a reel/short out of the pelican save
Thanks for the advice! 👊
Nice man. You should show us how you rig your pompano jigs
Huge fan of your channel could I ask what camera and mic you like to use for your vlogging? I also love your custom rods are you able to share what brand or tackle store you go to for them
@@kevinflabouyfishing5739 I appreciate it! 👊 I use a Canon R5 with a 15-35mm rf lens with Peter McKinnon VND filter. For the mic I have a couple. One Rode wireless mic pro and a Rode video mic pro+ shotgun mic. I get my gear at St Pete fishing outfitters 💪
Look down also call moonie
That fish is a "look down" that's what I've know them as
Fish is fish to me lolol
Didn't know there was lookdown on the bay. It's likely due to the hurricane that carried them here.
Down in Sebastian people stack up on those moon fish , ig there good eating
That theres a lookdown, aka moon fish. I hear they are good eating. Not sure how you clean something so thin.
That’s a look down fish
Look down, moon fish, they are a good fighting fish on light tackle...
look down i think
Fish is a lookdown AKA moon fish. They taste good but you need big ones to get much meat off them.
Hey thonny it's me Vinny I really enjoyed this episode you catch a mangrove snapper that's awesome the pompano are very nice size good job buddy 🎉😊😊
Robert Tampa it's called a look down
Frozen bait, unfortunately, turns to mush when it thaws... I wish there's a trick to keep it more durable!
just some friendly advice here. don't keep fish if you don't know what they are or if they are in season or the size limit.
I wish every angler took your advice.. unfortunately, most Asians will just keep whatever they caught.
@@2Cool4RyanI was fishing last night and this guy kept asking me about Snapper size limits. He caught a Mangrove Snapper (about 7-8") He asked how big they had to be. I told him 10". He says, "Oh good. He 10," and threw him in his cooler. I thought, why ask if you're not going to even measure it, and you're going to keep it despite it being too small? I bit my tongue and kept fishing. Then he pulls in a Lane Snapper. He again asks how big they need to be. I told him, "those only need to be 8 inches, but he looks about 6 inches. You should measure it." He says, "Oh no, he 8 inches all day!" Angry, I said, "you should really measure it." He ignored me, so I got up and walked away. The moral of this story is that about 45 minutes later FWC came by and searched his cooler bag. They wrote him 2 $500 tickets for both undersized Snapper, and a $1000 ticket for keeping a Porkfish. Porkfish can only be kept live for an aquarium. The officer told him he could have been arrested for the Porkfish, but instead got a hefty fine. 💰🐟💶
@@captainconstitution4238 tell me about it. I’m a catch and release guy and those around me tend to get mad when they see me releasing their target species. 🤷🏻♀️
Dude he knows…
@@austinmc2112I don't doubt that Thon knows his stuff, but the guy who said "fish is fish..." 🤔
It’s the Look Down or moon fish.
I caught 4 moon fish. I thought they were pompano 😂😂😂 I'm not from Florida 😂😂
lookdown jack
That was an moonfish or look down
Where do you park to fish there ?
That was a fl. moon fish,
Moon fish/Lookdown and very good to eat, lot more meat on them than looks.
Great!
I saw a 60 lb compressed turd at the skyway last week. The water lily smells like piss
Lookdown
Aren’t you not supposed to fish that area on fort desoto pier? An old man told me I wasn’t allowed to and checked the sign. Sure enough it said you can’t.
Correct, that area closed the beginning of August. Posted with several signs and outlined with red paint. Probably the excitement / anticipation of catching fish made him gloss over the sighs. I have made that same mistake at the same spot if I am being totally honest.
@@williamsweeney147 same, I didn’t even know until this old guy told me. I was like oh shit lol. He pointed at the red line and then the sign. I was tearing up the reds and caught a giant 35 incher.
Are you at John’s?
@@saedfajardo8956 was just there! Any luck? Water was murky
@@Thonny water was not the best, I only got 1 undersized pamp
Do you fish the East coast or the West?
West coast!
All that fresh water on top of doo doo water this is the worst I've seen it and I've got 43 years here fishing Teresa Bishop hardware
I urge anyone fishing the Gulf from bridges or piers to take the free Skyway Educational course online about Pelicans. Besides the fact you need it to fish out at the Skyway Nov 15th-March 15th ,it teaches what to do and not to do when fishing around pelicans and in the event of bird hooking/entaglements .
Its an all too common occurrence and worth knowing
And I believe the free Skyway educational course is a requirement to fish out at the Skyway year round. Multihook use (sabikis, etc) are banned 11-15 thru 3-15
I printed a copy to show at the entrance when I got there and the lady said she didn't need to see it but if the FWC asks for it then you have to have proof of taking and passing it 👍
They don't ask for proof to get on the pier
Look down they’re good eating but not much meat on them
Thonny do you ever remembering a kid all exited to meet you while you where pompano fishing is that going to be another vid or is it this one? Oh and I also asked for you to say hi to vid for me and I don't think you did so um maybe can you give me a shoutout next vid please and thank you tomorrow is my birthday please just do it for my birthday. 😁😁🙏🙏🎂🎂
I don't think anyone's doing very good
It’s been tough! Hopefully things start picking up again
Last report was fecal matter a thousand times higher than safe levels. In the Manatee River.
@@Thonny I'm hoping by next spring is cleared up
@@Thonnygot a 30" grouper yesterday that looked greenish. Makes me ? Are they safe to eat
