- The 2024 NHL Draft is in the books as the Toronto Maple Leafs made some moves, including one to get ahead of the free-agent frenzy. Mike DiStefano and David Morassutti give their thoughts on the big move made by the Leafs to get the rights to free agent defenceman Chris Tanev as they explain why it was a wise move and what a contract could look like. He is 160 lbs now and young and still filling out he will be a 185-198lb his brothers are bigger and took longer to fill out also
Leafs are looking at this as they get Tanev now and for the next 3-4 yrs possibly.
Tanev is also looking out for hisself on that long term contract. In case he can’t play out there rest of it. He still gets paid that remaining contract right?

I refuse to believe Brad is THAT dumb. Cmon now …6 years for a guy who’ll be 35 years old before the end of the year. 🤨 The guy plays half a season on average ffs.He’s had every injury in the book. I mean don’t get me wrong he’s exactly the type of guy we need but ain’t no way I’m doing over 3 years on term. Way too risky. I’m mostly worried about post deadline and playoffs. He gets hurt at that point (which unfortunately is very likely given his broken body) and you’re screwed. Also how effective is a guy that plays that way gonna be at 38,39,40,41.
