Dec 2017, I bought a 1968 Ford Hi-Boy. Done a lot of work to it, but it's now a daily driver. 4-speed, with "Granny" gear, so seally a 3-speed. I can comfortably go 60mph on the freeway, but shouldn't push it past that. Someone, swapped the factor 240ci for a 65 Thunderbird 390ci, along with the Thunderbird's manifold, which allows a 4-barrel carburetor. The bed is swiss cheese. I spent 6 months getting rid of most of the rust. It runs well and has good power, as long as I tune the carburetor a couple times a year.
I had that exact truck when I was 25... It would literally go anywhere. Had a PTO winch. Perfect rust free Az truck. I was broke and had two trucks so I sold it. Never forgive myself.
A friend of mine had a truck like that back in the early 80s,It would go through anything, was unstopable! That truck of yours is very restorable! I like it!
I had one like that back in the seventies an dents an all. I got it from a farm and its whole life was hauling horse crap so it was bad bad. I drove it in that shape clear to Oklahoma to bring wife back to washington state.... I ran it hard an when done, down a half a quart of oil. It would through the first quart and then stay so I just left it that way and it never used a drop. One of the best trucks I ever had and it rolled the odometer over twice after I had it and it was tough shape showing near a hundred when I bought it for a couple hundred, The last time I ever saw it, it was setting with the cab half on and half off... literally
Love your truck. i drive a 79 gmc 1ton 4x4. At this point the cab itself is the only original sheet metal. Looks like you have some metal work to do. Cant wait to see it done!
I'm a big fan of these old ford's. 17years old and I bought my first pickup for 500 dollars, it would take a quart of oil every 30 miles and drove side ways down the road. But it was mine, and never left me on the side of the road!
@@BackyardAlaskan You are lucky man. You live where you can own hand guns and all sorts of assault weapons, plus live in a beautiful state. 7-50r17 are pretty common here in Mexico. they are used in 1 ton dually trucks. they sale for around 100-150 dollars and you can get them in both highway and or old school offroad tread. can be used with or without inner tubes, depending on your wheels
Zsavage1 ya I like standards but in the end I would rather stick with auto just because it’s easier to drive in tight situations and they just get better and better every year

These narrow tires are my favorite for deep snow. They sink down to solid ground for better traction.
Really nice buy for $1,000! I'd love an old Highboy, but I'm broke and most of the ones around me are $5k and up.
I own a 69 250 4 x4 just like that,same color. 428 Fe, love it.had for 20 years now. Thumbs up everywhere I go.
Good to see somebody showing some love to these old trucks
