"I'm hoping this beach is a little more serene..." [crashing wave chases Richard backward] "Maybe not!] Richard, great video! As I watched you this morning, I recall just how disorienting an experience it can be under the night sky in absolute darkness and solitude. Yet, you make it look so natural. I always experience a slight element of fear - winds, strange animal noises, a set of approaching headlights... And I do it in cornfields. Here you are at the edge of the world on a dangerous rocky beach! Thank you for sharing, once again, your experiences.
Beautiful shots again Richard and not without some fair effort and a bit of ticker. It wouldn't be stretching it to call you an adventurer in my opinion. Thanks for another bangin' video.
That was one crisp and clear sky! Some amazing panos there Richard. Nothing like scrambling over sand and up rocks lugging a bunch of camera gear to get the heart racing 🙂
Wow, wow, wowzers mate, what a fantastic coast line to shoot from. I can see our Motorhome would fit perfectly exploring Tazzy and taking night shots of course. Beaut compositions Richard and yes it must have been very hard work , but worth every aching muscle ! Cheers
Wonderful video, as always, Richard. The Milky Way above the waves is just mesmerising. Absolutely beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing it all with us. You're a true inspiration!

Richard, Those images are just breathtaking !! The giant panorama just draws your attention into all of the glory of the night sky. Thank you so much for sharing. It is so inspirational !! Thanks.
Richard, These are some amazing images. They are absolutely next level with the incredible night skies and rugged seascapes in the foreground. Thank you for sharing such inspiring images and this video.
Another excellent video with some stunning images, RIchard. Shooting at night by the sea is a full-on immersive sensory experience - certainly blows the cobwebs away! Do you ever see bioluminescent algae in those parts?

Astounding images Richard! What a magnificent coastal location! I'll never get over your dark skies. Even on the video camera the milky-way can easily be seen. I'd love to see how you edited and stitched one of those panoramic shots!
Thanks as always for watching Peter. I used lightroom to do basic edits and Photoshop to do the stitching. Although I've also used Microsoft ICE to do some panos with great results. I also have PtGui but don't use it a lot.
Absolutely stunning Richard! Thanks for sharing your travels. Just inspiring what you are showing and sharing with us! Have really enjoyed the road trip!
Richard, Incredible images and I guess you do what you have to do to get them! Your travels and your work are so inspirational to me! Anxiously looking forward to your next adventure in Tasmania!!! Thanks so much for what you do!
Absolutely brilliant presentation once again Richard. Your easy going style makes for a very pleasant viewing experience. Made me miss my home state a lot and after 16 years away. It's time to visit the town of Bicheno where I grew up. Well done mate.
What a great images the first one was, and such a rather scary location at night with the rocks. You did well and have given us another beautiful video of Tassie. 👏👏
@@nightscapeimages.richard From memory you're shooting Sony for video, is that right? I bought a Nikon Z30, so I could use my Z glass but may also buy the Viltrox 13mm f1.4 for video and timelapse.
@@GrowPhotography Yes I'm using a Sony A7s3 and a Sony 24mm f1.4 for my videos. I've found that to be the best for low light high iso video work. I'm regularly shooting at 64,000 iso. If I did that with the Z6 it looks pretty bad. Also the fully articulating screen and amazing eye autofocus were vital for me.
@@nightscapeimages.richard Wow, the results are impressive for that ISO. We astrophotographers certainly face some unique challenges. Also don't win any friends setting up video lighting for vlogging during an astro shoot 🤣, I understand why you primarily shoot alone.
Absolutely gorgeous images Richard, fantastic compositions and an amazing place to be! Best wishes and clear skies, thank you so much for your amazing and inspiring videos.
Wow, Richard, it seems that your journey gets progressively more photogenic. I honestly was not prepared for that first image. It literally took my breath away. You are truly an artist in the most iconic ways. On a side note, while I understand what your filming process looks like while you are solo, it would be informative to add a 3-5 minute segment showing what your usual video setup looks like when you're at a location like this. It won't be hard to understand why you don't look like the side of a house after seeing all that you go through. Keep up the absolutely brilliant work.
Amazing sky and foreground. Yeah I never taken such scenery together thinking seascape windy and can't see the stars. You showed me it is possible . I been to Tasmania seaside but no clear stars but it was on opposite on the land side and road street had street lamps spoiled the nightscape.
Another ripper Richard, I was just thinking to myself if many people realy appreciate how much time and effort you put into these videos, with the scouting locations and working out your compositions, the setting up of the video camera for all the different angles, walking backwards and forwards to keep the continuity in the shots and the the actual shooting the nightscapes and then not only proccessing the actual shots but editing the video too, Well I certainly do so a big thanks from me, you've guided me from "I think Id like to have a go at this here nightscape stuff" to being confident enough to be able to produce some images I'm proud of, and now my gallery at home is growing Im running out of walls to hang them on😂
WOW Richard, once again you have done some absolutely stunning work. Great to see you are still light on your feet dodging waves coming in Hahahaha. I have never used a star tracker before, and I am wondering what made you go with the one you selected? It would be very interesting to know the decision process you used to select that star tracker. Thanks again Richard for your stunning work and the effort you put into doing what you do.
Thanks again for watching Adam. I have 4 different trackers and they all have their strengths and weaknesses. I like the Star Adventurer mini because it's so small and light weight, yet really capable. So it's perfect for these road trips.
Hi Richard, that coastal scenary is truely stunning. It is so funny to see Orion at this time of the year and upsidedown at that! The final pics were stunning, the seascapes really lend themselves well to nightscapes. How long are you on the road for, it seems like you have been in Tasmania for ages now?
Wow, amazing photos Richard. I'm excited since I have the exact same gear as yours. Just recently modified my Z6ii to full-spectrum and re-acquired a Nikon Z 20 mm f/1.8 lens which I stupidly sold.

Hi Richard, just wondering where you got your head torch from. It looks like it's got a wide range of light. Off to Tassie tomorrow, will be trying some night shots myself.
Richard, beautiful images! Seascapes always challenging day or night so one remains safe. I always plan an exit strategy just in case. My problem, shooting by myself in many cases I'm concentrating on the sky and photography and may not pay attention to wave activity. :)
Richard, thanks a lot: you one of favorite channels . I have some questions. I have some problems on composing pano in postproduction both of the sky and of the foreground because of the lens distortion. Any suggestion? Tutorial reference?
Thanks for your support. A panorama will never 100% accurately represent what we see in the field .. it's like putting a 3 dimensional image into a 2 dimensional space. Most software will add a curve to try and compensate for this. The better stitching programs will try to allow for this in the rendering. Different projection profiles make a world of difference in panorama stitching. Then of course you have the problem of matching the sky and foreground elements. Not always easy and there will always be compromises.

Absolutely beautiful images Richard! You sold me on the 20mm F1.8 lens on one of your other videos. I recently ordered it and can't wait to use it! Do you use a USB power bank or some other external power supply other than your camera's battery when doing astrophotography? Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and beautiful photography!
Such inspiration Richard…thank you. For some of these images you did, for example, a 4 x image panorama or an 18 x image panorama. Did you have 4 x single shots for the foreground or was this a panorama with each section comprised of a stack of 4 images? Also did you use portrait or landscape orientation? Cheers, Kylie
Thanks so much Kylie. These are all panoramas . .so I didn't do any stacking in these one's. Each panel is a single shot. I took the foregrounds as a separate panorama to the sky panoramas and blended them togetther in photoshop.
Thanks for watching Mark. I use a LED Lenser P7 torch .. but there are many other good ones. Light panels, Ulanzi VL49 and F&VZ96 .. but again there are many other good ones.
Ok you have to help me 5:05 how do you get the stars in the shot you do it all the time, I just can't work it out how you can film are they just that bright in taz?
Thanks for watching Adam. I'm using a camera that operates very well at extremely high iso and see's in the dark, as well as a very fast aperture lens to film. I'm using a Sony A7s3 and Sony 24mm f1.4 lens.
@@nightscapeimages.richard thanks Richard , have the eosr, which has the bigger mp sensor, even matched up with the rf24 2.6 i still dont get decent stars in video :( it doesn't like the higher iso at all
@@AdamAbello Yes and I've found the same with all my other cameras. The Sony A7s3 is only a 12mpx sensor and that is a light gathering beast. Also I'm shooting at 64,000iso
@@nightscapeimages.richard thats a big help, ive got video limited to 3200 to reduce noise, ill try lighting the scene a lot less so not to clip the stars, ill try its native 40,000. then test the expanded range upto 100k im guessing ill need some heavy noise reduction in post, if it is going to remotely work on a 30mp sensor. cant wait to test it out again, inspired me again richard, you never fail. love your work
Hello Richard another awesome video..I was wondering with the milky way core will it still be possible to get good shots of it in the summer time or is it more of a winter season time im keen to get out and get some shots but its been to cloudy where I live.. Regards Ross
Thanks so much for watching Ross. In Australia you can catch the milky way rising in late January just pre-dawn. As the months progress it rises earlier each night until about June when it's rising in the east at sunset. From there you'll find the core progressively moves across to the western sky until October when it's setting in the West just on sunset. So really it's only late November til the start of January when you won't see it at all.
@nightscapeimages.richard Thank you so much for that Richard you are inspiring me to get and do more unfortunately I think I live in the cloud capital of Australia 😆..I can't wait to be able to get out when it's clear just hopefully more clear in the summer time.. Regards Ross

Another excellent informative vid, well, now waiting on that plastic gadget from NZ, as would have it, came out of hospital, picked up the adventurer pro, now have covid (keep away from the city! :)) Well, in my room trying to work things out with the app, looks like it is working but couldn't see any movement? Couple of good vids on the app which is a plus!

Gary

@@nightscapeimages.richard Thank you Richard, I'm in that geriatric age group that are able to get the covid drugs, the drugs (covid drugs :)) work a treat

😍👍👍
Thanks for another great vid Richard. I am looking to purchase the sky watcher mini pro to start my tracking journey, it is not on your list above for you to get a commission. Also have you put on an 85mm lens on the mini? Cheers Pete
Hi Pete, you'll love the mini. I did try the 85mm on the mini and it went ok. Sorry about no link.
Thank you so much for watching. I generally use a usb power bank for long timelapses but not usually for regular photography.
Hi Richard. This has inspired me to find a subject to light paint. What torch and light panels do you use?
Thanks for watching Mark. I use a LED Lenser P7 torch .. but there are many other good ones. Light panels, Ulanzi VL49 and F&VZ96 .. but again there are many other good ones.
Hi Richard, are you currently in Tasmania, or is this an old vlog? If you are, are you coming up to St Helens? By the way magnificent Vlog.
This trip was in May, so I've been home a while. I don't edit my images or videos on the road.
Ahhh ok. I was going to ask to catch up for a coffee. Great vlog by the way.
The foreground don't need any light painting? Richard
You mentioned don't need due to large foreground. Long exposure will do.
That's right. I'm using long exposure ambient exposures for the foreground.
Thanks! Question:Have you ever had any issues where the public access areas are closed at dusk?
Thanks for watching Mike. No it's not generally a problem around these parts. This location was very close to the main road.
@@nightscapeimages.richard a lot of our public parks (Ohio) are dawn to dusk access only/ or sunrise to sunset.
@@mikebartow9415 That would be a pain.
@@rossb84 Yes I think 2023 has been the cloudiest year so far ..!!!
@nightscapeimages.richard Hopefully it gets better for summer thank you again for doing the videos Richard
Is this place is Coles bay ?
I been to Coles Bay few years ago but that night it was no clear sky.
No this isn't Coles Bay. It's a long way from there.
What time at night you taken this scene?
I started as soon as it got dark.
Hi, where is this place , just curious which part of Tasmania.?
@@graemechow88 East coast .. not too far from Swansea . .but there are areas like this all along the coast.
Yeah, thank You Richard. I passed by Swansea for lunch only. It look like town in UK.
I passed by this town and it look like in UK different feeling. By the way, I am curious you take those video you are alone or with someone? Really not easy to self portrait video if it is night time at the scene.
