Dave, When you spool your winch rope. Just put the jeep in neutral and lightly apply your hand break you can winch without it going into auto park. I have a 2021 Gladiator Rubicon and that method works fine

That is a nice Jeep. It's been a min since I've owned a Jeep, but I did mount a 10k lb winch on my Dakota only because they are so useful. I prefer steel cable only because it's more abrasion resistant. When I first got into winches, I had to educate myself and funny enough, it seemed like there wasn't many US videos from people who knew what they were talking about or didn't mention much, I watched tons of vids of Australian offroad vids and let me tell ya, those fellas know how to use their equipment. I learned so many ways to use a winch it's priceless. One of the biggest things I learned was maintaining an electric winch. A big issue is, condensation or moisture building up in the motor or on the solenoid, causing corrosion, which will kill the winch. Best way to mitigate that was to use the winch for 3-5 mins once a week or on some type of regular schedule to heat it up enough to evaporate any moisture build up inside. So twice a month I use the winch to spool put about half the line and just spool it back in putting as much tension on it as I can using my gloved hand. Had my winch for a few years now and it has always worked when I needed it too. Another thing was to keep a smidge of electrical grease in the plug on both the remote and the winch if it's not a cordless, keeps the prongs from corroding.
I also keep a tool box in the back with just winch accessories. I keep a 12' logging chain to chain my truck to a tree to keep it from moving when recovering other people's vehicles. 2 30' 20k lb rated tow straps, 4 bright orange winch line blankets, 6 20 ton shackles, tree saver strap, 3 20k lb rated snatch blocks, leather gloves, 2 head lamps, and a large flashlight. More times than not I use this stuff to pull others out of mud holes or the ditch, but the to straps add the extra length so I can double my winch line, but the extra snatch blocks come in handy if I'm stuck and I have to winch at angle due to no tree's directly in front of me or if I need to winch out backwards, which is not my favorite thing to do but I've done it before. Also comes in handy to use them to lift things using a large tree with large branches, especially game animals or some equipment.

Nice work captain. You make a great fair lead. I don't see any bad wraps. The seatbelts safety feature... got to love that. I just attach it behind my back in when transporting cars. Sometimes I need to open the door to see where the tires are. These new cars put on the brakes when you open the door. Lol. Safety first. You should get a new jeep every year from Chrysler. Wonderful advertising. I want one now.

Great video Dave! Most precautions were taken and great new products. I really like the soft shackle and the blanket. I was in the Army and when to recovery school for 6 weeks. Alls we did was get things stuck and wench them out. The only thing you could have done different in an actual situation of recovery. I know that you were paying attention to how your wench was spooled so this is irrelevant. But it's best to stand off to the side with your remote recovering the vehicle or in the driver seat. Because in an actual recovery situation whether you had that blanket on or not and the line actually broke it would still be coming directly at you where you were at.

Couple of months ago when I was at my SO's Florida place I was coming back from giggin stingrays seen a guy covered in black mud hoofin it, I pulled over asked if he was ok? he said he and his buds where out jeepin all 3 stuck. I said hop in: So we drive out where they where 3 newer jeeps all tricked out all mired. the nearest one was nosedown in water/mud but it looked like he had a stout bumper I sent him out with my winch line steel not synthetic and a hook shackle hooked up to my old W200, He hooked up and said ok. I hollered at him too move, engaged the winch and pulled in slack, as soon as it came under tension the old dodge dug in so I threw a chock on my wheel. and took up a bit more.. snap! his whole damn plastic covering of bumper came off, he hooked thru the aesthetic part yikes... I ended up getting them all out and teaching them how to use the Danforth anchor and the high-lift jack knockoffs they had (the kockoffs are pure crap most needed to be de rusted we ended up using mine.. I always carry a Danforth cuz trees in my part of Florida don't have much holding power....It was fun we all learned something and generally good kids, dogs had a blast so exhausted after giggin and recoverin had to pick two of them up haha I felt bad for the guys bumper. they where pretty impressed with my old beater dodge that I have about 500 bucks in.

Dave, curious question, what is the maximum weight as cargo that your jeep can take and after the custom built add-on's and equipment, how much weight is left for personnel and/or other accessories? How much empty weight do you think you should allow for last minute cargo or so you don't max out the weight capabilities to drive safely? Like the vehicle build you have but just looking as what you or the manufacture thinks should be the safe cargo load for driving and handling if you know what I mean. Thanks, looking forward to the end product and all your ideas.

Or a lot of weight in the driver's seat with the seat belt buckles. You were lucky it wasn't on inertia reels. This is why you always use a second man when wenching forward. Like the old open face reels with the line guides on the front. Keeps the line straight in or out.

These start 76k in Australia and top model is about 90k plus on road costs a few grand more, before adding any extra modifications . Only available with petrol engine , with a lower payload and towing capacity than most other similar ute's in Australia. With a 20k or more lower price tag for Japan or Asian built ute's. Jeep has a terrible reputation for reliability, customer service and value for your dollar in Australia. What is there reliability reputation in America like?

Base price for a Gladiator Sport is $34,000. If Dave's put $10K worth of mods on there so far I'd be surprised. You can tell by the brands of certain aftermarket mods that he's watching pennies.

Not sure about the new Jeeps, but the older jeeps are well known for being the kings of offroad here in the US. Most people can buy a nice used Jeep for under 20K depending on year and model. However, when it comes to a Jeep, most like the older ones because they have the 4.0L inline 6 engine (before year 2000 I believe when Jeep stopped the inline 6 production). Not the most powerful, but they last forever. Many have well over 300 thousand miles on them and usually out last everything else on the vehicle. I've had 3 Jeeps. Love them, but since I sold my last one because I needed a pick up truck, I'm investing in a different Jeep here shortly, getting a Jeep Kaiser (1968) M35A2 with a 465 Ltd 7.8L multifuel engine with 46" tires and that's 6 wheel drive. Other than climbing steep inclines or rock crawling, a Jeep wrangler or similar variant won't even touch it as far as everything else.
