- Welcome back to Gator Overland! In today's video we go over a few Pros and Cons of the MOPAR Winch-Capable Steel Front Bumper which can be opted as a factory upgrade or purchased separately as an individual aftermarket upgrade. We also include and instructional "how to" remove the bumper end caps. This video could better help your decision to opt up, or opt out of the upgrade for your JT/JL.

My JTR came with the LED light package. I never knew I wanted LED’s until I got LED’s.
You can’t go wrong with LED’s these days.. night and day difference !!
I feel like all models should have came with this bumper. Good video
I agree, should be standard
Unfortunately for me I have like 3 on one end cap that refuse to come off and seemed to already been semi stripped or really tightened down. I have tried to get them out with stripped screw removal with no luck😢 one end cap off 😂
Damn!!! I hate to hear that.. hit it with some heat..
I bought that bumper for $450 and it came with a winch plate. I took off the ends before I mounted in on my 2021 JL Rubicon. Love it.
😂😂 that’s a “steel” 🤘🏼
Got mine of Facebook market place for $350 and love how it looks on my Gladiator.
🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼 the was a “steel”
Just picked up a gator gladiator rubicon this week. Her name is Guinevere. She’s awesome!!!
Thanks for the reply!! youre going to love it. I just installed a 2" mopar with 3/4" daystar spacer. Turned out great!! video install coming soon!
Thanks for confirming that you need an adapter plate specific to your winch in order to actually mount it on this bumper.
You bet! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. This video was for you!
I have the exact truck except a soft top and I added the aux switch bank later so I could install heated windshield wipers. I would just order the Aux Switch bank or buy it already on the truck. It was more expensive to add it later at dealership.
Nice!! I still don’t have anything on my aux buttons, but glad I have them.
nice video. Love the simple approach angle calc. My Rubi came with the plastic bumper. Mopar is nice and a solid choice. I considered this as aftermarket but decided on Ace - built in winch plate, stubby for ~$600
JTR Spartacus thanks for the reply! 😂 a 2x2, some duct tap, and an angle finder, who’d a thunk? And you’re exactly right! The ace is hard to beat at that price point.
Great video. Thanks. Subbed. And Merry Christmas!
Thanks for the kind comment! Merry Christmas to you and yours! Let me know if you have any questions! More content coming soon!
Love pre-cross threaded!! Lol sun burn give this video a nice touch. Keep it up.
Great video.my sister got me that tshirt same color.
I took my gladiator on the trails this weekend and uploaded a little video of it in action.
Awesome! Yea I figured I’d give a silent shout out to my brother on that episode. I’m enjoying my JT too.. just went 37’s! More content coming soon
Just ordered my ruby, and it should come out looking a lot like yours. Unfortunately the COVID shutdown has put delivery on hold, so please upload some more vids to tied me over!
Thanks for the reply! Your in luck, my lift install and evaluation should he uploaded soon. I really like the way it turned out. It will be titled “ultimate MOPAR” lift. You should check out JT mods and TJ Mitchell films channels, they have good content and I have connected with them via Facebook/insta and they are very helpful and knowledgeable, and have great JT builds. Hang in there bud, I had to wait from May to September to put in my gator rubicon order and then wait another 9 weeks. It’s worth the wait to get what you want. I’ve loved every mile. And the new setup is even better ride than the stock rubi suspension. My research payed off!!
ruclips.net/video/jz02ZX8oG-E/видео.html here you go. So happy with the outcome and feel of this suspension upgrade. Its hard to believe it could get better, but its better than the rubicon ride for sure!!
Didn't even know this was modular til now, good to know. Also, quick enough you could do this on the trail and put them right back on before you drive home.
Thanks for the reply! You’re exactly right! And your idea for their intentions for removal on trails is probably spot on. Enjoy your JT!
Another great video Sir!!! Keep it up!!!
Thanks bud!
Nice video. I took the end caps off the rubie. Any idea why there is a random hole on the passengers side end after you take the ends off? I wish there was a after market accessory with different colors you could stick on these end caps.
I thanks for taking the time to watch and comment… The hole in the bumper on the passenger side is for a fixing a marker flag… Some off-road parks and national park require the vehicles to have a whip marker flag.. Basically a long fiberglass rod with a pennant flag at the end usually colored in high viz. orange
Ty. I would never have guessed that!
I love the idea of the stock bumper. It's a nice clean look, sturdy, and can accommodate the winch. Unfortunately mine didn't come with it. Good thing is a lot of people like to "upgrade" to a different bumper and these can be had second hand. $1,100 is pricey for a new one. What would you do with the front license plate if you added a winch? That's what I'm not sure of.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. They make a spring retention bracket that flips up or down for convenience. Also, in Texas those 2plates are legal requirement are rarely cited for it
It's almost as if LED lighting should be standard for expensive vehicle in 2020
No doubt.. definitely a worthy upgrade though.. the stock halogens are shit. It’s nice that they offer the LED’s in the sport S max tow package now too.
4 of the bolts on my bumper were cross threaded.. absolutely pain to remove them 🤦🏻♂️
Thanks for your reply!🤦🏼♂️ I feel 1/4 of your pain! Just curious, What was your method of removal of the bolts bedsides the cross threaded.. hand or power?
Gator_Overland I only used the Jeep tool kit. And for the cross threaded ones I used needle nose pliers to hold the U nuts from the back and the Jeep tool with brute force 😅.... replaced all the bolts and u nuts after removing them with new hardware, thankfully the 4 were the ones in the back so the new hardware isn’t visible ... because they don’t match
How did you mount your license plate?
From the factory there should be a black plastic attachment for the license plate after installing the winch later on I just placed it behind the fairlead attachment and it’s been holding for about 60,000 miles
@@GatorOverland ok thanks. I wanted to upgrade my bumper but don't plan on putting a winch. I just wanted to know if it can be done since we need to have our plates here in Texas. I'm assuming all aftermarket front bumpers will be able to do it.
@polo5569 yes! Absolutely! My bumper shouldn’t have a DOT approved bracket… Not all states require the license plate, of course
Really bizarre question coming at you, do you know if the steel bumper added anything to the overall length? I want to replace my plastic bumpers however I have a fairly short garage. I literally have about 3-4 inches of clearance and this is it! Let me know and thanks!
That’s actually a good question. I’m not directly sure if the answer. I wouldn’t think it’s too much different from the plastic bumper, it may even be less stuck because of its rigid structure, the plastic exo Skelton of the other bumper could be more projection. I’ve seen people used the plastic bumper with the winch and just cut out for the fair lead, so they are similar for sure.
nice jeep! been thinking of getting one.whats the maximum passenger capacity on these?
Thanks for the reply! The passenger capacity is 5, two in the front, three in the back. The engine is a 3.6L 285 horsepower V6, with optional 8spd automatic and 6spd manual transmission with the capability for towing up to 7650lb when properly equipped. So, 4x4 with solid axles front and back, 4 doors, a bed and removable top.. that’s hard to beat if it’s your kind of thing. I have no regrets coming from my 2014 z71
@@GatorOverland nice thanks for the video!
Has anyone had the opportunity to smack a deer at 50+ mph with this bumper and what were the results?
I’m privy of the deer smack and it’s not pretty regardless of vehicle.. even more so if the deer gets back up and dashed into the woods. This bumper should hold a good 50-60mph smack, but can’t promise your hood, grille or windshield won’t get damaged.
i wonder how rust resistant this is...live in upstate salt belt...will eat cheap steel bumpers alive.
That’s a good question. They come with a really good coating. I live on the gulf coast of Texas which is prone to premature rust: I think if you maintain it properly it will last as long as most any other steel bumper you can compare to.
