For content,
Emilia has the thought process and small confidence of a child. Without Puk or Subaru to reassure her, she makes really bad mistakes. She failed the trial, the villagers lost faith in her and she never got Subaru's letter of encouragement. In a panic, she decided to take the trial multiple times. One run of the trial is mentally taxing. Over and over again broke her mind.
the only time a trial wans't mentally taxing was subaru's first trial where he at least kinda made peace with his parents.
even if that was a placebo because his parents have no idea where he went and what happened to him
How come she didn't get the letter? Did Roswal take it to force Subaru to restart or what?

So the anime didn’t say this, but in the novel, this is mind broken Emilia. Remember how Subaru left a note for her? Someone got the note before Emilia. Imagine the one person you always rely on disappearing without saying anything. Emilia is mentally weak which is why she always seeks courage and approval from others. Because she thinks Subaru abandoned her and left, she took the trial repeatedly, over and over and over again. The first time made her break down in tears. Imagine taking that trial repeatedly. What you see in this clip is her after she’s taken it several times repeatedly. The person she relied on most seemingly disappeared and left her mentally unstable. She is not possessed, she’s just mentally unstable, basically a yandere. This is what would happen to Emilia if Subaru ever decided to leave her.
The last part about this about what would happen if Subaru ever left her I don’t think is true. She doesn’t have puck rn but if Subaru left her while puck was around she probably still would’ve been somewhat sane compared to this. Subaru is important to her but puck is just as important/more important.

It is basically spelled out so clearly by both Subaru and Roswall that it actually is Emilia mind broken and not Satella posessing her. I keep wondering, were they foreshadowing this in earlier episodes because Subaro was mostly concentrating on getting people out of the mansion and didn't stay with Emilia a lot.

What's scary about this is that Emilia isn't possessed. She's been taking the trial so many times, causing her mind to break, and without Subaru's and Puck's mental support, she went insane.
I hope she gets better in the next episodes. :(
I heard that there will be two parts of this season like AoT season 3 so this part will go up to episode 13 so 2 more episodes and then we will have to wait for second part

For anyone wondering why Emilia is like this, she was isolated for a few days all alone with no emotional crutch from neither Subaru or Puck.
She is not possessed, just driven insane by trying the same thing over and over with no support and while being in complete isloation for 2-3 days.
When Subaru came back to her, she finally realized how incredibly weak and pathetic she is for not being able to do anything by herself.
Subaru was actually gone for just one day. He left during the morning to the mansion and came back at night.
I don't want to give spoilers, but lets just say: Emilia is much more handicapped than anyone else when taking these exams...

My favorite/worst part of the broken Emilia thing is how when Subaru comes back from getting eaten by the rabbits in the post credits. The scene moves to a first person view of Subaru and you can briefly see Emilia clutching onto Subaru’s warmup jacket like it’s a safety blanket or a plush toy. It just goes to show how far Emilia has been pushed and how she’s just clinging onto as much hope as she possibly can. It’s a small and brief moment that took me a couple rewatches to catch so it’s very easy to miss, but it just highlights the attention to detail great shows like Re:Zero puts into its characters
It also implies she tried to stop him from leaving, and Subaru left his jacket with her to satiate her sanity.

since now we know that she thinks kiss = baby, maybe she knew that subaru was passing away and wanted to have his baby so she wouldn't be left alone.......tappei you madman

That death loop was pure pain.
An important detail that they left out from the anime was the reason why Emilia turned out like this. She's really insane, not possessed by the witch.
While Subaru was gone, Emilia kept undergoing the trial over and over. We saw what happened after she did it once. Of course repeatedly doing it would end up completely destroying her mental state.
They said it in the anime, but in about one line.

I went into Re:Zero knowing nothing about it after the first season ended with Subaru telling Emilia he loves her. I figured that the story was over for good and it all ends with a happy ending. But now oof... boy is ignorance bliss.

This has to be one of the most shocking episodes in my opinion, next to the episode that has Betelgeuse's first appearance. It's just real shocking and mesmerizing how Roswaal was able to deduce Subaru's secret, and how he wasn't afraid of his own demise. The most shocking part has to be the ending. Even though Emilia is there to comfort him by allowing him to lay in her lap, he still feels lonely and unable to do a thing. Really great episode, and considering the fact that the people behind this are all working from home, that isn't an understatement.

Subaru after meeting Insane Emilia: Need I go to another tea party.
I don’t know why I love this episode and the next one the most in the season. I believe it is because of this scene and the end scene with her again. It shows that she literally went insane and kept trying to do the challenge and kept crying and losing her mind, to the point where she was not even doing the challenge when Subaru entered, probably meaning that she failed the challenge all together. She also waited to Subaru and thought that he was the only one who loved her and was there for her. Just this scene alone makes me wonder what it would be if she was there for days on end.

Yandere Emilia is something I never thought I'd experience in life, but loe and behold 2020 has thrown another shocking revelation at us.
I love how this scene is like emilia grabbing subarus desire for her to love him and says "thats cute"
My theory is that this is one of the unthinkable presents that created the Witch of Envy and Satella if both the theories of everyone being left behind after Subaru dies and Satella being the future version of Emilia.
Even though she snapped and went insane. This is her subconscious speaking. These feelings are real. But not spoken in emilias real consciousness
This is why overly nice people scare people away there is always a hidden demon they don't know about lurking in the shadows then when the person becomes too stressed the person snaps and the demon comes out all at once. If Emilia let someone else do the trial and admit it is too much stress and let herself rest, this wouldn't have happened. Now she sees Suburau as someone who can save her from all this and doesn't see him as a person but whatever she sees him as in her head.
Honestly saw that Rosewall betrayal a mile away. His backstory meeting Ram and Rem in a witch cult attack was suspicious

I know that Emilia thinking that babies appear when a boy and a girl kiss is supposed to be funny but with that context, it makes the kiss she gave him before he died even worse
She got traumatized by the trial and because she had no one to turn to after experiencing that and being stuck inside of ECHIDNAS graveyard she got broken.

It wasn't Roswaal, it was one of those Ryuzu clones. In the episode, you can see her watching Subaru as he leaves.

The truly saddest thing about this is that the timeline continued even after Subaru died so that means that Emilia stayed in that room untill she starved or got killed by the rabbits.
Continuation of timelines is only Echidna's theory about Return by Death, even she stated that it's just her hypothesis.
Anyone else think the creepiest moment isn’t this but what happened AFTER he got eaten by rabbits the second time and she lets his head on her lap and not noticing he got chewed on to death?
This scene and the final scene made this the darkest episode of the whole series.
