Watch Demon Slayer wins Best Fantasy award. Tasteless frauds Edit : Guys, use your brain. I'm talking about Crunchyroll giving the award to Demon Slayer when Mushoku was nominated. Frieren is my queen.
The insane part is that multiple times throughout the show they clarify that magic depends entirely on being able to visualize… which means that she can do that because she knows and can imagine how to do that. She knows how to visualize the amount of matter compressed in a blackhole, she knows how to visualize reality breaking down. Like we understand that Ubel is powerful because she can’t visualize what makes her attack ineffective, but on the opposite end of the spectrum we see Frieren understanding perfectly how reality works and can visualize how it breaks.
and serei still said she's not a class 1 mage. I would imagine that means realitive to elves, so her level. Imagine if frieren actually perfected her magic to the highest degree of competence. No "there's a slight delay when i'm against zoltrak" no fluctuations in her mana control, and those spells pushed tot heir peak. Frieren would be a genuine calamity. if she demanded something it would have to be given to her. Luckily she's a degen who would rather have clothes desolving acids rather than world domination.
@@Smol_Eri It's not that Frieren isn't as powerful as a first class mage. She outclasses every first class mage by a wide margin. The reason Frieren failed is because she can't envision Serie passing a mage like her; that is, a mage who isn't focused on combat. All of the others that were passed were combat mages: Denken, Ubel, Wirbel, etc. Or they were prodigies who did something no human should be able to do, as in the case of Fern. But Frieren? To Serie, she's weak for a thousand year old mage because she spends her time collecting magic instead of training for combat. And compared to Serie, there is no meaningful difference between Frieren and any of the first class mages in terms of power. Serie's *suppressed* mana is greater than Frieren's maximum output.
@@Smol_Eri serie did refuse mage 1 class for frieren because I THINK she took in consideration that she wouldn't even be a mage 1 class in the elf level. And I think that's highly badass
Right? It reminds me when Denken tried to destroy the wall to free the trapped mage but it did nothing, meanwhile the golem destroyed it with pure strength🤣
@@malikhaidar well they do say that in this era of magic, everything can resist magic which is why physical attacks are becoming more interesting for mages. Beside seeing how it seems that magic left from past civilizations is way more advanced than current magic you would expect them to know a thing or two about that.
In all fairness I doubt the Spiegel would be throwing around spells that could put itself at risk, and Frieren wouldn't want to ruin the Test for the other participants by making the bottom floor inaccessible.
Loved how we got to see more of what is in Frieren’s arsenal, purple lightning,a huge golem,a black type of Zoltraak, some type of force push that apparently works by simply pushing raw mana into an opponent,a MFing BLACK HOLE and much more. Really gives you a sense of how strong she is and the demon lord too, since she apparently used that “mana push” against him too
It's really cool to see indeed the diversity and experience being shown in this fight. We have seen her use and learn the silliest of spells, but I always did wonder about the ones that she used against f.ex. the Demon Lord. Guess this was a good glimpse of what she can do since I feel like she has even more in store.
At the beginning of the fight, both Frieren preemptively activate their guards, implying the use of a spell allowing for an instant cast. Both of them see themselves as capable of activating their shields, so they change the spell and blast the purple lightning. Before Fern's initial attack, one can observe the Clone teleporting to close the distance. While we witnessed Frieren moving swiftly, we didn't actually know how. Near the end, The overarching strategy of the confrontation was for Frieren to activate her guard, rendering her unable to detect magic. However, before the Clone was struck by Fern's Zoltraak, clone Frieren did not activate her guard; instead, she focused on the original's staff. So it also implies that the original was planning to cast something else which ended up creating an opening.
Well himmel told her not to use flashy spells to not destroy the bodies, so I have to assume last time they thought she blasted the corpses with a black hole lmao But also it's not necessarily true that aura isn't a threat, these spell probably consume a lot more mana than what she typically uses and aura wasn't fighting herself feeling confident in her raw mana. I think it's safe to assume that aura was fully capable of putting up a fight but typically wouldn't want to use her mana unless necessary because of how her spell works. And by using flashier spells frieren would 1) probably reveal that most of her mana is hidden 2) risk lowering it enough that aura's scales would work on her. It's likely aura would still get blasted before she can really do anything but I'd say the method frieren used was actually the best one at her disposal. Like, this whole section of the exam was also to show how raw power doesn't do all, with ubel being able to beat sense because of how they view magic fundamentally differently, being overconfident seems to be a great way to die as a mage in frieren's world =p
That wasn't the point at all when she didn't use flashy spells. Himmel had a stern talking to Frieren when she most likely used high AOE skills to just blast the armor away the last time something like this happened. So she learned a spell that just allows the enchantments on the bodies to go away, thus preserving the bodies/armor, but that spell required a lot more mana per soldier to be taken down, so she was somewhat worried about the fight (since her win condition was to keep the armor/bodies intact, while also disabling them). Once Aura took out the scale, even Frieren comments that shes sorta glad that she was going to use it, since that would make the fight A LOT cleaner, require basically no mana and disable the army at the same time. Aura would have most likely lost regardless (even assuming Frieren tried to take down the army using only her mana heavy de-enchantment spell), but her taking out the the scale artifact basically gave Frieren's win condition on a silver platter.
This fight isn't just visually spectacular. It's peppered with all sorts of little details that internally consistent with and/or callbacks to prior events and actions. At 1:05 when Fern snipes the Clone from behind and the Clone blocks, it uses a 360 degree defence shell. This shows us that Fern was trying to attack it within its mana detection vulnerability window, and the Clone couldn't sense what direction the attack was coming from, and had to resort to a more mana draining full shield. Frieren creating the Stone Golem is both a callback to the scene where she made a little golem to entertain her companions in the past, and to the mention that Golem creation was the specialty of the First Class Mage Lernen, who made the escape bottle Golems. In this fight and others earlier, we see Frieren using types of magic that are equivalent to or of the same class as the specialties of the other Mages, often to an even higher degree of power and effectiveness. She demonstrated a rapid movement/teleportation spell akin to Laufen's Jilwer in the last episode. She showed a pure cutting spell like Ubel's when she fought that Demon assassin with the magic wire. She used a wind tornado spell and a hellfire spell like Denken, manipulated earth and rocks like Edel and Richter, and in addition to all that also uses cosmic level spells that none of the other mages have shown. It really accentuates just what it means to have over a 1000 years of experience collecting and learning spells. At 1:39 the Clone isn't using just a regular black Zoltrak, its the enormous Super Black Zoltrak Qual attempted as his last ditch attempt to overwhelm Fern's defence. And at 2:04, after being grazed by Fern's first shot, we see the Clone Frieren swing around to try to shoot back, only to have her staff and arm hit by another Zoltrak (which is probably the attack that took off that arm). In other words, Fern was able to cast the attack spell faster than Clone Frieren could and landed the critical blow, definitively demonstrating that Fern's spellcasting speed is indeed faster than Frieren's. This is peak visual storytelling. You could literally watch the animation frame by frame and there is story information presented in almost every frame.
This is what good shows do. Attention to detail. Frieren still suffers from anime-style over-explaining, but anime is adapted from mangas/LN in a way that's faithful to a fault sometimes. It's generally about as subtle as a sledgehammer to the dome. Probably because adaptations barely account for the change in medium, they just do 1:1 translations from page to screen. It's a bad practice, tbh. At least Frieren manages a bit better than the norm.
@@djx7134 Wow, first time I've seen someone shares my opinion on anime adaptation sometimes being too faithful. I'm a huge fan of manga and rarely watch anime, but when I do, I prefer they do it with more creativity, not just 1 to 1 moving panels.
Another thing another commentor mentioned is once Fern blows off both the arms there is no additional damage, i.e. Fern's ZoltrAK47 was blocked off by the armless Frieren.
that scene as fern shoots clone frieren actually has even more detail, real frieren doesnt even attempt to cast anything else as clone frieren approaches because she knows fern's able to catch this window. clone frieren notices this and immediately gets alert and looks for fern, but is still too late. aside from showing off clone (and by extension real) frieren's instincts, it also goes to show that until then clone frieren really didnt see fern as a threat like frieren said.
I mean yeah 90 percent of the animation for the whole show is not as demanding as this kind of sequence so they definitely can manage to make as bombastic and as detailed as they can do. This anime is more of a life discovery first than a shounen. I doubt they can keep ths up if 28 episode has something like this.
He didn't. He just wanted to fight her. Like, how people pay money to play chess grandmasters even when they know for certain they'll lose. He was happy to have the chance to challenge someone who'd reached the peak of his chosen field.
@@MarcusKuann Visualization is am important part of magic in this series, by convincing himself he can win he was actually straight up making his magic stronger. Additionally, he was telling he can win so his teammate wouldn't just go murder Frieren's teammates to render the fight irrelevant.
Folks outside holding the clones off; what’s taking so long??? Frieren clone vs Frieren; throwing singularities, gamma ray bursts, magic that almost tears reality apart, and force push that would make Anakin smoke nervously in the corner.
No explanation, just pure visual to give us audience the freedom to imagine what kind of Magic does Frieren actually casts, my jaw dropped on that black Zoltrak magic and terrified at the same time, if it’s aimed at anyone else outside of Freiren I wouldn’t be surprised their shield will just vaporized. ALSO, it makes so much sense why Freiren is now collecting all kinds of weird non combat magic! Imagine having all of that arsenal and still wanting more, you need to be a war monger, and she’s a peace loving person based on her interactions
@@yobelpetra8652the narrative of the story and her teachers literally call her a “mage of a peaceful world”. She has all this strength but she doesn’t seek out conflict, and instead is content to merely travel and fulfil her desires peacefully. Sure she’s the most dangerous mage in existence in this era (besides maybe? that elf guy who taught flamme), that doesn’t change that she values serenity and peace over all
In ep10, theres a flashback where Flamme is regretful of the fact she only taught Freiren combat magic. And then only at the end, taught her the flower bed magic. I think this is why Freiren doesnt teach much combat magic to Fern, ordinary offensive magic is enough. Instead they go about and collect as many random spells as they can.
@@taryth.Even at the End it seemed like Zoltroak was the spell that eliminated the copy of frieren, so it still seems like a strong spell. And we even got to know why there are material attack spells in the modern era, because it is mana efficient to manipulate existing matter, than materializing matter out of your mana.
To be fair, Fern is an absolute weapon in her own right, but Frieren is a walking reservoir of power and a thousand year old-worth of magical knowledge and experience against who knows what. Our favorite purple-haired disciple is not yet at the level where she can really land that crucial final blow. But she will be.
The fact that Fern was able to damage and get that close to Frieren's clone is already super impressive. Especially considering her age and the amount of time she has to her disposal to learn even more from Frieren herself. She will get so damn far for sure. I fucking love this show
@@MrBii03 Personally I think it was Spiegel's last recurse of preservation. Fern herself said that, "that's so unlike you". The clone stopped acting like Frieren. The monster knew that if Frieren's clone was killed they would die too. That's my headcannon theory Yet it's amazing that Fern not only made the monster go all out, but she also survived an attack considered "the height of magic"
I don't think there is ever a dispute on that front. Fern is barely over a decade old in practice. That's toddler time in magecraft. Most mages take that long to get a basic to intermediate understanding on matter states, not to mention any sort of control. Within that time, Fern has been pushed to master all that and put it in daily application. That's neck breaking pace. For her to hold out that long against a sorceress who can casually cast black holes (which, judging by the size and stability, would require the energy equal to that of many CERNs) at that young an age is a stellar achievement. Any other test takers would have been splattered half a minute in.
In fairness, it's only "Basic" because it was so overwhelmingly powerful AND efficient, that humanity made it central to their magical theory. Kind of like how, a regular old bow is a "simple" weapon by our reckoning, but once upon a time it was absolute peak weapon technology.
Remember when Denken offers to have all the others come in and help Frieren, and she said "Sure, you could help, but most of you will die." That was entirely accurate.
Freiren exhausted Denken's mana by just using a basic attack spell and he was amongst the strongest mages there. It is fair to say that they would indeed be killed if they joined in. Most of them don't have the same level of mana supression that Fern had so they would be easy targets.
i remember seeing a content saying she was dumb to say no cause they could target her "weakness" and i was like did you even pay attention to how widespread the spells used was. literally would of took half of them out just in the 1st spell because it covered majority of the arena.
It helps the clone is straight to business right off the bat. The moment she realizes she is against more than what 5 people she probably nuked the room.
@@fishstickz8769 yeah Fern is the only one able to exploit it because she is trained by Freiren to be the fastest and the best at hiding mana. none of the others are quick enough and wouldnt be able to hide like she can.
It's ironic that because of the development of defense magic , the variety of magic spells known to the current era mages are decreasing. The mages who use multiple combat spells in this series are Methode, Denken, Fern, Frieren, and Wirbel.
When Fern was pinned by just pure force, it makes me think that this is what Serie meant that even Heaven and Earth can be turned by magic. Remember when Himmel's party first met Frieren, she mentioned that she had forgotten how to "fight" for a long time... That made me think that her clone is what Frieren was like before she met Himmel, ice cold deadly. Madhouse has definitely rekindled the legacy of brilliant sound design: - The purple lightning beam - The void sound - The rocks crumbling - black Zoltraak - Fern's spam move sounding like a freaking artillery
id like to think that her clone started to "remember how to fight" due to what situation the clone was in. i mean losing both arms and your wand is a near death experience.
It's an insane detail that makes it so much scarier. Frieren is usually completely composed but when forced to use something the real Frieren said she hadn't for 80 years the clone was fucking GLARING at Fern.
@@nelsonarturocastro7983 Yes, I was wondering about that too🤔 But the first time she uses the Mana Strike on Frieren, Frieren analyses it, so maybe it‘s a different spell?
The sheer, raw intimidation that glare gave off is insane. And just imagine, that clone lost both of its arms, and if it weren’t for Frieren stepping in, would have probably ended Fern there, which FULLY backs up the glare as something that is truly threatening.
@@nonnayobiz2959 that shit was straight-up spiteful, imagine being the demons during her demon-hunting arc and your hunter is on some terminator "even if i die i'm taking you down with me" type thing terrifying
I love how they finally show more of what Frieren can do. I’m glad this fight gave us a glimpse of her arsenal. She probably has damn near an infinite amount of spells that she just doesn’t use.
THIS. THIS IS THE MAGE BATTLE MY HEART IS CRAVING. The spells are so fucken impactful and clear. You instantly know what they do just by looking at it.
This fight really felt like a battle between thousand year old mages. We see spells and abilities not seen in decades and the results are apocalyptically stunning that it has me thinking Frieren could probably hold her own against Anos Voldigoad.
Did anyone notice how Frieren, in the last attack of the clone, moves her staff down to trick her clone away from Fern's attention into following it as she were to cast a spell... giving a little more time to Fern so she could cast her Zoltraak? The little details...
The height of magic: “You’ll-go-there-now”. “…how do I know it’s been cast, what should I do to defend against it?” “No-no I think you miss understand, your old state of being was here, your new state of being is there now”
I'm unsure if anyone noticed the change. The first part of the fight was duplicating what each other is doing. Fighting fire with fire. But the second part is not just reacting. It's feints and stabs, swirls and swings. Clone is always looking at what magic Frieren will use, and targets Fern when she doesn't. All the while, it's wxactly what Frieren wants. That momentary lack of focus on the axe that is about to cleave the clone in half.
While it's a shame that the most beautiful part of this part is when the singularities collided, with the music crescendo atop it, and reality shattering around them, it's proof of the love and dedication this studio has for their work. Bravo! Simply bravo! I say it's a shame because it's not something that really sticks to you simply because of how much cooler the rest of the fight is, with the ending of the fight being the most jaw-dropping of it all. All that to say that in this work of art, this masterpiece, the most beautiful scene is the one that is least worthy of immortalization.
@@jahangirshaikh5710 yeah i mean. imagine trying to shatter a bottle on the floor in the middle of a literal lightning storm. you would've been vaporized instantly
I love the magic spells in this series. Most shows spells are streaks of light resulting in with fireballs, usually white for good and red for bad, etc. Good guys have good guy magic, and bad guys, bad guy magic. In reality a spell is a spell, and whoever learns it can use it, there is no good or bad magic, only good or bad users. Here, each spell feels like it has a story, like some great mage a millennia ago spending their entire lives and probably inflicting catastrophe creating it. They are not pretty either, some look like the manifestation of a horrific illness or curse, and upon witnessing them strike disgust as much as it does awe.
@@thatrabidpotato8800 but they do, that red one looks like lava and vomit. They are horrific because they inspire horror. That’s what makes their design so fantastic. If you don’t like that, fine. Just keep it to yourself.
My theory is that that last spell is one that uses perfect mana suppression, to the point that since nobody can _visualize_ it as magic, that also means nobody can visualize a _defense._ So there is none. The perfect pinnacle of what Flamme taught Frieren, tricking people by suppressing your mana.
Top theory here and we know Fern is better at suppressing her mana. This means she will master this new form of magic, making her attacks un-counterable or invisible.
When you think all she's is ordinary offensive and defensive magic, and then remember that this OCD loot goblin has been collecting spells for hundreds of years...
@@HangerHangar a goof ball like frieren is not supposed to unleash hell from fern's eyes. she probably expected high lvl mastery from frieren yet frierens charecter doesnt feel that strong to her. source? right after they reach treasure room...
Honestly, seeing even this much of just how powerful Frieren is, makes me remember her claim that if ANY of the four heroes died against the demon king, they would have lost…that’s insane
So in manga we see how powerful the other members of party. Aisen can fight vs most powerful warrior of demons. Himmel almost kill another great demon. And Haiter is best support ever
Dude, the demon under demon lord are strong af. So ofc the demon lord is like the steongest being. My bet is they fought demon lord with an unconventional methods, something like guirellia or hit and run strat. No way they fought the demon lord in an honest way.
a lot of poeple complaining that frieren is kinda boring with not much action. Thats on purpose, so they can throw on every fight as much money as they can, and thats the right choice!
The show that starts slow and sad then gives you the best fights. I was already down by the first episode. Then we get to the fight with Fern and Stark vs the demon emissaries. That’s when I knew this show was the whole package. It delivers on every front.
@@KrazyTrumpeter05 the action acts more like a seasoning, it enhances the flavor but doesn’t replace what already makes the show good on its own-which is the character development and humor.
What's crazy about Frieren is that if you actually slow down and look at these shots, many of them don't have that many colours, alot of parts are undetailed and the framerate seems rather low. At least compared to "flashier" shows. But when you press play it looks like one of the best shows in the universe. Madhouse show absolute mastery in "the illusion of motion" that anime/cartoons is all about. Smear frames, moving the camera, playing with the field of view, alternating between cuts with low and high amounts of different colours, all of these draw the viewer in and entices you to move your attention around and creates an incredible effect. Not to mention the amazing soundtrack that keeps the velocity of the scene high even the visuals slow down a bit to show the magic "winding up" so that it can release that momentum later. Been watching anime for a long time and Frieren deserves every bit of praise it gets. The attention to detail, the vision of the direction and the creativity of the entire team is just immaculate.
Something that people dont talk nearly enough in this fight scene is how they animated the hair. It is extremely fluid and realistic even for slice of life movie standards are extremely impressive and to do it in an action scene???? I have never seen an anime with this much attention to detail ever.
Nah ain't no way boi, Frieren started the fight with a planetary devastation and ended with an almighty push. Don't tell me Pain was one of her mentors lol.
What makes this fight amazing is that there's no thinking or explaining every move. We simply witness from 3rd person's perspective how high-level magicians' battle would be, pure chaos and destruction.
I JUST REALIZED... She said to use Zoltraak because it's the quickest spell and elves have yet to learn to instinctively defend against it. They have to think about it but it creates just a slight moment. That last shot Fern fired previously while clone Frieren was charging a spell was blocked easily. And throughout the fight Frieren sees multiple openings that Fern can't because shes not as experienced. In that last moment when she made an opening, clone Frieren was about to attack but Frieren shifts he staff just barely an inch.. Clone Frieren looks at the staff and immediately at Fern as if she processed in one moment: "Whys she moving her staff? -> A distraction? -> Distraction?? -Fern! " It only took the moment that Frieren mentioned for her to not be quick enough to block it lol.. I was curious why she moved her staff the split second. Or am I looking too deep into it? lol
just to add, the whole colorful spectacle with galaxy shenanigans animation, wasn't just to flex the animation if you play games, rpg especially there are spells that have long cast times but extremely powerful, this is where the clone noticed it and counters with Zoltraak, the black goo thing is Zoltraak (Black to kill humans, white to kill demons) if you go back to ep3 Zoltraak was originally black.
Fern knew of the frieren's weakness but she can't quite grasp/notice it yet.. or perfectly time it. The subtle shift in the staff is the signal. It was the only time that Fern was able to inflict damage to the clone.
I'm more amazed by the fact that the clip was uploaded uncut. Most recs I get in my feed seems to be from 9yr olds who just got hands on a video editor. And they _have_ to, by the whispering of some demon, edit the hell out of it into 5 second chunks.
Copyright. Uploading full anime clips to RUclips mostly results in videos being taken down. Though yeah, it's impressive this one looks almost uncut and still exists 😊
02:24 Gravity mirror? Treating nearby gravitational force lines as beams of light that can be reflected and focused by magical gravity optics into arbitrary directions. Once redirected, no additional mana would be required similar to how once a large rock is hurled, inertia will carry it the rest of the way. The only defense would be to also be capable of creating gravity mirrors to deflect the effect.
"It's still standing but it's taken a fatal wound.. I need to finish it before........... what happened???" I imagine Demon king said something similar before he died..
@@holycrapthatsalotofketchup253Jobless Reincarnation is the worst anime I watched in recent years. The story starts out with the guy being a pedo creep that's always horny to him having erection problems. I'm sorry but if you really think that show has anything to do remotely close to this might make my blood boil. Makes me think into what kind of person you are if you could symphatize with the main character, you know the pedo creep. I know it was popular with a bunch of people and it's concerning... your average hooman is mentally ill and degraded to oblivion.
Funny thing is, Frieren is sabotaging Fern's attacks though.... She signals the clone Frieren Fern's attacks, be it a smile in her face (part 1), looking in the direction of Fern, moving the staff out of Fern's attack and clone Frieren reacts to this kind of details... That kinda shows that Frieren is pretty perceptive to that kind of details...
Manga spoilers: Going back to this fight is crazy when you consider what she said about how the last time she was backed into a corner like this was 80 years ago, when she fought and defeated the Demon King with Himmel, Eisen, and Heiter. Disregarding Frieren as the anime already displays how awesome she is: >Heiter saying that Frieren's suppressed mana is 1/3rd of his own is still an extremely impressive feat given Frieren's own reduced mana is like that of an extremely experienced mage. Heiter himself, as a drunkard priest, had mana comparable to 500 years worth of training. >Eisen we already know is absurdly strong and durable, but we've seen that he's even evenly clashed with Rivale, the God of War of demonkind (who claimed himself to be their most powerful warrior). Eisen even left him with a large wound before they had to end their battle early. >Himmel, disregarding him defeating the Demon King, was able to evenly fight a Great Demon who had mana and spells that rivaled even Frieren. He did this while under the hypnosis of a Sage of Destruction. Essentially, while dreaming about marrying Frieren, he freely moved his body and fought several extremely powerful demons. YET, we know from the members of the hero's party themselves that the Demon King gave them an extremely difficult time when he fought them all at once. Just how fucking strong was that dude????
Its only a few seconds long but if these two parts ever get combined into a single video, dont forget the replica casting red fire at frieren in ep 26. These cuts are awesome. thank you
My favorite part is Fern mag dumping Zoltraac into the clone after getting visual confirmation of effect on target. Completely counter the "wait for the enemy to hit you back from the dust cloud" anime trope. Frieren taught her well.
I've been obsessed with watching these scenes because, like everyone else has already stated, its such an incredibly well orchestrated fight. But there's something I've now realized about the pitch black Zoltraak seen at 1:39. 1:39 is the perfected version of Qual's Human-Killing Zoltraak. We know its Zoltraak from the spell circle design thats unique to Zoltraak. Going back and rewatching Qual's fight against Frieren and Fern, this moment perfectly mirrors it. Down to the backshot of blackness pouring around the magic shield in front of Frieren. This time though, the spell breaks through it and hits its target. Clone Frieren saw the opening, and capitalized on it by using the most lethal spell in her repertoire: a perfected black Zoltraak. Humanity took Zoltraak and made it the basis of their offensive magic spells. Frieren took Zoltraak and made of it a perfect Demon-Killing Magic. But secretly, she made this spell... because while ignorant of many of the aspects of Humanity, she continues to love Humanity. She understands though that, humans being humans... she would have to prepare a countermeasure. After all, Serie said it herself: most likely only the Demon King, or a human mage, would be able to kill her. So Frieren must have taken it to heart, and this is the proof of it. Perfected Human-Killing magic. In my head canon now Frieren will eventually pass this down to Fern, along with the secrets of the Force Push power.
I love that too, I imagine mages do some special training for total calmness during battle. Kid Fern couldn't fire a single spell at that monster because her fear blocked her. A mage needs focus to be effective. Only thing I'm wondering is how the hell they can tolerate pain so easily lol maybe there's some basic painkiller magic they all learn?
Eisen (and probably Himmel too since they're both melee fighters) can run on water. Heiter to become an archbishop must have be able to use incrdibly powerful holy magics too. The mofo lived to like 100+ even with those drinking black outs in his youth (and presumably even into his 40s-50s). They're all monsters in their own ways
@@Senel12s Tbh he had to have been stronger than those that will show up next season, it's just that over the journey all of the Hero party members became so insanely strong that a 4v1 turned into an even fight instead of one they would lose outright. Demon King could probably use all matter of curses, spells, and was *probably* a good melee fighter as well or could summon strong melee fighters. It's just the hero party had counters to all of these, Eisen could tank anything/draw attention, Heiter could get rid of curses, heal, buff, etc, Himmel was main melee dps and finally Frieren with general range offense, spell deciphering/counters, + large burst damage. Not too hard to imagine scenarios where even someone like Serie could lose against those four together, even more so for the Demon King. Though to be fair we have seen nothing about what he could actually do.
This episode clearly shows why Frieren just use ordinary offensive magic against Denken. He's not a challenge for her at all. Just that teleport spell would've been already overwhelming to most mage.
I like how you missed the point. Frieren doesn't use flashy magic because it is pointless in doing so, not because nobody is worthy or a challenge when Frieren historically used Elemental magic before humanity was able to copy Zoltrak and add it to human magic. Hell their end game was basically to get the Stille. Denken wants Laufen to run away fast, Frieren wants to track down Laufen fast. Frieren also doesn't know teleport spells either, its plainly obvious in the Manga as well, I even concluded it might be Jilwer since Frieren doesn't have teleportation magic.
That wasn't a teleportation spell, it was the Jilwer acceleration spell that Laufen used to steal Stille from Frieren's team in the first test. This spell causes the user to accelerate so quickly that it gives the illusion of teleportation. Frieren used Jilwer in conjunction with flight magic. Laufen is still an amateur when it comes to leaving afterimages, while Frieren is not.
You really need to take into account that Frieren's foundation of magic is combat magic. That's where Flamme focused on when she took Frieren under her wings. For sure she have an arsenal of apocalyptic spells (because Flamme seeks out war to the demons but Frieren is a mage of the era of peace) but chose not to use so.

Also casts that cosmic breaking spell. Absolute insanity.
I can't even imagine what Serie could do
Other mages: Fight with water, ice, earth, illusions, etc.
Frieren: Casually starts *breaking the fundamentals of Time and Space*
The insane part is that multiple times throughout the show they clarify that magic depends entirely on being able to visualize… which means that she can do that because she knows and can imagine how to do that. She knows how to visualize the amount of matter compressed in a blackhole, she knows how to visualize reality breaking down. Like we understand that Ubel is powerful because she can’t visualize what makes her attack ineffective, but on the opposite end of the spectrum we see Frieren understanding perfectly how reality works and can visualize how it breaks.
When the Laws of Physics become the Mild Suggestions of Physics. 🤣 sm
and serei still said she's not a class 1 mage.

@@Pika-no1qv true. But to be able to withstand two great mages throwing around catastrophic natural disaster types of magic? That's impressive.
Really gives you a sense of how strong she is and the demon lord too, since she apparently used that “mana push” against him too
im pretty sure the black version of zoltraak is the human killing version
dont you heard it the force push have no mana its not magic. She have a psychic ablility.
It's really cool to see indeed the diversity and experience being shown in this fight. We have seen her use and learn the silliest of spells, but I always did wonder about the ones that she used against f.ex. the Demon Lord. Guess this was a good glimpse of what she can do since I feel like she has even more in store.
or elf version @@pogstaco
Frieren didn't even use any of the spells here against Aura... Just shows how much of a non-threat she was to her. Damn
Well himmel told her not to use flashy spells to not destroy the bodies, so I have to assume last time they thought she blasted the corpses with a black hole lmao
But also it's not necessarily true that aura isn't a threat, these spell probably consume a lot more mana than what she typically uses and aura wasn't fighting herself feeling confident in her raw mana.
@@Laezar1 well she already knows she is going to win. So why bother with all the fighting just let the enemy make the mistake.
@@beastgaming7879 you missed the point but ok =p
@@beastgaming7879 average demon slayer pfp comment 😂😂😂
I too noticed that there was a story there but couldn't break it down as cleanly as you, nice job (with jap anime accent)

It’s like an ak-47 against a M1299 howitzer
I don't think there is ever a dispute on that front.
Fern is barely over a decade old in practice. That's toddler time in magecraft. Most mages take that long to get a basic to intermediate understanding on matter states, not to mention any sort of control. Within that time, Fern has been pushed to master all that and put it in daily application. That's neck breaking pace.
For her to hold out that long against a sorceress who can casually cast black holes (which, judging by the size and stability, would require the energy equal to that of many CERNs) at that young an age is a stellar achievement. Any other test takers would have been splattered half a minute in.

I love how all characters can be threatened by a basic spell, it shows how mortal everyone is and how it's overcome with experience.
It’s basically just a better bullet. Even with better armor, if a bullet pierces your body, it’s gunna do some damage.
In fairness, it's only "Basic" because it was so overwhelmingly powerful AND efficient, that humanity made it central to their magical theory.
Kind of like how, a regular old bow is a "simple" weapon by our reckoning, but once upon a time it was absolute peak weapon technology.
Remember when Denken offers to have all the others come in and help Frieren, and she said "Sure, you could help, but most of you will die."
That was entirely accurate.
Freiren exhausted Denken's mana by just using a basic attack spell and he was amongst the strongest mages there. It is fair to say that they would indeed be killed if they joined in. Most of them don't have the same level of mana supression that Fern had so they would be easy targets.

At least compared to "flashier" shows. But when you press play it looks like one of the best shows in the universe. The attention to detail, the vision of the direction and the creativity of the entire team is just immaculate.
im amazed that the room survived everything...
they even broke the fabric of reallity for a second there...
it's because the clone had done something about the walls and the doors
Clone Frieren reinforced the door and room with her magic
Something that people dont talk nearly enough in this fight scene is how they animated the hair. It is extremely fluid and realistic even for slice of life movie standards are extremely impressive and to do it in an action scene???? I have never seen an anime with this much attention to detail ever.
Nah ain't no way boi, Frieren started the fight with a planetary devastation and ended with an almighty push. Don't tell me Pain was one of her mentors lol.
2:23 damn Frieren with her hair down is 🔥🔥🔥
What makes this fight amazing is that there's no thinking or explaining every move.
Or am I looking too deep into it? lol
No you're not thats exactly what happened
just to add, the whole colorful spectacle with galaxy shenanigans animation, wasn't just to flex the animation
if you play games, rpg especially there are spells that have long cast times but extremely powerful, this is where the clone noticed it and counters with Zoltraak, the black goo thing is Zoltraak (Black to kill humans, white to kill demons) if you go back to ep3 Zoltraak was originally black.
I wonder if it isn't stupid people but just being edited by AI
Copyright. Uploading full anime clips to RUclips mostly results in videos being taken down. Though yeah, it's impressive this one looks almost uncut and still exists 😊
Frieren clone didn't need any staff or hands for that matter to completely destroy Fern. Shows how freaking strong she is.
That might be it! The spellcircle could be interpreted that way.
That flash cut to the clones eyes, things just got serious.
2:22 That killer look of her is like a Zoltrack to my heart. Frieren is ❤
I like how Frieren compliments Fren at the end. Pretty much saying she hasn't had to fight that hard against anyone in 80 years.
"It's still standing but it's taken a fatal wound.. I need to finish it before........... what happened???"
I imagine Demon king said something similar before he died..
Harry Potter have no sht on Freiren
Literally best Show of this decade for sure
i recommend Jobless Reincarnation Season 1, both are evenly matched for me
@@holycrapthatsalotofketchup253Jobless Reincarnation is the worst anime I watched in recent years.
@@holycrapthatsalotofketchup253 it's shit
rimuru the slime is good too
@@holycrapthatsalotofketchup253 Not with the main character being himself.
It was at this moment that you start to understand, Frieren using basic attack magic wasn't for her benefit. It was her mercy.
Manga spoilers:
Going back to this fight is crazy when you consider what she said about how the last time she was backed into a corner like this was 80 years ago, when she fought and defeated the Demon King with Himmel, Eisen, and Heiter. Disregarding Frieren as the anime already displays how awesome she is:
>Heiter saying that Frieren's suppressed mana is 1/3rd of his own is still an extremely impressive feat given Frieren's own reduced mana is like that of an extremely experienced mage.
Just how fucking strong was that dude????
anime of the year. I enjoyed every second of this anime and it really left an empty hole after it ends.
Its only a few seconds long but if these two parts ever get combined into a single video, dont forget the replica casting red fire at frieren in ep 26. These cuts are awesome. thank you
Now I understand why Friren though that teaching Fern offensive magic is enough.
Man I’m pretty sure casting just one of these spells will completely drain Fern’s mana xD.
She fights like a machine gun. Absolute unit.
@@ravenblood1954 Also because, as we can see so far, these spells are unnecessary most of the time. Frieren used them only because she fought herself.
My favorite part is Fern mag dumping Zoltraac into the clone after getting visual confirmation of effect on target. Completely counter the "wait for the enemy to hit you back from the dust cloud" anime trope.
Frieren taught her well.
Frieren can:
Summon cool golem
Summon black hole
Break dimension
Cast cool thunder
Cast cool fire
And most importantly… Frieren side eye 🤯
Really makes you wonder what would have happened if serie entered the dungeon and got a clone...
Everyone dies.
2:43 slow reverb, dust dissipating outwards plus a superhero shot chef kiss
This is the definition when Fern said her spells are all she needs to beat mages of this era bc frieren can do this shit
The people who waited outside missed out on watching 2 Dark Souls bosses battling each other
2:22 SHe's Just standing There... Menacingly!
When you realize all they needed to defeat clone Frieren was with a mimic...
I love how they became emotionless when fighting.
If all those spells required intense imagination and brain power.. I would have become poker face too…
@@sugercane333 nah your face gonna turn like stark during angry fern phase
I love that too, I imagine mages do some special training for total calmness during battle. Kid Fern couldn't fire a single spell at that monster because her fear blocked her. A mage needs focus to be effective.
Only thing I'm wondering is how the hell they can tolerate pain so easily lol maybe there's some basic painkiller magic they all learn?
Frieren death glare at Fern near the end was spooky but I want more.
That look on the clones eyes tho right before its last attack ..............gives me chills.
your cut is the best. only thing missing is a supercut of both episodes
I have a hunch, the same spell she used against fern is the spell she used when the demon destroyed her village and flamme found her.
That bombastic side eye
Think how crazy strong Himmel, Heiter, and Eisen must have been to have survived the battle with Frieren and the Demon King.
They're all overpowered not gonna spoil
Eisen (and probably Himmel too since they're both melee fighters) can run on water. Heiter to become an archbishop must have be able to use incrdibly powerful holy magics too. The mofo lived to like 100+ even with those drinking black outs in his youth (and presumably even into his 40s-50s). They're all monsters in their own ways
Himmel prolly a maxed out paladin. X'D 💙💙💙
if Demon king is stronger than the demons that will show up next season, there's no way himmel group beat him in a direct fight.
Laufen is still an amateur when it comes to leaving afterimages, while Frieren is not.
this is the greatest thing i had the pleasure of laying my eyes upon
You really need to take into account that Frieren's foundation of magic is combat magic. That's where Flamme focused on when she took Frieren under her wings. For sure she have an arsenal of apocalyptic spells (because Flamme seeks out war to the demons but Frieren is a mage of the era of peace) but chose not to use so.
It's you again Bruh Clan with actual human editing, much appreciated
Ferns specialty being magical machine gun is always great. She’s shooting basic killing magic. That’s just magic bullets 😂
1st clip that didn't destroyed this fight scene on youtube with savages cuts, thank you, take this upvote.
2:21 "oh, now you're dead..."
See this is what Galadriel was actually doing instead of that Rings of Power garbage.
i love the background music from this anime
